Bro, I'm doing the same thing. Now thrifting on Saturday morning s and most dvds are actually not that bad.

100% agree. I was always skeptical of the streaming push and the reliance on streaming every movie, every show, every song. I didn't get rid of my DVD collection and a few times I've been vindicated in that decision. There were movies that I would suggest to my roommates we watch and they would search Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Vudu, Max, all these places and it'd be nowhere, or it would something that you can only rent and I would just say "guys I have it right here on DVD". That difference in mentality where the people who accept this streaming service as is, and the people who want the security of owning the thing they like is kind of surprising sometimes.

I think streaming services like TV stations get better deals for butchered versions of movies where the best scenes were cut out.
I never even considered streaming services. It's bad enough with Kindle books that I pay for but don't own. I watch most movies often enough so that buying them pays off.
What is still cumbersome is copy protection.
I'd prefer to rip them and play them from the NAS but it's too cumbersome (or I don't have enough time)

Yes, I hear you. I thought about ripping movies and putting them on my NAS. But if my Internet goes out, then I can't watch them. So it would be better just to put them on a hard drive. Most of all TV's nowadays have a USB port so you can watch movies from your hard drive to TV.

@@mdmdreviews6827 hard drive would work as well, but with a server it would be easier to combine multiple hard drives to a single large one, which makes it easier to utilize all space and find movies.

I think streaming services are ripping people off. Oh, you want to watch this movie, subscribe to this service. Oh, want to watch another movie? Oh, we don't have so you have to subscribe to another service.
