    Great review. I had a scary lockout during FPV flights with both a spektrum and an orange reveiver at the same spot. Luckly I did not lose my plane.

    That's awesome, great to see your results, I use both receivers and have never had any issues. I would love to see the test redone in a open field with no obstacles.

    interesting, I bought a plane that had an orange receiver in it and I took it out and replaced it with the 8000 and telemetry. I have never had a single issue with this receiver. It looks like I could have left the orange comparable of the 7000 series and been fine. Thanks for the info.

    Kind of, It is more of a redundant receiver that helps to maintain signal when the aircraft is in a weird orientation.

  • @semtech30

    Either product has a good signal at .8 of a mile.
    Like you say you couldn't see your plane with the naked eye at that range anyhow.
    Thanks for your effort.

    Interesting. The problem I have found with ORG is the random lock outs at close ranges. Doesn't seem to be range issue but more of consistency of operation. I wont put an ORG in anything again. Too many right offs!

    I recently bought a 9xr w/orangerx module and the r610 rxs. I have had no problems, but I don't fly near those distances with any of my planes. I was curious as to alot of hype and sneersat the so called knock-off brand HobbyKing has, I am very impressed. our vids are very informative and exactly what alot of us in this hobby need. Thanks. P.s. I'm suscribed.

    Hi Lucas. Thanks for your great testing. I have learned something about how these systems operate that I should share with you. Practically every 2.4Ghz system has the same range, give or take. For line of sight fliers range is not an issue as they all fly well within range. What matters is signal reliability which allows you to maintain control of your aircraft. This is enhanced by redundancy such as sattelite receiver antennas. The main receiver polls the antennas for the best/worst signal using the best and avoiding the worst. If you have one antenna and reception degrades then your control is adversely effected. If you also have an added sattelite antenna, it may be receiving the signal much clearer. With more sattelite antennas you decrease the possibility of signal loss. Sattelite antennas will not actually increase range.

    • @wrightbrosrc3433
      @wrightbrosrc3433 10 лет назад +1

      So when you are looking for quality in a multiple antenna 2.4 systems you look at things like how many sattelite antennas can you add and how quickly (in milliseconds I think) the main receiver polls the sattelite antennas during operation. There are other minor considerations but basically if it powers up and functions on the bench, they are otherwise mostly equal in electronics quality. Park flier receivers are full range but have no sattelite ports because the typical park flier is most always in very close range with low possibility of signal degradation.

  • @dwkach

    Dah....range is a function of sensitivity not # of receivers. More receivers means you can catch signals in different orientations easily...

    the main difference in these brands is going to be in their parts, assembly and "quality control " process......both may have similar general range, however the odds of an Orange Rx leaving the factory and sold to the consumer with some type of electronic defect is going to be much higher than a Spektrum ..........

    Satellites are for signal diversity increasing aerial polarity, (A better reception) And does not give you a better range, A better range could be obtained by clear line of sight and a more powerful output from the transmitter, I have had hundreds of the orange receivers never had one problem. Now I'm trying the Lemon rx, give them a go they come from the U,S,A. and are cheaper than the orange rx, Lemonrx.com.
    Cheers Chris U,K.

      As chopperharly . Said, I get fed up of seeing these tests of people expecting more range from the sat receivers, they are just for signal diversity. I'm also convinced that the people who say the orange rx's are crap have either faulty equipment or are simply not binding properly, I've had hundreds of flights using both orange and spektrum receivers and not had any problems. A ground range test in woodland is not anyway accurate.

    • @chrisf5475
      @chrisf5475 9 лет назад +1

      Hi chopperharly - I agree that adding satellites is not for the purpose of greater range, but the result of having better signal at different polarity is a greater 'useful' range. I wont get into figures, but lets just say short and medium. Short range, your signal 'quality' will be good no matter the position of the antenna on your model. Even if your TX is vertical and RX is horizontal, it wont make any difference. At medium range however, somebody may find they are able to fly away from themselves to X distance, then they will loose control when they bank to turn back. So the outer edge of your range is not actually usable. Adding satellites pushes that zone of usable range further. Of course people will then just push that to the limit and still loose a model! I have done similar tests to the one in this video and with all else being identical, adding a couple of satellites gave me an extra few hundred meters before the servo stopped moving.

  • @benjahnz

    I like your presentation style but some quick constructive criticism if I may? All your "tests" really did was show that 2.4GHz only works line of site and can't pass through such things as hills ( or rises in your case). Since this is already common knowledge, your tests were to put it bluntly, a bit of a waste of time. Hey you probably already know this though. Do you have plans for a proper test? Would be interested in the results. Cheers

    • @sam1174

      jimmy jones For a lot of people a glitch doesn't mean a crash. Most flight controllers have glitch protection. On my FCs a glitch would have no effect at all. If the radio loses signal it just automatically returns to the launch point.

    I and a buddy lost 2 planes with Orange RX 610's in them.. My Christen Eagle took off for no reason, i momentarily got it back but then it lost connection again, not in enough time to recover from a (fatal nose dive crash - destroyed ) - I was using a Spektrum DX6i
    My buddy scratch built a sea plane, same kind of RX (Orange RX 610) again, same area, approximately the same distance (roughly 500') and his took off as well, we found it in a tree and was able to get it down.. (he flew it again) after a fresh full battery charge, and lost it yet again and that time not so lucky, found it in a back yard and crumpled up a bit.
    he was using a Spektrum DX8 , two different radios, same Orange RX receivers, approximately the same distance away....
    In both flights, we were having fun for hours, low altitudes, high altitudes, then they just mysteriously let go....... I have several other Planes that have Spektrum receivers, both 4 channels, 6 channels and have no issues.. same distances flying and such.. We have lost trust in Orange RX (Orange RX Sux!)

    • @sam1174
      @sam1174 9 лет назад

      jimmy jones Yeah... no one has ever lost control of a plane with anything other the OrangeRX receivers. Spektrum receivers are perfect and never fail.
      Oh, except for those three times I was flying my hexacopter and it just suddenly flew off into the trees for no reason. I switched to OrangeRX after the last crash and I haven't had a problem since.

    • @michaelperugini4199
      @michaelperugini4199 9 лет назад

      sam1174 Well i have yet to hear one complaint in my fly group about any Spektrum receivers, Now there was some issue with the DX5e transmitter, but those problems were worked out.. if you sent your radio in, they would correct it at no charge. the 5e would drop signal but it was the radio, not the receivers. I Have the 5e, DX6i and the new DX6 and i have NO issues with the spektrum setup.. So i ask you, what radio are you using with the spektrum receivers that you claim caused the hexacopter ?

    Spektrum was trying to dominate the market and hold the rc world hostage by charging exuberant prices. The malarkey that spektrum is more robust,more this and that is poop. After other manufacturers reverse technologyed the spektrum receivers and started producing them just as good as the name brand...surprise,spekteum started dropping the prices on their receivers. It was bound to happen sooner than later. Spektrum tryed crying foul and basically the judgement went the other way,and poor Spektrum lost. So much for the mighty empire. Now there are even knock off chinese Spektrum receivers ( which I have tested to be as good as the original). I havent heard much as far as a lawsuit but if you are willing to commit to buying the black market brand,just dont expect Spektrum to buy you a new plane when yours crashes due to a signal failure,not that Spektrum would,and they have had their share of failed receivers.
