    Hey, I hope you're reading this, your work is awesome and I want to try it at home!
    I've recently cut some glass bottles into simple vases and now want to to something more difficult like yours.
    I once tried to use a solder iron like you did, instead of the heat from a candle and cold water. But I think, the iron didn't get hot enough, so nothing happend, even after holding it on one spot for about a minute.
    Do you know on what tenperature your solder iron is working?
    And where did you get this cutter?
    I only have got a glass cutter I bought in a hardware store, for a few dollar, I think it's for craftsmen who need to cut plain glass at work, for example window glass.
    But with that cutter it was difficult for me to cut the glass, I needed much pressure on the glass, and I didn't get correct, fine lines like you 😂
    It looks very easy for you, so may I ask for an advise?
    And don't be too critical about my english, I'm from Germany and it's not my first language 😄

      Hello Julia
      Hope you are your family are doing well. Yes, I answer every msg in their respected language (with help of google translate) :)
      Anyway, I buy my tools from Amazon website. The Scoring tool you see in the video is a combination of X-Acto knife and diamond disk for dremel rotary tool. I replace the X-Acto blade with the diamond disk. I try to give you some link but I suggest you browse for best seller review and prices. I hope it helps

      If the initial crack doesn't show up after 5 min. do suggestions below
      1- Get a Q-Tip and a cool glass of water (Not freezing cold)
      2- Start from the thinnest area of the bottle (Usually 1/2" higher from bottom of the bottle)
      3- start heating for 20 sec. then use the Q-Tip and gently go over the heated area (Don't use too much water, as long as the cotton is wet it is good enough)
      4- Repeat step 3 several times and you should see the crack.
      NOTE: The crack may go out of control If you use too much cold water. Use a Q-Tip with just a drop of cool water. You want to be able to control the crack so don't give it a sudden shock. Never use Ice.
      It is all depend on bottle thickness and where you start the process (Usually the thinnest area works best). Follow the video as it shows. You also need patience .... Lots of it :)

    I made a few spiral bottles last year with wine bottles. Very hard but after watching again now. It looks like you used a champagne bottle is that correct? While wine bottles are more available are they that much harder than champagne bottles?
    Is there a benefit to applying the tape to the glass to be removed vs on the part to be kept?, I found i used less tape and it saved me from scoring the bottle in the areas i didn't want to score.

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад +1

      Thank you for watching my videos. No, i cut wine bottle in this video. The bottle was a thick bottle so it took a while to cut. Electrical tape only lets you score a perfect straight line along the edge of the tape. If you have a good steady hand then you could just make your lines with a marker and start scoring. A good score is the key to a perfect cut so never go over your score line twice cause it won't do anything. Hope i answered your questions 🙂🙏

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад +1

      The ticker the bottle, the longer you cut will be especially at the top where the bottle is thick and narrow and small in radius

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад +1

      Also, it doesn't matter which bottle you cut, its all about bottle thickness and mixed stuff they add to get the bottle colour. Thicker bottles will take much longer time to cut

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад

      @@zviper to be honest with you i only used what i am showing in the video. I would say diamond disk is better than the others just because it does not slip. Others tend to slide easily and make unwanted score line which will cause problem later while cutting the bottle. You always want a perfect job at the end anyway so make sure your tools work best 👍

    beautiful work! could you tell me what temp you use the iron on? i tried this for 2hrs last night and couldnt get the glass to crack. im wondering if its because my iron only reaches 750, and yours goes up to 950?

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад

      The crack won't happen the first time you try this technique just like you won't ride a bike the first time you try. You need to learn the timing. Eventually it will come to you
      Practice on a spare bottle. Start from middle of bottle (usually the thinnest area of bottle). Use a Q-Top with a little of cold water. Heat the glass then apply the Q-Tip over heated area. Heat than cool the area with Q-Tip. Repeat until you see the crack.
      This will definitely work but will cause the crack appear suddenly. You need to practice a lot to find out how much heat you need to apply. Only practice will teach you the timing. You can stop using the cooling process once you learn how much heat you need to apply. Alway start from a thin area of the bottle. It will be easier 👍

    • @andrewstyler4523
      @andrewstyler4523 Год назад +1

      It's weird. I even tried to leave the iron in 1 spot for too long so it would break. But still nothing. Only difference I could find was the iron that you were using had a bigger bit, and gets hotter than mine. But I'll try the water. Thanks

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад

      @@andrewstyler4523 let me know how it goes. Give yourself time. IMO, glass doesn't follow the laws of physics. It has it's own rules. You need to learn and follow its rules - apply heat too much and nothing will happen, cool it down fast and it will crack suddenly. You need to experience timing and that will take some time to learn.
      Let me know if I can help you more 🙏
      Cheers

      @@CutterMasterArt so ive tried the water, and applying heat in many different ways. water, no water. used the diamod disc to score it deeply. still nothing. when you do this. is your iron set to the highest temp? is there a specific type of glass?

    • @CutterMasterArt
      @CutterMasterArt  Год назад

      @@andrewstyler4523 yes, i put the iron to max.
      Ok let's do a test, grab a bottle you don't care if it breaks. Make your score line in the middle of bottle. Apply heat over the score line, this time keep the heating for about 40 sec.
      Now grab an ice and go over the spot. Use a corner of the ice (pointy corner) and touch the heated spot for 3 -5 sec.
      Now apply heat right away for another 40 sec. And apply ice for another 3-5 second
      40 second heat, 3-5 second cooling time
      Do you get a crack? If not then your iron doesn't have enough heat. If it does crack then nothing wrong with your tools

    This technique may look a total waste of time to a lot of people because they want the bottle finished as fast as possible. Whats the point of making a bottle every 5 min?
    Some people ask "OK, so you cut it, now what you do with it? It is not about what I do with it after i cut it but what I achieved doing it. What you are doing here is called "Meditation". It is a total state of concentration, a training for the mind and soul, thinking about nothing but only what you are doing now. It's to find peace for yourself, and we need that these days (during pandemic). It's to tell yourself, I know it will be a very journey and I will be spending lot of time doing & learning this and there will be many many failure to experience. I will break many many bottles, I will get mad, I will be very angry, I will be disappointed, but no matter what happens, I WILL NEVER GIVE UP cause I know someday I will look at something so beautiful that I created and it is priceless to me. I will never sell it cause it's all about me and my abilities and every time i look at it, it will remind me of me and I am proud of me.
    People also ask "why I am not wearing any gloves"... You won't be needing gloves when you reach that level of concentration and experience. I am a professional glass cutter and I know how to touch glass. The note I have in the beginning of my video is for those who never worked with glass. It is a note to beginners to prevent accidents and injuries so please wear gloves, eye protection and a good dust mask if you are a beginner and never worked with glass.
    Now a note for Professionals:
    Wearing gloves while cutting a bottle is like asking a blind man to wear gloves when touching objects. You just disconnected him/her from his/her surrounding world. You need to feel the bottle. I should remind you again, This is NOT a technique to cut a bottle and waist some time. Don't do this if your think "OK, I did it now what I do with it?" Do it to remind yourself of your abilities every time you look at it. When I look at my collection of bottles, each bottle has a story to remind me of, "You cut me and made me do the spiral dance for you" - "you cut me but I couldn't cut you".

      No, it does not look at all like a waste of time. I do believe that it is time well spent mastering a discipline that takes time, patience and the mindset of staying in the here and now and enjoying the journey. And if I achieved cutting one of these bottles successfully, I would not sell it either. I would do exactly as you suggest: to remind myself of my abilities every time I look at it. Namaste.🙏
