Dan B that’s great if you know what brands are reputable, what condition to look for, and price to look for. For newbies, they’re going to look at these new, which can be very intimidating and off-putting. Not everyone has your knowledge of golf or watches these videos, remember that.
I’d play with used clubs in a heart beat like most the people who follow Rick. We already love golf. But it’s not as attractive to the outsider that’s thinking about picking up the game. Manufacturers are operating on a model that they can make 90% of their profits targeting the top 10% of golf customers. Can the rest of the golf industry follow this same model? I.e. courses. Your a liar if you can tell me a new club in your bag doesn’t make you want to golf more than anything. Let’s put more new clubs in more bags and grow the game.
Totally agree, that iron sets are getting out of hand price wise Rick. But the golf world has those who will pay any amount, just to have the latest equipment.
$1,300... wow. I purchase my golf equipment a model cycle or two behind (as testing shows that there is barely any difference anymore), and save a huge amount. I can't fathom spending that much for an iron set.
It’s absurd. I got a 6 set of cobra f7s for $220 off eBay, used twice. Maybe not as good as a club but close enough as to where it’s much more worth it to spend less
There are 8 clubs in a full set of irons, Taylor Made gives you 7 clubs for 1300 and calls it a full set. Do they include a jar of Vaseline for the reaming they are giving us?
Remember you are helping the cash strapped Rory, DJ, Day etc purchase their next mansion and boat.....saw a full set of P760s yesterday. They looked great but so did the AP2s and Mizuno JPX/MP irons on the same rack.
At about the 2:00 mark, you list a chart with the lofts. Your chart has the 4 iron at 22.5*, and the 5 iron at 23.5* lofts. TaylorMade's website differs. It lists the 4 iron at 22.0* and the 5 iron at 25.5* loft. The TM site makes a lot more sense, as I doubt they'd have one degree of difference between the 4 and 5 irons, or that huge of a gap between the 5 and 6 irons as your chart lists. Hopefully you can still edit your video. Also, you didn't like the offset on the 3 and 4 irons. It's 3.3mm and 3.1mm respectively, which is pretty minimal. Compare the Mizuno irons, which you mentioned that you liked, although it was more for price than offset, though you consider Mizuno to be excellent quality. The Mizuno JPX919 Tour irons, which are the most comparable model, has an offset of 3.3mm for the 3 iron and 3.2mm for the 4 iron. You did review the JPX900 in the past, and you absolutely loved them, and I would imagine their offset is the same as the 919, which is essentially the same as these TaylorMade irons.
Not interested in these irons at all but if Rick posts a review then I am watching it! Love the way you did the test indoors and out on the course! Looking forward to seeing more from you like this! 👌👌👌
Same here. I have no intention of buying anything he reviews. These OEM's and their prices prevent that. But, his charisma on camera is fantastic. He has an aura about him, he just glows on screen. He's made it into my top 5 people I'd love to play 18 with lol.
Prices are silly - there are as many equally good irons out there at much lower prices. And compared to these the Hogan irons make these look exorbitant.
I’m just above a 5 handicap and I currently own the Callaway XR Pro irons. I was recently at my local golf shop and tried these irons in the simulator. These were the nicest irons I have ever hit and was gaining distance, control, and spin
New clubs are more expensive than they used to be, but there are tons of clubs that are a just couple years old that can still compete with todays best stuff despite being hugely discounted. Options are good.
One of your most honest reviews ever! Glad you called them out for their price. Would like to see you call them out for their “forged” claim since only the face looks to be forged. Forged face + cast body should not count as fully forged.
I just hit these this past weekend at a TM Demo, they did feel great, especially with stiff graphite on them. Then I hit my 2016 M2 Tours and was amazed at the similarity of them. Same feel, same distance for another $1300??? NO! Maybe the Big Three are charging so much for their clubs because they know that in a year they'll be half price on Ebay, and they want to get their $$$$!
