Between the hammer and the Anvil is my favorite solo of all time how Tipton turns that note into a harmonic without retouching the string is insane. And that's coming from a maiden fan
@thrallsofmetal dude, how the hammer hits the anvil like a bass drum in the build-up to the solo is all time. Those bastards knew how to create tension in their music.
Love this video. Love the call back to when Tipper Gore got big mad at Prince because she brought a soundtrack to an R rated film for her too young to understand daughter. It was fun being a metal head teen back then.
As excited as I am for this, I am scared at the same time. Judas Priest Ranking 1. Defenders of the Faith 2. Sad Wings of Destiny 3. Painkiller 4. Stained Class 5. Hell Bent for Leather 6. Screaming for Vengeance 7. Point of Entry 8. British Steel 9. Sin After Sin 10. Angel of Retribution 11. FirePower 12. Rocka Rolla 13. Ram It Down 14. Redeemer of Souls 15. Turbo 16. Nostradamus 17. Jugulator 18. Demolition
One of the greatest metal bands to ever do it! So many Classics in their discography, but if i had to pick their best, id have to pick Defenders Of The Faith, for me it their most complete release, with no weak links whatsoever! Loved listening to you guys doing this discography, the best reviewers on the net imo.
My all time favorite album from J.P. and in my opinion is also one of the most Greatest Metal albums ever released in history. STAINED CLASS. Great video guys 🤘🍺
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I have to agree with you there. My top 6 were all in the running for number 1 but Stained Class is just too damn good to not be number 1 in my book.
Although it's not Heavy Metal as it would come to be, I'm a huge fan of Sad Wings Of Destiny, it has such different songs in so different styles, this album is a whole music trip. Great work, guys, grind on \m/
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I see Sad Wings as a bridge between classic rock and what heavy metal would become. It still has that big 70's rock sound but there's something more sinister bubbling just under the surface. It's a brilliant album.
Good rankings gentlemen. I’m someone who is a Turbo defender, though admittedly it’s far from my favorite album. My ranking would be as follows: 1: Painkiller 2: Sad Wings of Destiny 3: Stained Class 4: Defenders of the Faith 5: Sin After Sin 6: Screaming for Vengeance 7: Firepower 8: Jugulator 9: British Steel 10: Turbo 11: Killing Machine/Hell Bent For Leather 12: Ram It Down 13: Point of Entry 14: Rocka Rolla 15: Angel of Retribution 16: Redeemer of Souls 17: Nostradamus 18: Demolition
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I figured out of all the more divisive albums that Turbo would have possibly more fans. Outside of like 2 tracks I just can't get into it but those 2 tracks are solid as hell.
1. Hell Bent for Leather 2. Screaming For Veganance 3. Stained Class 4. Painkiller 5. Defenders of the Faith 6. British Steel 7. Sad Wings of Destiny 8. Point of Entry 9. Turbo 10. Firepower 11. Angels of Retribution 12. Sin After Sin 13. Redeemer of Souls 14. Juglator 15. Rocka Rolla 16. Ram It Down 17. Nostradamus 18. Demolition
Great ranking video as always. I really look forward to these. The holy trinity for me will always be Painkiller, Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. These albums are the essence of Priest for me. They do have several albums that are hot manure, but the majority is pretty damn good to classic. Obviously, a VERY important band in the history of heavy metal. 1. Screaming for Vengeance 2. Painkiller 3. Defenders of the Faith 4. British Steel 5. Stained Class 6. Hell Bent for Leather 7. Firepower 8. Sad Wings of Destiny 9. Sin After Sin 10. Jugulator 11. Angel of Retribution 12. Redeemer of Souls 13. Ram it Down 14. Point of Entry 15. Demolition 16. Rocka Rolla 17. Turbo 18. Nostradamus
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! This one was a lot of fun to do. Years ago I might have favored 80's Priest over 70's Priest but here lately Stained Class and Sad Wings of Destiny have been some of my go to jams for Priest. Screaming for Vengeance will always be a favorite though. That album is fantastic. Solid ranking here, man.
FUCK YES. My first metal band and one of my favorites! Hot take: Ram it Down is an underrated album. Not NEARLY their best, but I think most people don’t talk about it nearly as well as I believe it deserves. Can’t wait to see everyone’s ranking! 🤘
1. Defenders Of The Faith 2. Painkiller 3. Sad Wings Of Destiny (Unleashed In The East) 4. Screaming For Vengeance 5. Rocka Rolla 6. Killing Machine/Hellbent For Leather 7. Stained Class 8. British Steel 9. Angel Of Retribution 10. Sin After Sin 11. Firepower 12. Redeemer Of Souls 13. Ram It Down 14. Jugulator 15. The other Ripper album 16. Turbo 17. Nostradamus 18. Point Of Entry
I agreee with a lot of what Nick says in this video. My top three are Sad Wings, Sin after Sin, and STained Class. But I actually love teh song "last Rose of Summer". It's my favourite "pure" ballad Priest ever did (the second half of Dreamer/deceiver is really heavy!). It's got such an awesome, laid back feeling to it, and almost a bit jazzy at times, with Simon Philips' drums and even Ian Hill's bass (for once!) kind of setting the mood. That album is just magical as far as I'm concerned. It's the S Trilogy that's the best of Priest for me, but we also got.... 5. Painkiller and 4. Screaming for Vengeance.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I really gravitate more towards those early classics more so now. I like the more lavish songwriting a bit more but I do love those 80's gems as well but for different reasons. I still can't really get into Last Rose of Summer though. For me it feels out of place on Sin After Sin and honestly if it wasn't a Judas Priest song I might appreciate it more. Still, that album rules.
