This clown could not be more wrong. I will address his genius points 1: Theft - what thieves would drive around in a stolen vehicle with stolen plates? It’s 30 seconds with a screw driver and then they become invisible by taking the plates off. 2: Safety - as the news anchor mentioned, the retro and temporary plates are not reflective. In fact the entire car should be reflective to a degree, but it’s not illegal to get a matte paint job. 3: Other states have front plate laws - this is not an argument. Almost half of the states don’t require it. Of those that do, many do not even consider it a primary offense, so you cannot get pulled over for it. The real reason, is MONEY. Traffic cameras and laser speed guns need the front plate to issue tickets when you are going 5 mph over the 55mph speedzone. They also can issue fix it tickets that are $100-$200 each. It is not required to actually install the plate. You can IGNORE the ticket and just pay the fine. Or, you can attach it temporarily, get the fine reduced to $20, and take it off immediately. It is literally a tax for rich people that just want to avoid drilling holes in their $80k car.
I was literally going to say every single point you made, so "DITTO", right on bro! I'm so sick of listening to mouthpieces of the Police who talk this crap! It's all about the Police being able to quickly identify you in any situation for tickets, whether that be an actual policeman or a red light camera. I remember living in BC years ago when they have speed cameras on the side of the road and for a number of years I sprayed my plates with a "REFLECTIVE" coating to cause the cameras flash to over-expose the picture so it wouldn't read the plate, this cop even got that wrong by saying the spray is a "non-reflective" coating...LOL! What a schmuck! Another cop who doesn't even know what's up! Geeezzzz
I told my dealer to not drill the front license plate on my car and he was chill about it. He Just said not to snitch him out if I got pulled over. Still driving with no front plate today. I rather pay the ticket.
Same here. My Porsche dealer just has clients sign a form stating the buyer does not want a plate, and that’s it. I will never put a front plate on my GT3. If I get a fix-it ticket for a front plate I have a temporary solution with a Rennline mount that attaches to the front tow hook spot so I can get the ticket signed off at the police station and then take it off with no trace later that day.
And yet somehow close to 20% of all the cars I see on the road are missing their front plates... It seems like ever since COVID, the cops don't care about small infractions anymore.
I remember some years ago. The license plates were fading or peeling very quickly. When the state checked into it. It turned out that the guy in charge with painting the license plates had finally finished his prison time. The prisoner that took over was doing something different so the paint wasn’t lasting very long. But modern paint is crap compared to old paint. For your house and car.

You guys should ask the Blue line gang members if they have front license plates on their own privately owned vehicles. If not, do they think they're above the law and that law doesn't apply to them.
There are also lots of people in California who have used sandpaper and removed most of the reflective surface on their plates, making them difficult to see.
Police officer is incorrect @4:20, because in 2020 Ohio dropped the front license plate requirement. So now 29 states require both license plates, while 21 states only require a rear license plate.
California is more concerned with extracting as much money as they can from its residents. Fuqn place has become borderline inhabitable, and they're focused on what they can fine you for.
I worked on wind tunnel testing for 2 years. Front license plates can cause, for some cars, as much as 5% more gasoline useage at freeway speeds. This leads to more gasoline used or more electricity used for the car and is bad for the environment. Why does a state like California that cares so much about the environment still put a front license plate on all cars causing millions of gallons of extra gasoline to be burned every year? It would be a lot better for the environment if California follow the lead of most states and no longer require a front license plate.
You don’t see the license plate from the front, you see the license plates from the rear. Most parking stalls are accessed with the front aiming into a stall, so,to locate a vehicle, you locate the vehicle by the rear plate.
Personalized plates, specialty plates and disabled plates belong to whom they are issued. Also, YOM (year of manufacture) plates which are popular amongst classic car and truck enthusiasts are the sole property of the owner and no longer the state's. CA DMV has a whole separate office and program that supports the YOM plate titling and registration process. I helped my Dad get a set for and get registered to his 1930 Ford Model A.
I had a 2013 Ford Raptor for 10 yrs with no front plate. Only time I got a ticket was when it was parked on the street in front my house. It was considered a fix it ticket so my neighbors son is a CHP, so I asked to sign off the ticket so I could mail it in to prove it had been taken care of. The CHP said don't put it back on, Corvettes, Cameros and high end sports cars never have them. So I did what he said and never got another ticket.

