This guide is intended mainly towards new players. As such, it does not cover things such as KO values and Motion Values of Hammer, as I do not want players to get lost with numbers and other complicated hidden mechanics of the game. I did not cover progression because I prefer players to experiment with whatever they like if they intend to go through the game the normal way (which means: not using Defender Gear). There's also probably a lot of forum posts etc out there that cover this topic, but just in case: The best progression Hammers are the Iron Demon and the Kulu-Ya-Ku Hammers. After these, Nergigante's Hammer is an option. The best World endgame Hammer is Kulve Taroth "Sleep", but it requires Kulve Taroth farming. Iceborne progression is more Kulu, into Banbaro if you want, into Brachydios/Acidic Glavenus, then Shara Ishvalda. Endgame is Safi/Alatreon/Brachydium/Fatalis. For armors, use what you want, but damage is always the best option. Bone Armor in Low Rank, armors from the Rathalos species in high rank. Drachen is the best endgame set but requires Behemoth farming. The rest is AT Teostra/Lunastra/Kulve Taroth. Iceborne armors give you a lot of options with some notable pieces such as the Fulgur Anjanath helm. The rest is Brachydium, Teostra, Nergigante... As usual, Crit Meta. Small thing I forgot to mention: Every move that is not a "slam" move in Hammer's moveset can transition into the Big Bang Combo. I also mentioned how the Spinning Bludgeon can transition into the Golf Swing Combo, but forgot to mention that that is the case for the other charge levels as well, with the exception of the level 3 idle charge. Thank you for watching!
this is by FAR the BEST weapon guide i have ever seen. It has literally EVERYTHING u need to pick up and get good on Hammer with. I am praying that are more guides on every other weapon like this. Thank you so much for this guide.
This is an incredibly well-edited guide, possibly the best MH guide I've ever watched. I love how you paced the given information between not only training room clips, but live hunts that showcase exactly what you're talking about! Most tutorials I've seen will just have b-roll footage with audio tracks over them, this is so much more well thought out! Not to mention the subtitles are a nice touch for deaf people, and omitting Fatalis footage. Great stuff!!
Oh and I didn't even notice until just now, but putting in the name of all the MH music played in the video as the tracks play is so good. I wish every video on this website would do that lol
Thank you very, very much for the kind comment. I haven't really watched any other guide on RUclips so I don't know how other people do these, but I'm glad you liked mine this much.
This is a wonderful guide, super informative and inspires me to play more as always. Also, the monologue about how good hammer is hands out plenty of dopamine. Thanks Lynn!
Absolutely fantastic guide! Even with 1000 hours on hammer I still learned something new. I really never knew golf swing was a higher DPS than charged level 3. To that I would also like to tell our new Bonk Brigade members that the ledge hop aerial slam is one of the best DPS options to punish a downed monster if their head is near a ledge as well as hammer being one of the best weapons for getting mounts. So always feel free to throw some aerial attacks in when you can unless its a fight where its better to save the mount CC for the last phase and Happy Hunting.
I am still super new to hammer and I was basically using the better combo by sheer "accident". It felt easier to get in but what I actually wanted to do was the level 3 idle charge xD needless to say I also spent plenty of time running around with my hammer charged waiting for openings or whiffing those hits. Clutch Claw stuff made me use the level 3 charge more but I didn't actually know you can do it from the level 2 charge so I can incorporate lots of new stuff into my play again thanks to guides like this. I think I am also slowly getting a grasp on the different animations (i.e. the reach on each attack, the angle, where and how you can change your aim during attacks) and my head seems to be putting it together to pick the right attacks to hit from a given position. Slowly. But that was always the fun with weapons in MH!
been a while since the video release but maybe this comment still reaches you. I'm utmost grateful for all of the guides/gameplay/speedruns provided by you. i picked up hammer p much 3 mths after world release (which was also my first mh) and discovered your channel while looking for a Sunbreak Hammer guide. ever since then i almost watched every video and just felt like i was improving by either the guide itself and implementing shown/preferable movesets or just watching speedruns and implement certain stafe and movement you use. Thank you for making so thorough content about Hammer and showing everyone the path of the bonk.