Really happy to see more on-course testing for this review. Hope the format stays as the truest review is how well they can play the shots on the course when needed. High end irons in Canada have always been $1300 plus so these coming in at $1600 is no surprise given the increase in pricing over the last couple years. I have no issues with the price as irons are an investment in my books. Short of tour pros, and even some of them don't, I don't see why anyone would be changing irons every year so I don't really understand the complaints on price. Surely a set of irons should last 5+ years easily. If you can afford a new set of irons every year, then by all means, but I've been playing the same set of irons for over 10 years. And when I upgrade them, I don't see myself upgrading again for at least 5 years. Really the only clubs that should be updated on a more frequent basis are the wedges. Apart from that, drivers, woods, hybrids, irons, putters should all easily be played for 5+ years no problem.
Hi Rick - I was fitted and just received a new set of P760 irons 4-PW. I found your video vary good and thorough as usual. I did notice there was a typo on the 5 iron degree loft. It's 25.5 degrees not 23.5. Keep up the great performance reviews....Cheers...Greg in AZ
The most pleasing thing about this review - slaying them on price. It was bad enough having to fork out £550 for a 5-PW set of Callaway X22 Tour's 10 years ago. Looking around at the market I can see irons like Apex, G400, AP2, JPX900 going for roughly £150 more than what I paid which I could live with, but these "top spec" irons edging over £1000 puts them way off my radar. Don't get me wrong I would do some unsavoury things to get my grubby mitts on them but no way could I justify spending that kind of money unless I won the lotto. What's most annoying for me is due to being 5'2" tall my custom fit specs - 2 degrees flat and 1.25" to 1.5" short - make it nigh on impossible to find suitable sets on golfbidder otherwise I would have a wide range of last gen clubs to choose from at far more sensible prices.
We’re being ripped off. Try explaining to a non golfer how your new driver is value for money when you look at what else £500 would buy. The major manufacturers seem to be operating as a cartel with sets aimed at certain ability levels all priced similarly irrespective of production costs. They are of course pricing at what they think we will pay. The solution is therefore in our own hands! Kudos for raising this Rick
They look amazing that's for sure. Was thinking of replacing my R11's soon but at that price you can forget it. Plus they'd need to be something special for me to switch. Great review again mate. Keep up the good work 👍
Had a fitting on Saturday with Taylormade, finally have my swing to the point where I think I can move into a “players” level iron. Tried the p790s first, they felt alright and look great, but went way too far. As much as I enjoyed hitting 190 yard 7 irons, that wouldn’t make sense for my yardage gapping. Then tried the 760s. Wow. Only my second time hitting forged irons, but they have outstanding feel. Yardages were perfect for what I game too. Great look in the bag and behind the ball. I ordered them that day, now I play the waiting game.
Love the visuals and editing in this video. I agree 100% that I’d take a good hard look at getting some Mizuno irons for the price and qualify forged feel over paying an insane amount of money for these taylormade irons.
Glad you are doing video's. My clubs where US $1,400 (they where given to me) and in San Diego, CA average instructor will cost over $100 an hour. Clubs are getting to expensive. This why I watch you and a couple other instructors. Very informing and its free. Thank you!
Prices of clubs are crazy and its near impossible for me to afford to ever buy brand new clubs. I have to resort to either second hand or discontinued models. My irons cost me $670 Aud, about 370 pounds and thats only cause my golf shop was doing 50% off nike irons. Its just madness. Awesome review as always Rick! ..I think they look pre ugly tbh I hate the 'grill' looking back of it. Definitely the ugly duckling in the P700 range.
Good to see that you are concerned about pricing, being a dad does that. I purchased MP-18SC 5-7, Mp-18 MB 8-PW, MP-18MMC 4 iron. $1050.00 full msrp no discounts from MIzuno, 3 weeks before JPX-919 release. Upset about no knowledge of new release. I am upset about feel & ball speed off MP-18 blades. I am a Mizuno loyalist, last 4 sets all Mizuno blades. I like my clubs D-3,D-4. The SC's are great. The tip weight installed in shaft to swingweight is old school & not correct. I should have taken your advice, all SC's. Striking the ball 2nd groove, dead center feels like a hunk of metal. " Poor Turbo" Good design gone bad by poor modern assembly. Moving CG towards the heel of a blade is the kiss of death. It's like swing weighting a driver at the shaft tip. Juniors & high school kids who want to be on the golf team are faced with $2000-$3000 dollar price tag to get in the sport. "Hey dad I need the new Titleist driver with Graphite design shaft, for $750 , I will get 2 mph more ball speed." By the way good job on "Driver vs Driver". My old town I grew up in. Your getting real honest in your old age! lol.