Yeah, the 70s stuff often sounds like Priest at their smartest -- even the lyrics are sometimes smarter. They never wrote a song like "Savage" after the 70s, and nothing really as emotional as 'Beyond the Realms of Death". Regarding "last Rose of Summer", it seems like featuring at least one somewhat different and arguably out-of-place song on a Priest album might have been a common thing. I'd argue on Stained Class it's of course the cover "Better by You, better than me" -- which rules. In the 80s Priest even made use of outside songwriters, and still managed to make it an acceptable choice on their albums. For me, "Last Rose of Summer" may be Sin after Sin's "weird track", but it totally works -- the instant that opening set of hendrix-like guitar chords starts I feel this charged, warm feeling enter me. I love the lower vocals, the way the guitars and bass play together, the jazzy chorus part (if it is really a chorus)...yeah, really great song for me, far better than many heavy bands' ballad-type songs, up there with the best of Scorpions' softer tunes from the era.
Definitely a hard catalog to rank, I did it with Eli over on Dark Hymns From The Cold North a couple weeks ago. Nick, glad to see you had the 70s albums decently high on the list! Super cool to hear all your thoughts and interesting that, besides a few things here and there, all 5 of us ranked the albums pretty differently. Goes to show how strong a lot of the albums are, even if they do have some turds in there. Love how they went through so many different phases but almost all of their stuff is still instantly identifiable as Priest (mostly due to Rob’s vocals). He’s absolutely a metal god and the fact he’s still able to sing the way he does at 72 is insane. I need to check out his Halford band one of these days…recently watched a video of him filling in for Sabbath which was awesome as well! Here’s my top 10 (at the moment): 1. Painkiller 2. Sin After Sin 3. Sad Wings of Destiny 4. Stained Class 5. Defenders of the Faith 6. Screaming for Vengeance 7. British Steel 8. Hell Bent for Leather 9. Rocka Rolla 10. Firepower Great video as always, looking forward to whoever you guys rank next! Cheers 🤘🤘
Good ranking by you guys, my very favorite by them is Sad Wings. 🤘 And please find the time and do a ranking of both the Hypocrisy and even of Devin Townsend discography that would be fun by you to do. 😃
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Sad Wings is such a killer album. We've got a couple more to knock out before we select more but I'm down for either of those. We might break up Devy into his various projects though and do some shorter ones.
Love this list!! Just saw both Priest and Maiden at Power Trip in California and they both sound elite still 🤘gun to my head…I gotta go Defenders of the Faith as my #1…what an iconic discography and legendary band🙌
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I may have to catch them on their arena tour next year. I haven't seen Priest since 2004 so I'm due. Ranking out the top 6 on this was tough. Almost any one of those albums could have been my number one.
Another great ranking!!! I wish you guys did these more often but I totally understand why that's hard to do. And my holy fuckery I wish Shredlord was more regular the channel.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, these generally take time to put together and getting schedules to line up can be difficult as well. I'm hoping we get more of Shred on here as well. He's been pretty busy with work and such lately but he'll be back for sure.
@thrallsofmetal all you guys are awesome so it's great seeing the guys we don't see as much anymore with you and Jon. So glad Rin is back too. Just a suggestion for the next round of Discography rankings, but why don't you guys rank some smaller discographies? Like between 7-10 or something. It would just be cool to see more of these next year. Just a thought. Either way, I'll be watching my friend.
After months of anticipation, it has finally arrived. 👍 My personal favorite jumps between Stained Class and Defenders of the Faith. My hot take, is that I like Turbo more than Ram It Down, Point of Entry and even British Steel. Are you guys going to go over Dream Theater? They’ve already got 15 full lengths and are working on their next one. Would love to get Shredlord’s take on The Astonishing (Nostradamus v2) 😂
Necrotic Nick- I'm glad you dug the video, man. Yeah, my top 6 were in the running for that #1 spot at one point but Stained Class is just about perfect in my mind. Yeah, we definitely disagree on Turbo lol. I know Shred still wants to do Dream Theater so I suspect we'll do that one at some point.
enjoyed this! you guys really know how to make an enjoyable ranking video. but i wonder where you guys place invincible shield! to me, easily the best they’ve put out since painkiller. such an incredible album
My Ranking 1. Screaming For Vengeance 2. Sad Wing's of Destiny 3. Stained Class 4. Sin After Sin 5. Painkiller 6. Hell Bent For Leather 7.Point of Entry 8.British Steel 9.Firepower 10.Redeemer Of Souls 11. Defender's of the Faith 12.Ram it Down 13.Rocka Rolla 14. Angels of Retribution 15.Turbo 16.Nostradamus 17.Juggulator 18. Demolition
I'm with alot of other people on here always really look forward too album rankings I've gone back to previous ones on many other bands and watched them Multiple times. You guys always know your stuff and keep us Metal heads engaged.Always good work from you guys,Cheers.
Damn, I hadn't realized you hadn't done these guys yet. So I'd been working at a tire shop when I was 10 years old. I'd heard the British Steel singles(WHJY providence, thank you), but didn't know who they were. But then Another Thing Comin came on, and I asked an older guy working there, 'Ritchie, who the hell is this?' "That's Judas Fuckin Priest man" And I was hooked. Defenders is the first JP album I anticipated and bought new on release, and is still my favorite. My ranking in a separate reply. YOU GUYS ARE THE FUKKIN BEST!!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, we've been meaning to cover this band for awhile now, it just ended up taking some time. I heard and saw them first courtesy of MTV back in the day so they became both the sound of and the image of heavy metal for me. I just thought they were badass despite how cheesy the videos were. This one was a lot of fun to do not only for the tunes but also the memories.
