Eddie's acting in this is fascinating. It's a big part of what it does for me.
I think of this song as a preventative measure. Great song. I agree with our host, can't make progress without dialog.
Another epic song from my youth. Thank you for reacting to this song with your thoughtful insights.
Definitely need to do a deep dive of Alice in Chains
Thank you for your analysis, and this channel. My younger brother took his life eleven years ago and it still feels like it just happened to me. I was left with PTSD from this. Ironically I was always the sister who talked to my brother everyday about my anxiety and depression. He was my go to rock who helped me just by talking and telling me he would always be there for me. Well later on I found out that he was the one who was also suffering. He never said anything to anyone about wanting to take his life. That's why it was so much of a shock to me. I have guilt feelings now that if only I had known, maybe just maybe I could have stopped him. Thanks for listening.
I value your feedback. Thank you for sharing about your brother and your experience. You aren’t alone. . It can still be helpful to speak with a therapist even after these 11 years have passed. (If you aren’t already).
Psychologytoday.com is a good place to find a professional therapist near you. Be encouraged and keep going! 🙏❤️
Dear world, this song was recorded after my traumatic experience. It instantly became my favorite. Now this channel has become one of my favorites. Thanks.😊
Sorry to hear that you’ve also experienced trauma associated with this topic. You’re not alone. I’m glad to hear that you’re benefiting from the channel. Keep on keeping on. 🤟
@@MusicHealsHQ All through the decades, my PTSD has been with me the whole time and some things will always give me joy, like watching birds, riding my mountain bike and going to the range to burn a bunch of holes in paper targets. I stopped killing things (hunting and fishing) a long time ago because empathy required more of my attention than hunger. It was a sport I had to give up. Thank you for explaining things so well for the world to witness.😎
You should try the album 13 Steps by A Perfect Circle (the lead singer is also the singer for the band Tool and the band Puscifer!); the whole album is about addiction and has some powerful songs. One of my fave songs is ‘Gravity’, sadly I lost my only son in 2015 to alcoholism when he was 31 so he never had that second chance, but the song Gravity speaks to me as a mom recovering from intense grief, especially the line “Lift me back up to the sun/I choose to live”. That line might be the addicted person speaking, yes, but it resonated personally for me as well as a big part of me wanted to just give up after my son died. To honor his memory and the whole of his being, not just have him remembered for his struggles with depression and alcoholism, I chose to live with my love and wonderful memories of him and keep him alive in the hearts and minds of others as long as I am still here. That song also helped me release my own guilt feelings for not being able to save my son despite getting him psychiatric help and rehab and trying any and everything I could think of to lift him back to the sun.
The healing power of music is really amazing. Thank you so much for sharing about your son. I’m glad you’ve made the choice to honor his memory this way. Shine on!
13th Step is an amazing album and Gravity is the perfect ending
This song never fails to make me tear up. Thanks for your reaction.
Amazing song, terrific analysis. Thank you, Dr. On a similar subject, I'd recommend Inside the Fire by Disturbed. The song explored suicide and extreme emotional lose. The lyrics of the song depict the words of the Devil tempting some who lost a lover to suicide to also commit suicide in order to reunite with them. Powerful song.
Mad Season - Wake Up . Is a song I highly recommend !
My husband killed himself three years ago and two weeks ago my 21 year old son tried to join him. My son is saying that his dad keeps beckoning to come over to the other side. He sees his dad in dreams every night. Please pray for him.
I’m sorry to hear about these very difficult challenges. Thank you for sharing a little about your experience. It’s important for your son to see a therapist. You can find one in your area at psychologytoday.com
I am also praying for you and yours. Keep the faith!
You are so strong.
🙏
You may find value in analyzing the difference between Nine Inch Nails "Hurt" against Johnny Cash's cover of the same. Same words, former about addiction and rejection & the latter about aged regret.
I previously recommended Manchester Orchestra - The Silence but have to throw in 2Pac - Brenda’s Got A Baby.
