My maternal grandparents had 13 children and were very poor. My mother, one of the 13 children, would tell us stories of what Christmas was like for them. They decorated with things that they made from free nature resources and the my grandparents even made the children’s toys/gifts, like “stick dolls, rag dolls, homemade sewn doll clothes” for the girls and “wooden toy trucks, etc. for the boys. In their stockings were “fruit” like oranges and apples because that was a rarity for them through the year. All of my Aunts and Uncles were the happiest people ever, and you would have never known that they all grew up poor!
Watched again! Years of doing similar crafts with family, Girl Scouts, and Pioneer Girls ! Blessed and safe days! Also made Corn husk dolls, we asked a local farmer if we could “harvest a few cobs” we soaked the husks in a little glycerin and water, then laid out to flatten' them! I found the pattern from an old craft book, they had kerchiefs and ballon sleeves!
Very clever tips! Thank you. It is so refreshing seeing someone craft instead on relying on items from a box store. Crafting with natural items allows you to have your own unique stye.
Way back when, my Mom made the orange slice garlands, with cinnamon sticks and cloves for tree trimming. Just like her Mom and her Grandma did, in times gone by. It smelled so good! Thank you for rekindling such happy memories, here in Northeast Ohio. We ARE truly lucky to live here! The Buckeye State is definitely the "heart" of the USA! 🥰 🐑🐁🐓🦃🐾
The greatest are home made memories, passing them down, making them with others and our memories, passing them down through our families. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Much love.
Simply beautiful you don't need hobby lobby you have a beautiful forest and can pick your own greenery I live in Texas and we only have mesquite and oak nothing like real Christmas trees in your backyard what a blessing
2020 has really given us a reality check. Whatever your financial position is (and I understand this really affects low income and unemployed people more), you realize what really matters. The holidays ain’t about the stuff anymore, it’s the people you get to spend it with
I watched the video and it was so exciting to see your vision come to life. I know you are in awe of all the ways God worked with so many people who gave and worked to bring it to fruition. Wow! I'm thrilled for you and those missionaries who will rest with your loving care..Miss you so much. Sending a big hug your way
Oh I envy the people who have the creativity and talent to do this. I don’t have the tools or the patience or the time 😢 I end up spending more money buying the things needed to make the crafts than I would just going to a store and buying it. Everything is so perfect.
I so look forward to your videos. I have been struggling this year....feeling sad...sad for not seeing family....sad for not going to church. I haven’t been able to think about decorating. You have inspired me! Stay well and Happy Thanksgiving
Williamsburg has some pretty incredible fall/winter ornaments for their front doors and windows, beautifully done as well if anyone needs more ideas. You're inspiring.
Growing up we made the oranges with c!oves poked into them, salt dough ornaments, cranberry garlands, construction paper loop garlands pretty much every homemade exept for the ornaments my great grandmother passed down which I believe are glass. So many other things I know I'm forgetting but it made Christmas so much more fun as a kid.
The mantle is just lovely. It is so calming and wintry. Your project instructions are so easy to follow. I’m doing the oranges tomorrow. I have to buy the oranges first. I was at a local store recently and it was over $10 for them already dried. That’s a no go when you made it look doable. Thank you.
Oh,I wish we still had our place like this one. They did all kinds of trees in the very long lobby area. Under each tree was baskets full of ornaments who could buy. The rest of the stuff was all over in their, store. So much to look at too. So missing it over theses year's. I like the orange slices idear. I love to decorate with natural stuff. I use to at our old place outdoor . Thank you for sharing
I had a craft day yesterday with a friend and we made several of these for both of us, thanks for sharing. Fun easy and doable, I even shared with my family out of town and my sister made some too. Your home and simple decor always inspires me 🤍🤍🤍🎄
Mary you make things look like what Christmas should look and feel like. You capture the meaning of Christmas and put it into your house. Thank you for sharing this special Holiday with us. 🌿🎄🎄⛄🎄🎄🌿
Oh my! Dried oranges, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and bay leaves make a wonderful stovetop potpourri. Your decorating videos are always so inspirational and informational. Your home is warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing with us. Hope you have a safe and holiday season.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Your salt dough just came on time for a project a have on mind. Also, the idea to use the expanded foam is just genius. I always enjoy your videos so much. God bless
When you spoke of using natural things to decorate I wanted to share something I have made. Just take 5 twigs or sticks of the same diameter and length. Lay them down in a cross crossed way to make the traditional 5 line star then tie the ends with some jute. They look so pretty hanging in windows. Have a great Thanksgiving.
