Amazing, I’m Brazilian, and I’ve been studying English for about a year, your video gives me more motivation to practice my English, my voice also changes when I speak English, here in Brazil we also have the same problems, or say you don’t sound natural or that you don’t sound like a native because they notice the Brazilian accent.... fluency is not to speak as Americans, British, Autralians, New Zealanders, etc... fluency is to communicate and be understood in what you want to communicate. Congratulations.
I've been studying for 9 months and my English level is B2 now. But wasn't easy I like studying everyday. My method is to watch as much as I could in English. My target now is the speaking.
Exactly. Some always have to see everything as a way to promote their views and judge/underestimate to no end, just to cover/feed/express their own insecurities, complexes, etc. Fortunately, in this case it's that simple, languages exist so that we communicate. Even if one isn't perfect in every way, the point is to be understood. Whoever doesn't understand much of the basics in life, will (pretend to) have a hard time understanding even that tho... and continue finding and inventing excuses to look down on others. Well, nowadays, I could speak in a language they understand alright xD ...but it's not worth it, just expose the haters and move on. Hi from Greece, lol. As I've been saying, likely the next Ukraine... Why do fools always win, maybe we should tackle that some day. The internet has played a role and maybe it's too late but it's probably time to use it to undo some of the damage that's been done, and indirectly, this is what's happening here and I'm glad I clicked on this.
I am italian and a very shy Person. I've become passionate studying english at school and because I love american culture as a sociologist. I feel more myself when I speak english and less shy I don't know why. I also feel I'm an intermediate english speaker and not mother tongue as an italian in my language. So I guess it's true, learning something different changes you in the process.
Congratulations on addressing the topic. Very relevant and motivating. Sometimes we need to think about these things, beyond just studying. Greetings from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
You're absolutely right! It takes years to fully become fluent. But it is a very rewarding experience. Now I'm going for french to immerse in the "European culture". I am Mexican and live in Mexico but visited many times the US. Finally, I really love your accent! Congratulations!
Having been born in australia by italian parents, obviously learning both italian and english as native languages, and later when i was 12 ,having moved to italy when my parents moved back ....i can absolutely confirm what you say .. The language you speak also influences your personality in many ways ...differring from shy to the extrovert and expansive in the blink of an eye and also in many other aspects
Hi teacher! I'm also Ukrainian but I have lived in Argentina since I was 7 years old. So, I'm fluent in Spanish, I can understand well and talk in Russian with some difficulties despite it being my native language, and I'm trying to get more fluent in English. I agree that people can sound and act very differently when they talk in different languages. For instance, my friends tell me all the time that I sound different when I speak Russian compared to when I speak in Spanish.
This is an excellent discussion about speaking a second (or third) language. My second language is Brazilian Portuguese. One starts out with a child’s primer vocabulary, despite having a college education. It takes a long time to go from conversational to having a technical discussion. My third language is European Portuguese. Yep, while I can read Portuguese, it has taken me a long time to understand the European accent (I still have trouble with it, especially the northern Portuguese accents). I know it’s the same language (mostly, there are words and phrases that are different from the Brazilian), but it sounds SO different. I feel and communicate differently when I’m visiting Portugal versus visiting Brazil. I would also add ‘code shifting’ as part of learning a language as well as when using your native language. My use of English differs depending upon who I am with, their level of education/wealth, and where I am. I speak English differently when I’m in a tech conference in California versus on the street in New York versus visiting friends and family in New Mexico. Thank you for a thoughtful discussion.
You hit the nail on the head, I agree with you 100 percent, this is something not one is talking about: culture, immersion, and changing perspectives, due to acquired a new language.
Yes I’ve always thought that, there’s a personality hidden that comes to the surface when you start to speak the language. It’s an awesome psychological phenomenon. Thanks for pointing this out!
Thank you very much teacher, you are helping me a lot with my listening comprehension in English. I'm Brazilian and I want to achieve fluency in English. Take care😃
Yes! That’s the mindset to dive into any language. Who cares if you are American, Ukrainian or whatever? It’s just an invisible line that we call border and makes a lot of troubles. We are all human beings! Be yourself. Good job 🎉
As a part-time online English tutor, i always share your videos with many of my students especially my Ukrainian students. I think they can find inspiration in their English fluency journey through your experience.
"Learning English has taught me aspects of my personality that I needed to correct. It went from being a personal goal to a tool that has served as a mirror, showing me that I needed to learn to be more humble, learn how to learn, and understand my own learning style, among other things. Excellent video you’ve made."
People who say you are pretending have absolutely no clue. Any native speaker will tell you that you have undergone an amazing transformation within 5 years since you started posting. Living for years in the Midwest, I can tell that you are close to Chicago or Michigan because you use similar melodic patterns and inflection from that region, yet you have been living there for only 2-3 years. I think, that you are an embodiment of grit and perseverance, and I show you to all of my students. Please, don't get into exchanges with haters because what they're saying absolutely makes no sense.
I'm in point that this Lady describe. I'm not English speaker yet, and not Polish speaker anymore. I taught my brian how to think in English and that help me a ton, but I'm still a far away from fluent speaking. Thank you for great video, and sorry if my English was not good enough.
My teacher used to give me that advice! Iam spanish speaking and I used make lots of mistakes cauce I will translate in Spanish and I was wrong I needed to think in English wrather! Since then Iam so a little bettee
"I agree with your point of view: we can immerse ourselves in the language and embrace it until we become like native speakers without having to let go of our values and identities.
I agree with you Teacher, the attitude of learning a language in this video. Yes, if we want to learn a language, we certainly do want to talk, at least sometimes, like the English-speaking people. Thanks.
Out of the blue! I was looking forward to hearing someone talking on this subject for quite long a time! I totally agree with you when you mention the personality and attitude changes one can notice in a person speaking another language! A North American friend of mine said that to me long ago. Thanks for showing up on my suggestion list! :D
I am a native American English speaker, but I experienced this when I was learning Spanish. When I got much better with the language, I had to change my humor and attitude in order to fit in. The better I got at the language, the more I felt that I didn't fit in, and I think that people viewed me as a poser.
the good thing is learning an another language makes you smarter. On the other hand, one of the languages in your head always tend to prevail.. you can even start to forget your native language
Hi. After watching this video I can say that I understood about 98% of your speech. What do you think about it? Am I in a good level? I have noticed that I have improved a lot watching to your videos in the last weeks. Thank you so much.
Thanks, Anna! I knew about voice changing when speaking another language, but I didn't realize that changing personalities was a common experience. I also feel more confident expressing my feelings in English. Plus, there are topics I've mostly learned about in English, so it's easier to discuss them in English too. It's really interesting how we can discover new things about ourselves this way. Thanks for letting us know we're not alone in feeling like a different person when speaking a second language!
We can find something new in ourselves due to learning the language too. I have found a better ability to speak in my first language. Thanks 👍and greetings from Poland
Particulary I think this is awesome. Enable us to pass the right message when we are speaking to a native language. I've notice in english for example, there is a certain way to say something, with unique tonality, expression and everything. You have to learn how american express their words with emotions interchangeably to give the right message and intention behind it.
Hi Anna this video really resonated with me. It makes me motivate to learn English with positive mindset. Hope for your health and good teaching on wards.😊
You're a wonderful person! Thanks to your videos I'm constantly improving my English. I don't know if my writing is correct but that's what I feel when I listen to your lessons! Many thanks for your significant work!