Like tinted windows, this isn’t usually something you’d get pulled over for. If you get pulled over for speeding or something else, then they may issue you a fix it ticket for a missing front license plate. I’ve never had one on any of my cars, then I got a new car many years ago and just left it one. Then someone backed into my car while parked and broke the bracket and I just left it off. Never had an issue with police and have pulled up behind many.
It took DMV more than a month to issue me my new vehicle licenses. The paperwork issued as temporary and expired three months after my purchase. If it’s a legal issue, the dealership should be obligated under law to make sure the vehicle is legal to drive on the road before it leaves the lot.
My wife’s ‘98 Camaro Z-28 has never had a front license plate since she drove it off the dealership new. There were two occasions where I was ticketed for not having a front plate. One on the 2010 HHR SS and the other my 1971 Datsun 240Z. In both instances many years ago, the cars were ticketed while parked at a Park-n-Ride. The cars were backed into their spaces. My SS was parked next to a Vette. But the Vette was pulled in. So the meter maid didn’t notice it too had no front plate. No other instance on the road was I pulled over or stopped for not having a plate. Which tells me the CHP and cops are LAZY and won’t pull you over. But a meter maid with a quota and nothing better to do will ticket you. Park-n-Rides are notorious for these types of tickets. Pull in, don’t back in!
On an NSX I had, i did not want an ugly license plate mount attached to my front bumper, so I bent the top portion of the plate at a 90 degree angle and screwed it to the bumper in the grille opening from underneath. Def wasn't legal because you couldn't see the California part anymore but you could still see the numbers. Never had a problem with it. On my Honda Pilot I have now, my front bumper has an optional bumper trim that was sold by Honda. The license plate mount fell off, and because my vehicle has that factory bumper trim, it uses a different mount that is different from all other Pilots that dont have that trim. That license plate mount has long been discontinued by Honda so I cannot find it anywhere, not even online. I'm not about to drill holes on my bumper just to attach a license plate so I've left it as is for the past 3-4 yrs and I havent been pulled over.

