@tupapiken3675 meaning get the novablast 3 for even cheaper 😂 novablast 4 didn't change much other than the rubber compound on the outsole and reviewers say the cushion doesn't hit the same spot as the 3s
since no one gives you shoes these reviews are the best compromise. I find them very useful and complementary with the various reviews made after one hundred miles that are already there
Great review! I have the Novablast 3 and I love them. I tried a few shoes, such as the Nike Pegasus, Rincon 3, Adidas Boston 10, and Clifton. None of them compare to how the Novablast feels to me. It would be great if you could do a list of recovery and max cushioning shoes.
This is a great video, and much needed in these times with all of the brands and selections available to runners, it can be overwhelming and confusing to sift through all of the choices. Back in the day we had maybe half a dozen brands, Adidas, Nike were the most popular. Best training shoes I had were the Adidas SL-72's, our coach gave everyone on the team a free pair. There was the Nike Waffle trainer and then later Adidas came out with the Adidas TRX, I ran my marathons in those as well as some road runs and track races. Off the shelf inserts weren't available, you could try and make your own or pay a podiatrist $$$ for custom-made inserts. Good luck in your upcoming marathon.
I ran my first half marathon on saucony endorphin speed 3 great shoes very versatile shoe can go fast but also can be comfortable enough for long runs . Excellent durability .
Nice review. I started with a pair of Ghost 15 and put a lot of miles on them (about 800 running and 200 walking). They still look and feel pretty good, so I bought another pair. However, I wanted to get a pair of shoes with a Black Friday discount and I was able to find a pair of Novablasts 3’s for about $90 (they are coming in the mail). Now, the other day I was at Dicks sporting goods and they had a pair of Brooks Glycerin’s for about $90. I could not pass up this deal. I absolutely love the feel of these shoes. I am looking forward to getting my Novablasts.
Thank you! I used the Glycerin 20s primarily for easy runs. I did do a couple of long runs in them getting up to around 5:40 pace which felt fine I thought, though they are a bit bulky to run faster in.
The original Novablast is still my favorite. Novablast 3 is good, but switching to the FF Blast+ did change the responsiveness. The NB2 and NB3 are still in my rotation, however they are more designated for long runs.
Agree 100%! NB 2 is the best shoe I've ever run in, onto my 5th pair and desperatly trying to find more. The NB 3 is growing on me but radically different, wider so a poorer lockdown and less supportive, foam is almost to soft.
I also have Novablast 2 and Clifton 8. My Clifton 8 doesn't feel as soft as I hoped. Have about 150k on it. Have about 400k on my Novablast 2. Agree with most of what you say about it, except traction. It gets slippery on wet leaves and grass in my experience. I heard the outsole of Novablast 3 is worse, so I'm eyeing the TR version. Hope my favorite colorway will still be available in my size during holiday sales. BTW, in weather forecast, there are "temperature" and "'feel like' temperature". I feel this idea applies to shoe weight too. Some shoes may be heavier on spec sheet, but actually feel lighter on foot and in motion.
I had those Novablast 2 and I felt so quick in them. Strava actually supported that as well. I had to retire them though because of knee pain I was getting. Only put 175mi on them. About half of what I typically get out of my Saucony and Brooks.
If you like Novablast I think you’ll love the Superblast, have you tried them yet? They feel amazing (for me) for just about every type of run (tempo, long and slow) and get even nicer after 80-100 miles.
@@mottesen_runs yep they’re pricey but durable, so you should get a lot of miles plus they are a jack of all trades so for me personally have been worth that extra bit of dosh. I’m considering a second pair but hard to get hold of in my size now!
nice way of scoring. any plan to try the Boston 12? prices are beginning to go down, a good time get one, but I'm still unsure because I don't like the boston 10 and 11.
Bummer, was hoping for a Mizuno shoe too! I fell in love with the Inspire 8 in HS. Just bought the Inspire 18 as I get ready to start training for 5ks, I was a sprinter through HS.
Love the breakdown, but I would maybe put 5-10 more points into the fit/upper. If a shoe is crazy comfortable on the midsole and has a great ride, but the heal counter gives me blisters (triumph 20 cough cough), or the upper doesn't hold my foot well, it makes it hard to run in or enjoy that midsole. But still, best method of reviewing shoes I've seen, PLEASE DO MORE
I could definitely see that. I have had bad experiences with uppers as well, and it could make sense to punish a shoe more if it doesn't do it's job well. It definitely CAN ruin a shoe. and a good upper deserves some praise
You could get some Superblasts for not much more than the Cloudmonsters, amazing shoes and remove the need for a big rotation as they perform well for most types of run 👌🏻
I have been running in the Novablast 2 & 3, several pairs. I think version 2 was more durable than version 3. My challenge had been finding a alternative shoe for the days I don't wear the Novablast. I currently run in Noosa Tri 14 on my alternate shoe days. Do you have any recommendations for an alternate shoe?
I think I would like to have a nice ultra cushioned shoe for other days. Something that isn’t necessarily fast, but nice for slow recovery runs. I think the New Balance 1080 or a Hoka Clifton would do that nicely. Otherwise just get 2 pairs of Novablast lol
The traction on the novablast is not good, I have the 3 and love the shoe. The foam is good, the upper is very good as well but the traction is ass, I can feel it lacking grip in wet weather on different kinds of hard grounds. In dry weather is fine and in wet weather it is fine as an easy trainer but I wouldn't wanna go fast and cut corners in these when it's raining..
How bizarre, I also have run over 6000 miles in 30 months with shoes I bought myself. Asics come out in top , new balance bottom out to easily, Adidas are ok but overpriced and not as durable than others. But novablast ones are great , I have a pair with 1200 miles on them and they are still fine ( no s**t) , but I will agree with you the novablast 2 are best all round , mine are coming up to 500 miles and look good for at least another 300 . ( I'm 5"9 and 88kg) thanks for the video 👍
Glad you liked the video! 1200 miles is crazy, and really impressive they’ve withstood so long! I probably have some fear engraved in me, even though they seem fine it’s hard to get past 600 on any shoes 😅
I am the same weight and height as you and had the same results. Asics novablasts 1 2 & 3 where best , I liked the new balance 1080 v 10 11 &12 but found they bottomed out because of my weight I guess . I've run 6000 miles in 30 months so know what I like 👍
Personally not a fan of shoe review videos, but don't mind as much if they're shorter like this. I'd be curious how you'd rank Saucony shoes (Kinvara, Ride, Endorphin Speed and Pro...)
If you're trying to save money, can't go wrong with the 3, it's a really fun shoe. But I do think the 2 has a bit more cushion and is a little faster. It also has a lot of life. I've had 4 pairs of the 2, all have over 500 miles and are still OK. Can't speak to the durability of the 3, I only have a little over 100 miles on them. If it were me, I'd go with the 2.
Hey just wondering if anyone can give me any tips. Im just starting running ( trying to get into the military but my cardio needs work😂) i ran 5km and i did it and it wasnt that difficult its just that i get really sore. I need a shoe thats good for long easy runs thats protective. Any suggestions?
Only one i've tried is the Novablast 2. Absolutely LOVED the shoe but ended up with holes in the upper where my big toes rubbed against the synthetic material at around 300 miles. Maybe I just need to go half a size up to avoid that.
Yeah could be. I haven't had many issues with uppers in general (which probably speaks to why I weighted it so low haha). Certainly nothing like that at least
First shoe reviewer that actually starts to make sense with the score thing
Haven’t ran in ASICS for a long while but I keep hearing good things about the Nova Blasts. I’ll add them to the list
If nothing else, you gotta give them a try. They are really good
Novablast 4 comes out dec 1st