OMG, that's amazing by the way you are saying this because it's very true, let explain: I was in local language one of languages speaking in my country, when I started school and learned French language because it's the first international language teach in my country, I can speak my local language but if I start speaking French it's sound like I was born in France but not all, just because I love speaking French fluently 😅 so like you are saying in this learning English fluently video is the best way. I could say that I'm in the middle area where I don't belong to either cultures and here is where I started backing up to my culture because I hated it in the first place and English kind of gave me the escape of reality as well as dominating all thoughts that I needed to perform in my native language and as a consequence got isolated because of the lack of the verbal expression ( lost friends, never enjoyed my culture etc) so I got back. I hope no one does the same and wish you all a better experience with English
Oh, are you from Ukraine? Incredible! What an amazing pronunciation! До речі, в мене є знайома в Києві, на вас схожа - і рисами обличча, і тембром голосу - тепер я думаю, що ви можете бути дво- чи троюрідними сестрами.
That's true. I have a totally different personality speaking in Portuguese and Spanish. Looking forward to getting to know my personality speaking English. Thanks for the video.
I have known people who were bilingual in the same languages. When they get really talking between themselves, they will mix the two languages and use whichever has the better way to express and/or explain what they are talking about, to the other.
Well observed, Dear “Ma’am”! You’ve just proved that immersion in another culture doesn’t mean lack of backgrounds, feelings and moments! This is why I became one of your (many and so on…) subscribers! Ohh, I’m trying to get (even a little of) Russian language knowledge. The alphabet is (a bit of) easy to learn, since I’m Brazilian and got some phoneme’s that share the pronunciation. As for vocabularies… one day I hope to be more comfortable with! 🤭🇧🇷💐
Being myself a Ukrainian I must say you did a fabulous job on developing an amazing standard American accent. I know for sure how challenging it is. I received my training in Oxford British English, which means I tend to skip R after vowels at least in 50% of my speech and I mostly don’t flap Ts. Americans can definitely spot an accent even after 10 years living in the US, even though they cannot figure out which one exactly I have. Yours sounds like if you have grown up here in the US. It’s very robust and consistent.
I genuinely feel like I can express equally in English or Spanish but it's true that certain ideas form in my brain primarily in one language rather than the other
The language if spoken properly is just more direct. Also, when enough vocabulary is learned (academic level), the language and conversation is very enriching.
Teacher anna as well as I saw many messages that how can people adopt with any languages I felt like not everything in this world can happen over night 🌃 anything it takes time and too much time to achieve so keep it up good job for me miss I everyday trying mimic english speakers in order to become one of them
Can’t think of a better way to put it, I’m myself Ukrainian and I been told the same thing that something is off with me, and as soon as I started to get that a lot I realised that this is a shift or like you said a personality change, it is really mentally demanding to keep on being bilingual cause you have to involve sincere emotions all the time, I might as well faking it every now and then, I’m sure everyone does. Anyway this was very insightful, love being a part of this journey and a member of your channel, greetings from Ivano-Frankivs’k:)
Good evening my beautiful teacher 😊. i love your all videos and the way you explain and teach is fantastic and excellent. i am trying to speak like you but it might take time and i thought in beginning that you are American because i love your parlance. thank you so very much 😊
Well speaking another language not only can change your personality, it could also cause some curious behaviors as being completely fluent in English although you're a stutter in your native language. BTW I love your videos. Best regards from Venezuela.
I so agree!I love how easy to me to be more open and lovely using English.the way I talk and the ways I show my feelings and emotions to friends and close people are so..free and simple, easier, and I think it’s beautiful,I love it!it also positively impact how I express myself on Ukrainian^^i also like how tone and voice are changing, its so interesting and cool!^^ I love your videos, thank you!^^
Hi Hanna, lovely to hear from you. I'm Paolo from Italy. Well, first I don't understand why people criticize you instead of expressing admiration for the huge work you have done, then I can tell you that speaking English has not only changed my personality and my mindset but has completely transformed my life, because I live in English. My girlfriend is British and my new family is English as well. I've embraced their culture and lifestyle with an open mind and Im happier now than I was a few years ago, and I'll never come back to because I feel more free and more me. Can you see what I mean? I don't care what other people think because my life has to fit me and not anyone else. I'm sure you perfectly know that the world doesn't end where you live, it's much bigger than that. Anyway, thanks for the immense support during my English journey and I hope to hear from you soon. Paolo.
This lady is brilliant. One of the values of being multilingual is that it teaches your brain to see things from different perspectives.
Her pronunciation is perfect
She has a slight eastern European accent, but she is good.
@@Cernunn0s90She's from Ukraine, so, yeah
I didn't notice it but I'm not native to english.

