'How many times can they change time signatures?" Welcome to Tool. "How much emotional maturity does it take to write that?" Welcome to Maynard. Lateralus is really where Maynard started to settle into himself, I believe. It's where he learned to let go and to embrace what was around him. He'd taken all the lessons from the work he'd done previously and started to put them to use. Though you can still see edges and sore spots in later albums (through all bands I'm talking), after Lateralus, things come down a notch or two lol. He's a poet through and through. And no, no PhD. He actually went to art school after the army.
“Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion” is, at once, both the most obvious and most profound descriptor of human angst towards another ever spoken.
I sent this song to my ex-wife (wife at the time) to listen to, thinking it described our situation at the time. She replied that I was weird. I knew in that moment that there would be no reckoning between us. We tried individual therapy with couples therapy at the culmination. I put forth the effort but she did not. This was the end of our beautiful love story. Another Tool song that I made my mantra is Parabol/Parabola. You guys should give it a listen.
Schism and stinkfist are kind of tied together for me. A relationship with a borderline. Nothing is ever good enough, it's all your fault, and it will never get better.
Been Listening to Tool Since the late 80’s! Then I Just Rocked to the music Not listening to the Lyrics Until About 4-5 Yrs Ago!! Now I’m A lot older The Lyrics Make Sense To Life!! Some People Listen to the Message Or the story that’s being told? Why Knows? Some people get it! Some Don’t! Was with my 1st wife from 91-07! Too k me 15 yrs To find the One Who listens to me & Understands Why I Listen to TOOL!!!
As a therapist, you should really do most all of the songs off their album "Lateralus". All the songs and lyrics on that album have the same theme.... relationships, and growth, both emotionally and spiritually. "The Grudge", "The Patient", "Parabol/Parabola", "Ticks and Leeches", "Lateralus". You just did "Schism", and the rest of the lyrics are just as inciteful. I think you'd really appreciate their messages. new sub here.
Half a lifetime ago, I listened to this album and loved it for its music. Now I am studying psychology and realising how much really good psychotherapy principles are wrapped up in the lyrics.
Thats first pause with the introspective lyric breakdown you gave was spot on. Its refreshing to see someone listen to the song willingly exposing themselves to the bigger picture. If your looking for an immense emotional roller-coaster of a song along the same subject matter check out the live version of "Push-it" by tool. Its heartbreaking.
Me and my wife when we were on drugs together. Both of us are clean and now are more close together than ever before. We knew we loved each other and we didn’t understand why we would always fight
A lot of Tool’s videos are similar in nature, but have an intricate meaning. They are most definitely in a depth that you are apparently very aware of. New subscriber here. I’ve watched many of your reactions and they’re great.
My 22 year old son plays this song on guitar! On point! Narcissistic father!! I wish I could upload a video to you! He’s an old soul! So talented but so hurt!!
this band is awesome, their lyrics very deep and meaningful, the animation is created by their guitar player , he used to be a special effects guy in Hollywood before the band got together. he does their videos . i would recommend seeing them live, it is all about the music , Maynard stays hidden almost throughout the whole show, they let the music create the show .
Please do the live Sober video, there's a lot to unpack in that one both lyically and physically since you can watch Maynard. Everyone reacts to it, yes, but it's because it's awesome.
I love what you are doing here! It’s so beautiful to experience the impact of Maynards lyrics on someone who truly understands them! And at the same time you seem to fully appreciate the music as well! ❤
4:14, how many times can they change time signatures 🤔 🛠️T⚙️⚙️L🛠️ , “Hold my Beer” 😉👊 Great reaction sir, please consider the tracks Intension and Right in Two off their 10,000Days album.
I could have sworn I watched you react to this one already but I don't see a video of it in your playlist. I'm probably mistaking it for 46 & 2. Tool is right up your alley, brother. Lateralus and Parabola are from the same album as Schism. I highly recommend you check them out as well when you can get to them. Cheers!
I really enjoy the channel content! You have gained a new subscriber! I love your NF reactions. I would love to see you react to musicians like Sik world. Ivan B. Witt lowery. And of course more NF! I thank you for making this channel as I believe you have such an important Job on this platform and in your private practice. As a current graduate school student for social work I look to channels like this for inspiration and motivation to keep perusing this amazing field of work. So thank you!
Would love to see you react to RØRY - “Alternative” would be a great one. “Family Tree” or “The Apology I’ll Never Receive” would also be good choices. She really epitomizes the healing power of music.
Somewhat OT, here, but if you genuinely want to get more out of Tool, just listen, listen, listen. When you're to the point where you know every single upcoming note in every song on any given album, it all becomes the most soothing music you've ever heard. At that point, just listening is wonderful meditation. But don't worry--you'll still get more out of it, even years later. Edit: My point is, getting blown away and amazed the first time is normal. But keep at it. There's plenty more.
Same name but not related I’m pretty sure. The band Jinjer would be a good choice.Try Teacher Teacher the official video to start with unless you want to try and tackle their Pisces the live session.Good luck Jim
Finally got the copyright dispute resolved and reposted the video. Thanks everyone.

Thems fightin words! (For some. I absolutely agree. However their first 3 or 4 albums are my favorite. But you nailed the rest for sure. Thank you!)
“Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion” is, at once, both the most obvious and most profound descriptor of human angst towards another ever spoken.
I like the fact that the characters here are not skeletons but don't have skin... it indicates to me the very open and raw feelings
I like that. Thanks
It is refreshing to watch someone understand what is being conveyed. Please continue on this journey. You will not be let down.

You’re the office Dr for the Tool Army. Welcome Doc
Maynard is a genius. You could do PHD level dissertation on his lyrics
Its so great to witness someone get it. Welcome aboard brother 😎

If I ever have the misfortune of having to go to couple's therapy and Schism is playing during the session, I might try to marry the therapist.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Great reaction sir, please consider the tracks Intension and Right in Two off their 10,000Days album.
You should check out songs from Puscifer-the humbling river, momma sed and perfect circles gravity… softer than tool but killer all the same!
THE OTHER AWESOME PART OF THIS BAND AND THEIR WRITING AND RECORDING IS THE DIFFERENT TIME SIGNATURES , IT IS JUST SO ORIGINAL
I could have sworn I watched you react to this one already but I don't see a video of it in your playlist. I'm probably mistaking it for 46 & 2. Tool is right up your alley, brother. I said the same thing. He posted it a few months ago but must have removed it
Copyright dispute finally resolved and uploaded again . 🙏🎵
See you at the weekend, Doc!
You have to do Tool -pushit , you'll love it just as much as this one tbh
The main question here is not if Maynard has a PhD, but whether the PhD got a Maynard already.
I aprecciate what you do btw.

You should do the grudge if you haven’t. There’s a lot to unpack there between astrology and more grounded ideas.
I just used the lessons taught in this song
Please react to Tool's Sober Live Pro Shot
🌀 spiral out 🌀😊
The pieces that fit are supposed lovers that Maynard know they fit

Yeah you already did this, why might this be? :)
Yeah, gotta be reopload
Reposted now that copyright dispute is resolved. 👍
I could use you as a therapist.... Where you located?
I appreciate the kind words, but I’m not accepting new clients. I recommend www.psychologytoday.com to find a therapist near you.
Please listen to BLACKPINK - Kill this love
I’ll check it out. Thanks
become pneuma!
You look a bit like Daniel Craig sometimes.
I do like James Bond! 🤣
