I’m 54 . My petellars slip daily . At night if I turn over , sliding out of the car, if my foot bumps something lightly . At 13 my right patellar slipped while playing softball and I fell and broke my left leg n foot. The broken leg was cast but nothing done or even looked at with the right knee. I quickly instinctively straightened the knee n it popped into place so they didn’t think anything was wrong but bruising when I complained. They have both slipped thousands of times over 41 years . After putting so much weight on the left knee to protect the right one , it began slipping as well. This has taken all the best years of my life. No skating, rope jumping , running, swimming and having to decline outings. Afraid to mop, shower, walk outside in the winter or even sleep . I’ve been sleeping upright on my back almost in a sitting position many years terrified of a slip. I can be sitting watching television and move my leg and I have to scream n pop it back. I’m exhausted and my back is getting bad. No brace fits properly because my thigh to leg ratio is unique. The doctor recommends rehab and no procedure. But the slightest effort causes a slip on one or both sides. Should I see a different doctor or could this work? Knee caps are out of position one half the width of the patellar with arthritic and other issues. Meniscus tears recurring. I just cry. A limited life for decades.

I see this was posted two years ago, but I am so glad I found it. This is exactly what I want to hear my surgeon say. I’m not necessarily young (34, 32 at time of initial injury) but I am part of the “traumatic” group, although non contact. Lateral release Jan 2018 (failed) MPFL reconstruction Oct 2018 with continued instability, lacking full ROM, and lateral riding patella and now likely a medial meniscus root tear to further complicate. I love the way you guys address the problematic thought of “one size fits all” treatment. Very well done. Thank you.

Mom2Boys I’m glad you found this useful. The approach to patella dislocations hasn’t changed much since our chat.
These procedures require careful planning and execution for success. We wish you success going forward!!

I had mine happened I was 14 and now it has become a thing that happens constantly. It doesnt even hurt as much as when it happened the first time. I instantly pop it back when it happens and it happens on both legs. I went to the doctor and he transfered me to Physio which never helped. Thank you for the video. I have struggling with this issue for a very long time. I can not do simply basic things such jogging.