Another classic for the Thralls roller decks, lads! Great to see you taking on Priest, and some great points made. I love that you highlighted "Bloodstone" and "Riding on the Wind" from Screaming, as I feel they get forgotten about a bit. "The Hellion/Electric Eye" song/intro concept is so influential. I've got to throw "Desert Plains" in from Point of Entry, which I think is an overlooked gem. My top 5: 1. Stained Class - it's perfect and really ahead of its time; 2. Screaming for Vengeance - a lot of nostalgia in here, but ten solid and memorable tracks with some killer standouts; 3. Sin After Sin - Between this and Sad Wings, I really believe the 'metal guitar sound' starts here; 4. British Steel - again, lots of nostalgia for me as a teenager, but the songs kill it; 5. Painkiller - love Chris Tsangarides production and the songs are so good, KK and Glen raised their lead game; no one expected it. I'm also going to say this: I do love Turbo. It's got it's flaws and the production is radical even for that time, but some of the songs are just so damn catchy. Put it on in the car, drive up slowly to your mate at the traffic lights, grab your emergency stick-on moustache from the glove compartment, and wait for fireworks!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, this one was a lot fun to go over since this band's influence on metal is pretty much immeasurable. Man, Bloodstone pretty much lives rent free in my head. It's such a catchy song. That's a solid top 5 there. Those are all albums I love for damn sure.
That Live in London performance is criminally underrated and under appreciated. I got into Priest because of Demolition and the rest is history. Ripper Owens saved them while Rob left to do fight and two.
Great ranking, gents! As usual, I fall mostly in line with Nick's ranking. I'd probably put Painkiller at my number 2 or 3, album just shreds. What an amazing run Priest has had over the years. Was awesome seeing Nick and Jon again in Detroit! Sanctuary has all the best shows, I swear. What an experience that was to have the chick from Stabbing cover for Ricky Myers! All the bands ruled that night.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, my top 8 were all in the running for #1 at certain points. I love all those albums a lot but honestly I still enjoy most of this discography and I'm stoked for that new one after those killer singles. Dude, that show was a fucking blast. Every band killed that night and the front woman from Stabbing did a killer job filling in for Ricky. At points she really sounded like Frank. It was great running into you again, man. I'll see you at the next one whichever show that may be lol.
@@thrallsofmetal yeah the new singles are real nice! I'm hoping Invisible Shield stands alongside Firepower. Sounds like a plan! Next time I see you and Jon up here I'll have to get a pic with ya. 🤘
An amazing band. Many great albums with a couple of shockers. 1. Sin After Sin 2. Screaming for Vengeance 3. Defenders of the Faith 4. Painkiller 5. Stained Class 6. Sad Wings of Destiny 7. Firepower 8. British Steel 9. Hell Bent for Leather 10. Ram it Down 11. Angel of Retribution 12. Point of Entry 13. Redeemer of Souls 14. Turbo 15. Rocka Rolla 16. Jugulator 17. Nostradamus 18. Demolition
Just watched the ranking. Absolutely killer job on this ranking. Loved it. Also thanks for taking the bullet on Nostradamus so the rest of us don’t have to 😂. Hopefully that memory won’t haunt you too long 😂
Great video. I wasn't that into Priest in my early years as a metal head until a friend gave me Painkiller. That's been my favorite Priest album ever since. Fun thing about Faulkner, he also played on Christopher Lee's metal album.
Necrotic Nick- I do love Painkiller. Every song on that album is pretty much vicious and to the point. Scott's drum work really kicked up the intensity several notches too. I never knew about Faulkner being on Christopher Lee's metal album. I still haven't really listened to it though. It might be time to finally check that one out.
@@thrallsofmetal I love Christopher Lee, but his albums are okay at best and that's mostly the "Holy shit! It's Christopher Fucking Lee!" factor. Except his single "Heavy Metal Christmas". That's just fantastic.
This is a difficult ranking for me, the shit albums are pretty cut and dry in terms of ranking, and I have my top 3 set in stone, but everything else is almost entirely interchangeable. Priest is one of the most important bands in my life and they have released some of my favourite albums of all time. I saw them at Bloodstock in 2021, one of the first festivals to come back in the UK after the pandemic, and it was hands down the most perfect setlist I have ever seen in my life, I would not have changed the order or swapped any songs out for others. I am seeing them again next year with Saxon and Uriah Heep and can't fucking wait, I also absolutely love Panic Attack and think that if that standard is upheld for the rest of the new album, we could potentially have an album that surpasses Firepower. I'll give the ranking a go 18) Nostradamus (yeah this is awful, I've listened to the whole thing just once and wanted to die by the end) 17) Demolition (also awful with no redeeming qualities) 16) Jugulator (Cathedral Spires is fantastic, the rest I really don't care for) 15) Rocka Rolla 14) Ram It Down 13) Point of Entry (the best of the shit albums, Heading Out to the Highway and Desert Plains are great songs, the rest range from decent to mediocre) 12) Angel of Retribution (a massive step up from Point of Entry, from here on out they're all killer) 11) Turbo 10) Killing Machine 9) Sad Wings of Destiny 8) British Steel 7) Redeemer of Souls 6) Sin After Sin 5) Stained Class 4) Firepower (god what a fucking incredible album this is, I remember being astonished at the sheer quality of this when it came out, and for me it's only gotten better. Just maybe a couple of tracks short of being a masterpiece) 3) Screaming For Vengeance 2) Defenders of the Faith 1) Painkiller (a perfect album, and the title track, for me, is the definitive heavy metal song. Easily in my top 10 favourite albums of all time)
Necrotic Nick- I had 6 in contention for the number 1 spot so I get it. This was tougher than I thought it would be but it was also a ton of fun going through these albums and ranking them. This might have been the first band that I associated the term "heavy metal" with as a kid. I haven't seen them since Ozzfest 2004 so I might have to catch them on their arena tour next year. Solid list here too, man!
