  • After tons of failed attempts and a couple years of watching every self installation video I could find, I finally am ready to show you the way I put in my tape-in extensions on my own! Mine last roughly 6 weeks and I am able to reuse them over and over for at least 6 months before repurchasing!

      I loved this too and have paid big money for hotheads but what I found out was the tape loved my hair like a lot! And the extension would separate from the tape and no amount of oils or remover got the tape out easily it was awful. Anyone else ever had that happen or offer up better extension ideas ?

    I’ve been wearing tape in extensions since 2011. My stylist did them for until 2017 when I moved. My usual routine with her took 3-4 hours. This was her removing, coloring my own hair, cleaning and applying new tape to the extensions while my color processed, reapplying the extensions and styling. She became a dear friend and we both looked forward to my appointments which, of course, added to the time my appointments lasted.
    When I moved out of state I tried to find a new stylist but, I was blown away by what they were going to charge me. Plus, they would not use extensions that I would bring in, they would only use what they ordered and insisted on a new set each time.
    So, I’ve been doing my own since 2017. I buy my extensions and tape from Sally’s. I take an evening and a morning to do my hair. I start by removing the extensions the night before. The next day I start by coloring my hair and giving it a long wash, really giving the roots and scalp a good scrub. I do not use any conditioner.
    Then I put my extensions in almost exactly how you do yours, only I start at the bottom and work my way up. As long as I take my time and rush myself, they’ll be good for 8-10 weeks. I might have to retape one from time to time but that just takes a few minutes.
    I use 22” and 18” to give the layers and volume I want.
    I love my extensions!! They give me the hair I dreamed of having when I was a teenager.
    I haven’t been able to wear them for over a year now. In 2019 I was diagnosed with stage four cancer. I’m in remission now and I never lost my hair but the treatment did change the texture of my hair and gave it a very funny feel and I just couldn’t get the tape to stick.
    I started taking biotin with coconut oil and my hair has actually grown out almost to the length of the extensions. I still miss them though and I’m thinking of putting them back in soon. They gave me confidence and I could use some of that now.
    Great video!!!! I wouldn’t change a thing!!! ☺️

    • @donitownsend4684
      @donitownsend4684 3 года назад +4

      @@lawandalh2387 Sally’s sells an adhesive remover that I use. A few drops on a cotton ball or cloth dabbed on the tape end of the extensions helps them slip right off. Stubborn ones might take more than a dab. Wash your hair well and don’t use conditioner before putting them or new ones back in.

      I totally would but I have grown my hair so much and it's so much thicker than it used to be that I don't have to use extensions anymore! They do sell remover, but I hated it. The remover made them much more of a pain when you go to reuse them. I usually used melted (but cool) coconut oil and massaged it into my scalp and waited about an hour. Then just pry apart! I hope that helps!

    How long do you keep them in before taking them out? How do you get them out without wrecking the hairs surrounding the tape? Does the hair surrounding the tape end up getting connected to the tape and become removed? Sorry if these are dumb questions....I'm a noob at this.

    • @BrookieRush
      @BrookieRush  24 дня назад

      Not dumb questions at all but a lot to explain in text! Check the description box for the link to a removal video I did where I talk ALL that stuff. As far as how often you need to replace, that all depends on YOU; growth rate, “wear n tear” and how well you take care of them play a huge part! I usually got about 6 weeks from each install. ❤️

    Ok so back in April I got tape ins at a salon it was my first time and I thought I had done enough research but I was way wrong. I paid $600 for 3 packs I’d hair which is absolutely a lot and I would normally never pay for but my hair is soooo thin and I was in a wedding so I used my stimulus. Couldn’t get an appointment until 2 days before the wedding and was told $250 to get them in and paid $375. They used all 3 packs and it was just way to much for me and my thin hair because yes you could see them once my hair grew out. However, when you go from like no hair to 3 packs of hair it’s a total self esteem builder. I was told it would be close to $450 to get them back in. No way I could afford that, getting them out was an ordeal in itself and then to not have long think hair was heartbreaking, but then I saw your video so yesterday was my first attempt at doing them myself. Yes I had a few minor issues but that was from inexperience but I will never pay for a salon to do them again. I know I’ll will get better with time and I’m honestly happier with the way I put them in with your help, and I can actually put my hair up. You seriously will never understand how much this video has helped me . Thank you for taking the time to make it.

Only thing I learned being raised by a hairstylist that I noticed you don't do, between each layers/row of extensions, leave a layer of hair with no extensions, way more comfy and less chances to have mini matte going on between each extrnsions! I ordered mine a week ago and I’ve been dying to do them and haven’t been able to find anyone to help me I watched 1 million videos but yours is the first one that I’ve come across and found your technique that would actually work doing it yourself I’m going to do them tonight and I’ll let you know how it turns out I only want it for length and I got two packs of 50 g each 20 pieces each I hope that’ll be enough how many packs did you use

    • @BrookieRush
      @BrookieRush  3 года назад

      If I remember I used about 2.5 packs BUT if you’re just needing length you can probably get away with 2 easily! I’m so happy you think this’ll work for you! Tip for a first timer: make sure you leave a little space between the tape and your scalp instead of right up at the root! You want to be able to comfortably “flip” them up and down (like if you were pulling your hair up in a pony tail). If you put them too close to the root they are painful to flip until they grow out a bit. Good luck!

