My family is from Taxco....my mom still has family there that I have not seen since I was a young kid...I have fond memories of the small narrow streets and streets made of rocks

His family came from the state of San Luis Potosi so I was esp. interested in all your videos about the state and thrilled you chose it as YOUR #1 spot to visit. I've sent your videos on to him; he's never been back so I'm hoping to get him (and my family) down there for a visit at the least. Have fun in Canada! Love your videos!

Maybe they live in abject poverty and can't imagine the "wealth" we have....or, maybe some American came down and treated them badly and they now view all of us through that lens. I like that you say SLP personifies everything about Mexico -- everything! Yes, if we all shared all the stuff from all our towns there would be a lot of unpleasant info shared. Doesn't make all the people bad there. I know you get my drift. Hope to see you in Mexico someday somewhere!

Me being Mexican living in Chicago, you have visited lots of more places than me in Mexico, which is great! Very happy that Jerez and Zacatecas were in your top 5! Next time you go to Zacatecas you should definitely go to Susticacan just south of Jerez. It's a very small town but you will be very surprised. You will LOVE it!

Wow! I wasn't expecting at all for Zacatecas to be on your top three. It's a beautiful city and only some people in Mexico or in the outside know about it. Besides what you said we have very important museums, like the only museum of abstract art in Latin America (Manuel Felguerez) and the one with the biggest collection of masks from all around the world (Rafael Coronel) Thanks for recommending our city where everyone is welcome anytime!
Great list! It will be interesting to see if you reorder your locations after the passage of time. I suspect that Mexico City will move up (you might be taking it for granted right now as a result of "overexposure"). CDMX cannot be beat as a comprehensive introduction to Mexican culture and history! As an example of how things can change with the passage of time, I did not realize that Oaxaca was my #1 (tie with CDMX) until months later - after I had visited Puerto Escondido, Puebla and Merida. I hope you give Oaxaca another chance. Not just the city, but the gorgeous blue surrounding valleys. The Sunday market in Tlacolula is an incredible authentic cultural experience with amazing food and colourfully dressed Zapotec women selling produce, textiles and live turkeys. The archeological sites of Monte Alban and Mitla are stunning (and we were able to time our visits to both locations to be almost alone there). One more thing about Oaxaca - it is the home of Benito Juarez, the first indigenous president of Mexico. We learned much about him and Mexican history in Oaxaca. Oaxaca has lots of tourists, but mostly Mexican nationals and Europeans who are genuinely interested in experiencing the culture (as opposed to Americans interested in setting up gated ex pat communities and expensive craft shops (as in San Miguel and Merida). Your beautiful IG photo of Bernal convinced us to go there - and Queretaro - on our next visit. Many thanks

Absolutely!! I found PV and Cancun had nothing to offer me personally. I was in Oaxaca city for a couple of days but just to get a flight to Merida, which would have been at number 11!
Not completely surprised, that San Luis Potosí is numero uno on your list, Amigo. And I'm inclined to agree. And here's a slightly different version of "mi casa es su casa," that I often tell my Mexican girlfriend: "What is yours is mine, and what is mine is non of your damn business!" 😁 She makes the best mole in the world. I spent about a month in Yucatan! But none of the places made it to the list. Merida would have been 11. Uxmal so much better than Chichen Itza

Thanks for this video, David! Like you, I'd never include the typical tourist cities. I agree with most of your personal choices, though I would have included some other cities, like Oaxaca City, for example. I hope future Mexico visitors heed tour advice and dump potential PV/Cancún plans. Cheers!
Absolutely!! I found PV and Cancun had nothing to offer me personally. I was in Oaxaca city for a couple of days but just to get a flight to Merida, which would have been at number 11!