That’s another true story like Jeremy about a young person suffering and it’s ripple effects on the rest of society. 2 PAC, quite poetically, shows that suffering doesn’t happen in isolation. That it’s not *only* up to the community to help, in fact, it’s their DUTY to do so in the first place.
At 14 my so called mother split to be with her boyfriend. Leaving me with my dad who just buried himself in work to cope. I was alone ( he was always shut off to emotions especially with me. The first time he ever said I love you was when I was at the age of 45) I was at the time growing into my bipolar, depression and anxiety. (That I didn’t know about until I was in my forties, while he was dying from emphysema he died 2 years after..) almost took my own life with a gun barrel in my mouth fully loaded, this song resonated with me big time it was a Yang Yang with this song but I made it out of the darkness and I’m still here at 48.. thanks to music including this song among others…. 🙏
Glad you’re here. Thanks for sharing! 🤟❤️🎵🙏
Ren - Suicide. Nuff said.
It absolutely is! My brother layed down under a train 10 years ago and im still struggling to come to terms with it. The worst thing is he told me he was going to do it! I told the mental hospital they came and took him, i told them please dont let him out or inform me if he gets released 2 weeks later my oldest brother called me and told me our brother had been found under a train! He was my best friend.
So sorry to hear that. Sending love and prayers to you and yours. Stay strong! 🎵🤟
Wow man they sent you Jeremy man! Yep this song musically is so fun and then the lyrics are not so fun
But good to hear your thoughts on this track for sure.
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it!
I did this as my year 11 media presentation. I put everything into it cos that school had a terrible bullying culture. Teacher failed me cos it had a swear word in it. Didn't care about the content at all. I gave up on school after that. Still managed to have a great career & should have left school as soon as i could
When i first heard this song i was very young , so i really didint care about the lyrics, now than im a 30+ years old dude and an uncle, i listen to the lyrics and i got really sad, because this was a real kid, and like this kid many others suffers the same fate... man.. sometimes humans deserve the worst fate
Great analysis. I think you would like to hear some Breaking Benjamin, they have some deep emotional content in their songs. I'd recommend So Cold and Evil Angel.
🙏 thanks
I would also include Dance With The Devil and Until The End for Breaking Benjamin .
Hello, good health to you both physically and emotionally!
And I will unobtrusively offer these emotionally charged videos for the next foreseeable reactions:
Papa Roach - Broken home
Killswitch Engage - Always
7 Days Away - Vengeance
Five Finger Death Punch - Coming Down
Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. 🙏
The thought I have most days is “I don’t want to live, but I don’t want to die either.”
Stay strong! Help is also available. You can find a professional therapist near you at www.psychologytoday.com
The best is yet to come!
I tend to describe that feeling as "I want to stop hurting." Most people (in my experience) that are suicidal, do NOT want to die. They just want to stop hurting. To stop being hurt. To be loved and accepted.
Jeremy is one of those songs that I've always bopped along to, but with the distortion on their vocals I never really took the time to look up the full lyrics. Not only are the lyrics FAR different from what I had always thought, but they are far more impactful (though that's the norm with Pearl Jam for the most part).
Aside from the revolution of the song itself, I really enjoyed your insight into this one! Thank you for the video and I hope you continue to make more :)
I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with me. There are many people struggling with this kind of challenge. Thank you for supporting my efforts to help others. 🙏
Wings for Marie 1&2 by Tool.
Thanks
I'd love to see Universal Truth by opeth broken down
Every night is so mentally exhausting to me. I really want to die, but i just can’t leave behind and hurt my mom and my brothers. I don’t know what to do.
So glad you’re here. We can feel that way for many reasons. It’s great to hear that you have family members in your life who matter. It’s important to share how you feel with others, including family. A therapist is trained to help. You can find one near you at www.psychologytoday.com
Keep the faith!
@@MusicHealsHQ Thank you so much.
Quick question: can a parent be a bully?
Potentially, but that’s a question that must be addressed in context. There are many dynamics/layers involved that a therapist is trained to help uncover.
Psychologytoday.com is a good resource to find a nearby therapist who specializes in this area. Hope this helps. Best to you and yours!
Absolutely.
