Sometimes the categories of the business or its authority can affect which ones show, so if you don't get these, you may find you need to look at the business type as the reason Google isn't offering it.
WHY VERIFY?
You need it verified so you can edit your business information across Google so it brings in a stack load of new business / great reviews / new clients
But Google has made verification quite tricky - postcards get lost, for one reason or another its hard to verify it
SKIP VERIFICATION?
If you skip verification, there’s very little point in actually claiming your Google My Business listing in the first place. You won’t be able to use your profile in any meaningful manner.

My experience has been that my brand-new company did only get postcard option, but when helping other well-established company which had already email and phone number on google maps probably many years and in use, those verification option then were available for them.
Thanks Digi, that sounds like a good summary and would make sense as its then about the established authority out on the web being used to authenticate the business. Google sees the postcard as the least isk, but as a business owner its the slowest option
Google support is absolute garbage. Wasn't able to give them the code. Wasn't able to give them the verification video because it loading infintely and wasnt able to contact them because they dont care.

I live in Bridlington, I'm thinking of setting the same business profile in sheffield 71 miles away, would not be a problem verifying profile as cold use a friends house as we stay there when we have work. The question is could I use same business details as I have at home. Like website, phone number etc
Tricky question. Google would have to be convinced it was a different entity, which you may struggle with. For the sake of an additional phone number and web site, it has to be a better investment than running a risk of suspension

Did they give a reason? Certainly Art and craft has categoriries in Google, eg search for "michael hemming artist in bournemouth uk"

Great video !!! . in my case-problem it is as simple as it is frustrating.😡 I cant verify because the phone number used to verified does not exist any more, no matter what I do it does not show any other option, not even the postcard option. It simply shows " call " or " text " (which it wont work because there is not number ) but when I click options ..nothing happens . There is not email or postcard option to request !! this is affecting us because we moved and changed the phone number.
the only way this will ever get resolved is directly with Google

Hi im trying to help my dad set up his taxi service in Matlock but he dose commutes to Matlock when he works and the bussiness video for verification says it needs to involve the postal address, i tried making a video in matlock as the verification video but i think it got rejected. what do i do?

Google suspended my listing for suspicious activity. I believe it
may have been do to forwarding one phone number to another, for testing purposes on website traffic.
I digress. Since then, because of slow business, I have lost my regular phone service and use a prepay monthly phone service. My question is: will google business allow a prepaid phone number to be used for a gmb listing, even though it doesn't have my name on the contract?

Google state:
Provide a phone number that connects to your individual business location, or provide a website that represents your individual business location.
Use a local phone number instead of a central call centre helpline number whenever possible.
Do not provide phone numbers or URLs that redirect or 'refer' users to landing pages or phone numbers other than those of the actual business, including pages created on social media sites.
The phone number must be under the direct control of the business.
Additional phone numbers can be used on Google Business Profile websites and other local surfaces.
Premium-rate telephone numbers are not allowed. These phone numbers charge high rates to the caller.

that's certainly a solution that can work for some types of business. it's really down to where your potential clients look for your type of business
Yes that's very true. All marketing avenues work differently for each type of business, so its good to elimiate early on what works and what doesn't
Any idea what to do if Google downright refuses to verify my business? I own the business since 2012, gave them all the details, proof of ownership, etc and they just send the same email back stating they cannot proceed to verify my business 😞

I followed your instructions and skipped putting in my address after putting a company background and many pictures and all information got lost (at least I cannot find it) . Google did not let me use my company email address and wanted to verify an old company and completely ignored all the new company information. This is a crazy system.I think you need to put your address in to get the postcard and then maybe try and find another way to verify it

I changed my business address. I was then submitted to verification for new address. I was already verified at older home office address.. I received the post card in 7 days. I entered the code and they said they are investigating. Then they asked mentioned verify. Once again I requested a verification number, received that at new address entered and after 2 weeks they still showing my old home office addres
Oh boy, thats quite a process!
Issue is you can follow these instructions and in my case there was zero options to choose and all you can do is wait for their bloody postcard!

If its a service you may be able to, but that maybe only limited to certain category types. But generally speaking ,just follow the form and fill it in as specified to avoid any issues. Can I ask why cant you do it from the business address?

