I really liked this video. I bought a spektrum transmitter the later a orange transmitter due to the price. This video made me feel better about the orange and I do like the transmitter very much. Thanks
WOW. I made this video about 11 years ago and have had several more Orange TXs and RXs. They are good. In fact I am using an ORX RX in my latest videos of my home made Aeromaster Bipe, and it works as they all do.. Great. Glad you like yours and happy flying.
Nice and sensible video. Homely is the word that comes to mind, I guess that's because of your voice. I might get one of these orange jobs, seems pretty good for the price!
I just spent HOURS watching your channel. Wasnt feeling well today, but this channel got me to a happy place. Looking forward to this summer of flying a Blade 450 or 500 (up from a CX2 that I love). Thanks for the vids!!!
Very good review. I really appreciated how it was framed in the context of your experience. As a new flyer I've learned that RTF radios are an additional expense for no return. Though I've seen some negative comments on the Orange we have to remember that in Chinese mass produced electronics some bad units can slip through, even when the overall design is favorable. I'm going to grab one and may get a toggle switch with cover to replace the power switch and avoid accidental power off.
Great vid, Dave. And I totally agree on the orange receivers. I have seven of them, and never once have I ever had one fail, even after being in planes that were destroyed by gnarly crashes.
Dave I would just like to say that thanks to you I am flying a 6 ch heli. When I started I I tried to fly a honey bee king 2, you gave great advice (as you always do), you said take a few steps back and then work up to it. I now fly a trex 600 and a blade 500 and a 130x. Thanks Dave!!
Dave, I came across these about a month ago and decided to order one. I told my younger brother and he ordered one. I like Hobby king and there products. These are fantastic transmitters and they have improved the OrangeRx R615 Spektrum/JR DSM2 Compatible 6Ch 2.4Ghz Receiver which now has two antenna. I have parked my Spektrum DX6i for the time being. No problems with either so far. Great video with both past and present RC. I used to race Associated RC car's back in 1978-80. Thanks.
Of course, especially if you have it open. I have had 7 of them now since I made this video 9 years ago. I still like, but with only 6 ch. It limits use. Thanks.
Hi Dave, I totally agree with your opinion on this. I bought one for my 8 year old son and love it. I've made a trainer cable out of an old SVGA lead which connects to my Dx8 without any issues at all. Keep up the passion, Mart.
Looks like a pretty good deal! I have a DX7 and a DX4 that came with my Nano, but I may end up getting one of these for my son. I too have had great luck with the Orange RX, so I wouldn't expect anything less out of a radio they made. Great vid and thanks as always!
awesome radio for the price, I also have good luck with all my orange RX's so far, they are cheap, bind perfectly and do a great job, no range issues whatsoever. Glad they are perfect for you too Dave. If I ever want to buy another TX, this one will be in my thoughts for sure. :-)
Hey Dave, as always nice videos =) I also have my own OrangeTX and have other ones also (Turnigy 9xr and Spectrum DX6i) but cant test either of the other two given this one works so well. I appreciate giving us the time to go thru this tx and showing your pros and cons, they match mine. Great job as always.
Great informative vid... not just an "unboxing" but REALLY thorough w/range check, bindings on multiple brands of receivers, etc. In other words... EVERYTHING we really need to know, and from someone with the experience to really know. Thanks and hope to hear your thoughts on other RC issues!
i had my doubts about this tx but now after this review i look different at it. i hope to hear any problems or good things in the future about this from you. nice vid dave
Great review! Thanks for sharing with us. I always like seeing pics of those old Kraft radios - we had one of those yellow Kraft transmitters in our attic growing up, along with some big planes & gear that never got flown or used. I'm making up for that now (with helis though) :)
Holly Molly. I changed my RUclips user name, and at that time I lost many of the addresses like yours. I am so happy to see you making yourube video's :) GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT EVER YOU ARE DOING BROTHER.....
My first radio was a Kraft radio I bought in 1983 in Memphis Tn while I was stationed in Millington. That radio lasted for more than 15 rc planes and 6 years, till I dropped it down a flight of stairs at MCAS ElToro. Like you I have many radios, 11 and counting.
I was born at the base in rapid city, my dad worked for motorola in the 70's thats how I got involved with rc air craft and in the old days it wasn't easy
Thank you Dave! We are trying to build a 450 on a budget... And although says we should stick to the expensive stuff, we just can't afford it. Thank you for the nice review... We'll drink a beer to your health... Greetings from Mexico... Gracias Amigo. (P.S. We are in FB as Helifan Ensenada)
thanks so much for the good vid. very very cool you got to work on the first transmitters. kinda before my time but i love the big metal box controllers with cool old boards and huge controls in them. great vid
Imptessive tx collection! I have been flying models since 1990, born in 81 and this brings so many good memories! Thanks for the review, I am planning on going back to the hobby and was hesitating with a 9xr. I'll take the t-six! Where do I put my goddamn frequency quartz??? ;)
I am a pretty decent 3D pilot I would say, and I am looking for a radio I can use for anywhere from a Nano CPx to a 700 Nitro. I think I will use my dad's Dx6i for the big helis and the Orange for things like the Nano. The only thing I am worried about is the position of the switches. Especially throttle hold. I will have to have a better look at the radio more later.
As always a very informative video. I was thinking of getting a DX6i but know I think I will get this instead. I have a freind that uses their recievers with his Specktrum radio to fly helis and he swears by them. Thank you sir!!!!
Great review. Can the orangerx transmitter be used with the real flight interlink elite simulator? Would love your input. Cant find information anywhere. Jordan
I would only use DSM2 protocol on small foamies, everything else, warplanes, scale, high end gliders programmed on Futaba FHSS or FASST and nothing else.
Yes, but remember I made this 6 years ago before FHSS or Fasst was readily available. I only use DSMX now, since my orange rxs were destroyed in the fire.
I bought one off ebay from someone that also thought he had mod2. Paid the list price plus $15 ship. Reset the TX to mod2 and tried to switch the tension spring around that does not work only because there's no where to connect the tension spring on the other side. What I did was swap the control around moved the left to right and right to the left side. Then had to use my dremel tool to cut away the plastic on each corner for the control to fit switch back to mod 1 that was it.
