Microsoft has been using Windows Defender to do client side scanning of your documents. Yes you heard that right. I'm an IT Security Consultant and another Professional out of Germany was working with reverse engineering viruses on his Windows 11 machine. During tihs process, even though his work was being done in a sandbox environment, Windows Defender was flagging his files despite them being unaccessable through normal Defender channels. Red flags went up and sure enough the professional found the outboard connection through network analysis where Defender was sending data back to the MOTHER SHIP in Redmond WA. Defender is NOT to be trusted.
It used to be an excellent AV. But it seems to have lost its marbles. It loves to doublescan old applications too, even of known sources. It's faster to open a VM and then my editor than to open the editor on Win11. Thanks for the info, that probably explains why it takes so long... it's also scanning my document folder, which is not where they expect. (I never use "My Documents")
@@Reziac It's scanning everything but mostly Pictures, documents and other personal files. This Security Professional as mentioned was working in a sandbox/isolated environment yet somehow Defender was getting access to his files and opening up a connection/port to Microsoft. OpenShell now work just fine in Windows11 to simply bring back old style start menu, to BROWSE the menu to see what is in the computer, rather than typing for searching something we don't know whether it's exist on certain computer. Save us A LOT OF clicks on mouse and keyboard.

Color me relieved, if I couldn't at least use StartAllBack I'm not sure what I'd do. As long as I can dock my taskbar to the top and use their custom start menu, I'm solid.
I like my StartAllBack. It has just the right amount of customization to change the things that bug me the most about Win11. I get my right-click context menu back, start menu, and explorer toolbar the way I like them! So far they've been pretty good with fixing any issues Microsoft throws out there but we'll have to see for how long!
I'm running 23H2 since that's all that's available now. The Explorer patcher went in fine, but you lost me when you said to uninstall it. Why? I use Open Shell, formally Classic Shell, and it works fine in Win 11. Free as well. Explorer patcher is working great and the small task bar is awesome. So when 24H2 update goes in, it's going to kill Explorer Patcher I'm already running?
I use Open-Shell, which is a continuation of Classic Shell project. Works fine, but has not been updated in more than a year. If Microsoft keeps bolting down windows i may consider switching to Linux completely (i already dual boot, which Microsoft also recently tampered with).
I make it a point to dual boot Mint on every machine these days. And it's easier then ever. Although I do disable secure boot, so I've not had any complications with that.

It's a Windows bug, and an old one at that, probably just easier to trigger with Explorer Patcher than other methods. It happens a ton to me in a windows 10 vm in another windows 10 hyper-v host. 50% of the times if i enter the vm the first time after shutting down the host without shutting down the vm (it gets freezed on host shutdown) i get the taskbar without any icon for a couple of minutes. No customizations done in that pc since it's a work pc i don't usually mess with
hopefully it doesn't mess up the functionality of winaero - tweaker to badly. probably the de-facto tool for customizing the interface on any version of windows
What I need to find is the following= I have done your Server method the rufus method and what happens going from win11 23h2 to 24h2 using either method works but after running and do the first windows update I get a failure to load KB5043178 and I can't clear it or manually load it. Do I wipe the drive and load win 11 24h2 clean using the methods explained on unsupported hardware to escape that annoying update failure? I did get win11 24h2 just fine and dandy on my new machines and I love it. HELP
I've so fatigued with MS messing with my PC. I've taken the time to use group policy and a long list of other regedits to just block 24H2. I'm staying on 23H2 until the wheels fall off. I'm just not going to let them keep breaking my desktop.
Heh, Stardock's been around since before that... I rarely call anything "must have," but their Object Desktop for OS/2 was the first thing I installed on any OS/2 installation. They've been around a good long while.

Seems like using malwarebytes as a anti-virus keeps windows defender firewall from working and then I have no access to windows store. If I try to update software, it says downloading and then oops error on our end try again later. I gave up, you have any ideas?
Quicklaunch could be sneak-enabled in Win7. But it no longer exists. A workaround is to make a desktop toolbar, then a folder on your desktop, and use that to organize your quicklaunch shortcuts. They will appear in the Desktop toolbar as a cascading menu, exactly as you organized them. Unfortunately so will everything else on your desktop. I haven't checked if it can be redirected to a different folder, because I'm lazy. :)
I think it's fair to criticize Microsoft blocking ExplorerPatcher, but I don't believe jumping to conclusions and making them out to be specifically targeting EP is fair and justified. It's much more likely that Defender recognizes the program includes (altered) Windows code and flags such as malicious by default.
Im good with 22H3 thank you. All my hardware will support it till it dies and thats all I care about. I could care less what Microsoft thinks. Its my computer and my OS I paid for. Ive said it from the start, don't trust Microsoft or defender. I got yelled at on Reddit. Thank you for proving my point. 😂

