I love that War Eagle screamin’ eagle! When the water gets warm I like to burn it as fast as I can and then pause it. Burn, burn, pause! They absolutely annihilate it on the pause or right when you start it up again. I caught a 5 pound largemouth on it last summer and the strike was so violent I’ll never forget it!
Man you and Tyler from TylersReelFishing have taught me a universities worth of knowledge in the past two years. I got out of the AF a few years back and landed in Utah and was having a ton of trouble with my mental health after my deployment and whatnot. The doctor prescribed me some meds and 15 minutes of sunshine per day, it was so embarrassing, I'm only 31. I ended up moving in with a good buddy of mine, and he and I started fishing, I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew I felt like a kid again and was outside more again. Right before he and I moved home to our respective states, mine NC and his KY, I purchased a fishing kayak because I had seen I think you and/or Flukemaster use one. Hated it. Worst experience of my life, buttttttt I did lose a fish on a jig that was large enough to put my fist in its mouth and I was hooked; year 1. Last year in May, I purchased an 80sjon boat with a 9.9 on the back plus a trailer for $750, sold the kayak for $700 and bought a fish finder for $450. It took me the entire summer, no fishing and literal blood, sweat and tears, I sold my lincoln mkz and bought an old hyundai santa fe, but I have a mini bass boat. The learning curve was unbelievable. I didn't get it on the water until Sept and didn't catch many fish until late Oct, but I caught on to a topwater bite and put well over 40 in the boat in a few trips, and caught two spotted bass on one topwater. Then winter hit and it was hella tough. Year 2 is this year, and my first time spring fishing. I was struggling heavily, but on all my rods I had braid, and had to learn how and why to use fluro. Then, all my lures and soft plastics got submerged under water because my storage options... blah, blah, blah. Whole point is, thank you all so much for what you do. Seriously. Saving lives in your own way man. I caught my first fish on a spinnerbait yesterday after making many changes, and I find myself back on your channel for a reliable source for education. Thank you so much, and you are on a short list of people I genuinely want to meet.
You guys are the only ones who share true tricks and secrets. Usually if a video has the same title as this one I don’t watch it because it’s the same videos over and over. Love the content!
Spinnerbaits are absolutely my favorite lure to use. They'll crush a spinnerbait more than anything else I can think of. I still remember SB bites where they damn near ripped the rod out of my hand... great video guys.
Same for me I tore them up last year on my spinenrbaits but also caught a shit ton usin my chatterbaits go get some jack hammers and I sweat their like magic in my ponds I definitely caught more with a spinnerbait last year but got way bigger fish on my chattebaits
I’ll. Have too watch this again. Back in the day. Was the Rollin Martin spinner bait by BlueFox. 😃😃. 80’s. That was a fish catcher. And I’ve still have some.
spinnerbaits are such an involved topic. Everything makes a difference. Hook, wire, quality of blade and bearing are all important factors. I had to make my own before I was satisfied.
Back in the 1990,s, my PB was on a Hank Parker Classic Spinnerbait. He just started making them again. Thanks for the information. It was great videos, as always.
Nichols has been my go-to spinnerbait since the 2000’s. They just flat out work. My PB northern large mouth was just over 7lbs, and it came on a Nichols spinnerbait. Hard to move away from them when my PB is on one. 😂
My biggest bass this year have come on 1 spinnerbait. I’ve got a War Eagle gold wire/ white/chart skirt with a gold top willow blade and a silver lower colorado paired with a pearl white and chart freeloader for a trailer. That spinner bait just has the juice. Last week I caught a 23” largemouth that I believe was post spawn because it only weighed just north of 5lb. Still a giant fish and a lot of fun. Thank you guys for all the info.
Matt I love how in depth you go with these seminar esque vids . I would love to pick your brain on how you’d approach fishing in the northeast where the pressure is heavy & big fish seldom exceed 4-5lbs I know that might be to specific & seasonably based of course but would love to hear your opinion, thanks again as always
I love spinnerbait fishing I can't own enough of them either lol. Do you ever notice you rarely get a soft bite on a spinnerbait or chatterbait they freight them. I fish clear water and it's always a blast to see your spinnerbait get knocked straight sideways
