Thank you for sharing this, Vee! I love swatching out new colors, I get to Ooo and Ahhh over the different colors and properties. If I switch out a color, I just make a square the same size as the old swatch and tape it over it, but if I need to switch several out, I'm happy to do a whole new card. Hope you are well, happy and of course hydrated! 🚰
I love the idea of printing the pigment/color names. I do like to make swatch charts but I use a corner rounding punch to make it fit better in my palettes. ❤
Hullo Vee, I used to make my swatch sheets the same way! I have since switched to one of the 100% cotton paper that I use and I have plenty of extra pieces of scrap paper from the sheets that I cut when making smaller sized paintings. I buy mostly 22x30 sheets of watercolor papers. I have also switched to a laser printer if I want an opaque line. Thank you for sharing your process for creating a very nice swatch chart.
thank you pete 😊 that’s nice! it’s always better to use cotton when possible. and that laser printer!! i bet it prints higher quality too~ i cant really afford such printers so im glad i have permission to use the one i do. happy new year!
Thank you for sharing your technique. I will try it. I usually do it by hand with ruler and permanent marker and using my messy handwriting! 😂. But I like how your turns out and will see if I can get my paper to go through the printer!
I don't really ever do swatch sheets. I kinda think they're only useful for people who either paint infrequently or have a bunch of palettes. As frequent painter with only one palette, it's never made one and never thought I needed one, but I also don't care that much about color accuracy either. I just have vague idea in mind of what I want my paintings to look like before I jump in lol
grek! 😊 yeah i completely understand you. i primarily use one main palette and definitely dont need a swatch sheet for that. but i do have multiple other palettes that i forget so it’s handy 😂 happy new year!
I don't use swatch charts, but it's not because I have a better brain and can remember all my colors. Colors that I remember using are: cool yellow, warm yellow, orange, warm red, cool red, violet, warm blue, cobalt blue, cool blue, and a green. I let You, Dr Kano, Jay Nathan, and others do the swatching for me (Thank you by the way) because you all are good at it and better organized. Then I make the best choice I can over all the color options, and try to live with them if they turn out wrong. I prefer easy lifting colors, but I think the day will becoming where I'll have five cobalt blues, one granulating, one easy lift, one staining, one transparent, and one opaque.
thank you for ur kind words :) i, too, still live with some mistake choices haha~ and yessss, i completely relate with you. i seem to have many blues in my palette to serve different purposes as well 😊👍🏻
