I have a rental property with disintegrating mortar between the 4 large stone walls. I was dreading taking a week of vacation to repair the wall but it was too expensive to hire it out. I found it to be surprisingly cathartic. Now I'm going to tuck point bricks on my mom's house and I can't wait!! Thanks so much for the tips!!
Really good series of vids, Rodian. Your presenting style is excellent for novices to the trade to follow, easy to understand and explaining WHY things are done, not just a case of "do it like this and don't ask questions"!
It's like an online apprenticeship, they're that good. If there were channels like this for all the trades out there, I would spend 10 hours a day on RUclips.
I am really enjoying all of your videos. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I had no idea the mortar took so long to cure. That it is still workable days later blew me away. How long does it take until it gathers it's full strength on average?
Your videos are bang on, learning my trade in roofing but love watching your vids too, teaches me a lot & this came in handy for pointing a stack nice & neat
Nice one Rodian. I was shown the opposite way round when I was a lad 🙄😆. Beds - perps - beds - brush , shouldn’t need to top n tail after that.👌🏼 Each to their own as the saying goes . 🧱🧱🧱🧱👈🏻👍🏽
That's interesting, Steve. I'm the same as Rodian, I was always taught to do perps 1st then beds. I've never even thought of trying it the other way round since! I will give if a go though, to see if it ends up being a better way! 👍
Shinobi . Good point there pal ( no pun untended ) . When I started back in 1987 we “ stick jointed “ We used a 12mm thick piece of hardwood with the edge rounded off . It was abound 1 foot long and about 4”” deep cut in the shape of a parallelogram. Top and bottom for beds . Ends for perps . They didn’t last long but put a lovely finish on the brickwork 👈🏻🧱👍🏽
Haha bloody hell, ive had bricks in australia that suck the water out of mortar that bad you have to join after every course. I Summer it’s a fucking nightmare with those bricks
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I'm feeling a little more confident at giving it a go myself. Cheers!

Love these videos. You explain everything and don’t make any assumptions of people’s knowledge. Good job!

Thank you for making this video
Fantastic videos. I only wished I'd discovered them before repointing half of my g2 listed garden wall with hydraulic lime.
In the beginning of the video I had thought that arrow on the wall was the play button on my phone

What tool is used for finishing a wall after cement dried
Very informative Rhodian cheers
Top & Tail! Love it! Lol
Good video thank you👍What’s the mix ratio you are using please?
With a lime mortar, how many courses can you lay before it starts pressing the muck out of the first course?
Very enjoyable. Thank you again
Great video mate 👍 thanks 👍👌🍺

Good Job!
Very good Rodian you could also do a flush joint as it is quite a common joint as well 👍
I have a wall that is 36' tall and 50' wide. I don't know how I will manage it.
Top class
So helpful pal.
Thanks for sbowing
13:47 That's beautiful!.
How long do you have to leave your mortar to go off before you point up ?
This is great
start of vid, looks like you are building an outside 4 poster bed ;
Сильный человек!
Как думаешь, сколько он жмет жим лёжа?
I really tried to tap the damn play button 🤦♂️
... I won't say how many times before I realised 😅

Shinobi . Cheers pal , it’s like riding a bike , you’ll never forget it and it’s always there when you need it 👌🏼👍🏼🧱
Use toe or heel . Good content keep it up
what lime are you using ? if its hydrated it'll never set. try using NHL2 or NHL3.5 . 👍
👍🏻
Fyi,This is lime mortar. Portland cement this would not work waiting this long to finish the pointing
Haha bloody hell, ive had bricks in australia that suck the water out of mortar that bad you have to join after every course. I Summer it’s a fucking nightmare with those bricks
Dirty water makes your mortar take up quicker also with plaster.. 🏴🥃
Pick your panel up fella.. why you at ankle height? Giving me a nosebleed watching this
I don’t why RUclips recommended this but here I am
So why are you on trending?
Cos your a cock and hes teaching people
It’s gobbo or mortar, muck is what a farmer spreads on his field, you been watching to much American telly Fella!
I’m from the south east of England and I’ve only ever heard brickies say ‘muck’.
Me too
It's always muck
Been laying bricks for 40years from London. Always muck
In U.S. we call mortar "mud".
Never heard mortar referred to as muck? I can remember it being called that fifty years ago .
What is that high pitched sound in the background? I'm watching on headphones and it's pretty irritating.
Your brain is all over the place.......ant watch any more
Perps shouldn’t run into the bed tho 🙈
How long would you leave it when your using normal cement?