Love Judas Priest a lot. I had a near impossible time choosing my favorite out of the top 5. 18 Nostradamus 17 Demolition 16 Rocka Rolla 15 Angel of Retribution 14 Point of Entry 13 Ram it Down 12 Redeemer of Souls 11 British Steel 10 Jugulator 9 Turbo 8 Sad Wings of Destiny 7 Defenders of the Faith 6 Hell Bent for Leather 5 Firepower 4 Sin After Sin 3 Screaming for Vengeance 2 Stained Class 1 Painkiller
I was officially a metalhead when I heard Green Manalishi on the radio late at night when I was in Jr High. That was the sound I was looking for in my life at the time. Really enjoyed everyone’s picks and have to say Nicks picks are closest to mine. Stained glass is my favorite as well and great to see others think the same. I saw them live on their Screaming for Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith tours in high school and they were amazing. Took both my adult kids to the Fire power tours and warmed my heart to see Glen come on stage. I think I threw up in my mouth when I heard Turbo lover after purchasing and listening for the first time…. Unleashed in the East has to be the greatest live album of all time. Great job guys!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I think I officially "evolved" into a metalhead much later but this band is up there on the list of the earliest music memories I made so I feel like they've always been with me. Initially I was more into the 80's stuff but as I got older the 70's stuff really speaks to me more now. Screaming for Vengeance will always be a favorite though. Yeah, Turbo still does almost not for me but I think it's more redeemable than Demolition or Nostradamus at least.
My top 5 1: Defenders of the Faith. This is the album that really got me into JP; I've always known who they are and I heard Breaking the Law and Living After Midnight numerous times on the radio, but this was the album that made me want to dive into more of their discography. The Sentinel and Some Heads Are Gonna Roll (to name a select couple) are fucking fantastic, it just oozes 80s metal (without getting into cheesy glam shit). Yeah the ending is kinda disappointing, but I can look past that because everything else on this album is perfect for me. 2: Painkiller. Goddamn this album is just balls to the wall amazing. The title track literally encapsulates everything I love about this band, and Scott Travis' drumming really allows JP to push into a heavier direction, and they slayed at it. Leather Rebel also has incredible riffs, and Night Crawler has a dark, creepy vibe that I dig. Everybody is on fire on this album. 3: Screaming for Vengeance. Interestingly, I wasn't actually the biggest fan of this album until I heard Electric Eye and Bloodstone, but those tracks made me open up to this album. Since then, I have continuously come back to this album and every so often I will be the humming the riff to songs like the title track and Take These Chains. My biggest complaint is, THEY SHOULD'VE MADE THE HELLION A PROPER SONG! 4: Stained Class. My favorite 70's Priest album, and its influence is undeniable. Exciter is such a fantastic song and so heavy for its time period, and Beyond the Realms of Death is such a dark and beautiful ballad. And the cover of Better By You, Better Than Me is fantastic. This album has aged like a fine wine. 5: British Steel. It might be overplayed and slightly overrated but I believe that this album is the ultimate example of how to perfectly combine heaviness and commercialization. Grinder has such a catchy riff that gets stuck in my head all the time, same with Rapid Fire. Lastly, United might be rotten cheese but at least it matches the album's heaviness, so it's got going for it. Honorable mention: Angel of Retribution. This album is a great comeback album (especially coming off from Demolition), and I fell in love with it soon after listening to Judas Rising, which is probably my favorite Priest song from their modern albums. Hellrider is up there as well, and Revolution is a great throwback song that reminds me of 70's rock, like Led Zeppelin. The production is perfect, the songs overall are timeless, and the cherry on top is the album cover; it's simple but elegant.
Another awesome and funny show! I started getting into music a little more seriously, as a listener when I was about 12 or 13, around 1977. KISS was the first band to catch my eye and ear, on Alive I, but there were a few others like Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep and of course Judas Priest! The first album I heard and bought was Sad Wings Of Destiny and wow, what an album... Have been a Priest fan eversince, and although I have listened to tons of different bands and music genres over the years and love lotes of other bands and artists as well, Metal has always been and with each passing year, my fave genre, taking up about 95% of my listening and buying. I was a huge KISS fan for many years following, but slowly as I discovered more and more bands and and sub-genres within Metal, I eventually gave up on KISS (still appreciate and love their early stuff), but Priest has always an will always be there as one of my fave bands of all time! Yes, like any band or artist with 50 year plus career, it's perfectly understandable that there will be highs and lows. Many line up changes but the essential is still there! Loved what Scott Travis came to add to the band. Was sad to see Rob leave, but furtunately he came back to his frontman position which is his by merit! Then KK left, but in came a young gun, Richie Faulkner and gave the band a real kick in the ass, that the band was so desperatly needing. I really have not had the time to sit down and rank there albums but here are a few of my faves in cronological order: Sad Wings Of Destiny Stained Class Screaming For Vengence Painkiller Firepower Thanks for the great show and keep up the great work! Keep it Metal 🤘🤘🤘
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We appreciate that! These guys definitely bridged that gap between classic rock and what would become heavy metal. I was never much of a Kiss fan but I love Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy which were definitely proto-metal in away. This was a lot of fun to rank especially given the impact this band has had on music in general when you break it down. Anyway, I'm glad you dug the ranking! We had a blast doing this one.
You are most welcome Nick!@@thrallsofmetal I've always loved and had music around, unfortunately life aint always fair and one has to survive... Had a local radio show for around 13 years in the 90s, but all comes to an end. This band is most important in kickstarting what we all know now as Heavy Metal, not to mention that they are still most relevant! Nick & Company, keep up the awesome and fun shows! Stay safe and Keep it Metal 🖤🤘🖤
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Glad you dug the video. We've got The Black Dahlia Murder and Meshuggah on deck before we do some more picks. We might wait until Deicide drops that new album to rank them though.