Thanks for the video, love throwing them in the spring time. Have you done a video on tube fishing. Last year I started throwing the stupid tube and had unbelievable success on it. I know you can Texas rig them and of course on a tube jig head with an exposed hook but Tim and you both give other ideas and tips and tricks on everything, just curious on tubes. Thanks and can’t wait for Wednesday’s video.
They call me the spinner bait king down here in michigan!! The spinner bait has been my go to bait for years!! I put a lot of fish in the boat using a spinner bait!! From the bank they work just as well!!
Back in 1990 before I was a teenager the spinner bait was the first lure I ever hooked a 5 lb Bass on. I remember my father and uncle laughing at how big and obnoxious the bait was they would throw beetle spins and catch nice Bass and to me the spinner bait was just a big beetle spin. I still have some old Terminator titanium spinner baits that's over 20 years old I retired them but they still work just as good as the day I got them.
Ive caught some of my biggest bass on spinners. One that is often over looked is the in-line spinner baits. I've caught fish up to 8lbs. on them. Spinners are a fast way to see how active bass are. I have one tied on at all times.
Matt, have you ever tried BFS sized spinnerbaits? The Bomber Mini-Whacker, now discontinued, caught me my first 18" largemouth when I was in middle school living outside of Detroit. They remain an all-time favorite of mine.
Caught my PB over the weekend on a square bill crank. Just at 9 lbs and here in Central Illinois that is a monster. Been fishing this lake my whole life and have only caught a few over 5 lbs. I did have one a number of years back that bent out my hooks that I guessed to be over 8. I was so happy I had some owners on while I was fighting her!
I can't say thank you enough for all the knowledge I have as a result of this channel! Matt, you said you think the willow blade best imitates shad. I'm in MN not much for shad up here. Does you stick with willow blades when you are in bluegill fisheries?
Ok so I was at the lake today and not many people were getting bit on Senko Swimbait cranks but one old man I see at the lake a lot had been getting them and all on the spinner bait I’m not good at that technique so ima have to lock in I’m placing orders today thanks Matt
Awesome video. Where are you at? Looks very South Louisiana-ish where I fish, mud motors , gators, cypress trees. I swear I could almost pin you on a map!
I caught my pb spotted bass last year on a spinner bait and again this year on a spinner bait, last year it was a 2.5lber on a spot remover screamin eagle this year it was a 4lber on a all chartreuse KVD spinnerbait
Great video as usual but I’m confused. A lighter wire will vibrate more and transfer that vibration to the line, but won’t a stiffer wire cause more vibration to be transmitted to the water?
I kept catching about 1 lb bass in a certain area. They were hitting left and right but no big ones. do the big and small ones school together? Or do they stay by themselves?
We haven't found a favorite in their lineup. If you're going in that direction, make sure to check that your bait is running level and not tipped back.
Spinnerbait is in my top 3 March baits for sure. Matt, do you remember the Revenge Deep Runners? I still have and love those things. Now I throw the megabass sv-1 but I do miss the revenge baits!
The other day I was out of some of the parts of the lake that are down and parts of creek channels. The chatterbait was what they wanted. The water was dirty and moving slightly. Black and blue 3/8 with a zako on the back. I was catching them every other cast but all the sudden it stopped. I picked up the spinnerbait and boom it was back on.
For some reason I haven’t spent much time fishing a spinner bait, I thought better late than never so ima give it a shot. I am on a budget though. Should I invest in just one or two of the sv 3’s or get multiple cheaper spinnerbaits, with different colors, weights, etc. Im open to whatever will catch me the most fish.
Spinnerbaits are definately less used these days, but not for me! Got my PB & the only bait i know of that can be fished from just under the surface waked to slow rolled on the bottom & everywhere in between...
I’ve got some Megabass ones, strike king ones, and booyah ones but I’m here to tell you don’t sleep on them $1 ones from the bottom shelf at Walmart. They catch em for sure and if I lose it or mess it up I’m only out a buck.
So a 1/2oz spinner bait is usually at or a little above 20g especially with a trailer which puts it over the 3/4oz lure rating for something like the intenza. Will this negatively affect throwing the spinnerbait at all?
