      Damn now it’s wanna play the sims, Also imagine on build mode you had to run plumbing and electrical..ughh wish real life construction was like the sims. I work in construction and it’s a pain when the customer “isn’t feeling that outlet” I want to move the sink a little more to the right/left” and everything is already taped and floated, and painted 😔😔😔 I’m getting sad just thinking about this.

    • @steveniemyer9288
      @steveniemyer9288 6 лет назад +25

      meikoblock If your doing a remodel it’s probably more expensive. But in reality most bathrooms are built with all the plumbing in one wall. So the wall behind the toilet and sink would have all the plumbing and would be easy to build. If there was room for a tub/shower on the other side of the toilet, it would be a very standard bathroom layout in almost every home. The issue with this setup is the code in regards to space. The center of the toilet flange is most places has to be 12” off the wall, then in most places you need a minimum of 21” of clear space in front of the toilet. A standard toilet sits out from the wall a minimum of 24”, so that only leaves 12” of space between the front of the toilet and the wall in this scenario, which is not up to code. If you are building by universally accepted NKBA (National Kitchen Bath Association) standards, you need even more room. This is why architects, engineers, and contractors design and build homes and “Designers” decorate.

    • @Engineer9736
      @Engineer9736 6 лет назад +1

      GTB_Greedy So, what is the definition of “like that”? With the right side near a wall? Or the space in front of the toilet? What is the building code prohibiting exactly?

    • @numbereight886
      @numbereight886 6 лет назад +5

      Richard van Pukkem -I'd say that a toilet facing a wall in 3ft of space is too small, facing the other way it was facing 5ft of space.

  • @rawaserwan5463
    @rawaserwan5463 6 лет назад +24

    You can’t see the toilet from the door because of the way the door opened, you see the sink instead. I’m pretty sure it’s easier to leave the door shut then to rearrange plumping. If your tall your knees are gonna be right up against the wall

      In a rental lol yes that would be a problem but if not, I don't see the prob other than is it worth it as we don't all have their budget. DIY level wise prob want to avoid sewage line but if you're just turning I'd be ok but his toilet repositioning was a bit more than that. If it's just supply, waste water then it's ok. But totally agree it might not be with bothering if it's a tiny place & cost/benefit isn't there then best just add some shelves in good places & maybe change out the sink. Not everyone has the money to be buying funky sink toilets ...it's a tiny bathroom for a reason!

      It seems like he just flipped the toilet it is still connected to the original pipe just turned to face a different wall. I wouldn't move the sink bc that requires plumbing the towel just needs to be placed right next to the sink and the toilet paper within reach. And if you really needed that sliding door I'm sure it would fit where the original is or get a split door

    • @gracefulvintage
      @gracefulvintage 6 лет назад +5

      Let's move the toilet, sink, door and all the plumbing included.....ah....NO! This is really bad advice. The amount of money to completely redo this small powder room will not pay off if and when homeowner decides to sell. Much easier to relocate the toilet paper and towel holders. Not very practical advice.

      Great minds think alike. I have done so many small bathrooms in the UK with an Ideal size of 7-8 feet x 3 Ft… Toilet to one side, shower to the opposite side and sink in the middle, opposite a pocket / sliding door. This vid is impractical and BS. Even without a shower, what’s the problem with a small sink opposite the toilet in a 5X3 area? When your sat down in such a small space all you see is your head in the mirror.

    Some building codes in different states also say the door swings into the room, not away from it. Swinging out could be bad incase there is fallen debris or anything during a fire that may block the door

    The sink/toilet, while super space-saving, seems so awkward to me. You have to lean over the toilet seat to use it. Not a comfortable position, and (considering a house full of boys, if mom doesn't come clean it every single time it's used) it's kind of a gross thought. I'm passing on that one for comfort and cleanliness reasons.

    Yeah, if I had that I'd just pull everything out except the toilet drain. I'd add a air purifier instead of a vent then I'd buy the flushing litter box that needs a sewer drain opening to flush only liquid into. Then I'd put a cute catdoor, maybe a cat face cutout, into the big door. Maybe some shelves somewhere above for storing pet things.
    There's no way I'm fitting into that tiny bathroom so I might as well make it into a self contained litter box area. I might leave a little sink for handwashing and for added water too.
    Oh I'd also make a cute Cat's Only sign.

    With the original layout and considering the original door position. The toilet bowl should be on the right on the width. And the sink should be facing in front of the door so the towel rail can be on the extreme Left. Thus the left side now has more space and feels more spacious, and when using the toilet, u are facing that left side area so good idea for a feature wall or art piece.

Also, if you're prone to getting sick, you may want to rethink your towel bar. I have a wall mount paper towel dispenser. Sharing or reusing your own cloth towel is unsanitary because when damp towels linger in the bathroom germs spread. As far as the environment goes, I use paper towels made from recycled paper then it goes into the compost.