Good day Dave,i noticed on your simulator you where flying a quad copter and since i've never seen a sim with quads on them, i was wondering does the Aerofly 5.7 have the quad in it, if not, where can i get one from? Oh, and per usual, Great job always very informative and always look forward to the next vid. Cheers from Australia.
Now you're talking my language Mr Dave sir. I may get into complex stuff at some stage, but my Hitec Optic5 seems fine for now. And I'll learn lots about trimming in the mean time. From what you said, I presume you've used Hitec gear at times, and wanted to add that Hobbyking have just brought out a 2 gram Hitec Minima compatible receiver!
I'm into the simple radios too. I don't need too many options to confuse the flight. I never got to build a heathkit rc, but did study the component one shot type radios before ne5055 came around. I discovered the new radio timing loop is faster then the old loop, can the old kraft kps1411 still work?
I have been unable to find the stick 'switching' menu. could you possibly elaborate. I am new to RC and bought the Mode with the throttle on the right. Don't know why it matters but am willing to change it. Thanks
I thought this review was incredibly helpful. Is there any way you could put together a video of you setting your orange transmitter up to use with aerofly rc7? I've been trying to accomplish this with no success, but yours seems to work very well. I really appreciate it.
I'm new to the hobby and found your review really helpful thanks. I am probably going to choose this as my first transmitter but I was hoping you could tell me what simulation software you use? I'm an electronics engineer too and intend to lose a lot of hours watching the rest of your videos! Thanks.
This is an old video for sure, but yes, it keeps the trim settings and yes there is a port for sims, but the Spektrum wireless dongle makes it more fun as it will bind up to them. Thanks.
Hi. Could you expand a bit on the antena? Mine broke, and when I was trying to replace it found that it did not have a connector but was rather messily soldered to the circuit board and I can"t really make out what goes where. Thanks in advance
Thank you very much for your very informative review.Coming back to the hobby after a 35 year absence it is hard to comprehend the changes, you make that a little easier. Some time has passed since the review, are you still happy with the Orange Tx? All the best.
Would it be very hard to put a variable control on the orange transmitter from Hobby King? I would like to use it to control the position of an FPV camera on my quadcopter.
I have a blade 120 sr, mjx f45 and wl toys v911 and v912. Will this work with them? And if so, do I have to buy anything else to make them fly. Thanks....Russ
I visited the Futaba factory in 1994 which was state of the art at that time (and still would be I guess) and I'm surprised how cheap these things have got. I'm much happier with my Turnigy GTX3 2,4Ghz at 40 USD and I actually threw away my Futuba 3PB 27Mhz that I got for 750 USD back then. I read a lot of reviews on DSMX and DSM2 dropouts, but with FM, dropouts was expected behaviour and if you didn't get one that day it was your lucky day. With just small improvements, mostly in QA and mechanics these things could really put up a fight with JR, Graupner and Futuba. When I grew up HITEC was so bad you would touch it with a stick and today it's view as "branded".
You can always trust our friend Dave Herbert for an honest review . I was going to get a specy 7s but now it will be orange . personally i dont like the clear plastic but for the price you cant complain . I guess it will grow on me and these things look better in hand anyway . i wonder if you can put a cover over the on/off switch ( like the arm button on a fighters joystick ) . hmmm what have you up your sleeve next Dave???? thumbs up as always , Barry ,Scotland
listen to this interesting and sad story night flyyer....Ive had my aerofly pro deluxe for a year and could never get it to work for my mac.....customer support finally told me i need plug 31036.it definitely need must must must have that plug...bought the plug and now I'm flying...i love it..ps can't wait for my super club cub.........great videos.enjoy your orange tx
Yes, the old barracks right beside the chow hall. Open squad bays, the only way to live..lol. Had to keep my planes in the back of my car. I would stay late on nite crew and build my planes on the work bench at the hanger. All my planes had a VMA-214 Blacksheep sticker on them. I even flew my gentle lady glider with a cox 0.49 power pod off the top of the hanger one week end. After a very long talk with the OOD I knew it was not a good idle to try it again....
Dear sir I have one of these orange transmitter and would like to know if it can be used on the planes that have a spektrum receiver built in it like the habu 180 or the new park zone sukhoi 29 mm? Thanks for your videos they have help me a great deal, since I am new to this Rc hobby.
Hey Dave, great video ,without people like you we wouldn't be as advanced as we are now in our hobby , I fly futaba fasst and have some orange recievers and have found them rock solid ,great range also,I would have to mortgage the house to setup all my models with genuine futaba lol. You might be interested to know that banggood has orange T8 transmitters for sale .
So weird that on the forums I've heard so many bad things about these. Now I'm wishing I had seen this before my purchase. At first it was the flysky fst6 which after a lot of research I think I lucked out mine was defective out of the box. Now I have the FLYSKY fsi6. It seems really good. Do you have any knowledge on it???
My orange is great. Never felt so confident. I fly pretty good without those plane crashing brown-outs. Hopefully the connection stays strong. So far a 5 star unit.
Hi there mr herbert,i just wondered if it has the same flaw as the dx7 seems if you let the battery die with the power on ,poof! it erases the entire memory.not just the saved memory ,but the entire memory..that really sucks.
Hey guy I have to re-track my first comment about swapping the control around. After binding to my heli I seen the control were offer in either mod. There is away to move the tension spring. I should have made a video the manual does not show how to do it. There's an arm with a pin in it that has to be taken out the spring is attach to another arm that moves up and down inside the control housing not sure what some of the parts are call you have to look very carefully to see how to take it apart
I really liked this video. I bought a spektrum transmitter the later a orange transmitter due to the price. This video made me feel better about the orange and I do like the transmitter very much. Thanks

