I added 5 of these to my setup (space limitation) and it's a brilliant design :) And well explained 👍

Would this work with the Prusa MMU3? I suppose the specific question is would the NEMA 17 motor be able to push back the spool as it rewinds?

What i dint quite understand is how does the spool rewind? Why doesn't thr filament just coil around the spool like wheb you dont use a buffer?

it's all because of "one way bearing". filament is under compression between regular ball bearing and one way bearing. when filament is pulled bearing spins as normal and everything is lose and spins independently. However, when filament is pushed by ERCF, one way bearing locks and turns shaft which is connected to rollers where filament spool is resting on. So ERCF is performing rewinding function by filament movement.

wait that's awesome. have you had any problems with resistance of this setup on retract? For the feeder on the printer itself, or the ERCF.
and doesn't the bearing slip with more slippery filaments? and is there not a problem with the spool diameter decreasing with filament being spent?

I have been tinkering with it on and off and it has been working somewhat "okay" mainly due to my ERCF being V1.1
lately been having lot of issues. I am planning on converting V1.1 to V2.0 with better encoder and feeder gears.
I will do some video on it as I convert this over and will do some in depth video on filamentalist and ERCF V2.0 as time allows.
Regarding slipping, I have tried PLA & PETG and so far none. Slippage been only happening at ERCF end. (reason for upgrading to V2.0)

@@Outofbox11 got it, thanks. Will be waiting for your video, as I'm currently trying to make a setup without those large buffers

Thank you for that. Are you still using this mod? Have you had issues with it?

@@3dprinting_noob yes I still use them. So far so good.
