    I found with the tent walls don't come in when it staked into the ground and in torqued pattern on all 4 corners(1,3,2,4). Also the pocket by the door is a light pocket you can put a headlight into for defused light.

    I brought this tent last week, I really liked it. My tent's sides were nice and straight, nothing was hanging down, however, after one quiet night the fabric of the zipper was failing badly, it was fraying with huge holes in the middle so I had to return it.

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for the feedback! Crazy the zipper fabric failed so quickly! I think the zippers is one of the areas they lowered quality to keep the price down, but still crazy it failed that soon

    Great review. But ironically the most interesting thing (besides your review of the tent) in this video is your lighting and sound setup. What is that light setup you've got there and that acoustic blanket on the wall?

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +1

      Thanks mate! The lighting are Fovitec 600 bi-color LEDs and the blanket is just a synthetic comforter I got at HomeGoods. I have another video on the studio setup on my channel 🤙🤙

    I really like the video thank you so much, I didn’t hear you say much about windows so I’m assuming the windows are where the mesh goes from 36 inches to 49 inches? AnyWho I wonder how this would hold up if it was pretty chilly outside? Thanks again

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад

      Thanks man! I’m glad you liked it. The tent is a three-season, and I think it would ok in cooler environments but not downright cold ones. The height of the solid sides helps to trap heat, but at the end of the day, the amount of mesh and thinness of the wall material will let a lot of heat escape even when the rain fly is on.

    Great detailed video. I'm thinking of purchasing this from REI to do some car camping and possibly Kayak camping with my hubby and 12 yr old plus a small dog. Seeing how you were able to only fit two sleeping pads in there made me wonder how I would fit two adults and 1 child plus dog. Is it possible to sleep with your head opposite the door and foot towards the door?
    Or is there simply no room to do that?

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I would say sleeping “depth-wise” rather than “lengthwise” would probably not provide enough room for taller individuals but would probably be find for shorter folks. REI has a good return policy, so buying the tent and setting it up to test it before you commit to keeping it would probably be the best move. It’s really all about trade-offs: the more spacious of a tent you choose, the bulkier and heavier it will be. If size and weight aren’t a concern because you’ll be car camping, you could consider a larger canvas tent, like the Kodiak canvas 10x10 (I did a vid on that tent too).
      I hope that helps 🤙Good luck!

    I bought one in summer of 2019, $150 on sale. Seems like the same specs, but it's smoke grey, not blue. Made in Vietnam. And I guess I only kept 4 of the stakes, I got fancier ones to replace them! The walls also don't seem come in nearly as drastically on mine. I've never used it for anything but one-night "car camping", actually not very much at all, so I can't really say much more about it. I'm also getting lazy in my old age and am looking to get an "insta-tent"! One "problem" is I have nice leather bucket seats in my car, and I'm often tempted just to sleep in my car (decent insulation and good speakers, too😊) I suppose that's camping blasphemy lol and I should just get a better air mattress or something... 😅

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад

      Lol if you can sleep in the actual car seat, then you officially car camped better than anyone else haha

  • @maggiewagmore8778

    I backpack and camp a lot with my dog. But sometimes we just car camp at a campground and do day hikes in the area. This might be a good, larger and inexpensive option for that purpose. Definitely not a tent I'd want to be pushing limits with. One thing that bothers me is that you are surrounded by walls, with no ground-level viewing area to the outside, unless you sit up, or open the door. Here in the buggy south, you don't want to leave your door open. I don't think the dog would like not being able to see out at ground level, either. Overhead mesh is nice. I think making this door all mesh would make it less claustrophobic.
    Also, very easy to add guy lines to the rainfly and tent walls, without making any alterations in the material.

    Fair evaluation and bonus plus is you laying down in it to give us a real look as what to expect. I disagree about your negative remark about fiberglass poles. I have both pole materials (fiberglass and alum) in my tent collection (hoarder?) ha. When an aluminum pole breaks, it snaps and is unusable vs a fiberglass that if broken, is still able to carry some tent fabric weight, especially with a few wraps of duct tape. Anyway, I enjoyed the video.