I was reminded of the time years ago when my then little boys and I made salt ornaments for the Christmas tree. I placed them on a cookie sheet to dry near a window and our golden retriever ate all of them thinking they were cookies. Yes, he was ok but drank a lot of water. I personally want to thank you for keeping Christ in Christmas as he should be given his Honor and Glory for his birth.
Amen Vicki and I'm not even religious, but people have forgotten what it's meant to represent. Stay safe, love your families and look out for your neighbours.
Too funny, but bet it was scary. Legendary memories, lol. One time my golden retriever ate half an expensive cherry pie, fresh from the bakery! Luckily he only ate from one side so we could have some. It was still hot, must have burned his mouth, poor baby.
Love your little kitty. He looks at you so lovely 😊. Loved all your ornaments. I love the wood rounds. My friend made me some yesterday. We had a dead tree, so took a branch off to cut them for me. Thank you and look forward to your home tour! 🎄❤️🎄
Mary just beautiful I love the natural theme so in tune with the season . Jesus was born in a stable that's pretty natural. If we could just remember what Christmas is really about especially this year so much turmoil. "My heart will trust in the Lord." Thank You Mary I was having some negative feelings I feel better now. Blessing H. Thanksgiving to you and your family.
🍁Happy Thanksgiving Mary and Family! 🐿 You are so creative and such an inspiration Mary, I just love the way the decorations turned out and how you displayed them. I love how affectionate you and Pebbles are with each other too. Your cats always add an extra element of reality and warmth in your videos.🐈💝🐈
Thank you so much showing how to make dried oranges. I tried one time long ago and now I know i didnt leave them in oven long enough. FYI ....acetone fingernail polish takes Great stuff right off hands. Wash hands throughly and moisturizer afterwards. Fun to learn from each other! 😊 Have a Happy Blessed Holiday
Oh Mary, how adorable your little trees turned out. May you and your family have the best thanksgiving. We all certainly have a lot to thank our good lord for!
@@carladurland5194 lol I thought the same thing. Everyone is commenting on how all these are natural and don’t come from the store but most of the items come from a store...I love them all but not natural
Could totally do these without visiting a store. RIP up ole strips of fabric instead of purchasing yarn.stuff trees with dryer lint or scrunched up paper. Instead of paint use food coloring in Christmas colors for dough. Use old buttons instead of purchased ornaments on trees. Use twig stars. Use your imagination. She is using up old foam product, so not really that bad, better than landfill. Use a bread wrapper or baggie when you are out of rubber gloves for working with messy foam, etc. Or lubrication on hands with lotion, petroleum jelly, etc. I try to do so before painting or gardening. Give yourself several minutes to let it absorb. TFS.
Mary, Thank you for sharing such beautiful ideas. I have thousands of pine cones. We have 3 acres with many pine trees!! I have never made such adorable little trees. Thank you.
You are amazing! You think of things like no one else. Love, love, love, the yarn trees. I can only dream. The simplest craft is beyond me. Happy Holidays! 🎄🎄
So beautiful! I especially like the little spruce twig trees and the little pinecone trees. Thank you for so many good ideas-I’m going to go make the orange slices. 🍊
Oh, yeah, those salt dough ornaments! One year my sis n I made some circles, elongated them by more rolling, made heads, ears, eyeballs...and made CAT ornaments! Some came out a bit browned around the edges...Siamese kitties~!. We had fun painting the eyeballs turquois on the ;Siamese' ones. Looked amazing.
I love the yarn & pearl trees!!! Really beautiful on mantel! Thank you for taking the time to make & share your video with these nice natural Christmas decorations!! And Happy Thanksgiving to you also!
I love using dried oranges and apples to string around at the holidays. One thing i discovered the first time I made them, is if you don't seal them, they will suck up any moisture in the house and get soggy and gross. Seal them with mod podge or some kind of sealer to keep that from happening!
Linda, every time you make a new video, I make sure I have a comfy chair and time to sit down and enjoy. You are truly an inspiration, we live in a New England Colonial home, and we just love it. I decorate in Colonial/primitive style. You have great ideas!! Thank you!
Oh I love the yarn and pearl trees! You can take oranges, stud with cloves, any pattern, wrap in netting etc. tie with a ribbon and done. My 42 year old son made one in his 6th grade class and it still makes my hutch smell wonderful inside. It just slowly dries up, the orange. Love your channel.
I am glad that you decided to say, "Let us adore Him." Since He is the reason for the season. Good for you!
"O come let us adore Him" THAT's what it's ALL about. Thank you! You are the first decorator who made reference to what CHRISTMAS is ALL ABOUT.
I love how the kitty took advantage of the lap opportunity. Blessings.
Ooooa
Beautiful mantel ❤️

