Sadly this is a very common perspective amongst those who lack understanding of what the Gospel and the history of humanity told in the Bible really is. It is very telling of the depth of our dilemma that a man in his position has so little understanding of basic biblical Christianity. Oh Trump, you kill me. Clips like this just remind me that we, for whatever reason, never seem to elect great thinkers to office anymore. Not to say that Trump is unintelligent. He’s probably more knowledgeable about certain things than Doug. And of course, his disposition is possibly more suited to the role of commander in chief. But Doug is undoubtedly wiser, and generally a more intelligent man. Not to mention, his grasp on morality and understanding of Christianity. I would sure sleep more soundly knowing that men of Doug’s caliber were actually running things.
The people tend toward what they can relate to. The question is, will they relate more with a glorified prostitute who can't communicate, or an old guy who who doesn't seem grasp even basic concepts like what the gospel is.

It is common to step back from direct evangelism when conducting a formal interview, or being formal in general in business affairs. Trump surely deals with a wide range of people. Some may be quite close to Jesus, while others may be completely lost. His motive in an interview is going to be on line with his profession or cultural identity. I’ve heard him give a clearly articulated Christmas message which praised and thank “our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.” His goal is probably to get elected where he is able to advance the cause of Christ using his political position. Or, you could say he’s all hot air.
Donald Trump is a civil leader...to expect bibical answers and holding him the the expectations of a judea-christian religious leader based on this interview is not really practical...he is obviously careful in selecting his words so as not to offend one religion or favor another...we as believers in Christ need to stop looking with expectation to civil leaders as moral leaders... that is our role
