I am fair skinned and have dry sensitive skin. I used Paula’s Choice retinol for years and twice tried to move to Tretinoin without success, it was always too irritating. Then I saw a couple different videos on how to start Tretinoin, one recommended using moisturizer first and letting it dry down before applying Tretinoin the other recommended going Very slowly, one night a week for a month, two nights the second month etc. Using these two methods I was finally successful. I’ve been using Tretinoin 0.05 six nights a weeks for several years now. Hope this helps someone else struggling with getting started. I do use the Beauty of Joeson retinal eye cream around the eyes and the Naturium retinal on my chest, my chest never would adjust to Tretinoin.

Paulas choice 1% retinol wrecked my skin barrier. I wouldn't recommend for sensitive skins. We are all different aren't we and so many different types of retinoid on the market!

@joannastrickland6757 yes, PC has a 1% retinol but that's not the one I used. The one I used didn't list the percentage, I suspect the 1% would have been too strong for me too, I've heard it is for many people.

Thank you for the information. I love the Cerave. I have been using retinal and then retin A for years now. I started off slowly with retinal and till now where I actually mix my retin A .01% with the Cerave. I love it and can tolerate it now. This took years though to get to this point. I am 64 years old and everyone thinks I am in my early 40's! I dont do anything like botox etc.. Just tons of SPF, no smoking , no drinking and exercise. I also use alot of moisturizers with Ceramides, Hyluronic Acid, cholesterol etc... Good advice here. Long term is amazing. Just stick with it.

I use and love adapalene! It's prescription in the UK but I thought it's OTC in the US, at least the 0.1%. It has done wonders to control acne and improve smoothness and brightness! I use it every other night on top of a moisturiser. It can be drying but never gave me peeling or a lot of irritation if used carefully and in very small amounts. My skin is sensitive but if really support my barrier and use it mindfully I can still successfully use it

This is so great! I just started using retinol after finishing my baby-having phase of life! I have rosacea, an acne prone and get oily in my t zone but drier on my cheeks. I’ve been doing ok using neutrogena rapid wrinkle repair every other night. I started this 3 weeks ago. My skin does get a little red and inflamed using certain chemical sunscreens now so I’ve totally switched to mineral. Not sure if this is common but it’s only started after I started using rapid wrinkle repair. I haven’t had any purging or dry, flakiness so I consider it a win!

This week I've been slowly reintroducing tretinoin and wow, the retinization has been wild! So much flaky skin, even with using very hydrating moisturizers. This video reminded me that I've still got a few weeks to adjust and to be very gentle with my skin. That was very reassuring. Thank you! I just started using Trentinoin in 2023, but used Peter Thomas Roth's RETINOL FUSION PM Night Serum. I used it for about 10 years and love it. It's a time released microencapsulated retinol that is 1.5% and also contains squalane. I still use it on parts of my body and always my hands. It allowed me to switch to trentinoin with MINIMAL dryness, which I solved by sandwiching in the area that was dry and skipping a day or two during the week. Thank you for your wonderful suggestions and videos.

My skin tolerates the Cerave retinol without issues, but I apply it all over my face 2 times a week, on my forehead and eye wrinkles every second day. I’ve been using Naturium Arbutin $39.95 and Naturium Tranexamic acid $39.95 with Tretinoin 6 nights a week. I’m on my second bottle of Arbutin and TXA. Hasn’t faded anything yet. So probably another two products that are waiting my money. Prices are here in Australia. I purchased Avene 0.1 Retrinal $82.95 for my neck. My issue is my eyes became sooooo very dry, uncomfortable and stings (from dryness) - I had to avoid my eye area completely - i.e. brow bone area, eye lids, under eyes / bags and part of my crow's feet - :(. I was going for night shift as a beginner retinol, I love statia, however I have mild rosacea, was thinking about the innisfree cica retinol - super low dose but says nightly use ? Thoughts ?

Or versed press restart? I emailed them and they told me the concentration. Very low. 2 forms of retinol and encapsulated, i would need to look at my email to confirm the percentage.

I’m 39 and have tried chemical exfoliators but they never seem to be enough. My skin still will feel scaly almost within a day or 2 and it’s never softer. I’ve always gone back to physical exfoliators like Dr. Brandts or something similar. Any suggestions ? Thank you

Why don`t you even mention retinAl? Soo much more potent than retinol and doesn`t create irritation. I don`t see why anyone would even use retinol anymore in year 2024?
