- LIVE TIME, Abbotsford International Airshow: We’re live with BOTH the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the Air Force Thunderbirds. We are talking to Capt Sarah Dallaire from the Snowbirds where she flies the #2 jet in the inner right wing position and Maj Michelle “MACE” Curran who flies the #6 jet for the Thunderbirds as the opposing solo. Steph Stricklen will pass along as many of your questions live and in real time as possible.

Women flying for the first time with both the Thunderbirds and the Snowbirds on Saturday and Sunday:
Maj. Michelle Curran of the Thunderbirds and Capt. Sarah Dallaire of the Snowbirds are set to make history this weekend at the Abbotsford International Airshow
The Abbotsford International Airshow is celebrating its 57th year, but Saturday features a first for the event and for airshows in general.
Saturday marks the first time ever that both the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and the USAF Thunderbirds have a female pilot performing in their ranks.
Capt. Sarah Dallaire of the Snowbirds and Maj. Michelle Curran both take to the skies on Saturday, and the pair are thrilled to see more females entering the cockpit.
Dallaire, a Quebec native, began pilots training back in 2001 when she joined the 776 Air Cadet Squadron. From there she joined the Canadian Armed Forces through the Continuous Education Officer Training Program as a Royal Canadian Airforce pilot in 2007. She was then posted at two Canadian forces flying schools and was also deployed in Kuwait for six months. Dallaire then applied to join the Snowbirds and was selected to join the team in 2017.
Curran, a Wisconsin native, is a 2009 graduate of the University of St. Thomas’s Air Force ROTC program. She also served as an F-16 instructor pilot in Texas and has logged more than 1,200 hours as a pilot, including more than 160 combat hours. This is her first season with the Thunderbirds.
Dallaire is just the second woman ever to perform with the Snowbirds, and said she was inspired by Maryse Carmichael - the first woman to become a Snowbird.
“I was 12 years old and all it took was the first time I heard her name on the PA and she put a flame into my heart,” she told The News on Friday afternoon.
She said never thought she’d become a Snowbird, but she kept pushing and pushing to the next step and realized her dream was in reach.
Curran’s path was similar, with a lot of hard work and pushing to keep reaching the next goal. There have been four other females that have been a member of the Thunderbirds. She said it’s great to see females become more aware and interested in the path she’s taken.
“What’s really cool now is that with social media now people will reach out to me directly and send me messages,” she said. “It’s cool to see tangible results.”
Curran and the Thunderbirds perform at 1:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, while Dallaire and the Snowbirds take to the skies both days at 3:30 p.m

Condolences to the Snowbirds family on the loss of Capt. Jenn Casey. May she RIP.
RIP / Salute to Capt. Jenn Casey
Sucks what happened, this vid has nothing to do with her tho
She killed herself by pulling up to hard with not enough speed. She stalked and fell to her death. Could have glided for a few miles and set down in a field.
@@gregbay2613 thanks
@@gregbay2613 Wow.....first off, Jenn was not flying. Second, when you have an engine issue on takeoff, you do a zoom climb, like in the video. You need to gain altitude to assess the situation and determine if you can get back to the field. The pilot got dealt a bad hand, but he did everything he could to save the jet.
Mace is opposing solo which means she's extra badass, Pushing herself and world's one of best aircraft to its limits. Much love and respect for them. Really caught up in the recent event of the snowbirds crash. May all of them stay safe and blessed.
Snowbird Pilot Captain Sarah, nice infectious smile. Go get em girl. Glad there are women in this position. 👍👍👍
Congratulations girls. My 92 year old mother would have loved to be where you are. In the 60s she learned in aroncas and tripacers. She became an instructor at all levels and one of only a couple of faa designated examiners, aerobatic instructor and AWTA (all women’s transcontinental air racers) podium placer in the 60s. She has rolled lear jets but never got to fly in fighters although some of her lasting relations are with fighter Pilots she originally taught. So go girls my mother, still going in Prescott az, is my hero
Your Mom is badass! Bless her.
I see two people and they are both super talented ....... they are in these positions in their careers because of hard work and dedication and their drive to succeed .....
The F-16 performance is quite superior than the Tutor. The tutor can't got rolling in the vertical until 15000 ft. RIP Capt Jenn Casey. Hat off for women pilots.
Because of what you're saying, that means Snow Bird's are tighter formation
That first girl,Capt. Dallaire I think,I love that oh so slight French accent. I like seeing woman getting to prove they can handle this kind of stuff. US finally in the last 5\10 years allowing woman in actual combat flying roles. Been women flying tankers for quite a while now,but finally allowed in "combat aircraft" To cool!
All this "You go girl" stuff will backfire on feminists eventually.
Three amazing women doing great things!!!
My thoughts go to the Snowbirds. Loosing Capt. Jennifer Casey, aerobatic team's public affairs officer and injuring pilot Capt. Richard MacDougall is tragic. Capt Sarah Dallaire is a model for a generation. Maj Michelle Curran is badass Jet Fighter pilot.

