I've worked with special needs kids my whole life. So many parents cry at their kids IEP meetings. They say, "The doctors told us he'd be a vegetable". "The doctor said he'd never tell time. " "Put him in an institution and never think of him again." Don't do it! A lot of us have kids who are challenged and yes, it's hard. But don't believe the worst thing you hear. It's a beautiful journey
What an inspirational story and a tribute to the loving relationship between a Mom and son and all that cross his path! Thank you for sharing your story!
Zachary and his mom are both inspirations! It took a lot of courage for mom to push him out of the nest and make him go be on his own. But look at how amazing and fulfilled his life has become. He was a job, classes, responsibilities, and a sense of purpose that we all need. We should all go around with a positive can-do attitude like Zachary has, and be thankful that the world has changed for people with disabilities.
Zachary, what an incredible documentary! Thank you for sharing your amazing story. I have multiple disabilities and live alone with some help. Seeing your story has given me much hope. I wish you every happiness in the future x 😊😊😊😊
Zachary is a tribute to you Mum and to himself. Please tell him from me that I had so much happiness watching him in this video as he proves to everyone that he can do anything he sets out to do in life. Zachary, you're such a smart, kind, determined young man. Also very handsome... Lots of love to you and your Mum ❤❤❤xxx
WOW❤ This makes me so sad for all people in the past(as recently as 80's and 70's and way back) who had Down and who were just not expected to understand much or to do much, how little effort was done to help them grow into independent lives. I guess we just didn't understand much about Down back then. RUclips has done so much good for people with Down; we now know so much more about them, than we knew before people started to post videos like this one! If anyone I know is expecting a baby with Down; THIS is the video I would ask them, demand them, to watch!! Much love from Finland🇫🇮
This is exactly what I was hoping for in this video. I thank you for the thoughtful comment and hope this can give another family a vision for something better for their children. I'm so extremely proud of my son!
Congratulations 🎉 You’ve done a great job ❤ Also after watching this video. I am looking forward to moving out sometime next year. I’m 36 years old with a mild case of Di George syndrome, and an anxiety disorder. I’m planning to move out with the help from Regional Center and their care takers
Thank you for watching! So glad you have some exciting plans!! It's good to know you have help to make sure you have all the right supports. Wishing you much success! ♥️
His parents are close by. We know he's a lot more independent now than anyone imagined and we'll cross that next bridge as a family when we get there. Thank you for watching! 😊
I was wondering how this guy "lived on his own". Of course, he has a roommate, thank goodness. Most people, like everyone, stays home after they turn 18, except this guy, oh, and me.
Yeah. He doesnt live alone. He just doesnt live with his parent. He is doing great. But he is in unofficial supported accommodation. His friend is just doing it for free.
Just curious, disability or not. Sixteen is a very young age to ask them to move out and be on their own, is it not? I was still living at home when I was in University.
Yes 16 is too young. He and his roommate moved in together when they were 18 and starting their post-secondary schooling. They live close by, but in their own place. Thank you for watching and commenting. 😊
Mom you've done a wonderful job, Zachary is living his best life and will continue to do great things!
