I'm sure most people don't want the "music theory" but for me it really helps to understand what's going on, and in turn helps me to understand what we're playing, why we're playing it, and to write my own stuff going forward. So for anyone like me who wants to know a little bit more of the ins and outs of what's going on with this chord progression, let me help out:
    The progression is as follows:
    I7 - bVII - vi - v - IV - bIII - ii - I7
    E7 - D - C#m - Bm - A - G - F#m - E7
Except we're only fretting a "shell voicing" of all the chords where we're playing the 5th of each chord on the 5th string and the 3rd of each chord on the 3rd string. And all the other strings just get strummed open! So it might help you to think of each chord as a barre chord with its root on the 6th string. Then you remove the barre and don't use your ring finger to play the octave on the 4th string, and you've got the voicings of these chords, all over E as the root, as demonstrated in the video.

Thanks for this. Is the E7 used in the progression instead of E major to fit the Open D string (the 7th in e) ringing through the progression?

Tony I’ve followed you for ages and this sort of summarised a lot of what you’ve done before, love it because I’ve played for years but you have shown me how to solo all over the board. What I would like to convey to new players is stick with it cos it all makes sense in the end . I covered Maria Maria Carlos Santana on acoustic attempted the solo and again the stuff you’ve covered all came into action, big thanks 🙌🇬🇧❤️ Gareth

Thanks for the lesson! This is very helpful, as showing what notes and chords aligned with the rhythm used. Can this strumming pattern be used in fingerstyle also?

Great lesson, as always, I've paused video at 3.40 and wrote the progression down for first part , will master that before moving on. did Tony ever explain why he wears a hat now, he's got a great head of hair , wish I had it 😂 ...seems to be a guitar teacher thing of wearing a hat , (Marty and Justin) I don't go on Facebook but if Tony ever organised a large get together strum and practise, myself and my partner would both be there ,

Hey Tam! Thanks man! You know you can get tab for this and join my community where we have live jams? Check it out in the description.
I wear the hat to save myself fixing my hair. It’s always a mess. That’s how it started and now it just feels like my uniform 😂 I stick it on and I’m ready to go

@@GuitarME thanks fella...do I need to have Facebook to join your community...or is there any other way like paying a subscription and going through your website,..I like this lesson I've never played E7 shape before apart from the first position, so it's great at moving up and down the neck, I'm ok with E shape barre chords, but this is new....Thanks

Great thanks. Is this sliding 2 chords down then one back up through the progression?

I am just starting to learn the pentatonic. There is a video that shows how and where to place your thumb on the back. I have tried to find that video and, welllll I'm going nuts. Which video shows this? Thank you...