ESET Internet security. Been using this for over 5 years and never had issues with it. It blocks everything well that is marked as a virus and you got all the freedom to put in your own rules.
There are quite a few little customizations and shell replacers for Windows. granted there are a lot less shell replacers as most have been abandoned. There is one that has kind of been around since the XP days, IIRC. It's called Cairoshell. the closest comparison I can give it is how classic gnome and MATE desktops looked. The last time I tried it, it kind of broke the windows update app, and I had to run windows update via powershell. It's a very pretty DE though. Also, Windows update did run faster... so.. silver lining. Wonder how well that works. probably breaks a bunch of stuff 🤣 I'm sure I'll try it again at some point.
I was having a problem I was hoping you could help me out on I’m trying to reset my pc but sfc says something is corrupted so I used dism and it says everything is fine I watched your RUclips video about it and nothing works any help?

It happens a ton to me in a windows 10 vm in another windows 10 hyper-v host. 50% of the times if i enter the vm the first time after shutting down the host without shutting down the vm (it gets freezed on host shutdown) i get the taskbar without any icon for a couple of minutes. No customizations done in that pc since it's a work pc i don't usually mess with
what will happen if you have Explorer patcher as part of power toys and 23H2 and upgrade to 24H2 .. will it work or brake ?
hopefully it doesn't mess up the functionality of winaero - tweaker to badly. probably the de-facto tool for customizing the interface on any version of windows
HELP
Now I am even more sure that I'll stay on Windows 10.
I tried to install an anti keylogger and windows 11 would not allow it. It works in windows 10. But not 11.
hi, the videos are very good, congratulations, I have a question, I hope you can help me, I want to prepare a windows iso installer for my girlfriend's birthday, I was able to customize most of the things, but I would like her photo to be in the background when installing the system, please, if you can, help me, how can I solve this thank you very much, I wish you continued success
Seems like using malwarebytes as a anti-virus keeps windows defender firewall from working and then I have no access to windows store. If I try to update software, it says downloading and then oops error on our end try again later. I gave up, you have any ideas?
Hello, I was wondering if these programs allow to add the Quick Launch toolbar, it is sad that Microsoft did not added, it very useful for me. Thanks
The name of the virus according to defender is explorer patcher.
I believe you are wrong. It's not your OS. You paid for a license to use it.
They still dont get to spy on us. That is just wrong
@@truckwrecker6822 Hell, he even agreed to that long ass EULA that no one ever reads that is enforceable and legally binding contract.
Clauses that restrict modifications to the software, including the use of third-party shells. These restrictions are often found under sections related to “License Restrictions” or “Use Restrictions”. If you want a refresher, it's in the Settings > System > About.
I used to always use explorer patcher but the fact you gotta update it every couple of days was annoying. Plus MS brought back the features I needed in the end like stacking when running multiple of the same apps.
Help!!!!!!!!!! Windows 11 keeps rearranging my icons by itslef!! Cannot find any ways to fix this and seems to be a common problem with multiple monitors installed..... Tried everything I've seen online and it's not working. Could you help?? Thank you!
I can't see any reason to even want to do this. What am I missing?
Not much, if anything. Use what works for you.
Windows Beta versions are for people to test, Microsoft reads those results in order to develop the software, OF COURSE they don't want false results due to other software hacking into the kernel or system files.
Just tried to update Explorer Patcher and Windows Defender still reports it as a virus.
Thank Cthulhu I can use these to get my taskbar back to the top where it belongs
What about Windhawk?
Why cant microsoft bring back Windows Experience Index like they had in Windows 7? That was an awesome feature
GITHUB will figure things out
Github 2024.
but github is also controlled by microsoft
what do you recommend to an alternative to Windows Defender? I have been running defender for many, many, many years and this just makes me mad... I love explorer patcher. think it is time to switch to someone else.
Wonder how well that works. probably breaks a bunch of stuff 🤣 I'm sure I'll try it again at some point.
how can get screensaver back in the main menu?
I was having a problem I was hoping you could help me out on I’m trying to reset my pc but sfc says something is corrupted so I used dism and it says everything is fine I watched your RUclips video about it and nothing works any help?
Microsoft not updating Windows 10 after End of Life has gotta be the best thing they did yet thanks to me not having TPM2.0 I can make the forced update behave a little better remember to disable your TPM2.0 if you don't want to use the Windows 11 dystopian edition Operating System.
Windows 11 24H2 isn't much to shout about. On my computer as I have configured it, I do not notice any changes so far.
You never get tired of this mindset, do you? Just dismissing other people's experiences and staying locked in your own perception of what's real and what's not.
If I install another anti-virus program it will disable Defender correct? So which AV do you recommend? Hell I'll even pay for it.