This was almost 10 years ago, and these radios are still around and very popular. You will like it. Thanks much and fly easy.
@@NightFlyyer I just got a Flysky FS i6x, it was cheap and it works very well! I can have ten channels on it if I want!
Came for the review, stayed for the transmitter history.Cool video.
I just spent HOURS watching your channel. Wasnt feeling well today, but this channel got me to a happy place. Looking forward to this summer of flying a Blade 450 or 500 (up from a CX2 that I love). Thanks for the vids!!!
Great history lesson, Sir. You've established solid credibility.
pro tip : you can watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching lots of of movies recently.
@Felix Duke yea, been using flixzone} for years myself :)
Thanks for being a generous genius! I learned so much from your experiences. Seriously, I can't find such a knowledgeable guy like you at any field.
Very good review. I really appreciated how it was framed in the context of your experience. As a new flyer I've learned that RTF radios are an additional expense for no return. great video keep us informed this video is from my flying with dad years. it was more than a hobby. it was a gift.
I saw this on hobby king and it sparked my interest. Now you did an awesome review and I am sold on it. Thanks Dave
I have one. Better to check all bad wiring, resolder and hotglued everything before fly. At 7:20, that is what I do.
Of course, especially if you have it open. I have had 7 of them now since I made this video 9 years ago. I still like, but with only 6 ch. It limits use. Thanks.
Thanks for the review. I was not sure I wanted to buy this transmitter... but now I am sold! Thanks again.
I have built some trust in the Orange Receivers as well. I always enjoy your videos. Been following your videos fro about 6 months now.
Hi Dave, I totally agree with your opinion on this. I bought one for my 8 year old son and love it. I've made a trainer cable out of an old SVGA lead which connects to my Dx8 without any issues at all. Keep up the passion, Mart.

