- If you're looking to remove the pesky Fiesta ST front license plate bracket, this video will show you how to do it.
Unfortunately, on the Ford Fiesta ST it seems that no matter how much you stress to the dealership that you don't want the front license plate installed, even during a special order, the car will arrive with it on.
See, apparently the front license plate is installed either at the factory or the rail yard. I'm friends with the owners of the dealership I ordered the car from. They were trying to make sure this special order Fiesta ST arrived with no front plate. This car is being built as a show car (See #RallyFist on Instagram) and thus the front plate is not part of the look of the build. Even though they tried very hard, they eventually got a message straight from the department they order from that the car would arrive with the front license plate bracket installed already.
The Ford Fiesta ST front license plate mount is installed onto the front bumper, not with the usual screws, but with very thick 1/4" rivets. That's pretty awful because it means the holes are really big.
The method shown in this video is a good way to take them off without damaging the bumper or paint. Then, you can plug them with plastic plugs from Home Depot or something. I actually had some black Miata interior trim plastic plugs that I painted white and used to cover the holes.

I drilled 2016 Ford Fusion front plate out with a 1/4 bit right up to before the head came off then popped it off with a screwdriver to avoid gouging the bumper. Two small holes on the dark grey bumper look way cleaner than the ridiculous front plate. Thanks for the tip
Just got me a new Chevy Colorado with the same ugly mount on the front bumper. Didn't want to have to use the drill but after watching several videos it seems to be the only way. Thanks for showing me how!
Welcome. Hope you got it done. These rivets are all made of aluminum, so they are super soft and easy to cut through. Super easy.
My buddy has an Evo X and another has a Sonata both with no license plates and never been given any trouble because of it, also when I had my SAAB. So as soon as I can I will probably drill mine out and put a COBB license plate cover thingy. Also, I'm LA
+Frankie Nery Yeah, it really depends I guess. I heard places like Texas as super non-tolerant about it. Also, some small towns in California in the central coast area. But in San Diego I haven't been hassled about it. It's at least one good thing about California... in just about everything, stuff is always too harsh and regulated here.
We drove over 400 miles (to a state without front plates) just to get a car without that damn front bracket. I have the bracket on my truck though as I bought it used. Now I have to take the damn thing off.
+Edward Swanson Hah. Well done. You did much better than I did then!
I ended up using a spade bit to do this and the self-feeding thread tip did the trick in a matter of minutes.
Oh yeah, I'm sure that's probably easier.

Like a charm buddy much appreciated.
Great! Glad this helped!
I'm looking at a Mustang right now and it's perfect except it has the front license holder on it. A lot of places I know don't even have the front plates but every car at this dealership does. They won't take it off cause they say it's against the law but I guess for a deal like this i'll just have to deal with 2 holes in my bumper.
Same thing we me. I ordered this car November 2014 and I had to wait 4 months to get it. I wasn't going to turn it down because of the stupid plate. I did think about it though. Haha.
I have fusion trying to get the plate off I dud this same process except the rivit is now spinning....
Thanks! I just bought a new 2018 Fiesta and I want that fucking thing off my car!
Thank you. I just hacked that atrocious license plate holder off.
Welcome!
where can you find the plugs to plug the holes??
fondoo AutoZone should have them
If you want basic ones that you'll paint yourself, search for 'Dorman 799-135' plugs, should run you about $6. If you want ones pre-painted, then add $20 to that and try here: www.modbargains.com/Painted_Bumper_Plugs_Ford-Fiesta.htm
Just got mine from BumperPlugs.com. You can purchase them to match your car's paint. It is not cheap, but it is worth every penny......
How did you plug the holes?
I think I used some little plug inserts from Home Depot. I painted them white if I recall correctly. Oh, actually, that was much later. The car got wrapped for SEMA, so they were just covered with the wrap for a while.
Front license plate is the worst thing they did to cars.
You can get a front license plate delete which is common on subarus. There usually universal and you can have whatever you want labeled on it as well such as Fiesta or a performance brand. Better than holes or rivets when looking closely. You can even build your own in whatever length, height, etc.
You can. But on Subbies I believe the holes have threads in them to screw the license plate delete into. The hold on the Fiesta ST are just for the rivets and the rivets are their to hold the bracket, and then the license plate screws into the bracket. One might be able to perhaps thread the inside of the rivets and screw the license plate delete into that. But I'm not sure.
I would also say you can get a graphic plate. The ones that have sport team symbols, vehicle manufacturer, etc but it will still block the grill like the mounting bracket did.
where does the rivet fall
The rivet just falls behind the bumper. It's open back there, so it either falls to the ground or you can reach in and fish for it. It wasn't a problem.
lol better title would be learning how rivots works
My dealer was smart enough not to drill holes into my bumper. Phew!
it's not done at the dealer. its done at the factory.
Then I better thank the factory!
Actually, I think it's done at the railyard, in other words, distribution. But I could be wrong.
Will the holes rust if not plugged ?
no its plastic......
Lol bro.. almost all bumpers on modern cards are plastic. Very few are metal. So no, it won't rust.
IF YOU OR ANYBODY WATCHING STILL HAS THEIR BRACKET I NEED IT IN N.Y. MY DEALER GAVE ME THE WRONG ONE
Bro that's literally something your dealer is legally obligated to correct without fee. Hope you ended up figuring that out.
