So, what were your thoughts on the movie? Did you like it? Dislike it? Somewhere in between? Leave a comment below as I do my best to read and respond to as many comments as possible! Also, for context, this video was recorded on December 21st (the day after I watched the Movie) and is Unscripted. That being said, I will have almost definitely not discussed some parts of the movie or maybe even have gotten something wrong. Feel free to leave comments about anything I missed or didn’t talk about!
According to the director The reason why Gerald is still alive ie because he was holding onto shadows quill and he was basically taking “hits” with it the chaos energy keeping him alive and slowly down his aging
36:47 an INCREDIBLY small but endearing detail here, is that Walters doesn't say "That's a child." He says "Those are CHILDREN". Plural. Walters sees shadow as an innocent child no different than Maria.
Gerald does too! When he calls for Shadow and Maria to run with him he calls them "children" too. The movie gives me the vibe that Maria being there and playing with Shadow made some of the staff like Gerald and Walters realize that Shadow was a child not just a mysterious alien.
And I also like Knuckles has lightened up in this movie, he’s able to have fun and just enjoy the simpler things in life, but he still hasn’t forgotten his roots and will easily get serious if he needs too
They definetly could have used a longer run time. The movie felt like it was rushing you a bit too much to feel unnatural. But the story was so good I didnt care.
@@kousand9917 The last movie was the longest on the series, and most criticism it got was regarding its pacing, 'the movie drags for too long', so I guess that's why they rushed it up? They listen to the fans, which is amazing don't get me wrong, fans always know what they love, and giving them what they want will get you more and more money. But there are also problems with that, sometimes 'the fandom' will ask for something to be removed without realizing they enjoy it, or maybe sometimes its just *a part* of the fandom that doesn't want it (fandoms aren't a hivemind after all, some people like one thing and others another). The Sonic Franchise is no stranger to this, Shadow got given a gun in his game because people kept saying they wanted more 'real guns that pose real threats to rise the stakes' or whatever, and when it happened they complained about it, but now they want the guns back. It just be like that sometimes. So maybe if we beg for a longer movie enough, 4 will go back to having 2's runtime? I'd personally like that.
@@kousand9917 I think it mainly comes about from how there was very little filler, which I'd say isn’t always a good thing, filler can be there for a reason namely to slow the pace a bit. But the fact they managed to get the emotional core and lore across impressively well despite the breakneck pace is wild to me. (Something I feel like even Sonic 2 struggled with personally, despite the fact I still like the film a lot)
"You jumped out of a GUN helicopter. There's nothing to talk about." Has to be one of the best lines to come out of Sonic as a whole and wonderfully delivered by Keanu.
My only real problem is I wish they fully locked in after Gerald revealed his true colors to Ivo (“you’re no Maria”) rather than have him continue doing typical Jim Carrey comedy stuff.
I agree, it would’ve worked much better if Gerald remained serious for the rest of the movie and properly painting him as the monster he had become, plus further show how truly different he was from Eggman.
@ the spanking scene was actually quite ngl, and Gerald’s death was also funny. Has my entire theater of both kids, teens and adults laughing their asses off 😂
If Kristen Ritter comes back in the future, I believe it'd be really hilarious for her to go from despising aliens to being forced to team up with an alien like Rouge the Bat. Which would be similar to Topaz from Sonic X being forced to team up with Rouge. But yeah, Sonic 3 was a HUGE treat. Best video game adaptation ever. So satisfied.
yeah I wonder if gun is still operating(it would be cool to see sonic friends and gun team up) also I can’t wait for a shadow spinoff(I just wanna see black doom in live action) I wonder if he is gonna have the same artstyle as longclaw or be more game accurate like sonic and others
Hating aliens and being forced to team up with an alien that gay flirts with you (but in a way that american audiences can handle in a kids movie) and it's hilarious. I can see a shadow spinoff like Knuckles where this is a subplot.
if you're disappointed that Mufasa surpassed Sonic 3 at the box office, remember: Sonic 3 is nominated for best video game adaptation. Mufasa was nominated for the worst remeke and prequel in years. The Sonic Saga has already exceeded $1 Billion in total. Sonic has won the hearts of fans. Paramount confirmed Sonic 4. There is a knuckles and shadow spin-off rumored. Sonic 3 is the ultimate video game adaptation in years and tbh. i love this franchise so much. Can't wait for Sonic 4 in 2027 and Hurry up 2027.
This movie really set a new bar for video game movies in the future. Like, the first 2 sonic movies were fun and proved that video game movies could be good, but the sonic movie 3 was genuinely an amazing movie
Actually, the movie makes the motorcycle make sense. Reason being is it's SHADOWS CHAOS energy that's energizing the motorcycle, making the motorcycle as fast as Shadow is. I'm surprised that no one noticed that.
17:47 I just want to say i genuinely appreciate this section of the video, because soooo many people don't have the media literacy to understand that this scene doesn't undermine knuckles strength. shadow is portrayed to always be a more tactical fighter than knuckles in most iterations, but that doesn't (if not ever) equate to him being physically stronger than him.
It is also worth noting that it seems Shadow was moving in something akin to Chaos Control in that moment. Instead of trying to stop the Impact from Knuckles direct strike - he twisted his hand in a stopped time - and then the force of impact hit dislocated joint - Knuckles basically was forced to hurt himself. And then he teleport spam knocked him around not allowing him to get a proper footing. It was never Shadow overpowering him directly - just smart use of his abilities to exploit Knuckles weaknesses and power against him.
Just a note, they weren't celebrating Sonic's first Bearthday, they were just celebrating the anniversary of when he came to earth. The first movie tells us he was on Earth for 10 years before he runs into Tom. Also Tom and Maddie mention how much their lives have changed "over the last few years" since they met Sonic. So I'd argue that Sonic's been on earth for about 12 years minimum.
if its his 1 year anniversary on earth with tom and Maddie it means its 100% 11 years still it think what tom and Maddie said was a mistake or it means just in general everything changed. we can assume this happens at then exact date of when sonic 3 releases so sonic 1 was probably at the end of 2023 sonic 2 somewhere in mid 2024 knuckles in late 2024 but before sonic 3
I've been saying this since the 2nd movie, but Movie Sonic with each new installement is getting closer and closer to its game counterpart and the 3rd movie, plus with Jeff Fowler stating that "as long as the audience grows, the characters will also grow" I was right. Also when they switched the name of Team Sonic to just "Team" that was a Sonic Boom ROL reference.
Man, I didn't even catch that Boom reference. Although I'm starting to think I may have missed a few references. I completely missed the Eggmanland one as well.
@manuelinacio4038 Movie Sonic beign a copy-paste of Game Sonic would've been boring as heck, Game Sonic has been like that for over 20 years, so why can't Paramount just change Sonic's personality? Why can't Paramount try something new?
