This is the type of teacher people need. Very clear, very simplistic, no beating around the bush. To the point.
Why are you copying and pasting this comment onto multiple videos?
Great video! But did anyone else try to use the white triangle on the wall behind him as a "play" button?
Top man, Rodian. Love the "realness" of your video's. This is what apprentices need to see....REAL LIFE......wet bricks, damp, shitty cold weather....the lot! Learn how to deal with the arse end of the trade as well as the lovely sunny weather money making end! Have a great Christmas with the family, bud. 🍺🍺👍
I don't want to show only the good things because like you say, it's not real life. It's not all sunshine and rainbows but we love it 😁👍🏻🧱
Can’t wait to go to collage and learn bricklaying I’ve been watching your videos and you have some good tips.
Glad to be of some help and good luck with your college course 😁👍🏻🧱
Your a natural tutor Rodian . 👌🏼.
Those BOE cappings are rock hard to get right . Still loving the play button back drop it looks very cool .
As for the outtakes ..... love em , especially where your shouting at the sky like a mad man 🤬🤬✈️🖕😂😂🎅🏽🎄🧱👍🏽
🤣🤣🤣 I feel like all I do is shout at the airplanes
Rodian Builds 🤬😂😂🧱👍🏽
Hi Rodian, good videos mate just a little experience I had laying piers in winter/cold conditions, seems like those first three bricks on the bottom were soaking wet compared to the upper three courses so I found if they wet they’ll seep and leak for days till the weather dries up, also i found if the actual mortar has been mixed with really wet sand you won’t be needing to add any water to your mix what so ever just let it mix in the mixer dry, be patient and the wet sand will bring the mortar to the correct consistency you require depends on what mortar you using. Eg sand/cement or sand/lime and yes a small neat cap full of Feb should be all required to give you the fluffy mix if the sand was wet initially, but I find if you know you’ll be laying those bricks in cold/wet conditions it’s always best to ensure the brick you using are kept bone dry, the night before any wet/damp ones should be either left well alone altogether or brought indoors and heated up to dry out before using. Hope this helps your seeping mortar issues
Born to teach. Your humanity comes across, which helps motivate the learner. Easy to follow and enjoyable to listen to. Please continue teaching your trade. Many thanks from across the pond.
Thanks for showing this video even w/ the turnout. It shows realistic results.
You could always take the easy way out too and just use a pillar capping stone for the top of your pillar if one desired.
Great video mate. Well done. 👍👍
Thanks for the awesome videos man. Built my first one and a quarter brick pier yesterday after watching this. I was advised to keep my bricks in a bucket of water. What do you think about this? Do you wet your bricks before using? Cheers.
Yeah
dont be hard on yourself you are a very skilled builder!
Its so funny when you start giving out about the planes 😂😂😂 love the videos mate
Hi Rodian ,
Thanks very much for this video and all the other great and helpful videos you have made.
As a suggestion for a future video would you be kind enough to make one about setting up string lines for brick-specials. In particular AN 6.1 brick specials, as I intend to use these as capping bricks to finish off a brick wall I am in the process of making.
Best wishes,
Paul.
Nice work. Can’t imagine hanging a heavy gate off such a skinny pillar unless it’s got some substantial reinforcing in the centre, tied into the founds.
A better presentation video with some more details for a beginners.
I love your English accent too.
🙂
Rodain have you shown filling the brick pier with support to enable supporting a fence on any of your videos? Cheers
Awesome video made your channel is so good for daily learning it's been helping at lot at work!
hi rodian. happy new year pal to you and yours. hoping you have a great year
Merci for the video Monsieur Rodian..
Keep up the good work brother!
If you put Feb in lime mortar it reduces capillarity so you may as well use white cement. What you could do is try quicklime at 1:3. Very workable because of the high free lime content and very porous. But you have to wait a while for it to gain strength if you want to hang a gate. If you want that colour - and also the strength - best stick to white cement with Feb Bond or any other plasticiser.
Should I let the 1st row harden before I start the next rows so it doesn't move and gives a solid reference for the rest of the stack?
Nice one chap, Thanks. Am assuming that the diagonal check for square can only be accurate if the bricks/perp joints are exactly the same length?
Great video, what concrete did you use?
I once had the same problem with no suction and the mortar weeping. I thought it was the salt in the bricks. I had to wait ages before I could point. It was a right pain. Cheap bricks maybe. But it was in the cold weather. Would be interesting to find out what it was so it doesn’t happen again
Thank you for sharing.
Good man🕌
Do you have a video showing how to build a concrete foundation for brick pillars?