I feel like the spinner bait is making a comeback…I’m in central Pennsylvania no shad here so fish are feeding on crappie and gills and I do really well on a single Colorado blade not just at night either during the day too so for my fishing friends who don’t have shad in your lane maybe give the Colorado spinner bait a throw every now and then
@@jaredb9909I usually run the War eagle double willow in the Golden shiner color. I do still have a lot of luck in non shad lakes with shad colors though. I’ve caught fish on spinnerbaits in sexy shad color imitations, although I think it was the chartreuse that keyed them in
To each their own, but, I've been making and using my own Spinnerbaits for almost 40 years.....well over 400 bass over 5 lbs on them. (regular guy with a 40 hr/week job..retired 3 years ago) I NEVER use one under 3/4 oz, with most being 1.5 to 2.25 oz. 90% of the time, I'm using a Tandem Willow with a #7 or 8 willow, and a # 4 or 5 Colorado for the kicker blade.....OR, I'm using a Double Colorado with a #7 or #8 main blade along with a # 4 or 5 kicker blade. The closer you get your bait to the fish, the more fish you're gonna catch.
Have you listened to Crankbait’s underwater to see which sounds the most like a school of Shad? High pitch, low pitch, single rattle, multiple rattle, silent?
Doesn't matter what forage is in the lake, spinnerbaits work in any body of water...I use skirt colors based on the forage..like Matt, double willows are my main style anywhere I go....I'm no "pro", but have caught more bass on spinnerbaits than any other lure I throw...And I throw ALOT
I experienced the same thing here in South Dakota. It's more about the weather conditions than anything. Once you get that figured out, it will get'em. Good luck, man!
If you are in tanic clear water up north move to gold blades and use a dark jig head and a brown orange chartreuse skirt. Most guys try to throw colors for gin clear lakes. Be prepared for lots of pike too lol
Definitely a confidence thing. I slay in New England. Keep in mind erratic action. add a paddle tail, double pump, kill action, twitch and you’ll get them. 6.5 gear ratio imo.
I’m only using the Megabass sv3 and sometimes the thinner one also from megabass . I had a problem with Sv3 losing the top blade ( 5/6 times ) , did that happen to you guys ?
White booyah with gold willow blade and silver Colorado produces more fish for me than any other hardbait out there. Largemouth, smallmouth and even pike crush this thing
I threw a SB a Gator's face to prove it wasn't a log to a couple of young kids dangling their feet off a pond dock in SC. It took me three cast to piss that Gator off and it snapped at my SB. those kids got their legs up away from the water as their mom yelled oh my G.😮 true story. What really surprised me was there was 3 other Gators rose up after that first made some commotion snapping at my SB. Mom and kids beat it for their car...never to return again?
Could you possibly give the length, power, & action of the G Loomis rods? For some reason we can't see the actual model names (like 844 C MBR) on Tackle Warehouse so it's hard to tell which one you are recommending or what length, power, and action one could try with a different brand.
Yes, that's a 7' Heavy by G Loomis standards, the problem is that MBR action is unlike any other rod anywhere on the market. The tip is lighter than a medium heavy, the butt section is stout.
I could feel that description... those bites are bone jarring!!
I second that, I love burning it in clear water and seeing them boil up then smash it!
Thank you for yesterday's BONUS video!👍🏻🎣🙌🏻

For me 2023 was the Year of Spinnerbait. They outperformed squarebills and Chatterbaits, to my surprise. We will see what 2024 will bring.
Isn't it funny how that can happen?! I saw your other comment... good luck if you get out there after work tomorrow!

I caught some hammers on spinnerbaits this past year. Really gonna put in work with them again this year as well as some bigger baits

What weight do you normally use the most. 1/2or 3/8? If buying a few just go all 1/2. Or get 3/8 also ? Typically I just get 1/2 everything.

Exactly what Matt said. Unique action. Lighter tip, but stout backbone.
@tacticalbassin what legend tournament rod do you use for spinnerbaits?

Hey Matt,
What about the $1.00 spinnerbaits at Walmart 😂
They might break but they'll catch a fish 😅
I miss the original titanium terminator spinner baits with the original head design! I don’t care for the ones now
ALWAYS have a spinnerbait tied on
Agreed!
I did use to like the War Eagle spinnerbaits, until the skirts kept falling off...not real thrilled with that
What gear ratio do you prefer to use for Spinnerbaits?
has anyone ever fished hog farmer spunk shads as a trailer?
