I call it bog oak, cause that's where I get mine. Co Mayo. Dried naturally for 20+years. From a peatbog.to the sander. It does split but it's natural. Dried in a kiln isn't black,it's More grey. I wish you could get some properly blackened. Yes its exciting wood.yes I adore it also. You do beautiful work. Fenland oak. Black oak Bogoak. Same stuff, same love of the wood.🏴😊👍🏴
What if I tell you, then ppl who dig black oak here in Serbia only earn 100-150€ per log, just because we do not have laborathory that can measure the age, so ppl from Germany and Swiss buy logs from us for such low price. Sry about my English xD
Tom, Neolithic Oak sounds like a wonderful name. Sounds a bit like that ceramic tile sound (at 8:25) we heard with that set of Madagascar Rosewood you were tapping the other day. I recently brought home a Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 Aged, that has some really nice Mahogany on it. It taps as nicely as you could expect, for a guitar that is already put together with hide glues. I'm sure that it sounded nice being tapped before they put it together. Very nice video, I'm enjoying your tonewood series.
Hi Tommy, just incredible to think of handling a material with such a history to it , I actually find it hard to get my head round it , keep the videos coming please it's my open university course, On the strength of your video I found an amazing documentary from Richard Durrant highlighting Hamish Low and the methods used to dry it and going on to show ( The Jubilee Table) Hamish made ,just awsome. It seems he is the man to source from , I have looked around and wonder how to be sure what one is buying with provenance, there is some Antique Oak out there that is fumed or treated as I understand it but what would be the point as this is poles apart, I am totally engrossed with your videos and Tommys Tonewoods is great and fun to watch , it's such an education, cheers Graham
Love the B4 & B5 sets - tonally, which do you prefer Tommy? Also - I have seen and tap-toned the denser black sets up in Avalon Guitars, however, there are some new sets there - very similar in look to the ones you have... these have more mid-browns in them = darker in the centre with lighter colouring on the outer sides/edges. What causes the colouration - from the denser black to the mid browns? Any thoughts Tom? Hope to get to tap-tone these sets next week:) K.
I don't know what I'm hearing. Rosewood responds super fast in the sound box and booms to me, whilst mahogany seems more compressed and mellow. I don't know if your black oak would rumble or be midrange mellow? I suspect the later.
Can anyone tell me the supplier he's talking about? I would like to lookin ordering this tonewood. I can't seem to find the website. Just wiki information on adamson & low
DAAMMMNN!! That might just be the most beautiful wood I've ever seen!

The bog of allen is about 10k years old so most of the oak is pure black
This tonewood series is like a drug. Seen them all and can’t wait for the next one to arrive as soon as I’ve seen the latest addition.

Global neoliberal capitalism is a mother fucker. Take care friend.
Ill give you 160 😉
Amazing Wood
Amazing. This is making me think of a dream guitar I’ve had in my head a while. Big oak and sinker redwood top. Tasty
T-shirts and stickers ordered :) #excited!!! I know they are as good as the other ones that are being worn all the time!!!!

You should name the guitar after someone/something 5300 years old, such as Ötzi the Iceman, a mummy discovered in the Austrian/Italian Alps in 1991.
I’m thinking Enoch is a good choice

In the pipe smoking world its called morta from which some pipes are made
So if you had an oak (not black oak) back and sides guitar all ready for finish and you wipe it with ammonia would it be a black color?

Christmas in May:)
It's over 5000 years old not just 3300 years old. That's some seasoned wood!
Discard previous statements. Just looked at the title. Oops
🙏
How can I get a set for myself? Price?
Adamson & Lowe, Etsy. £300ish.
@@TomSandsGuitars shipping to the US could be cost preventative maybe?
@@lambsquarterhorses well that would depend on your budget but I’ve routinely bought material from the US without shipping costs being too wild.
Bog actually means God in Bulgarian
That oak is 5000 years old. It said 3000 bc wick means it is 5000 years old
Correct
Shoulda left it in the ground
3300 bc + 2021ac = 5321yars hshs
Haha!! You caught my mistake! 🤣🙏