Good review Rick. When the government increases taxes or the supply companies increase service prices we either complain, change suppliers or vote out the govt at the next election. But hey keep increasing golf clubs beyond the average golfers pocket and that's ok for us. Wake up golfers, how much difference will they really make to your game would £1300 on lessons be more beneficial (thought you might like that Rick) We are doing more than just hitting the white ball it is the whole experience that's important.
@@jakebishop7822 unless you are a large US company trading in the UK or have a creative accountant. But everything has a limit ,yes we'd all like to buy a nice set of new clubs with all the bells and whistles but the point is at what price does it cease to be value for money and just pure business profit?
I've noticed a statement that's made quite a bit in, not only your videos, but others as well. It goes something like this. These are players irons so they have traditional lofts. I'm not expecting extra distance from these clubs. I think it's time that golf starts to regulate itself just a bit. Either adopt standard lofts for irons or require the loft angle to be engraved on the club head. Why? For truth in advertising!! Do you remember the Olamar Trimetel? I think that was the early 90's. Don't quote me on that. They proved their irons went farther then anybodies. Of course all they did was change the lofts. They were at least a club off on most of the irons. Dishonest in my opinion. So let's make a 7 iron 34 degrees loft like it should be. Then if you manufacture a 7 iron of a different loft you must put the loft on the club. If you want to make a 31 degree lofted 7 iron, which is really a 6 iron, go right ahead. Just be honest about it.......
I couldn’t agree more. Club manufacturers are pricing the game out of the hands of the average player. You used to get 3 iron to Sand iron in sets and pay a fraction of what you pay for 4-PW. It’s scandalous. Keep up the good work Rick. Another top class, unbiased review.
Hi RS! I just recieved my P790s 2019 model. They are gorgeous! Big investment but will last me the next 5 to 10 years! Like my R7's. Love the content! Well done!
Euhm, big negative? Great emphasis on the price, while they are already offered cheaper online (co dot uk)? Even custom. Same price as P790 when they came out: 1,050 GBP (for 7 irons). - Think the 1.300 is for 8 irons. Which is not any more expensive as other brands. Kinda clickbait title if you ask me.
Ok, they are expensive, but on the site we are all familiar with, MRRP for the following sets was (eventually these P760 will go down in price also): Ping i500: 7 irons: 1.043 GPB Titleist AP2: 7 irons: 1.050 GPB Taylormade P790: 7 irons: 1.050 GPB The same price. Not saying it's not expensive. Just that these prices aren't new. And no, of course I'm not comparing them to a set of Wilsons (for instance).
Funny you mention the offset on the long irons. I recently switched from Titleist 712 MBs to 718 AP2s. I don’t play as much golf as I used too so I made the switch to a cavity back iron but am really struggling getting used to the offset in the long irons. Doesn’t suit my eye at all!
I am with you on the long irons. It just looked like a toe hook was coming. I preferred the look of the 790 as well. I have ended up with the new Titleist irons. PW-7 in the T100 and 6,5,4 in the T200. I added a degree of loft to the T200 to reduce the gap, and they're great. I really like the lofts of the T100 irons. I don't want to hit PW 150+ yards which with modern tech and lofts I was approaching. 140 is the sweet spot for me and the T100 was right on it. Also creates the perfect gapping to my 52,56 and 60. Great video.
(11 hdcp) was playing the ping g400s and loved their forgiveness, but wanted a more workable set that looked great but still gave some help. i got these in early 2022 for £500 4-pw off of golfbidder in unbelievable condition. absolutely love them, and they help with giving feedback on missed strikes etc. thats why I always reccomend second hand.
Just ordered a set of JPX 919 tours 4-pw for $1050 usd and couldn’t be happier. Softest irons I’ve ever played and very clean looking. Also zero up charges for shafts or grips and arrived within 4 days.