Most definitely, since I became english fluent I tend to confuse time and space, and have thoughts about conquering the world...
Visualization is the first step to achieving the aims 😉
You're awesome ! I love your accent and the way you speak. Don't let negative comments get into you.

Greetings from cuba you are awesome and good teacher
I liked your approach to immerse yourself in english culture and language
Hi Anna this video really resonated with me.
It makes me motivate to learn English with positive mindset.
Hope for your health and good teaching on wards.😊
I felt the same way !
Thank you, I do feel a difference when speaking in Spanish vs speaking in English.
It is exactly an Accurate explanation for my current Status. Thanks for Helping me resolve my confusion
Learned English at school and I always felt more open and easygoing when speaking English. And shy and reserved in Russian. I don’t know why.
You're a wonderful person! Thanks to your videos I'm constantly improving my English. I don't know if my writing is correct but that's what I feel when I listen to your lessons! Many thanks for your significant work!
Thank you for this video.
You speak an excellent american English . Impressive.
I'm trying to do the same with English from south of England but I don't have your talent at all !😅
Very few people can fade their accent.
In France, I lived in Paris almost almost my life, I met very very very few foreign people without accent.I just remember a russian woman, that all.
Yes, foreign people can speak french very well, but without accent?no, it's absolutly exceptionnal.
Absolutly, learn a foreign language changes your mind, and your point of view about a lot of things👍 Nevertheless, I'm 53 years old, my priority is to be understood, to have a consistent pronunciation, and to have fun learning English.
See you soon on your youtube channel👍👌

Excellent !!!
That's true. I have a totally different personality speaking in Portuguese and Spanish. Looking forward to getting to know my personality speaking English. Thanks for the video.

This is so true to my experience. I am glad you made this video, which tells me I am not the only one going through all this.
Amol from India.
Hola muchas gracias.
Me estas ayudando mucho día a día ❤
This is so true. Watch a video of someone speaking any languages then switch to japanese. It's like you're watching somebody else.
Buen dia, saludos desde Mexico, interesante video
5:45. Benevolent? Definitely not a word/concept that would’ve been used by a native speaker in that context. Love it.
that's what I always thought, but didn't know how to express it) Thanks for such informative videos, it's good to know ❤
Gracias por el video, bendiciones para ti y tu familia.
Brilliant explanation!

You really sound a perfect native speaker
Hello my the best teacher, you are amazing. I saw all the your videos. Congratulation dear.
Thanks for leveling up my English, I'm from Africa in Tanzania 🇹🇿
You are right.Fredom.Be yourself.
You are really brilliant 😍
Actually is not just another language that changes behavior, also slangs or even accents from certain regions

Paolo.
