    I just wanted to say thank you for putting this fantastic work together. After watching this I purchased a ALP pinball with vibs board and the haptics kit from Buy Stuff Arcade and this is really awesome to have in my basement. For an overview of some of the different ways to use this machine you may want to see this guide: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-mod1 . Just as an fyi - if you decide you want to pick one up, there is a good sale starting 6/16. BitPixel HV, VIBS Board, Arcade Control Panel, etc. are some items that you may want if you decide to pick one up. More details here: wagnerstechtalk.com/al-news . Thank you so much for making this. I am a little confused, how did you set up the second HDMI connection into the VIBS exactly? I rewinded the vide 20 times and I still can't understand. Did you somehow do USB from your computer to HDMI or did you split the HDMI. I am so excited to set this up but also so so very confused

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 года назад +1

      Hi MichaelB, for the second HDMI connection to the VIBS board I could have used a DV to HDMI adapter on the PC. But, I was previously testing another PC (which didn't work out) and on that PC I had used a USB 3.0 to dual-HDMI adapter. My thought is to use the 2nd HDMI port at a later time for a dedicated DMD. The HDMI Adapter worked great on both machines (the one I returned and the new one I setup recently). So, I stuck with that. All the non-AtGames hardware (and software) can be found on this page: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#Additional_Hardware . It should help quite a bit, especially the JoyToKey tutorial which basically you download the LegendsPB-wtt archive and everything will be pretty much ready to go. I did make a minor change to that file to allow using the A/B button on your Arcade Control Panel for a Lef/Right mouse click. Hope all this helps!

    A big thanks to you for sharing clear instructions that help many people get more out of their ATGames Legends Pinball machines! And a question: I see that the new Zen Pinball FX platform now offers cabinet support, yet I find nothing on the Internet about anyone getting that working on the ALP. Is it possible now to play the new Pinball FX on the ALP?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Год назад +3

      Very welcome and thank you! Yes, FX does have cabinet support but it's severely lacking -imo. I started creating a guide on it, but stopped until support is further along. One key feature of cabinet support is the ability to rotate the playfield display. At the time I started (about 1.5 months ago), it wasn't built-in to FX and as far as I know still isn't. There was a hack that made it possible, but required using Baller Installer to do so. Just didn't make sense for me to continue until the support is there. Hope that clarifies. Once Zen implements it fully, I'll revisit and revive the guide I started. The last thing I want to do is create a guide that is so convoluted no one will appreciate it and I'd get tons of negative feedback.

    Great video! Just got mine setup last night. I had one question though, why do you keep the playfield in landscape mode? Isn’t there a way to adjust the rotations in FX3 and have it in portrait mode. It sure is a pain to start up with everything sideways. Also, how do you boot straight into FX3 from Windows 10? Thanks

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Год назад

      Most of the sites recommend the playfield in Landscape and I tend to agree. Plus, if you change it to portrait none of the settings in the guide will work as the display layout numbers in FX3 will all need to be re-calculated and update. You can copy the shortcut for FX3 to your /Startup group in Windows. When you boot, it will launch then.

    Thank you for this video! I was having a lot of trouble getting a reliable non-laggy USB connection between my gaming PC and the ALP and your info (In the video and on your site) were what I needed to finally get things working well.
    I had tried 2 or 3 different USB cables...one worked reliably but had too much lag, another would constantly lose connection. I tried a powered USB hub since I heard that could fix the lag, but no luck with the HUB I had. I finally broke down and spent the $30 for the hub and cable you used (plus another $10 for the magnetic beverage holder!) and finally had a near-zero flipper lag (certainly good enough to play well..finally!).
    I did have a few issues/differences from your video. One was that I needed to set the ALP screen to portrait orientation in my Windows display settings. When I would do landscape in Windows and then rotate in ALP or Steam, the display would get screwed up. It's likely I had something set wrong between my ALU's orientation setting and the Steam/FX3 orientation setting, but I was able to get things working fine by simply adjusting the DMD/backglass coordinates in FX3 so it worked out fine in the end.
    Also had an issue with the controls, but tracked that down to some previously configured settings in Steam for the ALP controls that were interfering with the Joy2Key settings. After cleaning out the controller settings in Steam, the problem went away.
    Another challenge was tracking down the backglass graphics and the correct DMD/backglass coordinate settings for FX3. Would love a link to the backglass graphics you used in your video because they look pretty nice.
    I got the backglass stuff working on an external monitor and now I'm just waiting for my VIBS board to arrive...it's been in "ready for pickup" status for about a week now, but still isn't showing it has been picked up. But once I get it installed, everything else should be ready to go. Thanks again for the very detailed instructions!

