My prediction (purely a guess), They want to test cross-functionality of GameCube online games between current Gen and next Gen. "We" (the users) all have the Switch and will be playing against "them" (inhouse devs) on Switch 2. But we won't know that. We'll just see them like any other user. This way Nintendo gets to have the leak of GameCube games and avoid the leak of Switch 2. They are mitigating their risk avoidance this way. Then the following week they do the official announcement of Switch 2 AND GameCube games AND cross-functionality. They hit all the notes of pleasing fans with a new console while also appeasing/alleviating current Gen fans fears they will be left behind during the transition.
It feels like Nintendo is finally focusing on gamecube nostalgia. They used to mostly focus on nes, snes and n64 nostalgia. But thanks to metroid prime remastered, the first two pikmin games coming to switch alongside pikmin 4(which expands on pikmin 2), paper mario ttyd remake, mario party jamboree's retro minigames focusing more on the gamecube entries, they are acknowledging that the gamecube kids have grown up.
Ya the gamesphere did work because it kept rolling across the room and the game pyramid didn't work because moms kept stepping on it's pointy top at night while getting a glass of water.
It was such a great era for console names. Game boy advance sounds like legendary, GameCube is absolutely awesome, PlayStation is a goated name, Xbox is literally the dopest name you could come up with. Dreamcast is such an awesome name and I’ve never even played Dreamcast games besides jet set and sonic adventure 😂
Why do Nintendo specify that we should play with the Switch connected to a TV during the online test? ..But Maybe it's just to be able to use a wired internet connection which is faster and more reliable.

I don’t think GameCube games are coming to switch online. Nintendo remade TTYD for switch which makes it seem more likely Nintendo would remake certain GameCube games.

Dolphin was originally just a Gamecube emulator, but since the Wii had very similar hardware that can be emulated in the same way, they added Wii support

Apparently SEGA was developing a Dreamast emulator for the Switch. I wouldn't rule out a Dreamcast Collection for next year. If they go the extra mile and also make a Dreamcast controller with a VMU screen I'm sold.
GameCube would be amazing. I’m never played on GameCube because I’m only 19. The only GameCube I have been able to play are Pikmin 1 and 2 because they got remastered. I would love to play double dash, Smash Melee, Luigi’s Mansion, Kirby’s Air Ride and more. Thai is also really good for the people who couldn’t get Mario 3D all stars before they stopped selling it. They had Mario 64 on NSO when N64 games were added so Mario Sunshine is also a possibility. Also are they ever going to put the original Smash Bros on NSO? Like seriously where is it?

The GameCube thing might actually end up being for a new smash, it’s close to 6 years now since Ultimate released and I doubt they’re gonna stop making smash games just because Sakurai felt like he was done with it, he’s not needed anymore anyway. GameCube games on the switch would be cool but it feels to late with the new system probably coming next year sometime.
I would really love if the whole Mario and luigi series was added to the switch. And continue adding games from the 3DS or the original DS, like a brand new Tomodachi life, or maybe a Nintendogs+ cats, or adding Kirby Super Star Ultra, etc. These are only a few games on my wishlist for the switch, or the switch 2

Definitely don’t see GameCube being an option for a potential new update for NSO, I think it’s realistically a bad marketing strategy, because many people would just ignore buying the remakes of games from the GameCube for the Switch, and just play the free ones instead. I honestly think either these systems will be coming to NSO; • Virtual Boy (Active base NSO membership) [Miyamoto has talked before about emulating them onto the Switch, so I think it could very well be on the horizon] • SEGA Dreamcast (NSO + Expansion Pack exclusive) [given how SEGA Genesis made it, why not the Dreamcast?]