@@karimkou7847They're just saying he's growing to share qualities similar to game sonic, we aren't saying they can't lol but sonic is still sonic so he has those few qualities
One trait that's very overlooked to me but I love so much is when emotion isn't conveyed by speech but by sounds such as breathing, panting, etc I love the scene where Shadow asks Gerald if this is Maria would've wanted and Gerald tells him it's not what she wanted but what humanity deserves and tell him to remember her death and the G.U.N raid and it soon shows a close up of Shadow all dirty and crying over Maria's corpse and then it cuts back to present shadow now fully fueled by anger of reliving painful memories then proceeds to charge the eclipse cannon with chaos energy and specifically hear the grunts that Shadow is making, I may be overthinking it but I think it conveys how he truly feeling, his grunts are full of anger but at the same time, shaky like he's about to cry out of anger which feels so strong to me. Again I may overthinking it but to me the sounds he made when running around the eclipse spoke me idk how else to describe
Legit one of my favorite scenes in the movie, you can FEEL the anger and fury Shadow is letting out in this moment. The way he runs feels so aggressive and his constant pants and his breaths really sell the emotions he’s feeling in that moment
@@GameMaster-sh7trI feel as well that it's a good parallel to Sonic's emotional running moment in the first film after he has his baseball game. Whilst Shadow is fueling himself on anger, rage and pain. Sonic is fueled by anguish and lonliness.
I disagree with the Maria death rewrites as I feel having Shadow be out right responsible for a death (in this case Rockwell’s father) would’ve been a bit too much. I mean, in the games I don’t think Shadow has been shown in story to ever kill anyone so him being responsible for killing Rockwell’s father isn’t really necessary. Also, while I agree that Rockwell was underdeveloped & utilised, I feel her dislike of the Sonic Characters (Mobians, Aliens, whatever) could just come down to prejudice towards them not being human. It can be that simple I feel, & something that simple can be extremely powerful when written well (just look at the prejudice in our own world). I also don’t think having Commander Walters be responsible for Maria’s death would’ve worked either as you’ve got to take how the character has been shown in the previous movie. In those movies, he’s a lot more comical & fun (being mostly referred to as Olive Garden Guy), so having it be revealed that he killed an innocent child…Would’ve been to much of a ‘gear shift’ in character.
Gear Shifts can work when they’re done well tho… personally it’s one of my personal FAV things when ya take a comical character and all of a sudden, the show does something to take their presence really seriously, ala King from TOH, Uncle Iroh from ATLA, or Twice from MHA…
1:27:50 If Amy does have a moment with Metal, they could do another scene like the talk between Sonic and Knuckles or Sonic and Shadow, but instead of joining Amy he rejects her like he does to Sonic in the comics
@@Se_fosse_dublado considering that the post-credits scene in Sonic 3 has some *heavy* Terminator vibes, i can totally imagine Metal Sonic referencing the whole "thumbs up while sinking into lava" scene lol
Personally I think thatd only work great WITH SONIC HIMSELF, seeing as that’s exactly what he’s done and it worked for the last 2 movies, so itd hit (the audience) most of all if it was him who reached a hand out, only for once was slapped back (they had that same interaction in the idw comics as well), and he has to accept the fact that this time he’s up against someone who again is like him (in a different way), only CANT be talked down.
I really appreciated the characterization of Shadow, he was, as many pointed out in Twitter, what he's supposed to be in the games, no edgelord Sonic, but a tragic and conflicted person. I loved how his comedic timing was well used while still being serious and how he wasn't brainwashed but decided to do bad actions himself while developing doubts about it through the movie. And while I may he ripetitive i still say it, the scene where Sonic remembers what Tom told him and then helped Shadow understand how his love for Maria will always be stronger than sadness really gives sense to the song LIVE AND LEARN. Sonic lived to learn. Shadow learned to live.
@Paolo-ec2si I really love Movie Shadow. This feels like proper portrayal of Shadow from SA2, hell I’d argue this introduction of Shadow is even better
55:45 i feel like you may have not noticed but when Walters explains shadows backstory where he lands and yada yada at the end when the accident happens and shadow is deemed dangerous as shadow panics and the tube fills up and he gets locked away the last person he sees infront of him is commander walters and his face goes from panic to anger and vengeance which is why he has such a grudge against him have seen a few miss that moment
The movies have done a wonderful and better job at making Team sonic actually feel like close friends , and having tails and knuckles feel like actual friends
The only way they can top the Super team up on the moon is having Super Sonic, Super Shadow & Super Silver team up with “His World” blasting in the background.
What I think helps this movie a lot in terms of Shadow and Sonic's relationship is that, unlike in SA2, movie Sonic actually has a backstory. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I have always found Sonic and Shadow's relationship in SA2 a little flat mostly because, outside of looks and speed, they have almost nothing in common because Sonic doesn't have a definitive backstory in the games.
Sonic has somewhat of a back story it's just extremely simple like Eggman's. Basically Sonic is vibing and this fat nerd is kidnapping all of his animal friends and Sonic doesn't approve of his friends being trapped in robots and sets out to stop him.
I honestly didn't mind the Pokémon Joke. It felt like something brothers might do. Both Sonic and Knuckles have a laugh at Tail in way that doesn't feel condescending. I felt it showed how they went from working together to annihilate the Death Egg Robot to being the best of friends and maybe even brotherhood. And I like that pays off when Sonic and Knuckles stand off for the emeralds. Sonic has become so enraged that not even his brothers will get in his way. That kind of humour keeps appearing. Sonic loving "Team Sonic" at the beginning is comedic and that's the angle I think they were going for. He care about all of them deeply, and after they fall through atmosphere, Sonic just says "Team".
I don’t want to, like, cause any kind of debate or anything, but there was something you missed about the Maria death. Walters doesn’t just say that’s just a child, but “those are children”. Walters was a very kind presence when we first see him interacting with Maria before she met Shadow. So, I don’t think him(in your rewrite) being the one to do it would be all that better. Plus, he still feels guilt. He feels guilty in the fact that he couldn’t do anything. That he couldn’t prevent her death. And I think that’s the reason why Shadow hates him so much. Because, if Walters was someone who was very kind to her, why didn’t he just stop the raid entirely. Now, that’s a childish way of thinking, but Shadow is pretty young, at least mentally. Some even speculate that her death was the first time he even discovered what death was. He is, what Flashback Walters acknowledged as, a child. A child with enough emotional grief to be molded and manipulated, morally. IDK, I just felt like saying something. I don’t really comment on too many of your videos, so I just wanted to add my two cents.
It is also kind of implied that Walters was the one to make the decision to put Shadow into the stasis. At least in the film itself Shadow is shown to be angrily making eye contact with Walters in the last seconds before he is put to sleep. I think that definitely contributes the most to Shadow's hatred of Walters. Shadow probably didn't even know that Walters was there during the explosion.
25:41 Honestly, the biolizard could be saved for another movie. We don't know of Shadow's origin story, since in this universe he's introduced as falling from a comet. Maybe the Biolizard could be introduced as a plot device in a new movie that talks and introduces more about Shadow's backstory.
Honestly even as someone who usually considers herself very left-winged, that "woman in the military" joke landed perfectly, because a) it was said by a villain - if Sonic for example or Tom had said that and it would have remained uncommented like that, it would have had a sour note with it, but Gerald being a(n 110 years old!) villain, and his joke even having Robotnik reacting to it with knit' brows (if I remember correctly, that is) contextualizes the joke as an archaic, frowned upon pov, and b) it was almost relatable - I think quite a few of us have grandparents (and/or specifically grandfather's) with a "back in the olden days, men still went to war and women stayed at home cooking" problematic kind of mindset. This paired together with Gerald (who's, again, a *villain*) saying it when Agent Rockwell has a pretty badass position (from a more or less objective point of view, because she is quite high in the ranks and not just an unnamed soldier), clearly paints the picture of a joke being a harmless, somehow even feminist, joke.