    Love the video. Very helpful and my games are running great. Unfortunately the sound doesn't work well. It is low volume. I have my pc volume at 100%, the Legends volumes settings all the way up, and all of the FX3 volume slides at high, but still get weak sound. Tried switching the HDMI cable but no help there. Don't have weak sound when playing the games installed on the machine, but also get weak volume with Visual Pinball and Future Pinball. Any thoughts? Could it have anything to do with Nvidia settings? Thanks for any help you can provide.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 года назад

      Thank you Douglas, happy you've got everything working! The very last bullet point here is if there is no sound: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp/#VIBS_Troubleshooting which doesn't seem to be exactly the issue you're having. But, it reads: No sound when using FX3/VPX or Future Pinball (OTG) - click the speaker icon in the lower-right of the taskbar in Windows. Make sure it’s set to output audio to the primary HDMI output (your backglass). Once set properly, the audio should play through just fine. I'd double check the playfield HDMI connection is the primary HDMI, then adjust the volume control in Windows and see if that helps. If not, honestly not sure what may be the cause. If it sounds fine on the ALP itself but weak audio only when the PC is connected, it's something on the PC/Windows side that I've not seen. May just take some additional tinkering/searching to find a solution. Sorry I may not be very helpful in this reply. You can also ask your question on the Legends Ultimate subreddit here: www.reddit.com/r/LegendsUltimate , good chance someone there has had the same issue and can be more helpful.

      Either one will work with FX3, the one ending in PUP has additional buttons for PinUP Popper mapped (but also works with FX3). I'd say, go with the first one until such time that you want to use PinUP Popper. With PUP, you'll have to map two keys for the nudge in FX3 with LegendsPB-WTT you don't.

    I've been using that file that you talk about on here for joy2key, it works great, unfortunately my plunger is broken and I'm forced to launch the ball using the enter key on my keyboard, i have the arcade control panel installed on my legends pinball, is there anyway i can change the button on joy2key to launch the ball with like my X,Y OR Z top buttons? Cause they don't do anything in fx3 right now anyway, and i dont think i can launch my wizard power either on fx3 with this setup the way the file comes, please help me out if you can, really just want to be able to map my wizard power button and especially the launch the ball button to my control panel so I don't have to use my keyboard at all anymore while playing fx3

      If you want anything to show up on the backglass while connected to a PC, you'll need the VIBS board and a 2nd HDMI port. This guide goes into much more detail: wagnerstechtalk.com/alp-mod1 . • @WagnersTechTalk

      Hi Joel, I think the problem in this case is that the arrangement of the displays is wrong in Windows. Click the Identify button, there you'll likely see the backglass as 1, Playfield as 2. Instead, this move the displays around such that the playfield is on the far left, then the backglass, any other display to the far right. More on the settings for each on the 2nd point here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#Software_Considerations Make sure they are fully aligned at the tops of each displays (don't want them crooked in anyway or it will throw things off - straight line at the top of each display).

      You could use the HDMI out from the laptop as the playfield display, then one of the other HDMI ports for VIBS. Anything connected to an HDMI port is going to show up under Windows. I hope this answers your question. From the adapter standpoint, only one of those should be needed/connected.

      Thank you Joel! I think what's happened here is that Windows got confused with the monitor/HDMI arrangement. Try plugging the HDMI connections in the same way you had it working before. Then restart the PC and see if Windows restores everything back. If not, the black screen you're seeing is the backglass display. See the 2nd point here to make sure your displays are arranged properly: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#Software_Considerations . Hello and thanks for the great video,
    I have a question about it: I have so far assigned the buttons via Steam in BigPicture Mode. It works great so far, except for the plunger of the ALP, I can not use or integrate with it.
    If I install the JoytoKey software, can I then also shoot the ball using the plunger on the ALP? Or does the plunger with the JoytoKey setup also not work?
    Thank you :)

