Congrats on the PR! You should ask your doc about bempedoic acid. Basically a new generation statin without effect at the muscles. Unsure if you were on PCSK9 inhibitors but would also be worth talking to them about

As a bodybuilder and hopeful competitor: You're awesome. I don't know if you could get big and look like a monster, but I know for sure I couldn't run a marathon. All dedicated athletes deserve respect

Cool video. I didn't know you trained on the Jordan River trail in South Jordan. I sometimes get down where you were at on the weekends on my long run. I am based off of Winchester (6400s). Murray City plows their bike trail in the winter and has open bathrooms. Winter running is really tough on the joints and soft tissue. I feel it more than usual too this time of year. Kind of comes with the season, in my opinion. Maybe our paths will cross some day and I'll give you a shout out. Loved seeing the local sites. I've been helped by Canyon View PT in Holiday. They've done a great job with me and my injuries over the years.
True about the winter running. Most of my injuries over the years are in January. Definitely say go if you see me!

I dont know how adequate it is since I have only been running a year and a half but I ice my shins and knees as prevention almost every night while studying, I started because I was getting shin splints know they are gone even when im increasing mileage and pace

I get shin splints now and then. when they flare up it can really hurt even if you touch the area. but I find that apart from being annoying, shin splints don't impact performance

So stoked to see a runner trying low-cost, non-hydrogel bi-carb applications. I think you may need to experiment with it for longer in order to acclimate your gut to the doses and perhaps develop more cardiovascular shuttling facilitators.
Yeah the Maurten gel stuff is completely unreasonable for me. It's just baking soda - the pills are literally 10% the price for the same dosage. So far it seemed OK as long as I spread out the pills over a couple hours, and not all at once! I'll keep trying it
Bicarb pills are genius…I’ve been mixing a tablespoon with about a cup or two of water and thugging my way through chugging it…I get insane chills just thinking of the flavor
I think the pills are what track cyclists used prior to Maurten’s and perhaps still due to cost. Maurten Bicarb is like $7 a pop
Might be late in the winter for this, but it’s so much cheaper to get a membership than a day pass every time you go…I’m not sure if your rec center offers that option, but in the winter when you know you’ll use indoor facilities a lot it’s super nice to be able to go whenever you’d like. Plus access to a weight room too!
Nah, it's way cheaper to get a day pass. I'd have to go at least 8 times a month to make it cheaper at all (7 to match), and I don't.
bike and nothing but soft surfaces! I've legit did a 400m/ quarter mile loop for 16 miles once when my shins hurt

Haha that was just Gatorade lol. The ketones are definitely the tough one to drink

Yes, I have been doing some exercises prescribed by my PT. Mostly stabilizing exercises

David Roche says maurten bicarb is helpful even for endurance events. He also takes ketones post-workout. More evidence on the bicarb being helpful than post-exercise ketones, at this point. I haven't tried bicarb yet just because I doubt my stomach would handle it well. Try and get some sleep, which is more beneficial than any of this other stuff!
First time trying Maurtin bicarb I felt great. My legs at a hilly mile 20 felt closer to a flat 13. The second time I couldn't make it to a porta potty in time and was stuck in a bush for 10 minutes. I didn't dare to try a third time

This one resonates with me… tried to run through shin splints last year at 70mi/wk and ended up with a hairline stress fracture in my tibia. Forced me to take off 3 months, and I’m just now back at 30mi/wk. Gotta hit the bike!
You didn’t have shin splints then, you just had a stress fracture in your shins