    This is such a great video! I’m licensed and first had extensions done by a hairdresser friend. After only two fill appointments, I had to move away. Not wanting to fork over the $1500 at a salon in my new city (not that it’s not worth it…hairdressers absolutely deserve that for their time and expertise, just not an amount I could cough up every 6 weeks) and with my license, I’m able to buy the same brand that I started with. I started doing them myself…bottom-up, since that’s how my friend did it. But this looks so much easier when you’re working on yourself. I’ll be trying this when I do my next fill. Just want to park a little tip here too, in case anyone is like me-and can’t get anything through my hair without conditioner from roots to ends. A shampoo and conditioner without sulfate and sodium/salt, will allow full conditioning without losing too much stickiness on your adhesive tabs. My favorite is Paul Mitchel awapuhi wild ginger moisturizing lather shampoo and keratin cream rinse. Recommended by the friend who does extensions professionally. And a plus, for me is, since I had my first set installed right before a vacay, and washed for the first time at the resort, this shampoo and conditioner reminds me of vacation every time I use it 😉 Thanks for the great video…your instruction is detailed and easy to follow ❤

    OMG. It’s AMAZING. I got a scalp burn from using products marketed specifically for tape in removal and to add insult to injury? It took HOURS. Using the shine spray not only doesn’t burn my scalp, but literally takes 15-20 minutes AT MOST! Trust me. Try it!

      I just watched your video on your personal story of your dealings with imposter syndrome. All I can say is thank you. I've struggled with it as well, and self-diagnosed myself with it after doing my own research on why I don't feel good about myself despite the amazing accomplishments in my life. As a high-level professional in a competitive field, and with no college degree, I have consistently doubted my worthiness and my talent over the years, and as a single mama, always waiting for my life to crash down around me when people figure out that I'm not "all that." But here's the deal. Every single day I show up in my life and at my job and for myself and my kids, and I go out and kill it. It's taken me years to feel as though I actually deserve the job/career I have, and at 55 years old, I finally feel like I deserve it as much as anyone who has worked as hard as I have to get where I am. As far as politics, I feel exactly as you do, and I am no longer ashamed to admit it. Thank you for being you. Thank you for sharing this situation in your life that I would never myself dare speak about to anyone for fear of judgment. You are brave, you are real, and you are amazing. And I am at a point in my life where I can recognize that in you, because I also recognize it in myself. Much love and many blessings to you, fabulous girl❤️❤️❤️

    • @BrookieRush
      @BrookieRush  8 месяцев назад

      You have to keep in mind that sometimes it seems like you lost a ton of hair because normally, you shed about 50 hairs a day but when you have the tapes in, it prevents them from falling. Additionally, we are used to a big full head of hair while the extensions are in! So when you take them out you feel bald!
      I never liked any of the tape removals they sell. I much preferred melting down coconut oil and massaging it in, letting it sit and then taking my time to pry them apart. Hope that helps! I don’t know anything about the adhesive sally brand uses, that could be the culprit too.

    Hold ON!! Diet soda stops hair growing? I'm addicted to that stuff and my hair hasn't grown for ages, it's driving me mad which is why I'm watching tape in extension videos. I need to research that. Regarding putting these in, my problem is I don't curl my hair, I like it straight. I've got coarse, thick hair that gets frizzy easily and I use GHDs to get it straight. I'm worried my hair won't blend with straight extensions most of the time. :/

    • @BrookieRush
      @BrookieRush  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, ma’am!!! Once I quit (and I was a huge ADDICT) my hair started coming back in! The artificial sweeteners wreak havoc on your hair (and a lot more) and I had no idea how much better I’d start feeling until I realized the difference.
      As far as keep your hair straight as long as you don’t have a lot of layers and plan to cut the extensions to match your length, they will blend just fine. I don’t use tape ins any longer but I do still use clip in ones that are the same as my overall length. I almost never curl them and you’d never be able to tell!
      Good luck! AND KICK THAT HABIT!

    Question, did these extensions get dry super fast at the bottom after some time? I have purchased amazon extensions before and that was a continuous issue I have encountered. I've been buying Bellami recently but its so pricey im tired of it. Thanks! :)

      Not at ALL! I generally was able to reuse mine at least three times before replacing them!

    Hi this is a great video. Why do you not put any at the front side of your hair - is it because it’s fine and you’d see them? Thanks

      Thank you! My goal with leaving some space (about 2” from my hairline in the front) is to hide them, yes! Also, I need that hair left out to cover the tapes when I put it up into a pony tail!

      You’d be the first to ever say that as far as I’m aware! 😂 I take that as a compliment! Thank you!

    I've been using extensions for about three years and I have never tried the method you just showed. Now I can't wait to try it, next time I put them back. Thank you!