Im plaing a set of Nike CCi Forged from 2007 because I cannot afford a new set because of the prices. I have been disabled for the last 10 years and Im now trying to get into good enough shape to go back to work by playing golf when my body lets me. I am hoping that one day a club manufacture will buck the system and off their product for 1/2 the price of all the competition and get the market share of sales (make money through shear number of sales rather then try to make it with 1/2 the sales or less) I would love a new set of Titleist 718 AP3's or some Mizuno's but It wont happen in this lifetime :( Good review!!!!
Hi Rick, If price wasn’t a concern between the P760 and P790 (as there are some heavily reduced P760 sets out there at present) which would you recommend for an improving 18 handicap
How do the P760 compare to the Ping i210 in terms of feel & forgiveness? I’m looking to get into 5-PW and GW. speed foam in the P760 5, 6 and 7 iron (also stronger loft in the 5 & 6 iron of P760) so more ball speed and distance in the P760 in those 2 or 3 irons? I’m a 2.4 handicap, best part of my game is short game especially putting (+5.4 in ARCOSS) Solid overall game, Driver Speed about 100 mph (looking to get up to about 105 with speed sticks this year) Goin for a custom fit at 2ndSwing near Philadelphia come late spring and will put these 2 head to head with Graphite shafts and see what performs best for me!
Good review I like your new format and I'm glad you bring up price. I think that should be included after all you are helping people decide if they want to buy them and that is a factor as much as performance.
Rick, I agree with you. I’d hate that closed look. In fact, I set my rescues open. So, the irons don’t gradually start closing up through the bag? It’s just the 3 and 4??? Correct? Thanks if can confirm....
Got my clubs for free99. Some hand me downs from the brother in law. We are both 6’6” & 6’7” so we get them +3”. Old set of Callaway X-16s. I’m looking to get fitted for some new clubs here in the near future. I appreciate all the reviews they are definitely helpful, going over the pros and cons. I think I’m leaning towards the AP3’s to complement my SM7s I got this year.
Nice Review format. I love that you don’t go on and on about facts and thoughts about what might happen before you actually hit them or take them to the course. You stick to the facts and differences we want to here about and then see how they worked. Thanks Rick!!
I paid around $250 usd for a new set of Wilson C200 irons and I absolutely love them. I think modern golf equipment is getting way too expensive for sure. I think the whole idea of golf being a rich person's sport has set a bad precedent for the industry. Love your honesty Rick, great review!
I like the old rick where you enjoyed playing golf with peter on vlog and review clubs straight to the point by using the GC quad 5 balls each for different irons.
Good very honest review, not afraid of saying about the long irons also more importantly the price of golf clubs in general, the only way to stop the daft prices including golf balls by the way is the golfing public not to buy clubs etc unless it’s making your game much better but most people need to boycott the big boys as it’s getting a bit silly and not encouraging people to buy new clubs, also how about the golfers who bought the two models they are scrapping they will be almost worthless in a part exchange even worse than normal due to them being ditched by the manufacturer, shame on you Taylormade.
Nothing better than a honest truthful review in your eyes. As golf fan's we all strive to get that little nugget of information that might just make our decisions a little more in the right direction( 🤔) Rick shiels in these current times with notable drops in club membership and golf companies throwing expensive price tags on sets like these?? I fear for where the game is heading a divide is appearing and I'm not sure how good it is for the general future..saying all that it's there job but I really like the point you made.
Currently rocking the cobra forged Tec ( the older black model) is it worth making a change to these considering I'm not the best ball striker in the world and somehow is still a 4 handicapper . Any advise ??
P790 just ordered. finished 2017 at 10 hcp, missed all last year with back injury. tried out irons past 2 weekends and for me hands down the P790 was the best feeling and hitting iron. I was so so with the p760. while both expensive, no need for the $100 more for those. I think the P790's will be like the M2 driver. will be better than a few models to come.
