So you build the blocks similar to how a bargello quilt is made - interesting. I was trying to see how it’s a trip around the world as I’m used to one color in the middle and each row around the center is one fabric so it emanates out. The white makes it look similar to an Irish chain. Would love to see the whole quilt hanging.
I loved making the Scrappy Trip Around the World and I’d like to make another one (I rarely make the same quilt over). I made the one where the “diamonds” were less defined and I love it. I also did 8 strips - I followed Woodberry Way’s (Instagram) technique. A little advice if you use jelly rolls- be sure to measure your strips (not all jelly rolls are exactly 2 1/2”( different company’s) especially the pinked edge ones) and adjust your 1/4” accordingly. I wish there was a full written pattern somewhere - my notes are copies from Bonnie Hunter and several other makers but I guess that’s just the nature of this quilt - lots of different variations. Thanks for your size chart- I will add it to my file 😊. Look forward to watching your progress.
Thank you for sharing this. I made one very similar to this. On mine we sewed each strip set into a tube. Then you could roll down each row and remove the stitches on a particular line and when you open it it will make the row automatically. It was pretty cool. ❤❤❤❤
Oh wow, Sherri, your quilts are beautiful! Thanks for bringing this oldie but goodie to the forefront. Definitely going to add it to my list. I like your idea of getting a block ready to sew at the end of the day.
I have a trip around the world my great grandmother and grandmother made in the 1930's. It is pastels and not scrappy. I think I might be able to do this scrappy version. I have been thinking about remaking their quilts in my fabrics and seeing how it compares. Thanks for the motivation and instructions.
Thanks so much for the inspiration! Just started mine...have the strips cut and ready to begin. Your link to Bonnie Hunter and your tip sheet are extremely helpful! TYSM
I think it was originally based on Elinor Burns Quilt in a day trip around the world. It was the first and only quilt I did for years. I made it as a baby quilt for each of my babies now in their thirties :) I still have the pattern.
Fantastic, always have loved this pattern. Your first block is awesome. Thanks so much, now I have to decide whether to make the log cabin pattern or trip around the world, both have been on my list. 👍❤️🙂
Sheri this was a fantastic video! I've been wanting to make one for years. This looks like a very do -able pattern. Thank you so very much for your generous tips!!
Thank you! I have a ton of fabrics I want to make quilts for donations for Trafficked children. I just found an organization to work with. Can’t wait to get started. I’ve been looking for scrappy patterns to do this. 💗
Thanks Sherri for all the info! Someday I would love to make this quilt. When I saw your Christmas quilt that I love, I had looked up all the info and found Bonnie.
Also, make sure there is contrast between the last strip and the first strip. This is my scrap project for the year but using 5 strips for a 10 inch block.
Thanks Sherri for sharing this. Your tips and tricks and tutorials are always so detailed and informative. I really appreciate that. I will be making this soon! Can;t wait to see yours!!!
Thank you for the links . I hope to make some blocks soon as like you I don't want another log cabin type scrappy quilt having completed 2 for my charity this year.
I just got done cutting out 336 strips. Is there a certain position to put the light color in so it comes out like yours? I love the Christmas quilt, the snowmen are so cute.
Eleanor Burns made this qui ll t many years ago, has a book on it.
Your quilts are beautiful.

It's ok to fix your hair. Love your tips and fabrics. Looking forward to Laguna Sunrise and your next book.
The k you for all the information! Do you always put the white solid in the same position in each stripset?
I have 2 of BH's scrappy books... I wonder if it's in there too?
Thank you for all the information! one question,,,Is the light strip always in the same place when you sew your strip sets?
Did you get an answer
Great tips. Do you always place the white as the center diagonal fabric?
Thanks, Sherry! Question, on your pattern, when it says 432 strips, is that the 16 " strips?
I am unable to see how to download your sheet for doing different sizes and how many strips needed please help