When I first heard the computer voice I was like meh. But no.. this is an awesome guide and I really appreciate the amount of dedication and knowledge you put into it. So much less personal bias and guesswork than some other guides have. Looking forward to watching any MH content you put out for sure 👍👍
It's perfect, good tips, nice pace of the video and in general just a very good footage to show hammer strength in real fights. Many thanks from new hammer player
I've been playing MHW:I for so long and I never knew about that Clutch Claw follow-up! You just made me love Hammer all over again. Thank you so much for the advice. Def gonna look at this again in the future when I inevitably forget hahaha
I was honestly skeptical with this guide with how recently it was made, but MAN was I wrong. This is an excellent guide, and I'm a bit sad this wasn't around when I was learning all the weapons. It covers the core playstyle of Hammer very well, and it's amazingly technical for older players like myself to appreciate how each combo is used while still being simple enough for newer players. Definitely sharing this to people who need help with Hammer from now on!
As an on-and-off hammer main for many years, it's great to see a refreshing new guide on the weapon! I only discovered your channel recently, but I think you covered a lot of the basics for beginners, and I even learned a few things as an experienced hammer user. Thanks for making this guide, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Keep up the good work! :)
your sunbreak guide was what got me into hammer, and this one is every bit as good - it explains everything i'd want to know for learning (or relearning) a weapon while still being easy to follow. i appreciate the subtitles, too. fantastic work!
I am a new playing to the Monster Hunter franchise and your video not only helped me understanding the hammer but a lot of basic movement with ledges and aerial attacks too. Thank you so much, keep up the fantastic work
Wasn't sure if I was gonna play hammer again on my replay of World. Was wondering if you were gonna make a new guide with your recent livestreams. Had a rough workday and was just gonna crash when I got home. This made me smile and inspired me to get up and play with my friend. Love your guides, Lynn. They're very informative, but your live the weapon and the series just shines through in them and brings me joy. Thanks for the work you put into making this :)
This was incredibly helpful, I just tried hammer last night after watching my friend use it for so long. Had so much fun against Yian Garuga with it so I needed a full guide to learn everything I could about this magnificent and entertaining weapon. Thank You for the video!
An excellently done guide-- clear, concise, to the point, and aware of what info is useful and what isn't. Far too often do I see guides bring up a bunch of fucking numbers, talking about motion values and elemental weaknesses and such, when really all I want is "How do I hit things good". I really don't care that if a Monster has a 2-star weakness on it's legs then I should use Regular Comboes instead of Charge Comboes or what have you-- I just wanna know how the weapon works. And finally, long after the game has finished updating, we have a guide that does exactly that! Cripes, if only I had seen this instead of the Arrekz guides, I might've actually enjoyed all the weapon types instead of confining myself to Longsword cause it was familiar lol
As a brand new player hammer has been the most fun by far and I finally was able to start understanding combat mechanics with it. Great guide thanks for sharing ❤
This guide will gain so much more attraction if the voice is better! The information in this guide is so condensed and juicy. I started the video with much suspicion cause of the generic AI voice, but boy was I wrong. I swapped from GL to hammer just recently, and I no longer feel lost after watching this vid. Top tier content!!
Wow, this is a fantastic guide! You really put it all together in an easy to understand guide that builds on itself. Plus some very satisfying gameplay, some of those hits were just perfect. I'm learning the hammer now and can't wait to try out the new tips I just learned from you! I normally don't subscribe after one video, but this was exceptional. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills!
It is crazy how fast you put this together. Amazing work! World Hammer was my favourite, thanks for this. It's a very nice refresher and learned a couple of things too.
Thank you for all this information I'm returning to monsters hunter world and I was clueless on what weapon to use so thank you for teaching me hammer I hope your channel grows big so you can help so many more people ^^
Thanks for this! Rise was the first time and tried hammer, i loved courage a lot, but you’re making me want to try out the old style hammer in my current world file. As always, no nonsense and super informative. Thanks so much!
Good god this poor master Rathian at the end. I played Bow in my original play through and will most likely never recover from the joy felt from a max pierce build dragon piercer on large monsters, but for a new playthrough with friend years after the original release I am picking up hammer now and this guide was absolute GOLD! So far I didn't even know that there are usefull idle charge up attacks on the hammer, I just though it's like bow where max charge is the main usable choice :D Wonderfull guide!!
Im happy to see info on hammer! I learned hammer in world/iceborne and while I think im ok at it, I'm probably missing out a lot of little tech and information to use it to its best.
Starting a new playthrough on PC after not playing since 2021. Wanted to try a new weapon to start with and chose hammer so this guide is exactly what i was looking for!!
Great guide, I'm a player coming back to finish iceborne so I didn't know much about the clutch claw attacks, this video helped me out even with my basics!
