That camera - for video - is nearly as good as mine, and I got a much more expensive SLR! Some features that are better, like the continuous burst is better by a lot, and has a lot more features, but those are kinda gimmicks that I doubt you or I would use. Definitely a nice camera! (One thing I am very jealous about is because its a single lens, you get a huge focal length that looks nice enough!)
Thank you for showing me this. This is a good DSLR type camera that films 1080p (even 60p!) and has a mic input. The cheapest one I found was a Canon T2i, and it's $800. I now am strongly considering getting this.
Seems the Panasonic FZ150 and the Canon SX40HS are neck and neck as the two best of their class. I was debating between the two for weeks, read a ton of reviews, watched lots of videos about the two and from the two, and settled on the Canon which I'm very happy with! Even the photos look almost as good as those from my Canon XTi DSLR- maybe 'as' good!
@mattardis It means that it records at 220 frames per second instead of the normal 30 frames per second. This allows it to play back the video really slow really smoothly. This eliminates a slow fps and frame rate if you slow down a normal video. you'll notice that if you slow down a normal video, it will be jittery and not smooth, but if you slow down a highspeed video, it will look very smooth as if you haven't slowed it down at all, even though it is slowed down significantley.
Nice footage covering the features of the camera...I ordered one online..and looking forward to receive the same ...this has given me another excitement...making me more excited to receive after viewing your video.... Best Regards Balaji-Australia
Hey Jon, thank you for your report! Today I'm considering to buy the FZ200. I know, th camera does MP4 in h262 format. When filming in this format, do you need to convert the files to .mov to work with the material in iMovie? Thanks for your answer!
Nice camera but I think I like the image quality from your cannon more because the colour seems to bright but then you might be able to change the settings.
hey i like this camera but i want something that has all of those features but with interchangeable lenses. Do you think the canon 7d would provide that? and does the canon 7d able to mount an external mic? or which canon has that flip around screen? many questions ... i know i really need your advice. the flip cam review is the video that cause me to start watching you. you seem trust worthy.
Jon. Is it possible to use difrent styles of fisheye lenses and or wide angle lenses on this camera? I recently purchased it, I do lots of fingerskateboarding filming more in low light situations, so a fisheye is a must for me if I want to cach the entire clip. Also if fish eyes can be used is it going to make the camera lense extremely heavy and long? I Beleive I heard you say in your video that this cam doesn't have a detachable lense??Any help would be appreciated. Great video.
In the little pop up at 0:59 you said "Movie Night, MICROWAVE SHOW, 3 Steps to Success and W.A.T.J. ARE recoreded on..." Does this mean that you are going back on doing more Microwave Show? Loved watching it!
Jon, you always have the best cameras. Had the best SD camera ever for the time that you were doing the early Is it a good idea to Microwave this, true dedication. What's the camera you have now? (Too lazy to go through your channel, sorry man.)
John, what would you recommend, the SX50 or the FZ200? I ask this because I saw your Camera Buying Guide video and looked in the description but noticed it was last updated in Nov. 2011. It included the previous versions of both of these cameras
Nice camera Jon surprised you went away with canon. I just got a used canon fs300 my self for only $79 at a pawn shop takes great videos but only takes 2 mp photos which is disappointing Have you had any experience with it? I just bough a casio ex1080 and it broke and that same pawn shop has last I checked, a canon sx110 should I get that? Do you Recomend that camera it's $79
Good video on Panasonic FZ150. Only 12 years behind the curve here. Does this save the videos to the SD card? I'm having trouble trying to transfer videos off the internal memory of an FZ35 I've had since 2009 or so. Any tip appreciated if you could take a minute.
@@Jon Oh my man there certainly is an Internal Memory on this FZ35. It flashes up a message telling me it's full. If you could only see it . . Today, bought a new 128GB SDXC card for my old 2010 Lumix super zoom FZ35. Yes, same camera, and still a contender. The card is a MIcro Center brand. I was excited to try it. But, whaat, no way . . . it keeps telling "Insert SD Card Again" or similar. I thought I would have to format the new card in the camera. Cannot get to a formatting screen. Can't get past the initial error message. Maybe I got a card that is incompatible with this old camera. I bought the wrong card? Yeah, I know you think this guy is an idiot, You may be right.
@Jon What about the Canon not shooting in RAw, is this a big huge deal?? Also, the zoom, it's so much zoom, do you really see that much zoom as good quality?