You know, I love how all of these people are sitting up there on their high horses all smug and arrogant with that big chip on their shoulders going, "Oh, I've been driving in California for XXX years without a front license plate, and I've never been stopped!!!" What's your point? Do you think that the fact that you've been getting away with it for whatever period of time you have means that somehow you are not in violation of the law? WRONG!!!! You ARE in violation of the law; I don't give a s**t if you've been doing it for 100 years, and Section 5200 of the California Vehicle Code does'nt care either!!! The law is the law!!!! The fact that you have'nt been cited for it as yet DOES NOT exempt you from full compliance with the law!!! And I get that some of you may not like that law; fine. Lobby your state representatives to have it changed. But until such time as they do, and those changes are signed into law by the Governor, you must comply if you want to drive in California!!! Use your heads!!!!
In CA a new law bans trivial tows and “pretextual vehicle stops,” or stops that are used as an investigative tool for something completely unrelated to the actual reason for a driver was pulled over. So an expired plate or tail light out or missing front plate cannot be used. This law was passed because people were losing their cars to the tow companies resulting in armed confrontations with police abd towers.
It feels like they’re announcing this as a new law people are confused about when this is literally been the rule in CA for at least 64 years, possibly 88 (depending on which vehicle code you look at). There has to be better stuff to fill the time with than this!
Dude i have been noticing so many cars without front license plates. In a simple 10 minute drive i spot nearly 10 on average. It kinda bugs me...only cuz i want to do it
If your vehicle is registered in another state, then you are required to obey the registration laws of whatever state your vehicle is registered in. If those laws conflict with California's, then there's nothing that California can do about it; the issuing state's laws take precedence. However, remember that if you move to California from another state, and you're not simply passing through or vacationing in California, the law states that you must reregister your vehicle in California within 20 days of establishing residence and/or securing employment within the state.
What a bunch of propaganda. If front license plates aren't necessary in some states, they aren't necessary in any state. I love how he tries to sell the benefits to YOU. It can help recover your car! It can help us find your vehicle that has gone off the road into a ditch or lake! But that's not all! It's just like car window tinting. If it's legal in one state, it should be legal in ALL states. They want you not to have window tinting so they can look into your car and see what you're doing. They might as well tell you that you can't have curtains on your home's windows. That would allow them to stop more crime, too. They want the front tag on your car because it helps with traffic cameras and speed detection. They also have scanners on the many cop cars (and stationary, too, I imagine) that scan and run thousands of plates as they drive around. How do I know that? I bought a used car from a guy from Florida. When he moved to California, he got two plates, but there was not a place to mount the front plate on the car's bumper (it was a Florida car). So he threw the other plate away. Over a year later I got pulled over and got a "fix-it" ticket (that still cost money, by the way) for not having it. The cop who pulled me over told me about the scanners. NONE of this is for your benefit. It's must another apparatus of control and identification. Years ago, where you went in your car really only got tracked at toll booths. Soon it will be that way everywhere. Front plates are necessary for that to function optimally.

Each one represents 5 years of service with the agency. He has 5 of those hash bars. Simple preschool math tells us that 5x5=25, thus at least 25 years with the CHP.)

License plate on the windshield looks tacky
I wouldn't , real easy to break passenger window and have that plate wind up on a stolen car.
He said that it needs to be on the most front part of the vehicle. So that was covered.
Right.. I put my license plate in my dash and got a ticket smh
This clown could not be more wrong. I will address his genius points
1: Theft - what thieves would drive around in a stolen vehicle with stolen plates?
Awsome.....
Idk. Haven't had a front plate since 2003. Only pulled over once for it, never ticketed. I don't think california cops make it a big deal

I did the same thing! Not on my GT 3 unfortunately 😛

California has a large problem with the reflective coating coming off. 2011 to 2015 issue.
I remember some years ago. The license plates were fading or peeling very quickly. When the state checked into it. The prisoner that took over was doing something different so the paint wasn’t lasting very long. But modern paint is crap compared to old paint. For your house and car.

The last one he's wrong California allows the black and yellow (legacy) license plate at an extra fee every year you choose to have it and you can personalize it as well. Now the new white and black I'm not sure if they r allowed or the vertical plates on motorcycles.

Most parking stalls are accessed with the front aiming into a stall, so,to locate a vehicle, you locate the vehicle by the rear plate.
the front plate doesn't have the expiration info/validation sticker.
All vehicles licensed are commercial vehicles used for the transportation of persons or property for hire.
What about license plates with different colors? Are those legal?

Forget about the front plates, get the uninsured, and those that paint their plates. All cars look hideous with a front plate.

More reasons to leave California.

What about out of state vehicle?
If your vehicle is registered in another state, then you are required to obey the registration laws of whatever state your vehicle is registered in. If those laws conflict with California's, then there's nothing that California can do about it; the issuing state's laws take precedence. However, remember that if you move to California from another state, and you're not simply passing through or vacationing in California, the law states that you must reregister your vehicle in California within 20 days of establishing residence and/or securing employment within the state.
Well said
What a bunch of propaganda.

The point is that they're trying to sell this as something that's being done to benefit you, but that's bull. There are all sorts of things you CAN do to make yourself safer. There's always a more visible color for your car, or a version or model with better braking, or better visibility, etc. The arguments made here are lame.