i had my doubts about this tx but now after this review i look different at it. i hope to hear any problems or good things in the future about this from you. nice vid dave
Hay thank you for the honest review! Its nice to hear some one in our hobby that isn't boastful or cocky when doing these sort of videos. :)
Great review! Thanks for sharing with us. I always like seeing pics of those old Kraft radios - we had one of those yellow Kraft transmitters in our attic growing up, along with some big planes & gear that never got flown or used. I'm making up for that now (with helis though) :)
i just like hearing Dave talk. Such a soothing voice:) Do more reviews DH!
Thanks Mr Herbert! I am new to the hobby and wanted to purchase a good 6 channel transmitter you just made up my mind thanks!
Oh the memories KRAFT radios ? I remember those don't have one anymore but i do have the old gold box Futaba's
THANKS for the flashback
if its good enough for Dave Herbert, its good enough for me. Thanks NF.
Holly Molly. I changed my RUclips user name, and at that time I lost many of the addresses like yours. I am so happy to see you making yourube video's :) GOOD LUCK WITH WHAT EVER YOU ARE DOING BROTHER.....

Great review, I've been using the OrangeTX for a year. This is a really good TX at a great price.
I'm sold. after taking a long look (at least a few weeks), i've changed my mind from the trans Q x7 to orangerx.
great review & *awesome* history lesson as well :)
Thank you for the fine videos. It really helps in bringing us beginners up to speed.
I was born at the base in rapid city, my dad worked for motorola in the 70's thats how I got involved with rc air craft and in the old days it wasn't easy
Thank you Dave!