Jon, I know the Flip isn't exactly your favorite and I also know you did a video on it a while ago. But realistically, why do you need a better camera for vlogging? That expensive hunky thing looks easy to drop, and it also looks quite tiring for an active vlogger to be carrying around all day. Why DON'T you use the Flip? It'd be so much easier.
Nice video! I would like to know your opinion on the Fujifilm FinePix S2950. It's very low cost and I'm pretty sure it's also a bridge camera. Of course it's not going to be as good as a digital SLR or a more expensive bridge. I'm not much of a photographer so I don't want to spend a large amount of cash on something I won't use too much or make money from it.
@Jon Hey john, I am just getting into photography and am looking for a camera with better quality and more options that a point an shoot but something that is not a big an cumbersome as a DSLR. Is this a good option for me? And is there manual focus on this camera?
i really wish i knew about this camera before i just bought my knew one, i just bought the Fuji-film Fine-pix S2800, 14mp bridge camera:1080p photos, 720p video, 18x optical zoom, dual image stabilization, Hyper Image stabilization, Face detection with auto red eye removal, Smile and shoot detection and blink detection, Scene recognition auto and tracking auto focus. it's great camera but Jon yours seems much better, a lot more features i would have liked. maybe i should start saving up again xD
what features does this camera have over the canon sx40 and knowing what you know now, would you still get this? ALSO what are your thoughts on the sx50. im trying to decide if i should get the sx50 or fx150. i just want some good picture quality :P
Hi Jon, I just had quick question regarding with your vlogging camera the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200. So I know that it is niche between a camcorder and a dslr so I was wondering, can the FZ200 autofocus as much as a regular camcorder without the need to zoom in? Because I know regular dslrs have a very limited focus range, and need to buy different types of lenses for different focus shots. But can the FZ200 have a nice macro shot on its own like a camcorder without the need of a Macro filter over the lense? I think your answer will help me determine whether I should get the camera or not. Thanks in advance.
sounds like a great camera! my Cannon SX30IS can do a lot of that, but is limited to 720p :/ but other than that, i love my camera, and I'm gonna start recording more since i JUST got RUclips partnership! (i send you a tweet a little while ago, lol) good camera review tho jon!
hello jon! may i ask what class of sd card is best for this camera and isnt this 1080p 60fps? im planning to buy this camera for christmas using it for both pics and videos. thanks!
Do you think Sony is a good video cam? I'm planning to replace my very old Sony MiniDV handy cam and replace it with another newer Sony camera. Any suggestions?
Damn, I gotta get me one of these. I do wish there was more of a market for film cameras, though. Film is so much more fun and it's superior to digital.
I know you said you wouldn't, but after you use it for a while, COULD you review it? There are literally 2 reviews of this on RUclips and I actually may get this. It's just so new...
Camera or Camcorder? I don't know which one to get. I want to take nice pictures, but i want a good video (with continual autofocus) If camcorder, whats a nice one for under 600 dollars, with a mic jack/headphone jack PS. 24fps native would be pretty nice
@Logan5312 ...while it's recording whilst streaming directly to a laptop? They should do a "reunion" episode once a year (might as well), and that would be awesome.
@Jon yup..i do see the use for that in pro vlogging on RUclips.. (i'm just the person who likes photography.) Nevertheless, keep up the great videos! :D
@KoraRAR115 Yes I've been using canon for many years but it's a good camera to pick up, my brother bought it. It's just that it's too small to fit my hands sometimes, but if you havent picked up any big DSLR you would not notice it. I've been using a Canon 7D for 1 year :)
Camera or Camcorder? I don't know which one to get. I want to take nice pictures, but i want a good video (with continual autofocus) If camcorder, whats a nice one for under 600 dollars, with a mic jack/headphone jack
i would rather take the bridgecameras for filming than for photoshooting. Because the sensor on these guys is very small, lots of light gets lost in the lens and not only by the small aperture.... in the end you'll have to increase the ISO to 640 or 800 and the pictures gets very noisy. And i don't even recommend these for young people who could actually have some potential in photography. Sooner or later the camera is pushed against its boundaries and the person likely buys a DSLR.
wow the pictures this camera takes are amazing, helps that you have beautiful fall colours in the background! can't wait to see it in action
holy shit the colors really pop with this camera, congrats on the new gem
Win, lose, or draw, I'm looking forward to the next full video with your new camera
Video quality in 1080p looks amazing!