My Top 5 1) Screaming For Vengeance 2) Sad Wings 3) British Steel 4) Stained Class 5) Painkiller -- honorable mention to Firepower, simply for the fact that Priest would put out such an amazing album this deep into their career. They sound more inspired than they had in years.---
One of the most extensive, exciting and the best catalogue in metal history. So hard to rank! Back in the 70's no one could even touch Judas Priest regarding the level of heaviness (maybe Motörhead) and speed - the best album is for me Killing Machine. This album incorporated the 80's sound and production despite being released in the 70's. Fabulous one! Packed to the brim with superb songs. Their best 80's album is for me Defenders of the Faith - Riffmasters, melody makers, speed demons producing controversial Eat me Alive (Ranked No. 3 on TOP 15 Filthy list), vampiric stomper Love Bites and instrumentally and vocally victorious masterpiece Sentinel. I skip the 90's and go straight to the 2000's - maligned fabulous Nostradamus where JP guys spread their wings and flew away in the sun. Loved the fact guys tried something new and unusual. Hope Invincible Shield direction is the same. Their 2010's era is bestially ruled by Firepower (one of the 5 best metal albums of that era for me). This album (especially Spectre did it to me) restored my faith in music industry by far. Album cover art is fantastic imho (even tho I did not like it that much at first sight), Ian's bass shines so much on this alb and Halfords vocals are unbelievable).......
Necrotic Nick- This was kinda tough to rank. While I'd say they had some pitfalls in their discography when they were on they were writing some of the best stuff classic heavy metal has to offer still. I like Hellbent for Leather but I thought they refined that new direction more on British Steel. It was a solid transitional album into the next phase of their sound though for sure. I think Firepower will be a tough act to follow but judging by the singles it seems like their up for it. I'm looking forward to going over that one at some point.
ahh after month of wait .finally the metal god band is arrived. congratz for the rank not so much pump up for the next rank but will wait for more heavy, thrash or death metal rank after this. hopefully for kreator/ deicide / voivod / dismember / saxon / raven or others kick ass band!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, it took a bit longer than I thought and the scheduling issues were definitely a hurdle to get past but I glad we got it done. After The Black Dahlia Murder and Meshuggah we'll have another batch go through and I'm sure we'll have some variety in there.
Absolutely love judas priest, grew up listening to priest with my dad. Britist steel is my favorite album simply because living after midnight and breaking the law are on it. Also i feel like many people forget that Pat Lachman (yes the singer from damageplan) was a guitarist for rob halford in his solo band.
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, this band goes all the way back to my childhood so this was a fun nostalgic trip for me. British Steel is a definite banger (outside of United) and I think Shred brought up Patrick Lachman playing in Halford's band in our Damageplan retro review but I didn't know that until just before they shot that one.
I'd love to know your opinions on ripper when he was in Iced Earth, personally i love ripper's vocals in Iced Earth. that'd also be a very interesting discography to do!
I'm gonna hold off on listing my ranking until Invincible Shield drops in March! Also, Rob Halford is on country icon Dolly Parton's new star-studded rock album that drops this Friday. Halford and Dolly sing together on the song "Bygones", which features both Nikki Sixx and John 5 from Motley Crue!
@@thrallsofmetal thats fair. I think for me the memories of redeemer really give it a shine. I do love firepower just not as much as redeemer. But in the end they're both killer as fuck.
Necrotic Nick- I like Killing Machine/ Hellbent for Leather but it kinda fell for me. Yeah, I was kinda surprised by some my compatriots rankings on this one but it definitely made for some interesting discussion.
Run of the Mill is one of the greatest songs ever; their first epic IMO. 70's Priest (first 4, I consider Killing Machine/Hell bent to be the first 80's era Priest album) are my favourites tied with Painkiller then Defenders, Screaming, British Steel, Killing, etc
My top five would be 1. Stained Class: classy af, really melodic, has a deep and exquisite sound and honestly, better lyrics than their later works 2. Painkiller: all killer, no filler, power and speed, tons of epic lead guitar works, Halford sounds like crazy, just very good in every single way 3. Sad wings of destiny: like stained class but a bit more bluesy, I like 70s priest a lot 4. Defenders of the faith: their best 80s albums, many great solos and the production is awesome, I love the guitar tone quite a bit 5. Sin after sin: has a few dead tracks but also some of their absolute bests like Sinner and Starbreaker

One thing has to be noticed about "Screaming for Vengeance". The awesome ballad "Prisoner of your eyes" wasn't in the original album, and in fact comes from... the Turbo sessions!

Don't be so harsh on yourself bro. Its called maturing. People simply change their minds as the grow up and its good so. When I was an young dude I loved Iron Maiden but as time went by I got bored as fcuk with Maiden's recent outputs and converted to JP. It has been 12 long years haha. Peace
Sort of like Motorhead, with any band that has such a large discography I like to divide their career into about 3 phases. The early, mid, and later period sounds. I think Stained Class is damn hard to beat for the 70s almost-prog heavy metal sound like you all said. Screaming or Defenders is likewise the peak of their mid-period "80s" sound. For me, once you hit Painkiller...how do you ever follow that?! There's great songs on Angel of Retribution and the albums beyond, but once you hit the peak of speed, heaviness, and songwriting that is Painkiller, it's like a double-edged sword. It towers and overshadows everything that came after.
Necrotic Nick- Agreed. Priest has been around long enough to see the musical landscape shift multiple times and have been part of the reason it shifted in some cases. I personally love the 70's stuff. The songwriting is possible at it's best in my opinion with how lavish the songs can be but I also love most of the 80's stuff since I'm a child of the 80's. They haven't beat Painkiller in my mind since it's release but Firepower came really close. I have high hopes for the new one as well.
RAM IT DOWN is gravely underrated imo!! Halfords voice is glass on that album.
Necrotic Nick- It's got its moments but it's also got it's issues in my book. I love the title track though. That song rules.