Nice to see an actual in depth guide for newcomers that also explains why Hammer, despite it's simplucity, is probably among the most balanced weapons at any skill level. Hammer in World/Iceborne might not be as good as it's Sunbreak version (it's almost perfect in that game imo) but after having returned recently I still found it adicting to play with.
Fantastic guide. It's funny that I've been playing hammer for over 400hrs in World and never realized the dodge animations/cancels were longer for the charge hammer than the non-charged mostly because I almost exclusively run it charged. I also didn't realize the level 3 charge attack could be followed up with the spinning blugeon clutch claw attack. Glad I watched. I'll be adding some things to my skill set because of this. Always looking for way to improve on the use of my favorite weapon. Cheers.
As a former hammer main that went LBG just before iceborne this has made me want to pick up the hammer again. Recently back in mhw I opted for Greatsword, Dual Blades and Longsword use only but I sure do miss the bonks. Thank you for this vidjah, it was very informative. 👊🏻
Awesome video, super helpful. I’m doing my first play through of world, I’ve never played another monster hunter either and this was really useful information!! Really good content and I appreciate you keeping out spoilers. Also not to be nitpicky or anything but just wanted to let you know the transition slide going into aerial attacks is incorrectly labeled. Really clean video otherwise!
Return to World was such a good idea. It’s awesome to see all the attention this game and franchise as a whole has been getting recently. The release of MH Wilds will be absolutely crazy
Hammer really is the best. After extended breaks from World I try to come back and learn a new weapon. Every time I'm like, "yeah this is neat, sure wish I was bonkin' right now" and go back to using hammer.
Great Guide! - I am a fiver who hopped onboard with the return to world campaign / sale and have been figuring out which weapons I want to learn (Switch-Axe is my default but I'm enjoying gun-lance and bow too so, a variety) - this video has been super useful for figuring out how to approach hammer's moveset. As many others have said, it's alot better than a wide variety of guides on youtube for many weapons, your editing is also charming, I too caught the lull in the music as Rathain took her nap, for example, nice subtle touch! Makes me wonder if there are other little nuances hidden away! Seemed worth commenting, despite me being a person who typically just lurks and doesn't even use this account. Thanks for taking the time to teach others like this. Unga Bonka indeed!
Great guide but I have some additions that might be i tetesting: 1. The distance covered by the lv 2 charge attack (uppercut) is shorther when the charackter doesn't move forward while the uppercut is released. Can't say for certain but it's about 1/3 of the distance that seems to be gained/lost. Doesn't seem like much but it's actually very practical in many situations imo. For example if you are to close to a monster but want to hit the head and postion yourself better for a followup, then it's usually better to do the short version. Another example would be the clutch claw attack opening (indicated by the drooling mouth, which can be extendet when clutcing onto the monster), so if you are too far away for a manual shot, then it's usually better to go for the longer dustance uppercut into the clutch claw follow up. The clutch claw follow up has a suprisingly large horizontal hitbox, so monsters can ve almost sniped with it. 2. I honestly have never heard anyone talk about this and for the longest time I thought I was imaginening it, but after some tests I strongly believe that it's possible to slightly shorten the recharge delay after a roll. First off all it's important to know that the charge button can be held during a roll, otherwise the charge is delayed anyways. If the stick is released right before the ending of the roll animation, so that the charackter stops moving for a split second, the Hammer should start recharging almost instantly, whereas it's slightly delayed when the stick is tilted in any direction after a roll. This saves a few frames that can definitly make a difference in some situations from my own experience. This also works in Rise/Sunbreak, hlwever the timing is slightly different. Just some more advanced stuff I suppose, but the 1st one espacially should be practiced early on imo. Edit: I must admit that I absoluteky hate the spinning bludgeon attack and to some extend the golf swing. I much prefer the new Rise/Sunbreak running overhead slam, because it's just infinitly more versatile and the golf swing unfortunatly whiffs way too often due to the weird angle of the attack, relatively small hitbox and because even when downed a monsters head is moving all of the place. Also in both World and Rise monster head regularly clip or get stuck in either ir a wall or the ground and that makes both moves practically useless. Many other attacks like the big bang can still work in those situation because of the ridiculous hitboxes (espacially in World).
1) Is true, I should've mentioned that. 2) Is true as well but is very minimal compared to how it is in Rise and Sunbreak, I didn't think it was worth mentioning.