Thank you for calling out manufacturers on the price. For someone like me who loves golf but has very little spare income, every dollar needs to be well spent. I still play with older model used clubs because I can't afford any new clubs with these prices getting out of hand. Even kids clubs are expensive. I have a 4 year old who's obsessed with golf, so I used the money I was saving for my own clubs to get him his own set. He's a lefty so it wasn't easy to find a good set at a good price.
Great review! And agreed, that is too high of a price for a mid handicap iron. I bought a used but mint condition set of Titleist AP1 4-GW, (8 clubs) for $650 USD and could not be happier, would NEVER pay $1300 for a set of irons.
I paid about US$300 for 8 irons (3 - PW), Callaway X22's a few years ago. I bought them used, directly from Callaway. They were in as new condition, with new grips. I also bought a used gap wedge and 3 wood from Callaway, but I can't remember the price. Not much, though; and again, like new with new grips.
Hi I am amateur golfer in south korea. My handycap is about 15 . I am thinking changing irons. Now i am using yamaha irons. Irons i am thiking to chang is P 760 and P790 . Which one do you recommend regardless of price?
I think the P790 would suit a 15 handicap better bc they are more forgiving and provide a little more distance. They might not "feel" as good as the p760's though. hope that helps
Are the irons completely forged with the 3 through 7 irons being a two piece forged iron? I was asked the question the other day on how and where they were forged. I wasn't sure if it was just the face.
I was looking to get the p750’s until I found out they were discontinuing them. So I thought I’d hold off to see what the next range coming out were gonna be. But the price is a bit iffy for me now. I’m still playing my Titleist ap2 714. Can’t seem to find anything with better feel and look for me personally until the p750. What u recommend mate?
This new question is a very good one, I watch a lot of video and I don’t think I’ve seen this, but I want to know how to take my swing from the driving range to the golf course because I do really well at the range but not even close on the course. Thanks
Crazy prices in the UK. P760's aren't in the stores in Canada but the P790 is listed at CAD$1449 for 7 clubs which converts to 848 pounds. Mizuno MP18's are the same price
Iron sets are way too expensive nowadays, that's why I'm buying used irons. Bought Callaway Rogue Pro irons from a friend for £425. Thank you for a great review Rick, love your vids!
Concise, honest review as always. The irons look fantastic but that price tag is ridiculous. All golf clubs from wedges to woods are going up and up in price. Where will it level out? We'll all be waiting until they've been out a year and the price drops.
I have been playing golf for 2 months.. and bought 2nd hand titleist AP2 710.. its really hard for me hit the sweet spot on that club.. any suggestions for me?
Great Review Rick, as always. Yes golf clubs are prices are getting to expensive. Clubmakers are putting out new irons and drivers seemingly every 6 months. I want ed to get a set the M3 irons and bam the Mizuno irons comes out. They have a better price point and have always been my favorite brand for Irons. Those will be the ones I get fitted for in the s Spring. As for these new Taylor Made irons, I was excited until I saw the price. Yikes! Then, they wonder why Golfers play there older sets longer. I am going 4 years with my current set. Cmon Clubmakers, get it together. Thanks Rick!
Luv the video especially the on course reviews, wanted to know though if you have ever had a hole in one on gc quad? You and Pete go close but have you ever had one on the quad?
Most irons you've reviewed in similar category have more offset, i500, 919 line including the tours, srixon 785s (no reviews on a GREAT lineup) etc etc.....all raving reviews. Although you praise these you still accentuate the offset. But not on the others as mentioned. Any reasons? Viewers will get stuck on something like that.
There are a lot of good irons that can match these TM P760's and that are more economical. The Srixon Z785, Wilson Staff Tour V6 (just to mention two) can give you just as good results, and looks, while you pocket significant money. Good review as usual - thanks.
Not sure if anybody else caught this but at 1:55 you have the 5i listed at 23.5* which I assume is a typo. As for the irons, I find them hideous looking ha.
Really appreciate your comments on the increasing prices we're all seeing on equipment, no wonder some clubs are struggling for members when you look at these headline prices of new kit.
The production on this video says, "I've spent time filming at the Golf Channel and I learned a thing or two". Keep evolving Mr. Shields the sky is the limit.