37:15 I think there's an important thing to note here. Walters doesn't say there's a child, he specifcally says "They're CHILDREN" which gives the impression to me that he too saw Shadow as a kid and didn't want him to get hurt. This being said, it is interesting to have Walters be the one to kill Maria but there's a tradgey in the fact that he's the first person that both Gerald and Shadow directly go for the kill with despite him being the person who tried to save them, the idea of being that revenge can only bring pain and suffering and how it changes people. Both characters so consumed by their vengance that their actions risk everyone else's. I like the film's way of doing it personally, it's interesting to have him so humanised AFTER his death as it makes the sense with Shadow and Tom all the more impactful.
I always thought that Pokemon joke was hilarious and didn't feel out of place for Knuckles. Even though he's not as invested in pop culture gags as Sonic is, the Knuckles show did reveal to us that he's doing his best to learn and engage in his new planet's culture while traveling with Wade. He watched Pretty Woman and knows Kevin James as a mall cop, so the fact that Knuckles, of all people, is in on the gag and poking light fun at Tails alongside Sonic makes it more humorous. Great review btw!
I believe the black hole gadget was Gerald's invention since Ivo said himself that he's been trying to get rid of Sonic for a year yet his grandfather done it in one afternoon.
Movie 3 is probably the perfect origin for Shadow, removing all the convoluted complicated aspects from SA2 & Shadow 05, he’s just a Mobian Hedgehog that crashed to Earth (presumably in a piece of the Black Comet) was experimented on by the U.S. Government but befriended a 12 year old girl who was his only friend. I can see the inevitable Shadow spin off film focusing on him & his strife with GUN, introduced Rouge & Omega, established Team Dark by the end.
@Abner-gu3ve considering that Shadow in this universe was able to power up the entire eclipse cannon by himself with his chaos energy you gotta wonder.... JUST HOW POWERFUL COUL THEY ADAPT BLACK DOOM?
1:28:13 With Amy's whole concept of having a crush on sonic, I think with how sonic's character is in the movies, maybe it would be fun to have sonic have a crush on her. Have it be his sort of learning moment, where sonic cant explain why he feels some way or something about amy. And would work well with making Amy a sort of more mature character that explains how the lore of the alien worlds works too, possibly.
I actually really liked the robotnik and gerald dance scene. It shows how narcissistic ivo is by celebrating just before getting to his goal. And I know you already have known about it by now from the top comment but gerald lived a long time because he took one of shadow's quills which are filled with chaos energy that kept him from aging. Great video by the way! Really excited for your next video.
yeah i did enjoy it aswell, although i do have to say it, huge missed oppurtunity to not play robotnik's theme E.G.G.M.A.N during that scene it would have fit greatly
@inkedthedemon Lots of people think otherwise. Plus, like I said, it shows how narcissistic ivo is from his overconfidence. Pretty meaningful towards his character.
After the disaster that was the Bordenlands, or the controversial Knuckles show or the awful Halo and Yakuza shows, it's such a breath of fresh air to have a video game adaptation that not only has a good story but also respects the source material.
The one thing that the Sonic movies have, that the other franchises media didn't, was a team that cared about and respected the source material (and as a Yakuza fan, that show hurt me personally).
I think GUN makes Metal Sonic from the research and equipment they took from Egg Man in Sonic 2. Rockwell seems like the kind of person who would greenlight a project to create a weapon to counter the aliens and that weapon goes Skynet on them in the future.
Pretty sure humanity would be afraid of what the aliens are capable of since the monumental disasters, permanent damage on the earth’s soil, moon being sliced and the deaths as a result of their actions. Especially when Sonic caused an EMP in the Pacific Northwest. The racism has been forged. Humanity would rather die than have kids like us. At least those who doesn’t understand empathy.
I like how the video is almost as long as the movie lol. Can’t wait to watch this. Sonic 3 had a decent amount cut yet still felt full man. What a franchise we have now
Overall, I loved the movie. My only real complaint is that we got to hear "Live and Learn" about four seconds while Eggman got both a full dance and "family bonding" sequence. Don't get me wrong, both were funny as heck and I actually enjoyed both, but once we got to Super Sonic and Shadow I can't help but blame the Eggman scenes for that...
Yeah, it was a little annoying to have a Super Sonic and Shadow scene broken apart by the Robotniks (of course I want to hear Live and Learn for longer). The dance scene might be to blame, but I don't think it is wholly the problem (but, yeah it is a little annoying that it gets almost 2 minutes to itself but the Live and learn sequence is cut a little short).
Apparently legal troubles were to blame. I heard the lead in Crush 40 sued Sega cuz their contract only gave them permission to use the song in SA2. But Sega’s been using it all over the place. So they’ve not been getting properly compensated.
@@kiramortwilson7411 I heard that lawsuit happened just days before the film released in theaters so I doubt it had anything to do with the film itself. Even if that were not true, the song was approved for the film several months ago, so again the lawsuit between Crush 40 and Sega shouldn't have affected the film in any way. The movie is made by Paramount, not Sega.
The question is, will anyone actually complain if this movie was 2 hours? It's kinda an issue I had with Sonic 2 -- the wedding scenes weren't the problem (I actually think they're kinda funny, as it's mostly Team Sonic vs. GUN but with Maddie and her sister, giving them a bit of spotlight, and also resolving the storyline with the wedding being a GUN setup) for me, it was the short run of the Sonic-centric scenes (maybe could've added 20 minutes of that specially with building up Tails' relationship with Sonic IMO).
I too am disappointed. But I got some annoying copyright issues that stopped me from uploading yesterday, so I did have to cut some parts out. But watch me go all in for Sonic 4!
1:14:30 there is one scene where they are breaking in where Gerald says “if you weren’t family I’d gut you like a fish.” So I believe that the dance scene was to kind of win Ivo back, saying “sorry about that, I’m still goofy and fun”
Seriously this movie was fantastic and PJ show you are my best RUclipsr besides DanTDM cause he’s goated but you are also right behind and when he retires you will officially be the greatest RUclipsr of all (new) time and all time eventually. The way you broke this movie down off script is insane, your skills of presentation, explanation, editing, foresight and just being a fan bringing us sonic community together is seriously one of the greatest moments you could have brought to us Thank you very much for your life and I really hope we get more videos from you just as high quality as this one and all previous ones We don’t want you to rush, we want you to give us the masterpieces and perfections you are creating just for our sake. Again. Thanks. From the Sonic Community
Honestly, I know this might sound dumb in a post-Endgame world, but I would like for Mephiles to be the big bag of a saga. Like, Sonic 4 might start the Black Doom saga, the culmination of which could be a movie, where Tram Sonic, Team Dark, and Team Rose (it will be too crowded for the Chaotix) fight Black Doom. Then the movie, after this, introduces Silver, which starts the Mephiles saga.
9/10 movie only thing that hurt it was the short runtime. imagine if when Sonic said he didnt know if they could trust GUN that led them to uncover a Hydra style fifth column within GUN led by Rockwell thats against Walters leadership being too trusting of team Sonic
I believe the reason Shadow hates Walters is because Walters is the one who ordered Shadow to be put in staces. To Walters it probably felt like the most human thing to do but Shadow was reliving the moment where Maria died over and over again for 50 years!
