      Sounds like Soviet bloc-nationalism of client states.
      Texas only was able to become independent because of US assistance; and they joined the US to keep Mexico from taking it BACK.
      But they did NOT join the Union by national compact.
      NONE of the states did; that would destroy their independence. They did it mainly to PROVIDE FOR THE COMMON DEFENSE: i.e. an international alliance.
      The rest was just OTHER voluntary international agreements.

    Interesting fact: A piece of California was temporarily independent for a few days from New Spain...under an Argentine flag
    Argentina sent a two-ship expedition led by Hipólito Bouchard to Monterey (what was once the capital of California) as part of their war for independence by countering the Spanish at their own game. After an attack on a fort failed, they made it on land the next day and the Spanish forces were no match. For five days, an Argentine flag was raised over Monterey

    The economic argument falls apart when you consider the number of companies that would pack up and leave for the United States. And that's not even including all the things run by the federal government that would shut down, like NASA. So much of the economy south of Houston is tied up in NASA and NASA contractors that the whole area would plummet into a Depression. The economic issue is *so much more complicated* than just the amount of tax money flowing to and from the state.

    the thing this video fails to consider is that while Texas does have a large economy, they do a lot of trade with the rest of the US. presumably, if Texas tried seceding, other states wouldn't do business with them anymore

    • @kmrapanmedia3176
      @kmrapanmedia3176 Год назад +33

      Doubtful it would damage trade at all because the other states don't care and they probably be getting cheaper and better goods and services from an independent Texas. Worst thing that would happen it would be to encourage all the other states to secede as well. And while it's not in the Texas Constitution it is an option for any state to leave the union

      It also depends on whether the secessions cascade. Remember in the beginning of the Confederacy was made up of South Carolina. And that's it. With them suddenly going through with articles of secession the other states around them started to do so. And if the reasons Texas is trying to leave the Union are shared by other states you could have a wave of states one after the other trying to leave.
      Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma might decide that their interests are better served by joining the Texas Republic than with the USA. (Especially with the way the US is going) and this could lead to the Western Seaboard not wanting to be apart and leaving. And we all know the lower Southern States would want to leave.
      If bad enough for Texas to actually take a serious stab at leaving, other states wouldn't be worried about trading with them. Many would probably be thinking of how they can leave to.

If they left the EU not only would countries like Germany and France be angry at a huge net contributor leaving and forcing them to continue the giving out of monies. Also countries that need the help of the UK might sink into even more debt and ruin those countries as well. UK staying in the EU isn't needed for the UK, but rather stability in europe