Finally the prices of these are coming down. I have been looking at replacing my srixon z565s with something that feels as nice if not better but primarily gives me much less dispersion and better accuracy. I have been through several tests and fittings on various brands and clubs including the new Arizona, pings, mizunos, apex etc. Recently tried these and have found these the best and for me in part because of the lowest offset on these which I prefer. Look is great and a I only use 6 to aw no need for blending. While I was tempted by the apex because of distance dispersion was much greater even with different shafts and much preferred the look and feel of these.
Hi Rick, how about doing a test of old v's new clubs? I bought a used set of Callaway X-14 Pro Series a couple of years ago, they're obviously old but in great condition and play wonderfully. I'd be interested to know how they would stand up to irons of today.
A shell game of the Golf Companies. Change the lofts and the lengths of the clubs. I'm still playing with my 1994 Lynx Parallax irons. PW is 50 degrees, 9 iron is 44 degrees, 7 iron is 36 degrees, you go down to the 3 iron it is 22 degrees. You've got 1 -2 lofts strengths stronger on all clubs on these TaylorMade's. My bet is they are 1" to 1 1/2" length difference as well. Of course you are going to hit the ball longer. Physics doesn't change: Mass x Speed = Distance.
Crazy Crazy Price. I think sometimes that golf club manufacturers are getting more like mobile phone companies who release a new model it feels like every month. It's great that Rick reviews these and gives an honest and knowledgable review. Thanks Rick.
Just ordered a set of these and found your review! I'm am excited and also interested to see what I think of the longer irons and the offset! Thanks Rick!
The way you described them, and looking at your results, they remind me of the Wilson C300forged, except the C300forged are TONS cheaper. Your thoughts?
Great video, Rick. The P760's look great but, as a mid-handicapper, I think that I would lose distance with them. I need irons with more forgiveness and can give me some extra distance, like the Mizuno 919 Hot Metal irons. Keep up the great reviews. I always look forward to your thoughts on the new equipment.
Golf equipment prices have just gone mad in the last couple of years, it seems to be at least 25% more, I wish my wages could go up that much. Good review Rick and fair play for bringing up the massive cost
Great video as usual. Love the irons but agree with the pricing being too high. P.S what waterproof jacket is that as the on I have just feels too big and gets in the way when playing
I got mine for a cold 300. Granted they are new golfer irons! I do think that the price for new "higher end" irons is a discouragement for new golfers. If Golf companies want to keep building the market for clubs they might need to take some off the front end so in the long run they have a bigger customer base!
Not sure I like the backs of these clubs - but then again I do not see the back when I hitting the ball. I like the idea of progressive set, with long irons having speed form and short irons being almost blades. For 7i-PW (having tested them last week) I would go for the Mizuno 919 Tour, longer irons in that set scare me, so 5i & 6i would be 919 Forged or even Hot Metal. Price is way too high Rick: you have me completely hooked on the Driver v Driver 2
Mizuno mizuno mizuno - last 3 sets over about 15 year span - just replaced mp-60 with 919 tour - they also dont nickel and dime you for shafts grips - +1/2 inch 0.5 up modus tour 105 - mmc plus 4 grips all no charge upgrades - 6 days from fitting to delivery!! Btw - hit the 919 forged all over the place - forget game improvement - get clubs that provide feedback so you figure out how to consistently hit the middle

Q: Are golf clubs getting too expensive? How much were your set of irons?
*If you are NEW to my channel SMASH that subscribe button to stay connected!*
$75 for a set of Tommy Armour 845 FS silver scot
Golf clubs are getting more expensive everyday and it is kind of getting annoying? My irons were £150 but now they are £200-£300
Yes... plus the exchange rate between $ / £ to malaysian ringgit make it worst... but i bough P790 november last year....
Having to pay for Rory, Dustin and Tiger could be elevating the price...
Some are. Some aren’t. Bought Wilson Staff c300 forged for less than $1000.
Appreciate you calling out the price!! Manufacturers are killing the game with these prices.
Killing the game? ROFL, no one makes you buy them, you can get quality sets of used irons from £150 upwards on ebay!
