The EGO AH-1530 will work on a Kobalt Gen4 40-volt 15-in Trimmer model KST 1040A-03. I saw one with the head removed and it is the same as the 24v. The head that comes on this trimmer isn't that bad. It is east to load. Just know that this an option for you.
@@gatorphins you can use the speed feed 400 if you are using the current version. It has to have an 8mm shaft. My first video on the Kobalt 24v is with a Speed Feed head. If the 40v is an older model it will have a 10mm shaft and you would need to tap the green adapter with a 10mmx1.25 pitch tap. Then follow the instructions for the 80v Kobalt. If the 40v is a Multi-tool the speed feed screws right on and the Ego will not work on it.
I like the EGO head as well, if you want to wake the trimmer up power wise try a roll of the Oregon .080 "twist" line, in cc terms you'll feel like you went from a 21cc to a 27cc engine, and the twist line is suppose to feed better as it's not suppose to stick together like plain round/square line does ... in NC we have high humidity which causing sticking. Now ... I am going to "up-armor" as I've come to call it. How? Got the idea from you, your 400 Echo head w/bolt washer got me to thinking. So I experimented with my Toro, took a 1 1 1/2" OD dender washer, and curved it by the hammer process on an old socket to get the right "conical" shape to fit the bumper ball, then sanded the areas and used 3M clear silicone to hold it together, that was about 20 to 22 working hours ago, I'm shopping Amazon to find some 2 1/3" to 3" fender washers to "up-armor" the Ego head. Enjoy the videos, BJ.
Let us know how that works for you. Make sure the spring fits in around the nut. You might just get away with using foil tape on the cap. The EGO tends to wear on the edges more. Your Toro may have a better motor. It is good to know that the EGO head will work on more models of Trimmers. Every part on that EGO head is available individually. I am very happy with the Husqvarna line. I have the Titanium (.095) and X-Pro (.095~.105). The X-Pro version rarely breaks. I bought 200' of 1 and 100' of another. That was 2 years ago. It will probably last another 2 yrs. Ugly twist .080 was the first line I used. It was with the original head. I just found it to break to easy. It could just be the size (.080). Thanks for liking the video! Glad it helped.
I was actually looking to replace my trimmer because I hate the old head so much. I've never been able to get the line to advance no matter how hard I smack it on the ground. Ordered the new head just now. Can't wait to try it out.
As far as the gap at the top with the 400 speed feed head, the only draw back I'd see is you wouldn't want to trim up around water or first thing in the morning due to the water aspect. For trimmer line, I kinda like the Rino brand in .080 size.
I designed a disc that could be 3D printed to fill that space but I have not been able to get it printed. The design is on Thingaverse. Not sure if it woud fix the problem, but the motor would not be so exposed. I am sold on using Husqvarna Titanium X-Pro in .095.
Got the head on and it works flawlessly!! Thank you so much!! Only question is - when you need more line to come up, have you seen any issues with bumping and line not coming out?
I have not had a problem with the bump feed. You could be experiencing some break in tightness. The first couple times I questioned how much it was feeding also. Now after using it for a month, it is feeding fine. Try it manually. You can see how much it puts out on each bump. I got 3/4" on a single bump. The original head could use .080 line. I use a .095 line that doesn't tend to break often.
This was a great, informative video and review. I have amost all Kobalt tools and i was just thinking the other day how great the quality to price-point was in comparison to the red and yellow brands. With that said, the 24v trimmer sucks. The power is great, run-time is great. But loading the head is a big hassle. The bump feed NEVER works correctly. I find myself constantly pulling the head apart out in the middl2 of my yard to removed debris or untangle the line (inside the spool). It got so bad, at one point, i ended up buying the "Ugly head" as a replacement. It was an epic failure and almost burned up the motor. Thanks again for this awesome review. I will be ordering the Eco ah1530 asap when I'm done here.
That was my experience with the original Kobalt head. It would feed properly. I always had to manually push in the bump and then pull line out. I have used the EGO head three times now. It does what it is supposed to: it is easy to load and use. Glad I could help.
It is very easy to load. You can see in the video that it loads from multiple places. You don't have line arrows up like you do on some twist in heads. I show loading it in the video (6:30), before the demo of using it.
I successfully took the cap off the EGO head without too much effort. I was coming at about a 90° angle. With a flat blade screwdriver at a 15°~30° angle pushing on the clip, the cap will release. I still can't remove it with my fingers alone. Pushing the cap back on is easier also. Just heard from the small engine man and the trimmer head I purchased at Home Depot will not work. He said the shaft on my 40V is smaller than what will fit that trimmer head. Do I need to send you my photo and if so HOW do I get it to you? I see @geotrick but how do I email that? Not very utube savy. can't even find my conversations to you on here

Works flawlessy on my 24v Kobalt and you made the install a less than 10 minute job. Thanks!!
Excellent!

Has the new one arrived yet?
@@geotrick Yes, came last week Friday and I've got it installed. I haven't tried it out though since I just weed-whacked my yard last Thursday.

It works great and is simple enough to put together
Thanks, waiting for my new head. Lowes said they would give me a new trimmer because they didn't have heads but couldn't find my receipt so no bueno!

Great video. Confused though on what line is best? Did you use .095, or .105, and what brand. Wasn’t clear in the video.
I usually use Husqvarna titanium X Pro in .095. You can still use .080 if you want.