My daughter joined air cadets to someday take your place. Thank you for inspiring.
My daughter went through Air Cadets. Got her glider and power license. She became the WO1 and is now in Moose Jaw doing phase 2 flight training. Tell your daughter to keep with it, it is possible!
@@lennysrubber_boots1908 she was safer not getting jabbed too, got booted from cadets for not taking it.
The snowbirds came to Oregon a while back and I thought is was a great show.
The Snowbird use to be the one that fly the closest to each other, sadly they fly a honorable but old plane... I wish you luck you all. your show was suppose to be one of hope, go ahead and make us feel good as Canadian.
Love the Canadian accent of the pilot!

You ladies rock! Thank you for the inspirational work you do!
Lots of jealous men commenting. LOL
I've watched you pilots fly several times and I've always been awed, impressed and actually inspired. I'm not a pilot, but pushing the envelope out in my profession of acting is very important. It's easy to take it easy, to not take chances. I believe life is about taking chances within the parameters of life that you live within. Keep pushing the envelop out. Yes, there are risks. You know that intimately, but you've accepted them. Salute!
Such a great video I just saw it pop up,.. you did an amazing job! I’m so heart broken over that pass few days I really needed to see this

One of them lost a female pilot few weeks ago. RIP from 🇺🇸
Who ?
Wasn’t a female pilot who died. She was a reporter flying with a male pilot.
Marc G I asked who. Are you or Jason referring to the Snowbirds incident a week ago?
Marc G she was a capt of the royal Canadian Air Force who had a degree in journalism.
Laury Mo I was hoping one of them would answer, as it’s clear neither has a clue what they were talking about.
Those two are inspiring! And cute :)
Nice pilots. They look professionnals. I would ride with them any time.
I absolutely love our United States Air Force "Thunderbirds" Flight Demonstration Squadron of the 57th Wing from Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada and their awesome Lockheed Martin Block 52 F-16CM and F-16DM Fighting Falcons "Vipers", our United States Navy "Blue Angels" Flight Demonstration Squadron from Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida and their awesome Boeing F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornets "Rhinos" that replaced the awesome McDonnell Douglas/Boeing F/A-18C and F/A-18D Hornets and their United States Marine Corps Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules that replaced the Lockheed C-130T Hercules as "Fat Albert". I also love the Royal Canadian Air Force 431 Air Demonstration Squadron "Snowbirds" and their awesome Canadair CT-144A Tutor training Jets as well as the Royal Air Force Flight Demonstration Squadron and their awesome BAE Systems Hawk T1A. training Jets! Wonderful, thank you
Amazing!
There is nothing amazing about it. Men fly aircraft overseas doing all the dangerous stuff. No mention of that though.
need better sound quality for the interviewees.
These women are awesome! Next time please use a real camera with a forward facing microphone Like a go pro which can do Facebook and youtube live.

I love the name, Aviatrix! So cool
Why only in 360P ???
Canadians deserve better.

I think (hope) he means planes
@@chrisglencross3867 Yes, planes and by "Canadians" I also include "pilots"
Meh, it's a good plane, just dated. It's not for the same purpose of fighting. It's a trainer. We have F-18s and remember the Avro Arrow, a Canadian military jet shut down by the then-terrible government that could've been a very popular iconic military fighter.

Monica Bernardino she’s 5’10” it was in a interview.
on one hand they should stop talking about how special it is for females to be fighter pilots / aviators in general
because - they - dont want it to be reported as special / they do it for a living .. its absolutely normal to them and i totally respect that
well on the other hand i wont have the freedom taken away from me to point out how respectable i think it is for these ladies to succeed in this environment physically and mentally challenging for sure - they get it done !
we should consider both sides of the story and let em be what they are
- badass fighter pilots AND beautiful women , wifes , mothers etc..
Some of the comments are really rude and disgusting - talking down to not only female pilots , but veterans , highly educated highly trained military personnel and women in general
agreed its almost like people don't want equality
they walking back to the US
Nice interview with two very special pilots. Some really uninformed and horrible comments though.
Have they already started families? Otherwise they might struggle to fit in having children.
Албания,,,
Young girls please.
Oh please.
NOTHING LIKE CALLING A WOMAN CAPTAIN
I call my wife captain, but only in the kitchen.
She was not the Snowbird that died - that was the PIO that died...she wasn't a pilot, she was a reporter that became an officer - she was riding second seat as an advanced person. It was a tragedy, but they could have punched out earlier, that is why he climbed, but tried to save the aircraft.
Unfortunately, Sarah was the one who was killed in the Snowbird accident.
denault3985 clearly not....it was Captain Jenn Casey....did you even bother to look?
Eric, keep opinions like that to yourself... let the EXPERTS deal with it.
@@denault3985 You're wrong dummy,,,,, it was Captain Casey who is not a Snowbird pilot!