Nice.👍👍 I would like to see you do the wall with the rolling rowlock
Lime doesnt like to be less than 5 degrees. It would be different if you were inside and it never froze lol
Cover brick in tar pooling bags? Only thing I could think of? Great videos merry Christmas!🎄
Awesome, thanks for the help mate!
Can you do a vid of the other 2 ways you can do the top bricks
They're on the way buddy 🧱👍🏻😁
Another great vid.
Think you should give it ago again with tile crease 😉👌👍🏻
"...A 50 Brick pier!...
er, well that would be a house so...."
EXACTLY! Genius :P
🤣
Thanks mate....God Bless.
🙏😎🙏
Hi Rodian, another good video mate cheers! Question: the muck seems yellow colour, what is the ratio you use? I am a novice at this but picking up lots, so would appreciate your help, hope you and the Mrs are OK during this lockdown and keeping safe
What type of mortar is that. I live in a US and tuck pointing my 1860s home and the color looks the same
l wonder if you can help.l use a mix of 5 to 1 with a concentrated plastersizer 5-10ml in builders size bucket of water.l lay my bed of muck, lay the first brick only to find as l lay the next brick the muck is already going stiff.l have tried using fresh bag of cement and fresh building sand and different strengths of plastersizer.l look forward to your hear your thoughts
Like you said probably the sand melting after the frost seen that happen to me.
Hi mate the bricks look like Leicester red stock if this helps
Some people put linseed oil in the lime mortar to stop run off haven't tried it so don't no what it does minght make it worse lol merry Christmas mate 👍👍👍
I'll give the oil a go, tha is for the tip buddy 🧱👍🏻😁
@@RodianBuilds nice let me no if it works or fails 👍👍👍
Will do buddy 😁👍🏻
What do you use for mix when teaching?
Get anglian beacon sahara brick they will always stay dry when laying
Hi m8 great video but iv always thought a brick half pillar is classed as 330mm in reality (327.5mm) and you say 320 and diagonal would be 453mm so that would still be 3 mm out just saying 😊
Can these same dimensions be done in block, if so how, thanks?
Thanks. How deep should you dig for a 2m high 2 brick pillar?
Have you ever built one using profiles?
I have indeed, many times......until my Blake profiles got stolen from my van 😭😭😭
lot of work
I’m an apprentice n the muck at college is literally 7-8 n 1 with lbc’s no problems plenty feb tho
8 total or 8 cement and then 8 again?
@@Joe-fw7dq 7or 8 sand 1 lime
Are you soaking the bricks just before laying them? They look to be too wet. I'd soak them the day before and let them sit overnight. Another thing I thought of as well is your lime mortar that you use in your tutorials. You can scoop that up after your videos and throw it in a bucket with a lid and cover the muck with a small amount of water and it will keep indefinitely. That way you can use it over and over saving you some coin. You'll have to knock it up if you let it sit for awhile, but you'll have some nice creamy muck.
I wasnt soaking them. I think it was because it was cold and they had some condensation on them
The brand london bricks are decent
You make a nice square but forget to level it after you move the bricks.
Build in las Vegas mate
If the brick cap pisses you off too much you can always use a formed concrete capstone haha.
My old college tutor advised us to build piers without buttering the perp joints as we lay as to not push the other bricks out of plumb and fill the joints in as you go or with a tuck pointer at the end...just wondering what anyone’s opinion/view on this would be ? Am only 17 so just trying to learn the trade correctly 👍🏻
I haven't ever built a pier in that way but I have seen it being done. I personally dont like doing it that way because it would take ages to tuck the much in after. Once you've built a few piers you'll get used to how to plumb them up guttering the bricks as you go
Ashley Thomas, what your tutor advised is best especially when building something like a pier, lay the bricks around one course then fill the perps before laying the next course. Good look with your brickwork
@@johnbower thanks for the advice/response, I’m out of college now doing building work where I can but mostly working as a memorial mason, bricklaying is the goal 🧱I’ll keep in mind your advice if I ever build a pier 👍
I keep pressing the 'play' triangle on the back wall, knowing full well nothing will happen... sigh
Hg Matthews bricks
Look how rounded that trowel is 🤮
Possibly the worst bricky I’ve seen on this channel. No Offence
hes the only bricky on this channel!!
Don't see you putting up any videos why don't u just move on
Built a house by himself, Cant be that bad. Hes also honest by showing his mistakes, also asks for advice. Nobody is perfect and in this game your always learning. Why dont you take some of your time out to teach people and see what your cracked upto be. Ive subbed so ill be waiting!
Always some prick in this game talking shit like they are the best bricky ever putting some1 down why don't do 1 u tosser
