I am brought to tears every time I watch this. Still, I watch it because it thrills me to no end that this AMAZING young man (I am 60 years old), so brilliantly and empathetically brings to light the horrors of generational trauma by putting us directly in the shoes of all those affected! I identify with Violent, however I survived and fought like hell to end the cycle with my children. Not to say there are no eternal scars, there most certainly are and will always be, BUT things can get better. I LOVE Ren for being the innovative and powerful voice that he is. He is a RARE gem and we his Renegades know it! Thank you for your compassionate, insightful reaction. ❤

First heard the Phoebe Bridger’s cover (I like it better), and listened to it quite a lot a couple summers ago when the skies had been red with wildfires for weeks. It’s quite a mood for these times. It has the same vibe as the movie Don’t Look Up - helplessness, isolation, and insistence on normalcy when things are clearly not normal and in much need of help.

I've always visualized this song like scrolling through the feed of any given social media app. Like each thing he says is a post he's absentmindedly scrolling past. Feeling numb to the horrors, AND numb to the silly/ridiculous stuff. From companies weighing in on world conflicts to national tragedies to female Colonel Sanders.

Specifically, I think this song articulates the casual existential dread that accompanies living in late-stage capitalism as it teeters on the edge of full-blown oligarchy/authoritarianism. The underlying feeling of everything slipping past the point of no return, going insane, and feeling mostly powerless to stop (or even slow) it.

There are so many layers to this one, it would be really hard to analyse it on the first watch. Just like how Bo completely ignores Socko and just immediately changes the subject without any real acknowledgement, other than to make it about himself, and reminds Socko that he's dependent on him and to just fall in line. Then even after he does, and apologises, he discards him anyway. Layers on layers

I love this channel already.. just subscribed! A few thoughts: 1. To me, this may not just be about a relationship with another human. It's primarily about any kind of power that holds sway over our own agency as a human being, which obviously hinders the ability to propagate love, compassion, insight, and wisdom. Although often this DOES take the form of a human, or other humans. 2. To me, it's about embracing temporary chaos in order to end tyranny, on a personal level. And about the articulation of conflict either on an interpersonal or intrapersonal level. Or both. "I don't want to, but I must persuade you another way.." (and I'm scared) None of this is to be taken lightly. Order vs. Chaos is something I'm just beginning to understand. On a larger scale, this shit can easily turn dangerous. I'm over my head in this arena. I'm all for the protection of innocents and not producing any collateral damage in this process. 3. This all reminds me of how violent storms form and how they play out. As in how air masses interact, how supercells and mesocyclones/rotations form, and what feeds them.. air inflow vs. outflow. Outflow dominant storms produce a lot of rain and cold wind and hail, but die out quickly. Inflow dominant storms feel creepier, and tend to produce deadly tornadoes. 4. You just identified the precise moments that make me want to either run to the basement (if I'm smart) or stare at the deadly storm. 5. Maybe that's why I have always loved prog rock, since I was a kid. I'm a Rush fan as well. Thank you!

I think you nailed it. Diving to the bottom of the ocean, where monsters lurk, with a powerful beam of light. That's pretty scary and intense stuff. NOBODY wants to go there, and I don't blame them. But maybe that's what it takes, to break the cycle and expose this kind of evil, which has been hidden, likely, since humans existed. It's sick, it's gross. There's no excuse for it. Shine a light on it so that it withers and dies. Even if it happens to be a father, brother, or uncle (or mother, aunt, or sister) who is the monster or monster's accomplice. Talk about taboo. Edit: This song also makes me feel intensely protective of innocence and innocent beings. I would go John Wick in a second, if I witnessed any abuse of an innocent, whether a child or animal. (I'm a GenX woman) btw.. subscribed, after only 10 mins of experience with this channel.

This song is about the next stage of human evolution. The pygmy tribe in africa have DNA with 44 chromosomes and 2 based pairs, we have 44-2 the next stage is 46-2. You are correct about the psychological aspect (obviously) although it is through the person in the song going though the physical metamorphosis.

Just want to offer some insight into a specific lyric. I feel its true meaning (at least meaning to me) might pass over some people's heads. "Obeying all the traffic laws in Grand Theft Auto 5" A few years ago, when my depression was probably at its worst, I distinctly remember staying up late playing GTA nearly every night because I couldn't get myself to fall asleep. It got to a point where even the most exciting GTA gameplay - shooting, flying, blowing things up - just didn't give me even the smallest amount of fun anymore. So then I resorted to just driving around at a safe speed, avoiding pedestrians, stopping at all the red lights. Anything to keep my mind busy enough to avoid being alone with my own thoughts. I had never heard of anyone else doing this until Bo sang about it, and when I heard it I immediately understood its meaning. It's incredible how deeply relatable everything in the special is, but that line specifically blew my mind when I heard it. Bo's biggest talent is tapping into the cultural emotional zeitgeist of the moment, and channeling it into art that speaks truth to everyone.