@@dynamo_lynnThanks for the replay. Yeah, number 2 seems to be more effective in Rise, tho I kinda do it instinctively regardless tbh and saving a few frames is pretty much always good even if it's not much. I guess the main takeaway for newcomers is knowing that the charge is delayed after a roll and that it's worth memorizing how long that delay is.
Amazing guide! You know what would be an amazing follow up to this video, a guide for specific monsters that give hammer users trouble. Brute wyverns such as Deviljho or Brachydios, and fast moving monsters with very little openings like Tigrex and Barioth.
I have been following you since MHRise! Great guide as I am returning to World as well. Hope you can still make more video guides for hammer builds in Iceborne. Ungga Bungga!
Finally I understand how I do the clutch claw spinning thingy that came out on occation by accident. Also I was under the impression that real hammer mains only ever used the charged versions of the attacks, but after this video I'm gonna try to also incorporate the non charged ones for more flexibility
Any tips on more “quality of life” sets than damage? I just finished HR (as swag axe) and am starting MR but would like to try out new weapons and hammer looks fun. I’m pretty bad at the game though so I want as much comfort as possible-and am not sure how much I’m going to like not being able to cut off the dangerous tails!
Health Boost is the best comfort in the game by a landside, it should be easy to obtain as decorations and the skill itself is present on a number of armors like Rathian, Bone or Ingot. After Health Boost, Evasion and Evade Extender are the best. Earplugs if you're really bad at dodging roars
@@dynamo_lynn awesome! Thanks for the reply (and great video)! I’ve started the journey by clearing up high rank optional quests and am actually really enjoying it to a surprising degree. The sisterhood of bonk hasn’t been lying!
As hammer main my only tip is Slope/slide is your best friend. Kite enraged monster to a slide and bonk that shit till Oblivion with spining slide attack.
i loved the hammer guide for sunbreak / rise and it's inspired me to use it for my second run. So my second MH world will be Hammer too! thx for the guide :)
I consider myself pretty good with the hammer. (Almost 700 hours of MHW:I on PS4, just got back on PC), and I even learned a couple of things from this. Hammer users, I cannot stress enough how much learning an areas' slopes and ledges will help you not only with your DPS, but also your KO potential AND mounting monsters. Once you know and master those, you will be the go to mounter in your hunting parties.
Great guide!! Thank u. I’ve been meaning to use hammer as my malee weapon. Been using LBG so far. Hammer catches my attention because despite being hard hitting, it’s not slow like great sword. It’s also not that combo-heavy which I like. Thank u again for your guide. Will be using hammer now and see how it goes.
Very well done video hammers one of my favorite weapons it’s a lot of fun to break certain parts the monsters you usually have a hard time with other weapons
There's also probably a lot of forum posts etc out there that cover this topic, but just in case:
The best progression Hammers are the Iron Demon and the Kulu-Ya-Ku Hammers.
Thank you for watching!
i need to buy this game on pc and roleplay as sonic
Thank you for the guide. I started to play world 2 weeks ago and I main hammer so far I love it !
this is by FAR the BEST weapon guide i have ever seen. It has literally EVERYTHING u need to pick up and get good on Hammer with. I am praying that are more guides on every other weapon like this. Thank you so much for this guide.
I've seen many hammer guides to see how they compare to personal experience, and this one I think is the best one I've seen thus far. Well done!

Happy bonking to anyone trying out hammer or the game in general for the first time! Great guide, Lynn!

It's perfect, good tips, nice pace of the video and in general just a very good footage to show hammer strength in real fights. Many thanks from new hammer player
I already know every aspect of the weapon....eventhough, I stay the 20 min to see the video.
Very good content, lad

16:17 that lull in the music as the monster goes to sleep was awesome editing. This vid made me want to hop on and play hammer again.
This hardly felt like a 24 minute video. That must mean it's good! Thanks

Had a rough workday and was just gonna crash when I got home. This made me smile and inspired me to get up and play with my friend.
Love your guides, Lynn. They're very informative, but your live the weapon and the series just shines through in them and brings me joy.
Thanks for the work you put into making this :)
Thank you very much 🙏🏻
The thing I like about your guides is how you deliver the essentials without making it too long 👌
Easily the best weapon guide I have ever seen, while I'm learning that exact weapon - you really came in handy

amazing guide from the best mh creator on youtube! would you consider making a hunting horn guide? your love for it makes me want to love it too 😅
I'm a little reluctant on making guides for other weapons because I do not know them nearly as well as I do Hammer.
Love this guide, feel motivated to play Hammer. I wish other guides will be as great as yours for other weapons. Great video!