Your a liar if you can tell me a new club in your bag doesn’t make you want to golf more than anything. Let’s put more new clubs in more bags and grow the game.
Jeremy Manning if you think you need expensive clubs to be good at the game... go get your brain checked.
A main reason for this is probably because tour pros are being paid ridiculous amounts of money to use their equipment.
Totally agree, that iron sets are getting out of hand price wise Rick. But the golf world has those who will pay any amount, just to have the latest equipment.
Look no further than PXG
Solid review man!
👍👍👍
$1,300... wow. I purchase my golf equipment a model cycle or two behind (as testing shows that there is barely any difference anymore), and save a huge amount. I can't fathom spending that much for an iron set.
Yeah I just got some titleist 716's and they're great. Have no desire to spend $1k+ on brand new irons.
It’s absurd. I got a 6 set of cobra f7s for $220 off eBay, used twice. Maybe not as good as a club but close enough as to where it’s much more worth it to spend less
Justin Tullo
Not the same catogorie at all......
These cobra compare the the adams speedlines......
allo cromeau spending 1300 on clubs is just absurd in my opinion, and I still think that they aren’t even significantly worse
Justin Tullo
I paid 1300$ on my hole complete bag all TP stuff even the bag....
There are 8 clubs in a full set of irons, Taylor Made gives you 7 clubs for 1300 and calls it a full set. Do they include a jar of Vaseline for the reaming they are giving us?
Raymond Yadusky I got a bottle scented numbing lube and a condom with my set of Taylor mades.
6 clubs is actually standard now. PW-5i.
8823samuel that makes it even more ridiculous. Changing the “standard” and still charging outrageous amounts.
Remember you are helping the cash strapped Rory, DJ, Day etc purchase their next mansion and boat.....saw a full set of P760s yesterday. They looked great but so did the AP2s and Mizuno JPX/MP irons on the same rack.
@@jeanferret9497 at my shop all of those cost more than the taylormade. I know its 7 months late but still
At about the 2:00 mark, you list a chart with the lofts.

Good point! Lol
Exactly
Irons from the 90s can easily compete with these

Good honest and impartial review. Helps the average person get a good perspective on what we are looking at.
One of your most honest reviews ever! Glad you called them out for their price. Would like to see you call them out for their “forged” claim since only the face looks to be forged. Forged face + cast body should not count as fully forged.
Those look so clean
What !! they have pointless ugly lines stamped on them ,you may like them but this is not a clean look .
Rick: Thanks for the honest reviews! Also enjoying your stint on Driver-vs-Driver-s2
His hamsters must sleep quite well.

Beautiful looking irons, but the price is ridiculous.
They look like shite mate. But each to their own
The most pleasing thing about this review - slaying them on price.
Would these replace the Wilson V6?
Nick Furness I suspect he can play with anything, but given he hates look of long irons, that will be a no.
Keep up the good work 👍
Thanks Neil!
maybe think about a used set of P790s as those start to come down in price? I'm in the same boat as you!

Ugly irons.....
Looking at getting a 2nd hand set, do u still have the p760? How did u find them?
@@Tomdabomb86 still have them and still love them. No regrets at all
Super thanks
Love the visuals and editing in this video. I agree 100% that I’d take a good hard look at getting some Mizuno irons for the price and qualify forged feel over paying an insane amount of money for these taylormade irons.
After all Mizuno don't need mattress technology to make their irons feel soft...
Just got 919 tours, love them love them love them.
Check out golf clearance outlet. They have a few stores as well as a good website. Prices seem very good too.
Wake up golfers, how much difference will they really make to your game would £1300 on lessons be more beneficial (thought you might like that Rick)
We are doing more than just hitting the white ball it is the whole experience that's important.
well you have to pay taxes, you don't have to buy new golf clubs.
Well said
Excellent new review style rick. Well done mate!
Thanks so much mate
Rick Shiels Golf No problem. Love your channel
Can a 9-15 handicap play these
Harrison Gifford why do u ask?
Symra because my handicap is between those
It’s a 15 handicap
lol pleb, he never claimed to be a single handicapper, you probably have 54 Xddddd
Yeah I would say so! But would recommend trying them first!