Hope you see this. Question. Would it be possible to build the bat from rises ? That bat at 1:40 looked great.
Hello NightFlyer the folks at hobbyking were able to help with the problem I was having. Trans is up and running. Thank you for your help
U r an inspiration. Thanks for sharing. All the best.
thanks so much for the good vid. very very cool you got to work on the first transmitters. kinda before my time but i love the big metal box controllers with cool old boards and huge controls in them. great vid
Thank you for the informative review, I'm off to buy one (or maybe four) ;)
Imptessive tx collection! I have been flying models since 1990, born in 81 and this brings so many good memories! Thanks for the review, I am planning on going back to the hobby and was hesitating with a 9xr. I'll take the t-six! Where do I put my goddamn frequency quartz??? ;)
Sioux Falls caught my attention! i live about 120 miles away, i'm wondering what flying events go on there
Dave, what was the thing about "open gimbals" ? Besides letting dust into the transmitter, what was the deal?
Nice to hear a real review of the Orange trans (I have been thinking about getting one rather than the much more expensive futaba's)
Great review, Dave. What are you going to do with 4 of the same transmitter?
Also, could you do a review on the Hubsan X4 at some point? Thanks.
Hi Dave thanks for the video, would you by chance know which radios support DSMX protocol?
Great review, I have the same, how did you get it to work with your sim?? Cable?? I am getting a Phoenix sim.
Dave did I see you flying a Blade heli with the Orang TX? You can bind blade helis to the Orange TX's ?
Love your review Mr Herbert, exactly what i needed to know! I'm going to try and get one to work with the Tamiya MFC-03 from their 1/14 Tractor Trucks
Great review thank you I was thinking of getting the 8ch for my quad and for the price I think Iam going to go for it! Thanks again
i never knew you did such great work for kraft, dave.
I was gonna ask the same question. Hey Dave how did you get the Wii Quadcopter in Aerofly 5.7?
Great review.
Can the orangerx transmitter be used with the real flight interlink elite simulator?
Would love your input.
Cant find information anywhere.
Jordan
thank you for doing this video it is nice to know about good products from someone trustworthy A+
Dave have you considered putting a Hobby King Orange DIY module into one of your old radios?
Nice video and by you explaining your background in radios it gives what you say more credence. How does a Turnigy 9XR stack up do you think?
I would only use DSM2 protocol on small foamies, everything else, warplanes, scale, high end gliders programmed on Futaba FHSS or FASST and nothing else.
Yes, but remember I made this 6 years ago before FHSS or Fasst was readily available. I only use DSMX now, since my orange rxs were destroyed in the fire.
Well its been a few months how are you liking the transmitters so far

Thank you for your passion and innovation. Enjoyed your video allot.

Thnak you so much.
As always, great stuff. Thank you. We learn thourgh others, like you.
Wow Kraft !...Are they still around?
I have been unable to find the stick 'switching' menu. could you possibly elaborate. I am new to RC and bought the Mode with the throttle on the right. Don't know why it matters but am willing to change it.
Thanks
To cool I used your dual rate article on my Kraft radio in the day. thanks.
insightful video, great conversational style. thank you!!
Can the Orange Tx be used with quadcopters that have a DJI Naza controller ? Also are there 7 channel Orange Rx's. Thank You

Nice..Is there a port for flight sim for this? and does it keep the trim settings after turning of tx?
This is an old video for sure, but yes, it keeps the trim settings and yes there is a port for sims, but the Spektrum wireless dongle makes it more fun as it will bind up to them. Thanks.

Hey Dave, great video ,without people like you we wouldn't be as advanced as we are now in our hobby , I fly futaba fasst and have some orange recievers and have found them rock solid ,great range also,I would have to mortgage the house to setup all my models with genuine futaba lol.

So weird that on the forums I've heard so many bad things about these. Now I'm wishing I had seen this before my purchase. At first it was the flysky fst6 which after a lot of research I think I lucked out mine was defective out of the box. Now I have the FLYSKY fsi6. It seems really good. Do you have any knowledge on it???
great review with ur exp forms an opinion i can trust thanks mr hebert
Is this good for helicopters? And how similar to the Dx6i is this?
My orange is great. Never felt so confident. I fly pretty good without those plane crashing brown-outs. Hopefully the connection stays strong. So far a 5 star unit.
How did you connect the orangerx TX to your simulator, Im using RealFlight .65