My guess as for why they don't use the black hole weapon more is that it has to be used carefully, they used it in a remote location that shadow would have wanted to erase anyway, and should not be used in an area where it would draw too much attention or could easily backfire
i mean it deleted a mountain.... make like 20 of these, plop them on fault lines and major cities, volcanos, under the ocean to create tsunamis.... completely destroy all human life on earth. easy.
If Robotnik is somehow still alive I can see his character wanting to make a family like what he got a taste of in this movie, like him and sage from frontiers. Metal could be his first robot kid if he still makes him in this canon.
During the Maria death scene, I still think that a Chaos Blast is likely what happened because we get that moment of the camera zooming in on Shadow as he is huffing and groaning in his grief, his eyes are glowing red. But the memory cut off as we have Shadow running to power the cannon, his power pulsing with so much power due to his rage. (I will comeback to this later) The reason I think this cutoff is for the reason of trauma. Shadow had never suffered a painful and traumatic loss before in his life, and we know from the film that Shadow truly cared and loved Maria as she was the one person who cared for him. So when he is faced with her body, he is heartbroken, traumatized, scared and rightfully, angry. So my Theory is that he did use chaos blast, (which will justify Walters putting Shadow into stasis) but in the aftermath, Shadow was horrified with what he did. Maria's death was already traumatic for him so the aftermath of what had happened after th Chaos Blast was too much so his mind completely blocked it out. Ive learned with trauma, although your mind blocks it out, your body remembers. So during the Eclipse Cannon, Shadow's body pulses with his power and rage that he had during Maria's death. While he doesn't remember what happened after the Chaos Blast, his body does. (Just a theory tho 😊)
To me, what makes this movie so amazing isn't Shadow by himself. Yes, Shadow was incredible and he was the star of the movie. But he wouldn't be nearly as amazing if he didn't have Sonic being parallel with him. Showing Sonic and Shadow's parallels made this film so good. Seeing Sonic pissed off was actually really scary and having Sonic nearly go down the same path Shadow was going down, but then instead snapping out of it and therefore showing Shadow he could also snap out of it was an incredible and powerful choice. Sonic is flawed. He is also capable of anger, hatred and revenge. Unlike in the games, where he's kinda presented as this perfect role model that inspires others. And this choice, seeing Sonic (live and) learn and develop actually made me feel proud of Sonic. Proud that he was able to overcome his rage and his anger, proud that he was able to connect with Shadow and show him the error of his ways. That's what makes this movie, and this franchise, so amazing. I'm excited to see Sonic 4, not just because of seeing Amy and Metal, but because I want to see where they take Sonic next. What he's going to overcome and how he grows because of it.
I only watch 1 hour video essays and reviews when I have work to do, as soon as I saw this video I started work again so I could watch it😂, good stuff as always mate
While the biolizard would have been cool I don’t know how they would have fit it in and I do like the fact that they still use the biolizard to enhance shadows character as when he sees it on tv as an alien it serves as a reminder to him of how is perceived by people
Sonic Movie 3 has become one of my favorite movies of all time. The story, the action, the emotion; it was all handled really well in my opinion. It was awesome seeing Shadow finally on the big screen. Seeing Team Sonic learn to work together. And the 3rd act especially being really awesome with the Super Sonic and Super Shadow fight. And then them teaming up with Live and Learn playing in the background. (The movie soundtrack overall was a big improvement over the first two.) I honestly really liked how Shadow and Maria’s dynamic was handled too. Seeing Maria first befriend Shadow, and them getting into mischief across the base. And the scene where they sit under the stars was great. Especially with the message that even when a Star is gone, its light will continue to shine. It made the scene where she dies in the explosion that much more tragic to me. And it honestly had me tearing up… Sonic 3 isn’t perfect by no means. But I’m really happy with how it turned out. And I really enjoyed watching it. Overall, I’m really happy with how the movies have been handled so far and I’m excited to see what they have planned for Sonic 4.
One thing I love about the Super Sonic quill is that Eggman calls Sonic by his name. Maybe my memory sucks, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen often in the movies if at all.
Fun fact: during the scene where Sonic is apologizing to Tails and Knuckles, Sonic renames Team Sonic to just Team AN UNEXPECTED YET AMAZING REFERENCE TO RISE OF LYRIC
I will say, it does make a whole lot of sense where Sonic knows how to show a lot of caution is in relation to GUN. Because Sonic's reason for isolation before the first movie is to avoid the very fate Shadow suffered. Sonic knew to hide, while Shadow as found and treated like a test subject. Sonic KNOWS he cannot trust GUN as a general rule (or anyone who wants to use his power for themselves). He likely only works with them so they'll largely leave him alone. Its like Walters said. Shadow was too dangerous to be allowed free, but too valuable to destroy after he lost Maria. Sonic, being allowed to be with his family, allows them to use Sonic for big alien threats and allow for conversations for other uses. Sonic agreed to deal with an alien threat. Notable, GUN wasn't the one who provided Team Sonic a means of capture. TAILS did. GUN just wanted Team Sonic to get Shadow to go down, it was Team Sonic who provided a means to neutralize the danger without excessive harm. GUN didn't even see fit to tell him it was another Hedgehog. Rockwell addresses them as aliens. Rockwell doesn't really see Sonic as a person who might have an opinion, just a power to throw at something, never mind he might have a conflict of interest at seeing another of his race. As soon as Shadow was no longer an active, present thing to DEAL with, Sonic catches on he needs more information because for Sonic, he just saw the result of the nightmare scenario for his first seven years. Even after Walters explains things and dies and is trusted with a superweapon, Sonic still isn't willing to trust GUN because why should he trust GUN to tell him the whole truth? GUN knows Sonic wants to help save the world, trusting him with a superweapon key isn't a poor decision, but GUN has ultimately done NOTHING for Sonic to trust THEM. They hunted him down with Robotnik. They catfished Rachel to get him. They tased him and prevented him from getting Tails help when he was hurt. All GUN has done was agreed to leave Sonic alone with his family, while they can recruit him for things to do. A lot of what Sonic does seems to stem from a sense of empathy with Shadow. He's the one who picked up someone had to have freed Shadow. That idea that Sonic is aware people want to use his power, so they would want to use Shadow. Like at this point, he didn't know if the key was even really that important, just that Walters thought it was. His only motivation is to find Shadow and find out information on the situation, to the point he was willing to work with Robotnik to find out the truth of Shadow. He walks through the base, taking note of what Shadow had lost and what he had to have gone through. We even see it in how he talks to Robotnik, that if Robotnik had people, maybe he would be different. Sonic recognized that Shadow's aggression is probably more his situation than anything. Its only after Gerald's reveal that Sonic realizes that there's a lot higher stakes than whatever is going to happen with Shadow. The movie just really emphasizes how truly empathetic Sonic is. Like he reached out to Knuckles in the last movie, Sonic spent this movie trying to reach out to Shadow right up until Shadow attacked Tom. And once Sonic realized he didn't want revenge, he still immediately turns back to trying to emphasize and reach out to Shadow because Sonic knew just how alike they were.
On the note about a potential Black Arms storyline: The shape of the comet that Shadow crash-landed in looked suspiciously like something Black Doom would have crafted.
Apparently Jim Carrey is open to returning and as eggman and the director said that if Carrey doesn’t want to comeback then eggman’s dead but if he does then he’ll find a way to live.