67 and just began listening to judas priest. great band, recently purchased painkiller and ram it down. metallica fan.
Sad Wings and Stained Class really defined that Heavy Metal sound for future generations to come.
Necrotic Nick- 100% agree here, man!
Between the hammer and the Anvil is my favorite solo of all time how Tipton turns that note into a harmonic without retouching the string is insane. And that's coming from a maiden fan
First part until 2.50 is from K.K. and after 2.50 when it goes harmonic it is Glenn.
Necrotic Nick- It would hard for me to pick a favorite solo on that album. They're all rippers in my opinion.
@thrallsofmetal dude, how the hammer hits the anvil like a bass drum in the build-up to the solo is all time. Those bastards knew how to create tension in their music.
Judas Priest, my favourite heavy metal band, Being ranked on Thralls of Metal!?
This will be fantastic!
Necrotic Nick- I hope you enjoyed it, man!
Love this video. Love the call back to when Tipper Gore got big mad at Prince because she brought a soundtrack to an R rated film for her too young to understand daughter. It was fun being a metal head teen back then.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I don't know how Tipper missed all the sexual energy Prince put out there for years lol.
"United, Take On The World Part 2: United Boogaloo" that's why you guys are the best. 🤘
I cracked up so hard that my dog started barking!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! I couldn't resist making that crack lol
Yep, terrible song lol
As excited as I am for this, I am scared at the same time.

Necrotic Nick- I'd say your ranking lines up more with mine. I know some of Shred's picks probably had you scratching your head lol.
One of the greatest metal bands to ever do it! So many Classics in their discography, but if i had to pick their best, id have to pick Defenders Of The Faith, for me it their most complete release, with no weak links whatsoever! Loved listening to you guys doing this discography, the best reviewers on the net imo.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, this band is flat out legendary even with the missteps. Glad you dug the video, man!
Agreed 💯 👍 Stained Class is my favorite Priest album and that is my favorite Priest lineup.🤘
I could only imagine how hard this was and how long it took to make this ranking. Great job guys!
Necrotic Nick- It was a tough one but it was also a lot of fun.
Good rankings gentlemen. I’m someone who is a Turbo defender, though admittedly it’s far from my favorite album. My ranking would be as follows:
1: Painkiller
2: Sad Wings of Destiny
3: Stained Class
4: Defenders of the Faith

15: Angel of Retribution
16: Redeemer of Souls
17: Nostradamus
18: Demolition
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, I figured out of all the more divisive albums that Turbo would have possibly more fans. Outside of like 2 tracks I just can't get into it but those 2 tracks are solid as hell.
1. Hell Bent for Leather
2. Screaming For Veganance
3. Stained Class
4. Painkiller
5. Defenders of the Faith
6. British Steel
7. Sad Wings of Destiny

Necrotic Nick- That's a solid top 5, man!
Hype, I hope one of you guys like Jugulator haha
My Uncle Buck showed me something else…
Whoa Johnny. I bled Priest for a few years back in the day. Was very very into these guys.
NWOBHM royalty
12????? What???? Sad Wings is the greatest album of all time, regardless of genre and era!!!! lol. Dammit man…8???? Yer killing me…Nick gets it!!!
Agreed on Rays of Summer. It’s like extreme porn…it doesn’t fit….
Judas Priest were my positive role models as a kid. Thanks for covering them!
Necrotic Nick- That's awesome, man. Glad you dug the video, man!
1. Screaming for Vengeance
2. Painkiller
3. Defenders of the Faith
4. British Steel
5. Stained Class
6. Hell Bent for Leather
7. Firepower

14. Point of Entry
15. Demolition
16. Rocka Rolla
17. Turbo
Necrotic Nick- I hope you dug the video, man! Yeah, Ram it Down didn't get much love on this one but it's got it's moments.
Nice!!! A Judas Priest ranking (my 3rd favorite band of all time!) on my birthday! Thanks Thralls!🤘🤘🤘
Necrotic Nick- Happy belated birthday, man! I'm glad we gave you something to enjoy on your birthday!
My favorite boys debating over albums been lovin the channel for a while now. Keep up the good content!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We appreciate all the love!
Nick, your ranking was super close to mine. I thought i might of lined up more with Shred's but not so much. Great episode guys.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Yeah, even I was a bit shocked by some of Shred's rankings but it definitely made for good conversation.
1. Defenders Of The Faith
2. Painkiller
3. Sad Wings Of Destiny (Unleashed In The East)
4. Screaming For Vengeance
5. Rocka Rolla
6. Killing Machine/Hellbent For Leather

16. Turbo
17. Nostradamus
18. Point Of Entry
Necrotic Nick- Solid ranking, man!
5. Painkiller
and 4.
The thralls have gathered once again to give us another discography ranking!!!! 😎🤘🔥☠️💯🎸🖤
Necrotic Nick- Hope you enjoyed it, man!
Here’s my top 10 (at the moment):
1. Painkiller
2. Sin After Sin
3. Sad Wings of Destiny
4. Stained Class
5. Defenders of the Faith
6. Screaming for Vengeance
7. British Steel
8. Hell Bent for Leather
9. Rocka Rolla
10. Firepower
Great video as always, looking forward to whoever you guys rank next!
Cheers 🤘🤘
Love how much detail you guys get into with this. My ranking would be different... but that's the beauty of opinions on music 🎶
The BEST rock/metal channel ever! You guys are a spark of hope in a sea full of degenerative and filler media. Keep it up!
Good ranking by you guys, my very favorite by them is Sad Wings. 🤘
And please find the time and do a ranking of both the Hypocrisy and even of Devin Townsend discography that would be fun by you to do.
