As for Tamerlane's kink of watching someone else treat her husband kindly pretending to be her, that's inspired on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "William Wilson" (which is the name of Tamerlane's husband in the show, btw). The protagonist of "William Wilson" is a cold, self-centered person who one day finds out they have a doppelganger that is kind, honorable and sweet, always making the morally upstanding choices. After some time, rather than following the cue and getting better, the protagonist gets obsessed with this doppelganger and follows them into a mirrored room. Tragedy ensues.
Murder in the Rue Morgue was Poe's first story featuring C. Auguste Dupin, who the show's heroic lawyer is named after, a detective incredibly skilled at logical deduction chronicled by his hapless assistant, several decades before Sherlock Holmes. The big twist is that the murderer he's tracking turns out to be an orangutan, and one of its victims is named Camille.

Carla's character is Verna...which is an anagram for "raven". So she's the physical embodiment of Poe's raven and the personification of death. Her rave outfit with that death mask is my Halloween costume this year!
Nikki is so right 🫡 Gugino nails Sloyan’s cadence when ‘Candy’ is emulating Tammy - it’s so creepy and delicious 😂 you can see why Flanagan wants to work with these actors again and again
@@coniglianayet accurate to how the public can be manipulated. His story is almost exactly how diamonds became synonymous with romance. (Granted, I think that she'd be better off solving her intimacy issues with therapy than by paying sex workers to sleep with her husband, but hey, not my life, not my money)
My favorite part was when he described how companies will patent the lemon's DNA and then intentionally spread seeds on private farms just so they can drive those farms out of business. It's one thing to have an ad campaign and celebrity endorsements, but to deliberately destroy people's lives and livelihoods just so you can make a few more dollars is what makes these people truly despicable.
Carla Gugino is the G.O.A.T. , her channeling the ape, her cadence of Tammy, the desperation of the heart patient. All combined with the level of ominous dread , chefs kiss
So Verna (death) is basically going from the youngest to the oldest siblings. Also the majority of the characters in this show are part of Edgar Allan Poe’s tales and stories. Mike Flanagan kinda did a mash-ups with various storylines and characters to create the plot for this show.

6:26 i had an issue with Pym just walking in the building and not even coughing. The air would be so caustic he wouldn’t be able to breathe w all that poison floating about and he’d end up choking & vomiting etc. . It would have made it more believable if they had at least put him in a respirator. In reality this would be a near fog like scene w the poison in the air in the enclosed building and a hazmat situation. Anyone who entered would be in full hazmat protection. So I didn’t really make me feel like it was poison/ acid. It was a lost opportunity to show the audience just how horrible it would also be to the lungs. Because the cause of death would be asphyxiation due to the poison in the lungs and their insides would look like the outside . JMO though
@@RicardoRandom691 Oh yeah, it seemed like when she warned some of them her language was sort of vague so it seemed like they could have avoided dying.
The main cheat with Verna is that she knew there was zero chance that they would take her warning seriously. So giving them a "warning" is a lie. Also, the idea that Verna was fair in any way is a joke. By granting their father's wish, his children were doomed from birth. The idea that any of them would heed the advice of a lowly worker is ridiculous. And the final insult? The granddaughter who is good is murdered by Verna even though she is good. It's the typical Satan cheat, if he comes to you to offer you a deal then you're most likely doom.
I have a theory the episodes are going to go youngest to oldest like an opposite Hill House, but I have no idea if Camille or Leo is older so I don't know if the theory is still on track.
Prospero was the youngest. Frederick and Tamerlane are the two legitimate children and are the oldest. That leaves the "bastards": Victorine, Leo and Camille. I think I read somewhere that Victorine is the oldest of these.
My partner almost bailed on the show because the characters were so despicable and seemingly unredeemable. I pointed out that being so awful makes the brutality and goriness of their demise more satisfying and justified.
Yeah the characters were despicable human beings , however from the siblings, idk if napolean was such a bad person....Ig he was complicit in his family's business like all the others but he didn't do anything terrible other than cheating (which is awful but still relatively better than the stuff others did lol)
This episode really hit hard for me - Deep terror. And all respect to everyone involved of course, but I honestly think the show lives or dies with Carla - What a performance!
Nikki, your reaction to the cat scene was the same as mine. I had to look away. I can't watch animal violence, especially with cats. Almost stopped watching completely. But as soon as I saw the black cat in the beginningof the episode, I knew where it was going...
All of the episodes are based and themed by Poe's famouse poems and they are even refered to as phrases as he says how eah child of his died a brutal death.
with Tammy, I think it's something along the lines of her wanted to receive praise and attention and validation, but not wanting to put in any of the emotional work herself
Mike Flanagan is a genius I thought hill house was his magnum opus and it was lightening that he wouldn’t strike again. Midnight mass was great don’t get me wrong but this is heaven it’s a perfect series he focuses on characters has amazing dialogue and isn’t afraid to go there. And I love that he uses the same actors over and over again Carla is amazing on all his shows. Def Emmy worthy Side note his wife is the actress that plays Camille she’s in every one of his productions Smart horror thrillers are back and I’m here for all of it❤❤❤
Death tried to get the wife to leave because it wasn't her time to die but not to prevent her from dying too soon. But to prevent a serious alteration in life quality for the rest of her life.
The informant is the granddaughter Lenore. Rodrick adores her, and I feel like people are not that careful about what they say around her. She mentioned to her mom and dad in episode 1 that if you do a crime she feels you should pay for it
Camelle went out like she lived... like a boss and no regrets. The whole series is a social commentary in the dress of a horror series. As usual with Mike Flannigan. The attempt to open the eyes of our ignorant society in what kind of world they live in. Nothing is a lie, everything is true.
What scared me the most was when she started screaming and it resembled a monkey... Until towards the end everything came together and I got scared pretty bad. That wasnt until she took a photo
Flanagan is not screwing around with this one. Zero talent rich people are in the crosshairs. The notion that the rich are "street smart" is utter nonsense.
I don't think watching is necessarily Tamerlane's 'kink'. I think she craves a simple life without the pressure of being an Usher and just wants a normal marriage with a loving husband but she'll never have that experience, not genuinely at least, so she lives the experience vicariously through the women she hires.
How great was Carla Gugino in this show? She is not death nor the devil. She is Karma. She comes back to set things right. She even gives them chances on how to die peaceful or violent.