Yeah, glad I could add some extra insight!
I got the Novablast 3s because you recommended them, and they've been great!
Fantastic video and on point without some irrelevant stories ;)🎉

We need more of this. Great breakdown. Could be a bit more detailed but it was helpful to hear your opinion about the shoes.

I do like your way of scoring them! My fav daily trainer I’ve used is the NB 880 V13. Did you do a video about race day shoes?
I have not yet! It’s tough to find the time to sit down and do it

any plan to try the Boston 12?

Omg i LOVE shoe reviews!!!
Have you tried the Superblast? I wonder how you feel about them.
I have not, The $200 price tag is holding me up tbh. But I think ill have to try them. I’ve heard too many good things
@@mottesen_runs yeah, got them discounted at 140. Fantastic shoes.
The Novablast 3 is on sale from Asics for $75 today.
Gotta jump on that! that's a great deal
I liked 2 more as well compared to v3. I picked up v4 at the nyc ma expo and it’s awesome compared to 4
That's good to hear!
It's my favorite too. The shoe is perfect. Asics FTW!
Glad I'm not alone in that pick, it's an awesome shoe!
I'm thinking about asics magic speed 3, but many people say novablast is great too.

I am torn between the On Cloud Monster and the Novablast. Obviously the monsters have a heftier pricetag but I do think it is worth it.
I have yet to run in a pair of On, but that will be the first one I try I think!
im eager to try the On cloud eclipse, might order later today@@mottesen_runs