As a brand new player hammer has been the most fun by far and I finally was able to start understanding combat mechanics with it.
Great guide thanks for sharing ❤
Haven't clicked on a video so fast in ages. I'm new to the game and playing hammer right now and it's glorious.
Thank you for no fatalis spoilers. I need to try to use clutch claw combos more
Much appreciated. Always good to see takes on builds and strategies for a fav weapon :)
I have never seen such a complete hammer guide. Thank you for your work fellow bonk friend.
Ive beaten the game once with hammer and going through it again and i still learned so much thank you, very well made video
Damn I was wondering what weapon I should try next, but this guide was just so good, and hammer looks so fun I'll definitely pick it up!
this was really well done! love how hammer looks and feels and i took a lot away from this

It is crazy how fast you put this together. Amazing work! World Hammer was my favourite, thanks for this. It's a very nice refresher and learned a couple of things too.
Thank you very much!
This us perfect timing. I'm in the mood to get back into World (I stopped playing before Iceborne) and loved using the hammer so much
Great Guide, Lynn!!! Very informative and thorough coverage😌👌!! Keep up the great work

Lets go, more lynn guide content, you love to see it. Im really exited to see the content you will do for wilds.
Loved your guide 👍, returning player and forgot the moves 🤣 best guide out there by far

This may be the best hammer guide around dude, now do a GS one please.
I never really understood the hammer moveset but this guide enlightened me. Thanks!
A fantastic guide. I'm picking up hammer and this is perfect! Thank you.
Cheers.
Wow extremely glad I found this. Thank you! Best hammer guide I've seen
Quick question. How important is cutting tails off in this game?
@@TimeByPinkFloyd I didn't see this, but I think I answered you in yesterday's stream ;)
@@dynamo_lynn yes thank u so much for that!
Good job miss. You got me to pick up hammer as my second weapon and I'm having much fun bonking monsters.
This is a masterclass, thank you for the guide as a returning rusty hammer main.
Thank for the guide Lynn sensei. You are my Hammer teacher since Rise and now I'm playing World, you're still be my favorite Hammer teacher~
As a former hammer main that went LBG just before iceborne this has made me want to pick up the hammer again. Recently back in mhw I opted for Greatsword, Dual Blades and Longsword use only but I sure do miss the bonks.
Thank you for this vidjah, it was very informative. 👊🏻
Best guide i have ever seen! Ty
No nitpick don't worry, I acknowledged it in the description ;) You are very welcome!
Thank you very very much for the kind comment, I'm very happy you liked the guide! ❤️
Great guide but I have some additions that might be i tetesting:
Absolutely goated, hammer gang eating good today 🔨
Amazing guide! You know what would be an amazing follow up to this video, a guide for specific monsters that give hammer users trouble. Brute wyverns such as Deviljho or Brachydios, and fast moving monsters with very little openings like Tigrex and Barioth.
Thanks for the video, learning a lot using hammer for it❤❤❤😊😊😊
Holy moly, that golf really can swing. (Had zero idea it did more damage than charged lvl 3)
Master piece of a guide!
Nice video, I got a lot to learn from hammer play style I'm still learning this game on my first playthrough.
As hammer main my only tip is
Slope/slide is your best friend.
Kite enraged monster to a slide and bonk that shit till Oblivion with spining slide attack.
Watching your content has always motivated me to be a better hammer main. Keep up the great work😁 may there be many more books in the future 🤟🤟
God I love hammer, ty for this amazing guide!
This was a SICK guide. Thanks for this one.
Amazing guide for new players hehehe, I just came back and Im trying as many weapons as I can, already reached MR
I have been addicted to my main lance, but I will try the hammer again. Great detail, I really overlooked the moveset until you explained each move.
Thank you. Im new and used sns at first. But bonking this great jagras was so satisfying so i might join the bonk club.
as someone who only uses hammers on every hunt this video is a big hecking good!
i loved the hammer guide for sunbreak / rise and it's inspired me to use it for my second run. So my second MH world will be Hammer too! thx for the guide :)
Thanks for adding the mh tri desert theme.
Thanks for this vid. I learned some new things.
As a hammer main, this video gave me dopamine thank you
Great guide!!
Holy sweet jesus !!
This guide is OP!!
Very well done video hammers one of my favorite weapons it’s a lot of fun to break certain parts the monsters you usually have a hard time with other weapons
My third favorite weapon In Iceborne, behind only Hunting Horn and Gunlance. Was really looking forward for this.