It is kinda discriminating when our Canadian talking to American who's in a way better jet
Indeed.
While the Tutor is underpowered big time, It's a very stable plane.
Comparing the CT114 Tutor, a training plane with an F-16, is like comparing a Cessna with a large business jet or even airliner! It's not for the same purpose. It's a trainer. We have F-18s and remember the Avro Arrow, a Canadian military jet shut down by the then-terrible government that could've been a very popular iconic military fighter.
So I assume you say the same thing about the DC-3's, B-52s, and more old planes still flying? Age doesn't mean shit, it's how they're maintained. And even the DC-3, having many accidents in its early days, is still a great plane. Also, bush planes like our own Canadian Twin Otter are still being produced, first made after WWII and still going strong.
Did she fart at 4:29 ??? Lmao.
When will the Thunderbirds change Jet crafts like the Blueangels did !?!?
Unlike the USN " BLUE ANGELS" the USAF " THUNDERBIRDS" fly frontline combat fighters. The " Blues" fly very well maintained but non fleet qualified A/C, last time I checked!
The Aircraft used by the Thunderbirds are rotated in from active Fighter Squadrons. A repaint and some weapon racks and they're ready to fight. So until the Viper is retired from service it will remain the Demonstration Bird for the time being.
No flying, lots of talking.
Thank you. You saved me 11:39 minutes of my time. 👍
That's why it's called an interview. smh ......
Unremarkable, yet the song they use is "I'm just a girl"?

In 1996, mythbuster for Women in Aviation.
FACT: The #1 statistic according to AVIATION MEDICINE, of Women not becoming pilots is a FLIGHT PHYSICAL ABSENCE. When landing after 6 months in duty of the skies, missed physicals, cause duty personnel to be replaced. Formerly because of aircraft types being military or post Civil aviation, most areas for working in flight complete semiannual physicals.
Without them they are denied flight.
So the best female pilots were born male? How do women win in this example exactly?
Where the fuvk did pull that sht from?
WTF are you even talking about ????

Well one chick pilot/co-pilot from the Snowbirds just bought the farm flying one of these Dinosaurs. Maybe it's time for them to change to a plane from this century!
you two are fucked. what California and farming got to do with this?
Remember when that sports dude died in a helicopter crash? what year was that thing made?
You better replace every dinosaur car on the road. Every airline has to shut down till they upgrade to UFO status? Oh God is it safe to walk I might fall down some stais better upgrade to an escalator with seats and a harness and padding!
You think they would fly around it the things were so unsafe? NewJerseyJay knows these airplanes so well? did you even see them with your own eye?
Danger is part of the job I mean if they wanted to be safe they would live in a bubble like you and me and watch other people live life for us on the TV
voidremoved
I agree. People fall into the stereotype that “old” is synonymous with “more dangerous” in aviation even though age has almost nothing to do with it if they’re properly maintained. These are usually the same people who don’t understand the concept of taking care of their belongings. The Tutor lasted this long because of excellent maintenance, but it’s only a matter of time until some failure happens. We’ve seen it with plenty of aerobatic teams.

First of all: you're two years and eight months late.
Second of all: cry a little more.
uhm watch the video again, and re-read your first sentence. I'll spell it out, women are doing it, when they were not allowed to for a long time because they were "girls".... ohhh sorry you were trying to be woke with you comment.
At the time this video was recorded, Mace(Maj. Curran) was only the 5th ever female fighter pilot to fly with the Thunderbirds on the 2019-2021 Team(The 1st being Col. Nicole Malachowski on the 2005-2007 Team). Very few women apply for the position. Mostly because people like you still don’t realize it’s an option for Women to even be fighter pilots. It's been an option in the USAF since the 1970's. The Thunderbirds is a 2 year special duty assignment and the competition just to get selected is very rigorous. There's nothing "woke" about this, they're all held to the same standards as any other fighter pilot in the USAF.
Let’s see you pull 8 Gs without passing out, asshat.

Really? Hmmmm....my dad was a USAF fighter pilot, volunteered for Vietnam, got shot down twice, and landed on steel planking in a rice paddy. In Thailand. His squadron had a 37% loss rate.
