I have also noticed over the years how MCU fans online and offline are generally less knowledgeable about comic book lore than DC fans. The MCU’s ability to reach a wider general audience has been a huge reason for their success but I wish they embraced their comic book fans as much as DC does theirs. Call me stupid, but I have very high hopes for James Gunn’s DC cinematic universe.
@kolly0938 Honestly, I was very disappointed with Shang Chi. I was a big fan of Master of Kung Fu comics when I was a kid. I collected every issue ever published. I think the movie was too watered down, or maybe too campy compared to the comics. Although it was nice to see Chinese actors filling the roles of Chinese characters. As someone who is half Chinese, I always resented Hollywood white washing Asian characters. And don't get me started about how they used to refer to us as oriental.
James Gunn said his universe will be more like star wars than the mcu. It's going to have a more sci-fi feel. Imo, that's what I want in a comic book movie. More of a comic book brought to life type of feel.
Another one: All of the creators are given creative freedom to do what you want, and they aren’t released just to move the universe forward. My problem with the MCU is that you can’t just watch one trilogy to understand it, you have to watch the other movies.
I think they're gonna tackle darker themes than Marvel. In James' new slate, it was confirmed that the Swamp Thing movie will be a "gothic horror" movie, which could be possibly R-Rated. Creature Commandos is an adult animated series so I guess it could count. And The Authority might be R-Rated too.
@j.e.s.m.4686 that's indeed interesting, but I would like for these films to tackle adult problems, life problems stuff that people could relate right? Of course adding fantasy would be a great deal but really I just want a good story
I just rewatched his suicide squad and I think it’s of perfect example of humour in a comic book movie. The humour in the movie worked because it makes sense for all the characters to make jokes, they’re broken and over the top characters that don’t really get taken seriously. Even if every joke doesn’t make you laugh, it still feels natural. I can’t say the same for marvel movies because every character makes jokes. James gives me hope that his characters will have the right tone. I don’t expect his Batman or Superman to be quip machines
I'm wondering how closley adapted the comics advertised will be? James gunn isn't know for closley adapting stuff. With dcu starting with creature commandos without any orginal members and not in world war 2 that might still be the case.
I think James Gunn is jumping the gun a bit prematurely, considering that his DCU hasn't even gotten started yet. If he were wise, he wouldn't brag about his DCU doing things better than the MCU until he brings out his first couple of films.
I can only assume you didn’t watch the video before writing this comment. James Gunn has never said anything of this sort. It’s the thesis of the creator of this video
Mcu movies turn serious broken characters into comedians now I think Mcu Is just competing with comedy central dc gives U a nee universe to have fun Why should I be reminded of constant problems that make me feel bad but in dc I am reminded but the hero inspires me to be a better me instead of telling jokes ever 5 min

Facts . I agree with u. The mcu fans are mcu fans not marvel fans. Us dc fans r dc fans who read comics, watch animated movies and shows etc
@Editxxxx thanks my brother 👍🏾
That's not stupid at all. Hope is always a good thing. There are high odds that James Gunn will pull it off.

Marvel doesn't care about fans who know comic lore, they're more concerned with pushing agendas.

Love that fantastical feel, mythical and inspiring

Hopefully they learn from marvels mistakes and don't become just children movies and keep the writing good

I feel like all the important things will be comic accurate
It's too early to say james franchise is better when it's not even out yet

He didn’t?
He never did this.
I've seen several of James Gunn movies and videos I've been following him for a while and I never said anything regarding that
I can only assume you didn’t watch the video before writing this comment.

Fun fact: after James Gunn’s DCU announcement, comic sales for DC tripled
It seems that DC fans are getting a head of themselves as usual. Just wait till something comes out and see if it’s good or not.
yeah i'd say wait for superman to come out at least. they might look dumb if the dcu fails to launch and the mcu reinvigerates itself.
Mcu movies turn serious broken characters into comedians now I think Mcu Is just competing with comedy central dc gives U a nee universe to have fun