It is vastly more expensive for a stock 8 club set compared to many others. What planet are you on?
Ok, they are expensive, but on the site we are all familiar with, MRRP for the following sets was (eventually these P760 will go down in price also):
Ping i500: 7 irons: 1.043 GPB
Titleist AP2: 7 irons: 1.050 GPB
Taylormade P790: 7 irons: 1.050 GPB
The same price. Not saying it's not expensive. Just that these prices aren't new. And no, of course I'm not comparing them to a set of Wilsons (for instance).
Forged in Vietnam as well. Mizuno and Srixon, the best feeling forged irons, are made by craftsmen in Japan, where labour costs are very high.
Music is way better
I am with you on the long irons. It just looked like a toe hook was coming. I preferred the look of the 790 as well. I have ended up with the new Titleist irons. PW-7 in the T100 and 6,5,4 in the T200. I added a degree of loft to the T200 to reduce the gap, and they're great. I really like the lofts of the T100 irons. I don't want to hit PW 150+ yards which with modern tech and lofts I was approaching. 140 is the sweet spot for me and the T100 was right on it. Also creates the perfect gapping to my 52,56 and 60. Great video.
Caught you gaming the PRACTICE balls one the course. ☝️☠️
Rick in the loft you showed us the 4-5 iron only have 1 degree in loft difference. Why?

I am hoping that one day a club manufacture will buck the system and off their product for 1/2 the price of all the competition and get the market share of sales (make money through shear number of sales rather then try to make it with 1/2 the sales or less) I would love a new set of Titleist 718 AP3's or some Mizuno's but It wont happen in this lifetime :(
Good review!!!!
There is only 1° of difference between the 4 and 5 iron?
Hi Rick, apologies if someone has already said. I think you had the loft of the 5 iron listed wrongly. It was only one degree more than the 4 iron.
I’m a 2.4 handicap, best part of my game is short game especially putting (+5.4 in ARCOSS) Solid overall game, Driver Speed about 100 mph (looking to get up to about 105 with speed sticks this year)
Goin for a custom fit at 2ndSwing near Philadelphia come late spring and will put these 2 head to head with Graphite shafts and see what performs best for me!
What's the gap like between the 7 and the 8? I would think going from solid to hollow head would make a huge jump up in distance.
Hey rick I'm looking to get a new set of irons and I'm about a 15 handicap what irons do you think I should get?
If I bought a set of clubs when my handicap was 20 and I get my handicap down to single digits do I need a new set?
Hey Rick! Your videos are incredible. What is the difference between the P760 and the new P770? Which would you buy?
Hay Rick what iron tee size did u use for teeing up iron...... Thanks
Those will be the ones I get fitted for in the s
Spring. As for these new Taylor Made irons, I was excited until I saw the price. Yikes! Then, they wonder why Golfers play there older sets longer. I am going 4 years with my current set. Cmon Clubmakers, get it together. Thanks Rick!
Hi Rick, would you be able to post the optimum numbers for each club that you think they should be.
Thanks
So Rick, did you feel you were compensating for the perceived offset in the longer irons, or did you just hit your shot and see where it went?
Hi Rick,
Love the videos! I currently play way Taylormade M2s would these or the P790 irons be a suitable upgrade?
Would like to see p730 7i vs p790 8i. Both 35° players vs distance
Crazy Crazy Price. I think sometimes that golf club manufacturers are getting more like mobile phone companies who release a new model it feels like every month. It's great that Rick reviews these and gives an honest and knowledgable review. Thanks Rick.
Like the new reviews, field testing and honesty is important. Clubs are getting pricey, so any help deciding where to spend is helpful
Just ordered a set of these and found your review! I'm am excited and also interested to see what I think of the longer irons and the offset! Thanks Rick!
and what did you think 2 years later ?
The way you described them, and looking at your results, they remind me of the Wilson C300forged, except the C300forged are TONS cheaper. Your thoughts?
hi rick, love the video, I wonder how's the feel compare to the P770?
Price is way too high
Rick: you have me completely hooked on the Driver v Driver 2