Your kitty is always the perfect little assistant.
Gorgeous cat can hear him purring 😻
I love the white winter Christmas tree scene. So peaceful.

Now cinnamon sticks are so expensive.

So very you! I love the way you care for your family, home and pets. That fur baby is beautiful!
The greatest are home made memories, passing them down, making them with others and our memories, passing them down through our families. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. Much love.
I love the Alberta Spruce sprig trees! They remind me of mini Charlie Brown Christmas trees. 🌲 😊
Simply beautiful you don't need hobby lobby you have a beautiful forest and can pick your own greenery I live in Texas and we only have mesquite and oak nothing like real Christmas trees in your backyard what a blessing
I feel like 2020 is the year for sweet homemade decor
At a fraction of the price., for everyone around the world times are financially hard. Stay safe. Xx

The trees are wonderful - love the white ones. Great ideas, Mary. God has truly blessed you with a gift. Thank you for sharing.

Pebbles always loves to be in his momma's lap-so cute!
Beautiful! I love how everything turned out...so refreshing, simplified, peaceful. Love it when precious Pebbles joins you!
Yes, loved seeing Pebbles snuggle on your lap.😻

Everything is beautiful. I especially love the oranges.
You are one gifted lady. You bring joy to many people during these challenging days🌞
When my son and his wife made these and they incorporated cinnamon. The ornaments smelled terrific.
I truly enjoyed these simple yet high end look diy. I will definitely make some. Thank you!!!
Mary, these are simple but beautiful decor. They say Christmas in the best possible way. Thank you for sharing.
Love the simplicity of your DIYs for a high end quality ❤️😍⛄️💓❄️🌲💕💜
I love your rustic style. So nostalgic and modern at the same time.

That's funny when you said you used the straw from the spay can for a different project, I can relate.

Would you oven dry the cranberries too?
Very nice. So calm and restful. Love all the things you made without spending a lot of money on all the frills. God bless.

The salt dough ornaments with vinyl letters is adorable.
Little trees are darling! Everything looks great!

I made several of those last Christmas. Added some berries and small bits of greenery. Turned out nicely.
Adorable simple and very natural! Love this
I could watch you craft all day, never bored
I love all this but especially the yarn trees. Beautiful!
Great old time crafts, updated to fit a new minimal outlook! Blessed and safe days!

Understated yet elegant! So beautiful! I love what you've done! Thank you for sharing! ♥️

Me too! 👋
Wow I could almost smell those orange slices. Everything is beautiful.
You are so creative! Love all that to do! Thanks for sharing! 🌲
I loved the foam filled Christmas trees! If it wasn't the week before CHRISTMAS I would make some. I hope I remember next year!
Can’t wait to try the white yarn trees! Love the simplicity of them!
What a great idea to add the foam into the trees. Those trees are beautiful, all of them, but I especially love the white ones.
Everything looks awesome, especially the kitty😻

You are a treasure and a blessing here on RUclips 😊
Girl! No one pulls of an all white home better than you!
Beautiful projects: so simple, natural, and appealing!
These are not natural... styrofoam is one of the worst products for the environment 🤔🤔🤔
You are going to get a visit from the ghost of Christmas Past if you're not careful!!!