One of the first classic metal bands I got into when I got tired of the nu-metal and hardcore scene. Fuckin awesome ranking dudes!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
This Rob Halford guy looks like he gets all the lady's
Necrotic Nick- Well, he probably would have lol
Either way, I'll be watching my friend.
it's nice seeing y'all ranking these albums with different perspectives on Priest.
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, I was kinda surprised how different our rankings were on this one. Definitely made for a killer discussion.
Great video as always and was happy to see this ranking Bros! It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you guys and hope you’re well…. Cheers!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Glad you dug it! This one was a lot of fun to do. We're all doing well here and I hope you are too. Take care, man!
Absolutely, we are in the middle of getting our house built and all kinds of stuff. Been pretty busy with life 😂 Always love your guys’ content! 🍻
After months of anticipation, it has finally arrived. 👍
My personal favorite jumps between Stained Class and Defenders of the Faith.
I'm hoping for the Dream Theater ranking as well! Since they love are beloved in the progressive community.
Man what a ranking! Sad I wasn't able to make it live but I should be able to catch the SADUS review live!!! fingers crossed!
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! This one was a lot of fun to go over.

Will watch tonight after work! Hopefully getting tickets for either Boston or Bangor Maine in April 🤘🏻
Necrotic Nick- I hope you dug the video, man! Yeah, I might have to go next year for that tour as well.
I'm with alot of other people on here always really look forward too album rankings I've gone back to previous ones on many other bands and watched them Multiple times. You guys always know your stuff and keep us Metal heads engaged.Always good work from you guys,Cheers.
Necrotic Nick- Hey! Thanks, man! Always appreciated. Looking forward to doing more of these in the future for sure.
@thrallsofmetal was listening to Deicide Legion today and got me thinking you guys should do a ranking of there discography
Any chance of a album ranking of overkill love hearing you guys talk about bands and albums
Overkill! Yes. That would be a tough one.
Necrotic Nick- That's definitely one I'd like to take on one of these days.
Damn, I hadn't realized you hadn't done these guys yet. So I'd been working at a tire shop when I was 10 years old. I'd heard the British Steel singles(WHJY providence, thank you), but didn't know who they were. But then Another Thing Comin came on, and I asked an older guy working there, 'Ritchie, who the hell is this?'
"That's Judas Fuckin Priest man"
And I was hooked.
My top 5:
1. Stained Class - it's perfect and really ahead of its time;
2. Screaming for Vengeance - a lot of nostalgia in here, but ten solid and memorable tracks with some killer standouts;
3. Sin After Sin - Between this and Sad Wings, I really believe the 'metal guitar sound' starts here;
4. British Steel - again, lots of nostalgia for me as a teenager, but the songs kill it;
Necrotic Nick- I don't know if Ripper "saved" Priest but he kept them going until Rob returned.
Hell yeah, I’ve been looking forward to this one! 🤘🏻
Necrotic Nick- I hope you enjoyed it!
An amazing band. Many great albums with a couple of shockers.
1. Sin After Sin
2. Screaming for Vengeance
3. Defenders of the Faith
4. Painkiller
5. Stained Class
6. Sad Wings of Destiny
7. Firepower
8. British Steel
9. Hell Bent for Leather
10. Ram it Down
11. Angel of Retribution
12. Point of Entry
13. Redeemer of Souls
14. Turbo
15. Rocka Rolla
16. Jugulator
17. Nostradamus
18. Demolition
Just watched the ranking. Absolutely killer job on this ranking. Loved it. Also thanks for taking the bullet on Nostradamus so the rest of us don’t have to 😂. Hopefully that memory won’t haunt you too long 😂
Bro so glad you are an open-minded fan, who embraces all eras of our fav band
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! We really appreciate that. Yeah, Nostradamus is still a giant dud for me though I enjoyed it more than Demolition.
I'll give the ranking a go
18) Nostradamus (yeah this is awful, I've listened to the whole thing just once and wanted to die by the end)
17) Demolition (also awful with no redeeming qualities)
16) Jugulator (Cathedral Spires is fantastic, the rest I really don't care for)
15) Rocka Rolla
14) Ram It Down
13) Point of Entry (the best of the shit albums, Heading Out to the Highway and Desert Plains are great songs, the rest range from decent to mediocre)
12) Angel of Retribution (a massive step up from Point of Entry, from here on out they're all killer)
11) Turbo
10) Killing Machine
9) Sad Wings of Destiny
8) British Steel
7) Redeemer of Souls
6) Sin After Sin
5) Stained Class
4) Firepower (god what a fucking incredible album this is, I remember being astonished at the sheer quality of this when it came out, and for me it's only gotten better. Just maybe a couple of tracks short of being a masterpiece)
3) Screaming For Vengeance
2) Defenders of the Faith
1) Painkiller (a perfect album, and the title track, for me, is the definitive heavy metal song.
18 Nostradamus
17 Demolition
16 Rocka Rolla
15 Angel of Retribution
14 Point of Entry
13 Ram it Down
12 Redeemer of Souls
11 British Steel
10 Jugulator
9 Turbo
8 Sad Wings of Destiny
7 Defenders of the Faith
6 Hell Bent for Leather
5 Firepower
4 Sin After Sin
3 Screaming for Vengeance
2 Stained Class
1 Painkiller
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, picking my number 1 on this one was tough. I had 6 albums up for that honor when I was ranking this one. Solid list though, man.
Love the songs on Defenders, can’t stand the production. File next to Ram It Down. Awesome episode boys.
My top 5
1: Defenders of the Faith.
I really have not had the time to sit down and rank there albums but here are a few of my faves in cronological order:
Sad Wings Of Destiny
Stained Class
Screaming For Vengence
Painkiller
Firepower
Thanks for the great show and keep up the great work!
Thanks for doing this guys - these rankings are very entertaining.
Deicide ranking soon maybe? Pretty please?