It's still so surreal that I got to see Sonic and Shadow on the theater and to see everyone cheer on them harder than for freaking Disney. And even more surreal the fact that Knuckles is voiced by freaking Idris Elba and Shadow is the breathtaking guy himself. This is truly the best timeline.
11:32 i’m pretty sure they’re not celebrating his 1 year anniversary of coming to earth, more likely his first or just an anniversary since they all came together as a “family”. in the cave scene tom says something along the lines of “this is really where you lived all those years” if im not terribly mistaken. along with that i just don’t think is physically possible for the first three movies to all happen with the same year considering the events that took place like sonic familiarizing himself with the residents of Greenhill, his road trip, rachel meeting, falling in love with, and agreeing to marry randle, i also think they mentioned that gun was formed after the events of sonic 1 but i think they might have retconned that in the third movie. sorry this was long i think about time lines a lot.
A really cool Easter egg I noticed on a second watch-through was that the monster in the movie Shadow and Maria were watching is actually the Biolizard. Later on there's a second Easter egg complimenting the first where Shadow compares himself to that monster in the movie. "Like I'm that horrible thing from that movie we watched." It's really cool considering the Biolizard is the Prototype of the Ultimate Life in some way making it a dark mirror of Shadow.
I love how you can just feel the passion of everyone involved with the production of the film. I recently watched the behind the scenes videos of the movie (which are great and you should check them out) and it truly displays how much care in placed in this movie. Jeff Fowler is such a great director who not only understands and loves the source material, but he genuinely loves what he's doing. Plus he's shares this passion with the actors and animators which makes it a seemingly healthy environment. People are happy to come to work because of his influence. Ben, Collen, Idris, Keanu, Lee and Carrey all really love and understand their characters. This is due the unironically genius casting, they just don't miss with the casting of these movies. What really shows the understand was a quote from Idris when describing Knuckles character, "he wasn't written to be comedic, it was just that what he said was so matter of fact and he started to lean into that". This is just a perfect summery of my the comedy with movie Knuckles works so well and shows an understanding of the character from both the director and voice actor. I know it may sound like the bare minimum for an actor to understand their character, but you'd be surprised just how often famous actors misunderstand their own characters. Oh, and of course, nothing displaces the passion for these films more than the initial redesign. The fact that it even happened at all speaks volumes to the care and passion for these movies. ----------------- These movies are really what brought Sonic back into the spotlight, they may have their flaws but without them we may not have had 'The Year of Shadow', the biggest year for sonic in a long long time. I have nothing but respect for these movies and the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog of all franchises has a successful trilogy of movies, something not even Mario has (yet) is astounding. I can't wait for movie 4. For the first time in a while, I can say with the utmost confidence, Sonic the Hedgehog is back!
I think having Walters be the one who killed Maria would have been interesting, but when Tom is disguised as Walters and Shadow sees him, I think Shadow would have done a lot more than just hospitalize him with a strong kit, which would be bad news for Tom.
Correction about timeline placement: Bearthday thing they say it's the anniversary, but they don't specify which, and also that it's known Sonic came to earth as a toddler basically. Additionally, Tom and Maddie right before the GUN helicopter pops up, state something along the lines of "After so many years, peace" which indicates Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles have been with them for AT MINIMUM 2 years. This also explains why Tom was surprised about Sonic's old cave, because it HAS been several years since they've been there, even if he has been there before.
There was a line that could be considered a hint to Gerald being more evil where during the “heist” he says to Ivo, “if you weren’t family I could’ve gut you like a pheasant….. I mean, try to keep up.” It’s a quick line but that was the hint for me.
Hey PJShow I'm watching the video as I am writing this, but I wanted to ask/let u know about a couple of things I thought about the movie. I think you could make a separate video on these points, but that's up to u. I do think these would be interesting though, but love ur vids! 1. How does the size of the master emerald get reduced? I thought the 2nd movie showed us that when the chaos emeralds left the inside of the master emerald, the master emerald shrunk down. Yet in this movie a smaller master emerald is shown to release the chaos emeralds, so whats going on there? 2. Is it now confirmed that black doom exists in the sonic movie universe? Cuz in the games Robotnik created shadow from black doom's essence ( i think at least) but here he came from a meteor in space. Does that mean shadow's original objective was to conquer earth and make it suitable for black doom to rule, but the meteor crash or his time with maria made him forget about that? 3. Can only hedgehogs breathe in space, or does it apply to foxes and echidnas too? Also how can hedgehogs breathe in space?! We see that shadow and sonic talking on the moon w/o any oxygen equipment on, which I think was a misstep because in SA2 only super forms went out in space, all other beings in space were on the ARK. 4. Why does anyone think Rachel is a GUN agent?! She was never related to GUN in ay way, she was just a part in one of their plans. 5. Is Chaos Control in the sonic games equivalent to teleportation in the movie? Because Chaos control was freezing time using the power of the chaos emeralds, but in the movie shadow just teleports. Also because he powered up the eclipse cannon using his own chaos energy ( assuming he teleports using chaos energy) , does that mean he can't teleport anymore? 6. Now this is a theory, but i think it might just happen- does a black hole in the sonic universe lead to black doom? if so, then it would explain the 4th movie plot and the post credits scenes of sonic 3 a lot. Black doom could prob have erased shadow's memories and made a deal with eggman where eggman would conquer earth for doom, but eggman would rule earth and use its resources to increase doom's army and power. Could b a similar dynamic between chaos and eggman in SA1. 7. Another Theory- What if GUN created metal sonic? They had shadow in lock up for years, and they would probably have studied sonic during all his doings in the 3 movies. What if metal sonic was created to replace sonic, as after the events of sonic 3, Director Rockwell would deeply mistrust sonic and hence the creation of metal sonic. 8. Why did Commander Walters never try to reach out to Gerald or Shadow to help them in any way? He knew about every event happening , and can understand when he was new ppl would not listen to him, but when he became the head of GUN, why not try to reach out and help the best way u can? 9. Why did Gerald wait so long to free shadow and enact his plan? I mean he could've done it 3 or 4 years after maria's death to free shadow and enact his whole plan, why wait 10 years? 10. if the GUN headquarters had a shield that could incinerate objects, why didn't GUN use that type of shields on the eclipse cannon or on the place where shadow was locked up? Seems like a useful feature to stop ppl from invading those places. Love the videos PJShow , keep it up !!
for #2 we dont know but probably he exists for #4 its just that Randall knows Rachel so it means they can just enter freely for 7 . it makes sense because maybe with director Rockwell as the leader of gun now she can technicly use metal sonic to arrest sonic because what sonic did was illegal. or metal sonic will just try to kill sonic but eventually betray gun and go into metal overlord for 8. its because Gerald was locked in prison for 50 years because he was working on building the eclipse cannon for gun (sketching the eclipse cannon plans) when he finished gun let him free because they didnt know Gerald would eventually use the cannon to destroy earth
The Sonic 3 movie was everything a Sonic fan could've asked for. The action sequences, the fun character interactions, the emotional story, the arcs that Sonic and Shadow go through, the sense of adventure, the nostalgia from the movie being based on Sonic Adventure 2 (one of the most influential games in the franchise), etc. There was no downtime; no cringe dance-off scenes, no wedding scenes, no nonsensical human drama. It was purely a Sonic movie with the human characters being the supporting cast. Unless a Sonic movie comes out that is completely in the Sonic world and not on Earth, I honestly feel that the Sonic movies may have just peaked in their 3rd installment; I don't see how the 4th movie can get any better.
