  • Want to learn how to paint a landscape? This tutorial will cover how to paint a landscape using water mixable oil paints. The tutorial covers the process of painting a landscape from initial drawings to final painting. Water mixable oil paint has to be applied 'fat on thin', in other words, you must start with thin layers of paint with lots of medium followed by increasingly thicker layers of paint. The tutorial also covers the important issue of allowing paint layers to dry before applying the next layer of oil paint. The tutorial covers the basics of the process of painting with water mixable oil paints I may cover techniques etc in more detail at a later date if people enjoy this video.
    The tutorial also explains how paint can be applied to create texture using sponges, card and brushes which have been cut. The tutorial also covers paint medium formulas and colour mixing.

      You'd be surprised how many people do paint tree trunks brown. If only they looked at tree trunks, they would find they are lots of colours.

      Wow, to be mentioned in the same breath as Al Pacino is stretching credibility somewhat, but still I'll take that. Glad the video helped.

    Sir, I find your videos extremely informative and useful. Keep up the good work!!!!
    Can I please make a few more suggestions? I would really appreciate it if you could categorise your videos according to levels; for instance, beginners, intermediate and advanced level. I’m an enthusiastic learner who is looking for an online resource that can teach me how to draw, shade, colour and paint. I’m a creative person deep inside but I want someone to teach me everyone from scratch.
    Also I find art and painting very therapeutic. Plz could you categorise your videos according to these levels? Also, upload videos for painters( beginners). I want to learn water colour painting (I have Winsor & Newton).

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  3 года назад

      I do not produce advanced level videos, the vast majority are aimed at beginners and those wishing to improve from that level. As far as my playlists are concerned they are grouped by theme, Water colour, Beginners Drawing, Basic techniques etc. Cheers Paul

    will you ever go digital? interested to see you make similar tutorials for that

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  4 года назад

      I won't be going digital. The problem with digital is you can't hold the brush and feel the paint as it's applied. With the brush and paint you have total control of how you apply paint and the very act of doing so is a wonderful feeling. Digital offers no feeling, marks are determined by the software you use and the surface is always smooth. It just can't compare.

    If you're gonna use water-mixable oils you might as well use acrylics. Then you can wait 5 minutes for things to dry. Whatever, people like what they like.

    • @PaulPriestleyart
      @PaulPriestleyart  4 года назад +1

      The big difference is the waiting time, but with oil you have time to blend and manipulate the colour. Also oil paint retains it's texture it doesn't soften as acrylics tend to do. But as you say each to their own.
