Taking a sound from our surroundings and turning it into music is deeply in our DNA, and sampling is just another modern expression of this ancient cultural technique.
Sampling will always be part of creating music, especially with all tools we have in the modern era to turn them into something completely different and unique. But as people mature musically, they want their publishing and that’s also a big factor in making original compositions.
The funny thing about Blurred Lines is that when I first heard it, I didn't know who sang it or produced it. I just knew that they copied the vibe of Gotta Give It Up. Then I forgot about it until the lawsuit. Once I heard the song again, I knew Pharrell and Robin would somehow take an L. Kind of sucks because so many songs have similar or even the same bassline. Keep Rising To The Top and All Night Long regarding similarities and Act Like You Know/Help Is On The Way regarding the same.
Its definitely dying because of the ridiculous lawsuits now people want to use loop packs or create there own or ai and the music of 60s-70s-80s will eventually die

If you’re making $ from music & not clearing samples then you’re just asking to be sued. Services like Tracklib & others allow you to clear samples BEFORE you release your song so stop crying that sample clearance is hard. If not then get a musician to create compositions for you. Some of these loop packs are getting better at sounding like real 70’s vibes and you don’t have to hassle with clearing it like a record. If there’s no to little profits then sample any & everything under the sun😂