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад

      Cheers mate. I still don’t trust fiberglass lol, but certainly appreciate your feedback since you have more experience with both pole types than I do. Hopefully more people will weigh in on which pole they like better and why so we can get more data points. 🤙🤙

    How would this tent do in some wind? I like beach camping but last time we went my giant 6 person tent could BARELY handle the gusts. Needed to put rocks and bags in the corners, adjust it so the corner cut the wind and we couldn't use the rainfall for that extra bit of insulation/protection.
    Looking at a kit that comes with this tent now to replace it

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад

      I’d say this tent would be somewhere in the middle-not bad, but not great. The tent has a pretty tall profile, so it will catch a lot of wind. The dome shape will help deflect some of the wind, but it’s still going to catch it. Also, the poles are fiberglass as opposed to aluminum. This takes away a lot of strength if the tent is free-standing, given its dimensions and the span of the poles. On the other hand, if you stake the tent down and attach and stake down the rain fly too, the stability really increases.
      The trick is guying the rain fly tightly and securely. Also, if you’re on the beach in sand, you’ll want to use fat stakes that have more surface area. I use these in sand, and they work well:
      www.rei.com/product/798883/coghlans-abs-tent-peg-6
      You’ll probably also want some sandbags to put over the stakes once you’ve driven them into the ground. At the end of the day, sand just sucks for anchoring tents, but you can do it with the right gear.
      I’d say buy the tent and the stakes I linked above from REI and see if it works for your needs. I think REI has a year-long return policy, so if the tent doesn’t work, they will take it back and sell it in their “garage sale” section. Hope that helps!

      I have an older version from a few years back (also smoke grey, not blue), I'm not sure what changes they might have made... but I found wind not to be a problem, except... in packing it up. Recently I camped out next to a lake, and it was quite windy in the morning, so windy I couldn't hope to fold it up in an orderly manner, and just gathered it up as best I could stuffed it in the trunk of my car. Certainly I tied it down and staked it tightly, but... I noticed no problem until getting out and trying to fold it away. I think it a little silly for Adrian to think a 3-season tent should hold up to snow. Duh, that's why it's called 3-season! This is also significantly smaller than a "6-person" tent. No comparison, really.

    I'm thinking about buying this for a 10-day camping trip for me and two other people, do you think this would fit all 3 of us? It looked a little tight with the two sleeping pads so just want to make sure

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +1

      Depends on everyone’s size, but regardless it would be a tight fit. I’m 6’1” and 205 lbs. Two people my size can fit decently, but three my size would be like sardines in a tin.

    I've been in a Wenzel Jack Pine 4 for 15 months and getting ready to buy a new one. Have you compared one of those?

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +1

      Nope, I've never used that tent, so I don't have an opinion on it. In general, tents that fall around the same price point will have similar features, weight, and durability. When I consider buying a tent, I first determine the conditions in which I’ll use it (frequency/duration/weather, etc.). I then determine the dims/specs I want for those conditions, and that informs my purchase decision. It’s always a trade-off somewhere: if you want to save weight, you generally spend more; if you want a larger tent, you typically carry more weight; if you want better air circulation, you have less dust protection…the list goes on and on.

      @@adrianofthewest Thank you so much for the reply. Full time motorcycle traveler so weight & packed size is a factor. The Wenzel Jack Pine 4 has meet most of my concerns. Wish the fly came to the ground for bad weather. I velcro on an extension. Would like the floor to come 6 inches up the side and metal poles. I've had several fiber one break but they do replace them immediately. Great customer service! But I do realize that I live in this more than it was probably intended. Plus I like the color, as the last item on my list.

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  2 года назад +1

      Hell yeah! You live a badass life! Sounds like the tent you’ve been using fits your needs quite well. You could probably order some aluminum poles that are the same length from Kelty to upgrade your current setup. Fiberglass poles suck lol. If you’ve been living out of that tent for 15 months and it’s held up, I’d say stick with that brand! 🤙🤙

    Can it be put up by one person with one good hand? I have a disability in one hand.

    • @adrianofthewest
      @adrianofthewest  7 месяцев назад

      It’s hard to say. I guess it ultimately depends on each person. I think the most difficult part would be getting the poles in place, but if you could stabilize the pole with your disabled hand or forearm enough to bend it into place with your good hand, I think you would be able to erect the tent. Bending the poles seems like it would be the most challenging part. I ended up returning the tent, so I’m going off of a fuzzy memory here. I hope that helps! 🤙