Yes you can but make sure the business has a physical office with proper signage outside.
What if googles only option is to verify with a business video and you don't have a storefront because you go to the customer.
Then they will want to see proof of the services eg business cards and headed paper etc

The only option I get is to record a video at the location, but the internet is really bad out there. How else can I verify if its not giving me any other options?
Knowing Google the only option is to explain that ad ask directly for a different method. If you get the right person you will be ok, but sadly its dependent on how helpful the person is at Google, let us know how it goes

it will be down to Google to offer it. not all categories get it
I'm starting an online business only and running it from home. Google told me since I have no address with an actual store that i deal face to face with customers I couldn't verify my business. I don't understand how these other website only businesses verify themselves. It also only has the option for video verification, the system google is using is def broken and needs to be fixed for small business's.
A home business can usually show as a service ok
But if it's only online, then that may be trickier, have you spoken directly with Google about it and what they require in the video verification?

just be honest, and explain your business setup, no reason you can't be listed as a service if you don't have a shop front

GMB asks for a address, then asks for a business email (which I dont have, just a google email) - what can be done here? having an email specific for my domain is an extra cost. I jsut set up a profile for someone a month ago and it tried to ask for an email but i waited a bit and went back in to verfiy and it accepted jstu the postcard method fine. Now this time it wont seem to do that. whats the deal?
What type of business is this one and the other one you mention?

@@ZanetDesign I went in to update it from Art Studio (which does note that is !requires a physical address!, which I gave before, it doesn't say anything about an email until after I enter the address - the "other option" besides email is to "verify later" lol)
and set it as Artist instead. Maybe this will help? it currently still asks for an email after the change but maybe it will update ?
I set these up for every artist I work with and for some reason every - single - time Google throws me some new problem ! lol
maybe it's worth noting that these artists are all basing their businesses as online sales - not a physical storefront - so the address is not shared, just their website and sometimes phone

How do you submit a business video if the business is home-based?
not sure what you mean, you can take video on a phone of the office area or products and upload them if they are saved in my format

@@haydukeii you can still submit a video that wouldm build confidence for a potential customer or client. Think in terms of how seeing the person who gives counseling would give confidence as the vidoe would show there personality as they talk to the camera, or react out a one to one in the ara counseling takes place, if a business showed this and anothr didnt, who do you think a person weighing up both businesses would choose, the unknown or th one with transparency and clarity? Does that make sense?

have you checked your category, sometimes it's limited because of the main category

I got a call fron a "David Hoffman" claiming to be from Google saying all I had to do is pay $99 for a lifetime buniness peofile on Google I told him I did not have it.. I thouught it was a scam next thing I know I get an email from Google 2 hours later saying my site was live on Google search/maps.. Does this mean that I have been verified?? Also you mentioned having a buniness on Google withoout invovling Google maps how do I do this??

text is a nice option to have, some methods are only offered to certain types of categories and countries it appears
Please, what do I do? The phone number I used in creating the GMB profile did not receive any call or text code from Google even though it claimed to have been sent/called. Unfortunately, it stopped giving me the phone number as an option, and only provided as an email, the blogspot link I stated while creating the GMB as my website, it added the word "info@" in front of the blog link I stated as my website and I unwisely clicked that google send me the verification code to that so-called email, assuming that probably one can receive email through that. But sadly, I didn't receive any. I later clicked for another option but was told there is no other option. I am not quite sure, but i may have requested that they send me a postcard, but I live in Africa. One wonders when such can reach me. My question is, having explored these options, can i still ask them to have a video conferencing call with me. Also i have succeeded in opening a free google website, is it possible that they can use that website to send me a verification code or verify me on the basis of that? Also, how can I contact google to schedule for a video conferencing call? I have written a lot above and I hope it makes sense? I would be happy if you can help me with the right answer. Thanks.

They don't arrive here in South Africa too but there's ways around it, I've done it a couple of times.

No, they just have poor communication. Google do a better job at advertising unverified accounts with the incorrect information due to their poor service and verification methods. You’d expect more from “Google”. Useless.

We have requested 4 post cards 21 to 28 days apart and after 5 months, we haven't received a single one...

@@ZanetDesign It's a construction business. It sucks because I'm coincidentally moving as well, and if postcards are the only way then my business verification is going to be delayed by a month or so (move time + postcard ship time) :(