I gotta analyze the movie a little more once it comes to digital, but it MIGHT have my favorite version of Shadow. Stuff like how he’s a broken creature with no purpose makes me more invested in his character and the fact that Shadow gets redeemed because Sonic let go of his own revenge over Tom is absolutely insane, yet it works. And I only played the Adventure games for the first time right before the movie as homework, yet the moments where Live and Learn plays still gave me goosebumps. This makes me anxious for where this cinematic universe will go next.
I'm actually ok with them revealing Shadow was alive immediately. I'm pretty sure everyone knew he was coming back, but it kinda also fits with how Shadow WAS supposed to die in Adventure 2 but was so popular that he was almost immediately brought back.
25:59 It's very early in the video so I don't know if you got it yet but like the biolizard does appear in the movie it was like a part of the movie that shadow and Maria were watching and that kind of instigated Shadows questions about himself whether or not he belongs on Earth and if he is as dangerous as the scientists believe him to be
Gerald is goofy for most of the film, but the line "The question isn't what Maria would've wanted. It's 'what do they deserve?'" is great and appropriately vengeful. It's definitely something Game Gerald would've said if he were alive in Adventure 2 and hadn't directly changed Shadow's memory. And Tom thirsting over Rockwell is an underrated bit, especially since his own wife is hotter imo.
Shadow didn’t beat the shit out of Tom he punch him in the solar plexus then knocked him out and it’s because shadow charged up his hand with his chaos energy power
I watched Sonic 3 in theaters with my college gaming club, and a couple of their friend groups as well. OUR THEATER EXPLODED IN CHEERING AND APPLAUSE THROUGHOUT _THE ENTIRE THIRD ACT._ IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE THEATER EXPERIENCE *OF MY LIFE.*
Gotta say, I agree with you on Tails' moment. They should've given it to him. The characters of Tails and maybe knuckles were a bit underutilized, as the movie mostly focused on Shadow's story (obviously) and his and Sonic's parallels. I did still like how they tried to give everyone a job, and noboby felt useless imo. The characters were still a whole lot better than their 2010's massacres. Also, two Jim Carreys was a dream come true. All in all, loved the movie, even if there were bad parts, they were greatly overshadowed by the good ones.
It's understandable Tails is just 8 years old it kinda make scene he couldn't handle that falling while knuckles obviously can, but just him willing to make that jump for sonic is great for his character
@@haiderraad468 True, it could also be an another example of Tails' worse endurance compared to the other members of team sonic. As you said, he is a child and portrayed as one in the movies, so it's an understandable decision from the writers.
You have no mate idea how many times I refreshed your page looking for a sonic three review. Today I can rejoice lol cheers to you and all the sonic fans alike.
I love how sonics characterization in the films is literally him trying to become the sonic we know from the games, obviously game sonic doesn't have character arcs or development, his motives, goals, and morals, are already very clear and he lives by them every single day of his life, but when you compare him to movie sonic the flaws in his character are very clear to see, and after everything hes been through throughout the third films, i can see sonic becoming who he is meant to be, just a guy who loves peace, freedom, friendship, and adventure.

Best movie I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen it twice in theaters. I’m going to binge it maybe at home on repeat.
Was waiting for you to drop!
I absolutely loved the movie. I wish it would drop on streaming platforms soon so I can watch it again
Do you know that the Godzilla reference monster is the Biolizard
According to the director The reason why Gerald is still alive ie because he was holding onto shadows quill and he was basically taking “hits” with it the chaos energy keeping him alive and slowly down his aging
Interesting
Huh, that is a pretty cool notion that chaos energy can slow ageing. Is there a video or some source where he said this? I'm curious now.
I thought that was plain obvious when I first saw it.
this might be why Shadow has looked the same for 50 years. or its just the effects the tube full of that liquid had.
@PyroFortress2007If the body’s frozen, I’m pretty sure it can’t age.
I noticed this as well! Great bit of characterization.
@@ginargent5077agreed
Shadow wouldn’t have been the 50 year old self we know him as during that time. He would’ve BEEN a child during his backstory

I actually kinda liked the Pokemon joke. Hearing Idris Elba as Knuckles say, “Pika Pika,” was just funny to me.
And I also like Knuckles has lightened up in this movie, he’s able to have fun and just enjoy the simpler things in life, but he still hasn’t forgotten his roots and will easily get serious if he needs too
I liked it too
I agree. Knuckles should grow a little too. He can learn culture and other things.
@@djco8919 yeah. For Knuckles to understand some Earth culture, he would have to catch on to the jokes which he does here, and I like that
Yeah saying that is the least funniest joke in the movie is a drag
Kunchi-what and Google maps are way worse jokes I’m sorry 💀
Fun fact: Sonic 3's runtime is 1h and 50m, making this video 13 minutes shorter then the actual movie.
@@kousand9917 it actually felt the longest compared to it's 2 others.
"You jumped out of a GUN helicopter. There's nothing to talk about."
Has to be one of the best lines to come out of Sonic as a whole and wonderfully delivered by Keanu.
My only real problem is I wish they fully locked in after Gerald revealed his true colors to Ivo (“you’re no Maria”) rather than have him continue doing typical Jim Carrey comedy stuff.
I agree. I like Movie Gerald and that was the only issue I had with his otherwise solid character
I agree, it would’ve worked much better if Gerald remained serious for the rest of the movie and properly painting him as the monster he had become, plus further show how truly different he was from Eggman.
@ agreed
Exactly. I hate that spanking scene
Ooh, that's be a really use of Sonic X as source material.
yeah I wonder if gun is still operating(it would be cool to see sonic friends and gun team up) also I can’t wait for a shadow spinoff(I just wanna see black doom in live action) I wonder if he is gonna have the same artstyle as longclaw or be more game accurate like sonic and others
they could even be yuri like how stobotnik is yaoi 😍
Hating aliens and being forced to team up with an alien that gay flirts with you (but in a way that american audiences can handle in a kids movie) and it's hilarious. I can see a shadow spinoff like Knuckles where this is a subplot.
I def think that's how rouge will be utilized, teaming with rockwell
if you're disappointed that Mufasa surpassed Sonic 3 at the box office, remember:
Sonic 3 is nominated for best video game adaptation.
Also Disney kept hoarding the more expensive screens.
international numbers still has sonic below, but domestic has Sonic at 1st
also way better reviews and ratings
This movie really set a new bar for video game movies in the future. Like, the first 2 sonic movies were fun and proved that video game movies could be good, but the sonic movie 3 was genuinely an amazing movie
I still respect the first two movies because without them, Sonic 3 would have been as good as it is.

Movie Sonic is NOT Game Sonic. Accept that. They're not the same sonic, but they have some similarities.
@karimkou7847 Like I said, he is slowly becoming more similar to the game counterpart, I'm fine with different interpretations of a main character.