Also, Kate Seagal, 2nd time being in the 3rd episode as far as her character's story being told. Another successful episode, well if you are an Edgar Allen Poe fan and are actually here for the art and not the cheap jump scares.
JMO though
Good point!
Remember, Verna warned Perry too. They ALL had a chance to avoid their fates but Perry was doomed, the warning to him was never going to be heard.
Well, they were going to die anyway, as Verna tells them. It just didn't need to be gruesome.
Mark Hamill is so good in this role 😊❤🎉
It’s funny because now that Ren’s Money Game pt2 is blowing up, this whole speech just makes that video play in my head. Lemons and Sea shells.
Please for the love of god someone give Nikki an animal trigger warning for episode 4.
this series was so absolutely delicious. absolutely.
They were WARNED, but they didn't LISTEN.
You can see that Roderic talk exactly like his boss he copies every move from his boss
This is the strangest romantic comedy I’ve ever seen lol…😂😂😂…love this series second behind HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE
Steve: “i bet the informent it’s Camille”
me: “seriusly bro? 😂😂”
This show is so good.
with Tammy, I think it's something along the lines of her wanted to receive praise and attention and validation, but not wanting to put in any of the emotional work herself
Def Emmy worthy Side note his wife is the actress that plays Camille she’s in every one of his productions
Smart horror thrillers are back and I’m here for all of it❤❤❤
Death tried to get the wife to leave because it wasn't her time to die but not to prevent her from dying too soon. But to prevent a serious alteration in life quality for the rest of her life.
You should watch.. the witch: part 1 - the subversion
Kate Siegel is amazing in this episode.
The order is from youngest to the older, ending with Rodrick and Madeline.
Madeline is the Littlefinger of this show
The informant is the granddaughter Lenore. Rodrick adores her, and I feel like people are not that careful about what they say around her. She mentioned to her mom and dad in episode 1 that if you do a crime she feels you should pay for it
I knew 28:48 would catch Nikki out 🤣
For me this was the creepiest episode of all! Caesar is lemon scary!
Camille was right not even Madeline finished any of her projects that she was paying others for
I hope you‘ll watch Hereditary someday. The movie was so good🙏
@@dlweissthat’s what makes the reaction so fun to watch 😂 the terror and dread on sweet non-horror people’s faces. We love you Nikki 😅
we've seen it
Camelle went out like she lived... like a boss and no regrets.
The whole series is a social commentary in the dress of a horror series. As usual with Mike Flannigan. The attempt to open the eyes of our ignorant society in what kind of world they live in. Nothing is a lie, everything is true.
The lemon analogy is a reference to what was done with diamonds, btw :)
So did someone intentionally unlock that ape’s cage? Dundunduuuuuun.
Reverse 🐓hold…. It’s a crazy thing.
LIke you can tell how poeple die based on the title!
Verna is? Dark LOKI confirmed!
nothing stressful about it, you just LEAVE! you shouldn't need death to tell you that you should LEAVE THE FAMILY!
because it is true nikki.
next ep coming?
why so many days in between episodes? :( i watched the serie the day it came out and i couldnt stop watching it, it's very good. 2 days took me :D
Because we are watching 2 other shows plus a movie each week and all that content needs to be edited
oh thanks for answering. sorry i didn't know. i'll be waiting for your next reaction.@@NikkiStevenReact love the way u analize the episodes. u too are great. hugs for both
16:18 why not nikki,, he is telling us the facts
Luke Skywalker would never, true. The Joker and Fire Lord Ozai though...
9:52 STILL family, thats hard to be ok with right?