I would like them to be Nintendo DS games and it makes more sense since it is the only Virtual Console console that is not available on the Switch, but I don't know how Nintendo would deal with the lack of microphone, two screens and touch-screen on Switch.
If Nintendo DOES release a new software in the form of GCN:NSO, I don't see them adding Smash Melee unless they update N64:NSO to include Smash 64, as the current N64 software doesn't include SMB. Double Dash does seem more likely, though, as every Mario Kart from SNES:NSO, N64:NSO & GBA:NSO has returned. I could also maybe see the Mario Parties coming to a potential GCN:NSO, as MP1-3 are in N64:NSO.
A random thought, but could you imagine if Nintendo had Gamecube as the next virtual console and not too long after they announced the new mario kart for switch 2 with the double dash mechanic returning? Yes I think what it is in there making it so you can connect to online with random people and making it a feature on any game for any console for the nso games. When you're creating a new online service, you need to test if the network can handle it. For exemple, for Internet and TV access, new functionalities are tested among a few volunteers first, then East-European countries and, only next, the rest of the world.

Gamecube itself can't run on Switch. Sunshine was optimized with a lot of effort. Even mario galaxy has been ported/half emulated; If gamecube is coming, it's for switch 2. Not for switch 1. This online feature thing is going to be something else.
Nintendo 3DS HD incoming and the 3DS HD will be backwards compatible with DS, 3DS, New 3DS and Switch cartridges and Nintendo will fully support the 3DS HD with eshop and retail exclusive games... The 3DS HD will be able to connect to TV's and the device will be shock proof and water proof... Miiverse and Spotpass is coming back
it does sound too good to be true. My hope would be wii and gamecube games at the same time, but even if its as you describe it would be a lot. fingers crossed hope they give us something good, but knowing our luck with Nintendo they can be very hit or miss sometimes... especially during their high moments they tend to crash things weirdly. Hope for a dud to save the pain i guess instead lol. but I am still very happy with my switch oled regardless.
I'm pretty sure this is GameCube-related and something else-related because as you said it could be a Nintendo Direct where they announce GameCube for NSO and they show all the games on the GameCube like Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Mario Strikers, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Party 4, 5, 6, and 7, Luigi's Mansion, The Legend of Zelda The Windwaker, Pikmin 1 and 2, Animal Crossing, F-Zero GX, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox Assault, Wario World, and maybe some Sega Games like Sonic Gems Collection since I don't have the game anymore but it would be fun to play it again on Switch. But yeah hopefully we get that and hopefully in the Direct we could see Kirby Triple Deluxe, Kirby Planet Robobot, and Tomodachi Life finally coming to Switch so I hope we do get something next week from Nintendo for a Nintendo Direct.

GameCube games are absolutely going to be released like the others. Just a matter of when. I think its best Nintendo wait until January or February 2025 to announce the next system. I'm pretty sure this is GameCube-related and something else-related because as you said it could be a Nintendo Direct where they announce GameCube for NSO and they show all the games on the GameCube like Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash, Super Mario Strikers, Mario Power Tennis, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Party 4, 5, 6, and 7, Luigi's Mansion, The Legend of Zelda The Windwaker, Pikmin 1 and 2, Animal Crossing, F-Zero GX, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Smash Bros Melee, Star Fox Assault, Wario World, and maybe some Sega Games like Sonic Gems Collection since I don't have the game anymore but it would be fun to play it again on Switch. But yeah hopefully we get that and hopefully in the Direct we could see Kirby Triple Deluxe, Kirby Planet Robobot, and Tomodachi Life finally coming to Switch so I hope we do get something next week from Nintendo for a Nintendo Direct.

GameCube games are absolutely going to be released like the others. Just a matter of when. I think its best Nintendo wait until January or February 2025 to announce the next system. People are already putting in holiday gift orders. It's too late to bank in this years holiday. I think they better bring in 2025, make it worth the wait. Or people Will walk away.

Its probably going to be for Miiverse, Gamecube I doubt it if that's what was the case. Then nintendo would've just announced this a year or 2 ago I think they're gonna save the GameCube for switch 2
This might be for miiverse mainly cuz Nintendo ended their partnership with Twitter or it's for Voice chatAlso Nintendo renwed the licenses for Miiverse
nintendo wanted play testers to test the app thats 2.2GB Why would they need playtesters for a gamecube online However if it was for miiverse it would make absolutely sense