One trait that's very overlooked to me but I love so much is when emotion isn't conveyed by speech but by sounds such as breathing, panting, etc
I love the scene where Shadow asks Gerald if this is Maria would've wanted and Gerald tells him it's not what she wanted but what humanity deserves and tell him to remember her death and the G.U.N raid and it soon shows a close up of Shadow all dirty and crying over Maria's corpse and then it cuts back to present shadow now fully fueled by anger of reliving painful memories then proceeds to charge the eclipse cannon with chaos energy and specifically hear the grunts that Shadow is making, I may be overthinking it but I think it conveys how he truly feeling, his grunts are full of anger but at the same time, shaky like he's about to cry out of anger which feels so strong to me. Again I may overthinking it but to me the sounds he made when running around the eclipse spoke me idk how else to describe
Agreed the whole scene was perfect with great direction from Jeff and a great performance from Keanu
And the chaos energy in his irises made it look like he was crying, I caught that on a rewatch.
This so real
Legit one of my favorite scenes in the movie, you can FEEL the anger and fury Shadow is letting out in this moment. The way he runs feels so aggressive and his constant pants and his breaths really sell the emotions he’s feeling in that moment
@@GameMaster-sh7trI feel as well that it's a good parallel to Sonic's emotional running moment in the first film after he has his baseball game.
Whilst Shadow is fueling himself on anger, rage and pain. Sonic is fueled by anguish and lonliness.
14:57 Just realized on this helicopter that it says S-A2, which is how most people abbreviate Sonic Adventure 2
That and also Sonic says the same line from the game (“Talk about low budget flights, no food or movies... *I'm outta here!”)*
same as in the game, the helicopter’s designation is “Sigma Alpha 2”
1:53:50
I also love how Shadow asks if it’s a missile and Gerald says “no… it’s moving too fast”
SONIC IS FASTER THAN NUKES CONFIRMED
I mean “Fastest thing alive” is his name for a reason
Also he was the size of a nuke in the first one
He was moving between continents in milliseconds....
Well, SUPER sonic is anyhow, that’s definitely *a* detail.
1:27:50 If Amy does have a moment with Metal, they could do another scene like the talk between Sonic and Knuckles or Sonic and Shadow, but instead of joining Amy he rejects her like he does to Sonic in the comics
Imagine if they do something similar to the OVA where Sonic tries to save Metal but he rejects and says "there can only be *one* real Sonic"
@@Se_fosse_dublado That would also be really awesome
@Abner-gu3ve I agree, honestly way better at least for me.
@Paolo-ec2si yeah. And there’s nothing wrong with SA2. I just think this movie did a better job with introducing Shadow
Yes, even though it wasn't his fault, it makes sense that shadow holds him responsible
The movies have done a wonderful and better job at making Team sonic actually feel like close friends , and having tails and knuckles feel like actual friends

@@haiderraad468better for a 6th movie, so it's a parallelism with 2006
What I think helps this movie a lot in terms of Shadow and Sonic's relationship is that, unlike in SA2, movie Sonic actually has a backstory. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I have always found Sonic and Shadow's relationship in SA2 a little flat mostly because, outside of looks and speed, they have almost nothing in common because Sonic doesn't have a definitive backstory in the games.
Hmm. Ok. I do like how this movie’s parallels between Sonic and Shadow feel more concrete tho
Sonic has somewhat of a back story it's just extremely simple like Eggman's.
Basically Sonic is vibing and this fat nerd is kidnapping all of his animal friends and Sonic doesn't approve of his friends being trapped in robots and sets out to stop him.
The Lines
A Light Shins Even Tough The Star is Gone And There Are No Winners In Revenge ARE SO GOOD
I honestly didn't mind the Pokémon Joke.
Actually, Shadow was facing away when those guys shot them. Maybe he thought it WAS Commander Walter’s…?
25:41 Honestly, the biolizard could be saved for another movie. We don't know of Shadow's origin story, since in this universe he's introduced as falling from a comet. Maybe the Biolizard could be introduced as a plot device in a new movie that talks and introduces more about Shadow's backstory.
Honestly even as someone who usually considers herself very left-winged, that "woman in the military" joke landed perfectly, because
a) it was said by a villain - if Sonic for example or Tom had said that and it would have remained uncommented like that, it would have had a sour note with it, but Gerald being a(n 110 years old!) villain, and his joke even having Robotnik reacting to it with knit' brows (if I remember correctly, that is) contextualizes the joke as an archaic, frowned upon pov, and
b) it was almost relatable - I think quite a few of us have grandparents (and/or specifically grandfather's) with a "back in the olden days, men still went to war and women stayed at home cooking" problematic kind of mindset. This paired together with Gerald (who's, again, a *villain*) saying it when Agent Rockwell has a pretty badass position (from a more or less objective point of view, because she is quite high in the ranks and not just an unnamed soldier), clearly paints the picture of a joke being a harmless, somehow even feminist, joke.
the worst joke was when sonic said 'konichiwhat' you cannot change my mind.
@@ItsJustMeRei yeah. I don’t mind Movie Sonic’s jokes but that was just terrible 😂
It would’ve been better if it was quick
I bet the Pikachu joke cost 3/4ths the movies budget
58:12 Also the red electricity from Knuckles' glows intensely on Sonic referencing his anger
Yup, juxtaposed with Sonic's electricity is glowing on Knuckles the same way to show his desperation to stay calm.
AGREE 👍🏻💯
Hopefully, this Shadow movie will start the Black Doom saga.
I agree, and one more thing I love about this movie is that Shadow falling to earth in a meteor could hint to the existence of Black Doom
@@valentinkambushev4968
They need to introduce all the teams first, you need the entire Sonic cast to take on Black Doom
That could be fun. Sonic crushing on Amy would be a unique choice but one that could fit.
Amy should already have a crush on him like kyle resse
As long as amy doesn't go back to being an obsessive stalker like from the games it's completely fine by me
I don’t see it for Game Sonic to develop a crush but, I 100% see it for Movie Sonic. It would be nice, but if they don’t do it, it’s okay.
@jesseallen2415You have never met an actual stalker and it shows
I actually really liked the robotnik and gerald dance scene.
@Steve-e3v6e fr 😭
I hate that scene it could’ve been shortened for something actually meaningful and not unfunny
@inkedthedemon Lots of people think otherwise. Plus, like I said, it shows how narcissistic ivo is from his overconfidence. Pretty meaningful towards his character.
My mom was offering to go out into town and go to the cinema. The only good movie in there was Sonic 3. She regrets not seeing the other two now.
Deadass, I didn't know there were two end credits scenes, so I had no clue Shadow survived for like a week, lol
You forgot something during Team Sonic Vs Shadow. When Sonic drops in front of Shadow, it's a call back to Shadow The Hedgehog's intro
@@thepjshow You should make a video on Yakuza, it would be awesome
God the Halo show was like jamming a torch into my eyes
Knuckles was controversial? It was just a comedy about finding a home in a foreign place, how would that be controversial?
@@ChamAramis Because it sucked
This was the 1st movie i've ever watched in the theaters and i loved every moment of it. It is my favorite movie ever.(Live And Learn!!!)
What an amazing first film to watch in the theater! Glad you enjoyed it! Sonic fans really won with this movie
I like how the video is almost as long as the movie lol. Can’t wait to watch this.
Sonic 3 had a decent amount cut yet still felt full man. What a franchise we have now
44:15 i assume he lived so long cause of shadow's quill
It was because of shadow's quills. The writers said that was the reason but they didn't show it because of the pacing they had for the movie
1:26:12 I can’t express to you how much I screamed during that moment in the theater.
I was hoping for a video just about Paramount Shadow or Gerald Robotnik, but yeah, this video is better!
I'm gonna make individual character analysis video in the future. Robotnik is definitely on my radar.