      With the JoyToKey profile you can use the plunger. I've noticed some tables just launch immediately while others will respond to slow pulling of the plunger. So I currently have the ALP as the main playfield then I have the Backglass and DMD on my laptop screen. The question is: Is this the best I can do until I get the VIBS board? meaning I cannot use the ALP back glass at all until the VIBS board comes? Correct, you won't be able to use the backglass until the VIBS board arrives. hi, at around @9:39 in the video you are showing how your main screen (the playfield) is set to landscape. I currently have my backglass screen (on the computer settings) set to portrait mode. And I can see everything on my computer (on the pinball arcade screen just fine with screen #1 being set to portrait). And I even have Pinball Arcade up and running using the joytokey, with this configuration (my #1 screen set to portrait, and my #2 set to landscape -like yours). So I am not sure why I would need or want to have my #1 screen on the PC, set to landscape....when it seems all pinball machine games will need the primary PC screen #1 to be in portrait mode. I hope that makes sense...
    Also if I left the screen #1 in landscape mode then it would look sideways when viewing it on the Arcade Legends pinball backglass (hence why my screen #1 is set to portrait mode currently).
    I have a feeling if I dont have the same settings as you showed in your video for the PC screen configuration, then when you explain all the cabinet mode settings in the Pinball FX 3, those settings would not work for me....since my screen #1 is already in portrait mode....So I was just wondering why you would not have have your screen#1 in the PC settings to be in portrait mode???
    thanks

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Год назад

      That's correct, in the guide you'll find landscape is how it's documented. Like you, I started with Portrait as it seemed to make the most sense. However, as I began setting up PinUP Popper it was clear the landscape would provide the ability to see the entire screen (in portrait, while trying to configure anything things won't fit properly). It became very problematic to launch VPX and not be able to see the entire screen or get much done in Windows. I also find it easier to use TeamViewer to remotely connect to the PC used by the ALP to configure it and it's easier to do in landscape orientations. I also found the community recommended using Landscape for similar reasons. So, went that way and simply rotate the display in software when the tables are launched. This has worked out well and the numbers I show in the guide should match fine if done that way. But, they won't if you stick with portrait. You'll have to do a bit of tweaking for the backglass/DMD positioning.

      @@WagnersTechTalk OK, I think I see what you are getting at. I would rather follow your directions, since it would save time in trying to figure out all the dimensions etc as you explained in your video. And then, as you clarified in yuor comment above, I just use the settings within the software (Pinball FX3) to change Display settings. That makes sense.
      The only other thing about using Vertical mode on my Windows machine is that I want to play stuff like Worms Pinball and maybe some older games too (that may not have fancy Display settings like PFX3 has). So maybe in those cases, I can just rotate the settings of my primary monitor (and therefore the backglass) to play a game like Worms. Only time will tell, once I experiment some more with some of the more esoteric games like Worms and even some possible Gog.com pinball games like Epic pinball

    So Mr. Wagner what do you think of Zen Studios new upgrade to all their pinball tables & the fact that people have to re-buy all their tables for the new generation..& what’s your take on the ticket system they’re trying to implement..?..thank you‼️ HollerBack Wagner

      First off, I'll be honest, I've not tried their new system/games yet (I did buy Indiana Jones for FX3 though and it's a cool table - but overpriced). I know it's been almost a month since it's release, though without the cabinet mode feature being available (at last I heard, should be available at any time) I'll wait until it is. Their ticketing system sounds like a pain and I'm not jumping at buying the same tables I already own just because a different publisher has released them. I'm sure the rendering engine will make a difference and that I'll be digging into it at some point.

    Love the video! So I followed everything and for some reason my laptop displays my fx3 while my atgames machine just shows my desktop.. can you help?

      Thank you Joshua! When arranging the displays, move your laptop display to the far-right. Far-left should be your Playfield monitor. If you have a VIBS board and connected, it would be in the middle of the 3. See the 2nd point here for more details: wagnerstechtalk.com/alpfx3/#Software_Considerations

      @@WagnersTechTalk thank you so much! So I ordered my Vibs board just recently and I am waiting for it to be delivered. I wanted to see if I can play FX3 without the VIBS board. Also, I was able to get the FX3 to show on my atgames monitor. However when I use and of my buttons to play. Nothing seems to work. I have to use the laptop to play while it shows on my machine. Any help? Also.. thank you so so much for reaching out and your help!!

      No problem, happy to help out! Did you connect a USB-A to USB-A cable (also known as OTG) between the ALP and your laptop? Here's a quick setup that should help: wagnerstechtalk.com/alppcsetup/#Quick_Setup . A powered hub is only needed if the OTG connection isn't connecting to the PC (some PC's may need it).