    All looks good on paper. Until you actually put the stuff in place. As for my tiny full bathroom (tub/shower), toilet, sink .
    Fits comfortable in a 5' x 6.5'. that leaves basically a 4x4 floor space area. Sink is 18"wide by 16" deep. Standard 30" toilet.....18" from wall to sink to place it in (tank width).
    Wall next to toilet is my outdoor storage/wet room that is 12"deep by 4' long. Door is a barn style door on the outside of the bathroom. Made from a aluminum screen door (saves weight).
    Not bad for a tiny floating house.

    The labor to frame in a pocket door on a non load bearing wall is about $600-$700, this is just for the install, you'll still need a dry waller and painter. Figure $3k if you're lucky just to get rid of a swinging door.

  • @Greendragon434

    he said if the door is left open you're looking at the toilet...wrong...with the direction the door swings, you'd be looking at the *sink* if the door was left ajar (unless it was pushed back completely open, like door-against-the-wall

    Big mistake, genius.
    Why would you move the toilet from where it was??
    Move the vanity to the wall and you have enough space for everything and you will not be facing the mirror, with ample space on the left for toilet paper. Place towel holder higher up.
    Why leave the toilet where it was?
    Because a minimum space of 21 inches must be planned in front of the toilet, but it's even better if you leave 30 inches.
    There is no way you will have that with the toilet moved.
    Try getting up and pulling pants from a toilet that is located only 20 inches from the wall and you will be banging your head on drywall!

    I'm not so sure about the toilet that refills itself from a sink. Any excess water is just drained off from a tank already filled. So unless the person knows they need to wash their hands soon after flushing, but only after the tank has emptied and begins refilling, but also before it fully refils and shuts off, it is not going to work fully as intended. Might work if the tank has a very slow refil cycle.

    In the original setup there seem to be two towel bars (big + small). Who needs big towels in a powder room? Aren't hand towels enough? Removing the big bar would free up wall space to hang the toilet roll in a more accessible place. Also there are bars that you can hang multiple towels from. Extra toilet paper could be stored in a small mirrored cabinet over the sink. And why is the original sink so enormous? Do building codes require a full sized sink in a powder room? And how is that weird toilet/sink combo thing European? That is something I'd expect in a mobile home, not a house. The only really useful idea I see in this video is installing a sliding door.

      Jordan Honeycutt actually it overfills the tank, so next flush only uses part of the stored water and therefore uses less fresh water to refill. Don't you think the designers would have considered your point?

    • @oggyreidmore
      @oggyreidmore 5 лет назад +1

      When you flush a standard toilet the water drains from the tank, which drops a float valve and turns on water until you refill the tank. With this type of toilet, instead of the valve filling the tank directly, it goes through the upper sink faucet first so that you can wash your hands with the water before it drains down into the tank to be used for flushing next time. It just means that when you flush, be ready to start washing your hands because when the tank fills, the water stops. Edit: You're basically flushing the toilet with waste water from washing your hands last time you used the toilet. Saves space and water.

      redblkgirl99 No. If you're stuck in a situation where tolerating this prison lavatory is required, then chances are you're just stuck with it outright. If you can afford to remodel a bathroom, you would have a much much larger bathroom. Keep in mind no trustable and skilled contractor accepts less than $25k for the remodel. A minimum of 75% of the cost is labor.

    He's giving some really bad advice. The most widely used building code in the U.S. is the IRC. It requires 21" clear in front of a toilet. Some manufacturer out there probably makes a wall hung toilet with the tank inside the wall and a 15" bowl. If you can get one, I'm sure it'll cost at least a thousand bucks. If you can't get one, you can forget getting a building permit to do what he is suggesting. But think about it on your own. He says he doesn't want to look at the vanity and a mirror while he's on the toilet. That's fine, but who wants to have a wall right in front of them? I can tell you with certainty that he has not actually used a toilet arranged the way he is advising because nobody would tell anyone to do it that way if they had. You will agree with me if you do this, place a dining chair sideways in a 36 inch wide hall. Now walk between the wall and the front of the chair and try to sit down. Did you hit your head against the wall? Did you feel a twinge in your knees as you sat down? Then try getting up, and don't hit your head! Now try wiping your rear end. If you install a toilet his way, you will end up sitting on it diagonally. You will be much happier with the toilet facing the way it was in the beginning. You will understand why they are located as they are, and why building codes demand that they be that way. If you have a small powder room that's set up in the traditional manner and you feel cramped, you can replace the standard sized vanity with one that takes up less space. And if you don't like looking in a mirror while you are on the toilet, you can get rid of the mirror altogether. But why do that when there are dozens of ways to hide a mirror. You can put a decorative curtain, or window blind in front of the mirror. You can mount the mirror on a hinge so it can be turned to face a side wall, and it can be flipped back again for use as a mirror. And the things I'm telling you are cheaper than his bad advice.