@@thepjshow And Shadow! This movie has a great adaptation!
@@thepjshow yessir. Cannot wait 👍🏾
Sonic 3 review that’s almost long as the movie itself
Should’ve been longer, I’m disappointed
I too am disappointed. But I got some annoying copyright issues that stopped me from uploading yesterday, so I did have to cut some parts out.
But watch me go all in for Sonic 4!
@@thepjshow Sonic 4 review should be 6 hours long minimum
Super sonic and super shadow teaming up was so amazing 💙❤️🔥
One of my highlight moments of the year!
@@thepjshow facts 💯
1:14:30 there is one scene where they are breaking in where Gerald says “if you weren’t family I’d gut you like a fish.” So I believe that the dance scene was to kind of win Ivo back, saying “sorry about that, I’m still goofy and fun”

If Mephiles makes an appearance in the next movie, I pray to the gods above they get Freddy Kruger himself, Robert Englund to voice him.
Shit that would be awesome
Honestly, I know this might sound dumb in a post-Endgame world, but I would like for Mephiles to be the big bag of a saga. Like, Sonic 4 might start the Black Doom saga, the culmination of which could be a movie, where Tram Sonic, Team Dark, and Team Rose (it will be too crowded for the Chaotix) fight Black Doom. Then the movie, after this, introduces Silver, which starts the Mephiles saga.
@@valentinkambushev4968 oh oh if black doom appears maybe have Kevin Michael Richardson voice him
And. Think Robert England is a perfect casting. For Mephiles in fact just imagine how he would sound as mephiles
You're getting ahead of yourself
(I will comeback to this later)
The reason I think this cutoff is for the reason of trauma.
That would've been an interesting way to tie him more directly to Sonic, given that it's basically what happened in the first film.
Agreed, Shadow is great. Having Sonic as that parallel does so much for both characters
I only watch 1 hour video essays and reviews when I have work to do, as soon as I saw this video I started work again so I could watch it😂, good stuff as always mate
While the biolizard would have been cool I don’t know how they would have fit it in and I do like the fact that they still use the biolizard to enhance shadows character as when he sees it on tv as an alien it serves as a reminder to him of how is perceived by people
There where a deleted scene where it explained that Gerald lived thanks to the quill of Shadow
(The movie soundtrack overall was a big improvement over the first two.)
I honestly really liked how Shadow and Maria’s dynamic was handled too. Seeing Maria first befriend Shadow, and them getting into mischief across the base. And the scene where they sit under the stars was great. Especially with the message that even when a Star is gone, its light will continue to shine. It made the scene where she dies in the explosion that much more tragic to me. And it honestly had me tearing up…
Sonic 3 isn’t perfect by no means. But I’m really happy with how it turned out. And I really enjoyed watching it. Overall, I’m really happy with how the movies have been handled so far and I’m excited to see what they have planned for Sonic 4.
This video was so good I watched start to finish with no distractions, I never got bored and it was just really high quality. Great job!
One thing I love about the Super Sonic quill is that Eggman calls Sonic by his name. Maybe my memory sucks, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't happen often in the movies if at all.
Fun fact: during the scene where Sonic is apologizing to Tails and Knuckles, Sonic renames Team Sonic to just Team
AN UNEXPECTED YET AMAZING REFERENCE TO RISE OF LYRIC
On the note about a potential Black Arms storyline:
The shape of the comet that Shadow crash-landed in looked suspiciously like something Black Doom would have crafted.
Apparently Jim Carrey is open to returning and as eggman and the director said that if Carrey doesn’t want to comeback then eggman’s dead but if he does then he’ll find a way to live.
And that is the perfect stance to have on it, imo
My theory about why rockwell hates aliens is that she's a parallel to Abraham tower and she lost her family in the gun raid
To complete that image, Tails is voiced by his current VA for the games.
-----------------
These movies are really what brought Sonic back into the spotlight, they may have their flaws but without them we may not have had 'The Year of Shadow', the biggest year for sonic in a long long time.
I liked the Pokemon joke. Also, Jim has said he wants to come back for Sonic 4 and beyond. So he likely didn't die.
Love the videos PJShow , keep it up !!
for #2 we dont know but probably he exists
for #4 its just that Randall knows Rachel so it means they can just enter freely
for 7 . it makes sense because maybe with director Rockwell as the leader of gun now she can technicly use metal sonic to arrest sonic because what sonic did was illegal. or metal sonic will just try to kill sonic but eventually betray gun and go into metal overlord
for 8. its because Gerald was locked in prison for 50 years because he was working on building the eclipse cannon for gun (sketching the eclipse cannon plans) when he finished gun let him free because they didnt know Gerald would eventually use the cannon to destroy earth
Nothing more dopamine enducing than listening to an OG Sonic fan geek out about the final fight scene.
Shadow was Aura farming the whole film😭
I'd watch an entire spin off show that is set 50 years in the past just showing Shadow and Maria being siblings getting up to hijinks.
Imagine being excited to see a building you recognize and see on a regular basis in a film and you find out they fucking erased it 😆
I'm actually ok with them revealing Shadow was alive immediately. I'm pretty sure everyone knew he was coming back, but it kinda also fits with how Shadow WAS supposed to die in Adventure 2 but was so popular that he was almost immediately brought back.
when shadow went "revenge-guac" I knew this movie had reached full peak status
25:59
It's very early in the video so I don't know if you got it yet but like the biolizard does appear in the movie it was like a part of the movie that shadow and Maria were watching and that kind of instigated Shadows questions about himself whether or not he belongs on Earth and if he is as dangerous as the scientists believe him to be
12:05 considering eggman and Tom both refer to interactions with sonic as years, it's more likely the first film takes place in 2021.
OUR THEATER EXPLODED IN CHEERING AND APPLAUSE THROUGHOUT _THE ENTIRE THIRD ACT._
IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE THEATER EXPERIENCE *OF MY LIFE.*
LIVE AND LEARN BABY

Gotta say, I agree with you on Tails' moment. They should've given it to him.
The characters of Tails and maybe knuckles were a bit underutilized, as the movie mostly focused on Shadow's story (obviously) and his and Sonic's parallels.
I did still like how they tried to give everyone a job, and noboby felt useless imo.
The characters were still a whole lot better than their 2010's massacres.
Also, two Jim Carreys was a dream come true.
All in all, loved the movie, even if there were bad parts, they were greatly overshadowed by the good ones.
It's understandable
Tails is just 8 years old it kinda make scene he couldn't handle that falling while knuckles obviously can, but just him willing to make that jump for sonic is great for his character
@@saskaskywars5313 I agree. Was Tails underutilized? Maybe? But I do agree that every character was given something to do or a role to play
@@haiderraad468 True, it could also be an another example of Tails' worse endurance compared to the other members of team sonic.
As you said, he is a child and portrayed as one in the movies, so it's an understandable decision from the writers.
man that tails pokémon joke was funny asl 😭
1:30:19 Actually, in the film's OST, the track that plays during Shadow's sacrifice and Team Sonic's reunite is named "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog"
You have no mate idea how many times I refreshed your page looking for a sonic three review. Today I can rejoice lol cheers to you and all the sonic fans alike.
Love this movie I can’t wait for sonic 4 🔥🔥💙
You and me both!
1:35 Old-School Runescape. Hyper-focusing on getting 99 Runecraft this year so videos like this are a godsend 😏
