My dad then revealed that he had been at school with William Hammond as he was known then. My dad had kept in touch with Larry over the years and visited him when he was in hospital just before he died. R.I.P. Larry.
At the height of his career I didn’t really appreciate his style or his comic genius. Now 40 years later, I search RUclips looking for him and loving everything he does…..
5 days until my 48th Birthday. Never before have I felt so aware that just about everybody from my childhood/early youth is dead. It's not a pleasant feeling. I would love to jump in a time machine and have another chance to experience it all again.
What a lovely man Larry was. Nobody had a bad word to say about him ever and he was always genuinely appreciative of his fame. He had the ability to make you laugh before he even spoke a word. I absolutely love him and wish I could have met him. X

What a wonderfully sincere human-being Larry truly was. If everyone demonstrated this mans' genuine love, empathy and time for others, the World would be a much better place. A true 'old skool' entertainer that would get laughs and love in equal measure, just by his look. It is an honour to live in this guys' home town of Nuneaton.

Me and my late mum Maisie got to know Larry when we were on the Generation Game in 1977 and my mum was nicknamed mucky Maisie because one of the games was very messy with thick glue. Mum created such laughter that she appeared on two other shows and in later years when Larry was at the Alhambra in Bradford we saw him and went to an after party at a friends bungalow. R I P Larry Love Hayden and the late Maisie. xxx

I saw a clip on The Generation Game, think it was a Christmas show that mentioned Mucky Maisie, with the glue, from Leeds. She's stuck up there! That certainly made me laugh. I can't claim to have seen that glue game show but it's about time we had more repeats of his Generation Game. My best wishes

I have fuzzy memories of Larry on TV. I loved watching him. He was witty n quick minded. A true talent n lovely human being, that is self evident. An English legend.

I'm a nurse and worked on the ward where his friend Dorothy Squires was admitted. (Although she was there as Dorothy Moore as she said that she didn't want to draw attention to herself...) But then sat in the bed with the curtains partly drawn either side of her, a face full of make-up and a big (and I mean BIG) red bow in her hair! Sadly, she deteriorated and passed away a while later. But while she was there, her ex-husband Roger Moore telephoned to inquire how she was...

So proud to be from Atherstone, near Nuneaton, where Larry lived. He always used to mention Nuneaton and Bedworth in his television sketches, and never lost his common touch. Such a lovely, genuine, man. XX
He was a genuine down to earth person and did a lot for local charities around Nuneaton. He was also well loved by local people as he always had time to chat.
I never thought this upload would be so loved? Larry was like Gracie Fields, a person who was humble real and came from a poor background. He was friendly with Dorothy Squires too so in my book he had great taste. I have written many blogs about various people, and Larry will be my next one. Thank you all for such lovely comments they prove how much Larry was and is loved.
Dorothy Squires was from Llanelli, and was married to Roger Moore. More accurately, Moore was married to her. In fact, it was she who opened many doors for Moore as she was a huge Star at the time of their marriage. Without her assistance, who knows how far Moore would have got in the world of show business.
Larry was a very well remembered man from my childhood.. Loved the man. Was an amazing tour de force.. Such a shame it came so late.. But we have some awesome TV still.. And a record of a beautiful hearted man.
I used to hate “This Is Your Life” growing up as a kid, but watching this now is a treat. Having seen Jerry Springer and Jeremy Kyle using ordinary ppl on TV to mock them and make them act to the worst stereotypes, this show has a myriad of normal members of the public who each contributed positively towards the life of a much loved TV star, and each accorded dignity and honour for the warm, positive influence they provided. It also shows the positive power of community in bringing forth the best from folks, encouraging and building each other up! In this era of social media and reality tv, we should appreciate shows like this and this demand better and more supportive media, instead of degrading sensationalist trash - where ordinary folks appear on TV to be mocked and treated worse than zoo animals. This upload shows how much richer we could be and lift our spirits by valuing and honouring eachother and our contributions
I first saw Larry when I was a young child, watching The Generation Game, and always found him very funny then, and of course, I still do. They don't make many like him any more 'in the business' - a kind, warm , sensitive, naturally gifted, and 100% genuine gentle man. You can tell what these people felt about him and what his feelings were for them, by their big bear hugs when they came on. A much missed entertainer.
I'm thoroughly enjoying all the This Is Your Life downloads. And I've watched many. But Mr Grayson, thus far, is the only person I've seen stand up for every surprise guest. That is testament to his personality. RIP LARRY GRAYSON

Lovely, a talent that was based on warmth and genuine interest in folk. Mr.Grayson could reduce you to tears of laughter with just a look and a cheeky innuendo, and he never relied on torrents of embarrassing and unnecessary foul language. Thank you for the wonderful post.
It is so emotional at the end when he starts to cry over the closing music. All those years of struggle but all the love that surrounded and supported him. It really is beautiful to watch.
I saw on a documentary that even at the hight of his fame during the Generation Game days,he never hung around after filming. He always went back to Nuneaton for a Saturday night drink at the local Rugby Club's bar where he knew everybody and everybody knew him. A friend of mine who was a big fan (and still is by the way!) met him not long before he died when he was opening a fete in Torquay. Glad to report he was as kind, charming, and natural as he always appeared to be on television. Hysterically funny man and wonderful, gentle human being.

I think that story about being bombed during the war made people of that generation grounded , genuine and gave them a real perspective of what's important in life . ......Being between Leicester, Coventry and Birmingham , our town apparently, took quite a few hits from the Luftwaffe

All the comedy greats I grew up watching as a kid are gone, Bob Monkhouse included.
I remember watching Larry Grayson on the Generation game with my Nan on holidays in the late 70s early 80s.

I think that story about being bombed during the war made people of that generation grounded , genuine and gave them a real perspective of what's important in life . ......Being between Leicester, Coventry and Birmingham , our town apparently, took quite a few hits from the Luftwaffe
