The equivalent of a dad saying "Looks like we'll have to cut it off" then actually doing it.
In todays world this would already be worth several million dollars but we're forgetting the advanced technology in rimworld. In 2021 you can buy stainless steel cutlery and porcelain plates at IKEA for a few dollars. 500 years ago good steel was prohibitively expensive and Porcelain was reserved for nobility. In the 1960s the U.S and USSR spent fortunes trying to develop super computers powerful enough to conquer space, now i can buy a computer several orders of magnitude more powerful for a few hundred dollars. When RimWorld plays out heavy machinery, hard drugs and robots might be as mundane as porcelain plates, stainless steel forks and laptops are to us.
Just food for thought.

Isn't Rimworld set like 3000 years in the future?
@@Tkieron That depends. The game starts in the year 5500 but we don't know what era or calendar system they're using. Remember that the Gregorian Calendar we westerners use isn't universal. In the Islamic Calendar the year 2021 is 1442, in the extinct Roman Calendar the year would be 2774 (because their year 0 started with the founding of Rome in 753 bc). If the RimWorld Galaxy uses the currently dominant Gregorian Calendar and the Common Era it is set 3500 years in the future, otherwise it's impossible to know.
It's even possible that the RimWorld year is shorter. With 15 days per season a year is only 60 days long. Since 1 RimYear is roughly 1/6th of a regular year the year 5500 might be something completely different in our Gregorian Calendar. 5500/6=916.66 so that's the indeterminable start year + 916.66 years. It could play out in 1000 years or in 10,000 years.
So to summarize; You're probably right, possibly wrong, we'll never know. Now go harvest some organs and make the colony proud!
There is a mod i use called “thick roof miner” or “absolutely no roofs” and it basically allows you to remove cave roofs so you can settle into bases like yours a little easier. It stops infestations but you choose what gets removed and what doesnt

@@ambiguousamphibian Another alternative I personally use is "Infestations Spawn in Darkness". As long as any square is 'lit' (30%+ light) infestation won't spawn there. It depends on your playstyle of course and how you may want to deal with them!
@@ambiguousamphibian dropping in 6 months later to say remote tech is also a nice mod for removing cave roofs (using explosives)

I think the balance between longer playthroughs following single or a small group of characters and longer videos with fewer episodes for challenges that fit that format is good. I both enjoyed this and your other PZ/Kenshi/Rimworld content.

The more AA talks about how satisfying it is to watch this "like an antfarm without the ants" stuff I want even more for him to play Songs of Syx. If it's the ant-farm feel you're lookin for with all the amazingness of a great city/base builder, that's what you're looking for.

I can understand racoons but... turtles? Well I guess there was that one time in the sea ice...
Dangerous turtles just make me think of Fjord from Critical Role getting pinned to a wall by a large turtle.
Honestly I was expecting guinia pigs.
Turtles have high armor and are very hard to shoot for pawns so they are quite dangerous
In addition to their armour, turtles have a higher chance of biting off entire limbs. This is related to why players use chicken swarms as raid defences.
I lost a colonist to a tortoise biting his neck causing him to bleed to death.

I mean, is 1 hour early? Do i count as early
AA you should never use fire in fighting infestations, especially in enclosed spaces. Aside from the risk of overheating the room, which can cause heatstroke and burns, when the insects burn they go out of combat mode when they wiggle around trying to put the fire out. That allows them to bypass any choke point you make and outflank your weaker ranged characters , like just happened here.
The best way to deal with infestations is: you put 3 melee characters at a choke point, preferably a plasteel door surrounded by plasteel walls that only allows insects to come one by one (bait the insects into your preferred choke poit if you need to). Add to that one or two pawnswith grenades just chucking grenades into the crowd of insects, and the rest of your shooters raining lead on them further back away. Guarenteed success GG EZ

If you keep the temperature below a certain value, no infestation can spawn there. Would advise doing that in your MEGA MACHINE ROOM.

I like both. A sprawling series is nice. Something to come back to again and again. The specific challenges over a smaller number of videos sounds like it could be cool.
Yeah, alternating between the two styles depending on what best suits the challenge you are doing would be best in my opinion. Keeps things unpredictable as well.

I think if you removed the pillars and didn’t build anything there, the cave roof would fall down making it to where the hives wouldn’t spawn anymore, or you could research remove cave roof and do a huge building project. Keep up the godly work!

Set goals to reach leave us wanting to watch more so keep it up. I personally like long series goals to work towards but short and to the point goals like this are a welcome relief. Also, I JUST LOVE MODDED RIMWORLD
I like these challenges, but I also like longer stuff too (as long as it reaches some kind of conclusion). Keep up the good work, and I'll keep watching.
AA, thanks for the different formats. I for one am on that daily vote, but even if you decide the other way I'm going to be a happy camper. I do however advise that you not burning yourself out and do what makes you happy. I think we're all just going to sit here salivating anyway and praising the day when a new video comes out. Feel free to mix it up because it all gives us all a different tastes depending on scenario. for instance 100-day play through is more suited to two 40 minute videos as opposed to 10 ten minute videos.
That being said I'm certainly looking forward to a 40 minute episode

Hey man, I've barely started the video, but I'm really writing in to thank you for your channel content, for the philosophy you poetically work into some of the most ridiculous shit, but mostly for your obvious gratitude to the program. I've been subscribed for a year or so I think, but I was in full blown relapse mode when I stumbled across your channel, and as dumb a reason as it is, I used the wait for new content as a timer. I kept telling myself that I'd get high after your next video. And then the next. But I never did, and I can't explain why, I'm just glad you exist bro. So thank you.

I'd assume he restricted himself by limiting the score of his start by giving them low skill levels or whatever because other wise he could have just spawned in with 20 skill shooting and just capture bases and finished in like 10 days
To the question at the end: I much more prefer the longform content over shorter ones! Excellent content man, you deserve the growth you've been getting!

This "Hello" was quite turbulent and I like it.
i would reconsider calling it a challenge given the amount of mods making every challenging part of the game that much easier
Because the challenge is getting 1mil not survival or growing
Infestations are the easiest raid you can get, just make an area infront of a door and put a wall of animals to block the ants and DONT BURN THEM, its super easy and you get a ton jelly
Wall of animals, shotguns and grenades. Just gotta be careful not to nade the walls. There’s a mood that lets you shift to Target the ground, very handy.
@@Quirkyhndl i never use grenades, too risky, but yeah shotguns own
@@SpeedWeed97 yeah, they do require more micromanaging, but they can only miss by one tile in any direction, so as long as you give yourself that buffer and target the ground instead of a unit then you're good to go. Just need to remove them when you're done, or else use the simple side arms mod where you can force the use of a specific weapon only.
@@Quirkyhndl i play with vanilla weapons Expanded and i like to use the flash grenades, those are really nice agains ants

That factory mod seems gamebreakingly good! Components can be a pain. I've had pre manufacturing colonies where i went to every village around my base to buy out their components, and still needed more lol. Even when you can craft them, it takes forever!

That or just try and make a space station with SoS2 in one of your playthroughs