I've been saying they should do a deicide ranking to
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Glad you dug the video. We've got The Black Dahlia Murder and Meshuggah on deck before we do some more picks. We might wait until Deicide drops that new album to rank them though.
My Top 5
1) Screaming For Vengeance
2) Sad Wings
3) British Steel
4) Stained Class
5) Painkiller
-- honorable mention to Firepower, simply for the fact that Priest would put out such an amazing album this deep into their career. They sound more inspired than they had in years.---
Thank you for the nice video
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man! Glad you dug it!
I hope you guys do a video listing each of your personal favorite albums (top 10 or even top 25 if you're ballsy), I'm very curious
Necrotic Nick- That would be impossible because the answer would change about every 5 mins lol.
Fun fact: Reckless off of Turbo was offered to be featured on the Top Gun soundtrack, but Judas Priest turned it down😓
Just tuned in, didn't have to work today...and then this. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Necrotic Nick- Well I hope you dug the video as much we enjoyed shooting it.
I haven’t listened to their whole discography but I really love Screaming for Vengeance and Painkiller
Necrotic Nick- Those 2 are certified bangers in my book so you're off to a good start.
Great retrospective guys. Awesome stuff. Priest rules.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
I hope to see Painkiller or Jugulator as someone’s #1! Those are my favorite Priest albums.
Necrotic Nick- Well, you got Painkiller as number 1 for a couple of us... not so much on Jugulator though.
Oh I can't wait for this racking!! 🤘
I'm looking forward to going over that one at some point.
ahh after month of wait .finally the metal god band is arrived.
congratz for the rank
not so much pump up for the next rank but will wait for more heavy, thrash or death metal rank after this.
hopefully for kreator/ deicide / voivod / dismember / saxon / raven or others kick ass band!
I still crank Turbo to this day, it's a really cool 80's moment in time.
Interesting ranking gents, shredlords especially hahaha
Necrotic Nick- Yeah, he even caught me off guard with some of his takes here.
Nice! You guys should do a DISMEMBER album ranking show!
Necrotic Nick- That's one I'd really like to do in the future for sure.
I'm hellbent for...this ranking. Sad Wings is my number 1.
Necrotic Nick- I was the only one with Sad Wings in their top 5... I was a bit disappointed honestly lol.
I'd love to know your opinions on ripper when he was in Iced Earth, personally i love ripper's vocals in Iced Earth. that'd also be a very interesting discography to do!
Looking forward to this. Top 5 would be
1. Stained Class
2. Screaming For Vengeance
3. Sad Wings Of Destiny
4. Painkiller
5. Defenders Of The Faith
Necrotic Nick- Those were my exact top 5. Brilliant minds think alike I guess lol
the album art for nostradamus is so badass. the album depresses me though. Great artwork
Necrotic Nick- I thought the art was alright but I missed having the classic log on it.
Rob just did a duet with Doro covering Total Eclipse of the Heart, but I honestly didn't like it.
@@Gregbaltzer And he recorded a duet with Dolly Parton, "Bygones"!
Necrotic Nick- OK
Just started but All I can say is there last 2 albums have been masterpieces
Did not expect old farts to rock that much but it happened. Almost unreal. Nowadays I find them even better than Maiden and that's something...
Necrotic Nick- I liked Redeemer but Firepower is the best thing they've released since Painkiller. Killer album.
@@thrallsofmetal thats fair. I think for me the memories of redeemer really give it a shine. I do love firepower just not as much as redeemer. But in the end they're both killer as fuck.
Still hoping for you guys to do a 3 hour long KISS discography ranking 😁
Necrotic Nick- I am not the biggest Kiss fan honestly so that would be rough one for me.
@@thrallsofmetal Jovial Joseph likes him some KISS innit. Never too late to dig deep into their huge discography ;)
Hell yeah! My number 1 too...Stained Class!!!
Awesome video dudes as usual.
Necrotic Nick- Thanks, man!
My number one is Killing Machine.
Dude on the right actually ranked Rocka Rolla ahead of Defenders Of The Faith.
Is he feeling alright? Lol
My top five would be
1. Stained Class: classy af, really melodic, has a deep and exquisite sound and honestly, better lyrics than their later works
2. Painkiller: all killer, no filler, power and speed, tons of epic lead guitar works, Halford sounds like crazy, just very good in every single way
3. Sad wings of destiny: like stained class but a bit more bluesy, I like 70s priest a lot
4. Defenders of the faith: their best 80s albums, many great solos and the production is awesome, I love the guitar tone quite a bit
5. Sin after sin: has a few dead tracks but also some of their absolute bests like Sinner and Starbreaker
My all time favorite band
Necrotic Nick- One of my favorite heavy metal bands ever.
When it comes to these classic bands only shreds opinion matters.
Necrotic Nick- Debatable. He did have Turbo ranked about Sad Wings of Destiny on this one.
Can't wait to dive into this bad boy!

I'm safe here in my mind!!
I'm free to speak with my own kind!!!
This is my life, this is my life!!
I'll decide not you!!!”
💀 ☠️ 🪦⚰️⚱️
Necrotic Nick- Amazing song
Shreds “HEHE” at 40:32 is majestic and I want to make it my ringtone
One thing has to be noticed about "Screaming for Vengeance". The awesome ballad "Prisoner of your eyes" wasn't in the original album, and in fact comes from... the Turbo sessions!
Necrotic Nick- I legit didn't know that honestly. Well, potentially Turbo would have had 3 songs I actually liked lol.
Nostradamus is a grower. Nostradamus, Pestilence and Future of Mankind are marvelous songs.

Peace
Necrotic Nick- Hey, tastes change over time. Sometimes the stuff you thought was lame years ago you come back to and have a new appreciation for it.
For me .. best Heavy metal band ever !!!
Necrotic Nick- I mean, they're up there for me.