Whoa, raw shooting? Never knew they would have something like that on a bridge camera. Now I'm intrigued.
Congratulations on your new camera!
Nice camera but I think I like the image quality from your cannon more because the colour seems to bright but then you might be able to change the settings.
Man that looks like a pretty sweet upgrade!
Nice review and Camera,, Thanks, What i'd like to find out, Is there a model that also has nite vision ?
When I saw the title, I imagined a parody of the "My New Haircut" video, lol

Jon bought it so it's GOTTA be good... Am i right? this looks like a very nice camera Jon!
Good review. Nice to see occasionally something else than just running through the same specs, as the others.

@joejumps4fun Jon is referring the the Powershot SX20/30/40 series though, which is what he does use to vlog.
Not my idea of a vlogging camera, it a bit big. But its still a great camera, good choice Jon.

hey jon thanks for the vid. i just wanted to know if these pictures are straight from the memory card? or have they been tweaked later?
Nice camera Jon surprised you went away with canon. Frame save sounds like a nice feature, I may be in the market for a D-SLR camera soon. You should review a few other cameras! :)
@Jon yeah, I'm aware of this, I just found it funny that it said the microwave "show" on the annotation, lol.

Thought i wanted a 60D but you've sold me on this

cool. good job dude. Tomorow i am getting the nikon d5100. I C-A-N-T wait!

hey Jon, do you know any other cameras with the flip out screen that costs less money than the one you bought?
Jon, What Camera Would you reccommend for Reviewing Products, And Vloging
Nice features but you said no 1080 at 60 fps. Other than that. Sounds like a sweet camera!
wait if you are showing us your new camera on the screen what are you recording with?
Does the photo capability cap a picture in the lower resolution of the movie setting if you're taking one while shooting a movie?
hello jon! may i ask what class of sd card is best for this camera and isnt this 1080p 60fps? im planning to buy this camera for christmas using it for both pics and videos. thanks!
@Beestingprod It's not about the Resolution all the time. It's about the sensor size. The bigger the sensor, the better the photos.
awesome camera i think i'll have to go buy one now
lol, the annotation at 0:56 says he still shoots the microwave show. is Jon hinting at something?...probably not...
damn that's a really nice camera! I'm liking the price too!
Do you think Sony is a good video cam? I'm planning to replace my very old Sony MiniDV handy cam and replace it with another newer Sony camera. Any suggestions?
what camera do you recommend for me besides the fz200 that is under 500 dollars i just mainly want really nice clear pictures
Damn, I gotta get me one of these. I do wish there was more of a market for film cameras, though. Film is so much more fun and it's superior to digital.
@Jon well yeah, but as specials, I wouldn't necessarily call it a "show" as it's not on a consistent schedule, lol.
then what were you filming with after the bloood cannon killed your camera?
This camera costs almost twice as much in the UK. Fantastic.
Hey Jon, look behind you!
*grabs the camera and runs"
the question is: in terms of picture quality, should i buy the Panasonic DMC-FZ150 or the Canon SX40 HS??? Only picture quality matters.
I don't know why you're considering the FZ150 at all... it's several models out of date.
yes! go with Panasonic! I love my camera!
You should start season 3 of Jon's world.... Just a thought..
I was once considering that camera but I decided to get a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX9V.
I know you said you wouldn't, but after you use it for a while, COULD you review it? There are literally 2 reviews of this on RUclips and I actually may get this. It's just so new...
@Jon wats your cats name it just looks so enthusiastic and shocked toward the end
(This assuming you used the cannon for this) You can tell she's seen better days through the lack of video/audio sync.
Camera or Camcorder? I don't know which one to get. I want to take nice pictures, but i want a good video (with continual autofocus) If camcorder, whats a nice one for under 600 dollars, with a mic jack/headphone jack PS. 24fps native would be pretty nice
Congrats! :D
@SpeckyNation What about when your phone shoots 720p video?
@Jon Yeah, that is indeed a bit of a drawback, but at least it's compact enough to take it with me most of the time.
I want it :( @Jon , I wrote an article about this in a german Magazine and trust me, it´s one of the best I´ve worked with.
@Jon Ahh thats about what i thought... It would have been cool to film this Jon's World with the new one :D
watching this in 1080p cause finally i can! im as giddy as a school girl.
@Jon actually the camera has a smaller sensor than a dslr and doesn't have a mirror
How does the size of the FZ150 compare to the Canon?
Are you using it for RRC season 4?
NO, THE CANON POWERSHOT SX40 HS AND NIKON COOLPIX P510 40X OPTICAL ZOOM articulating screen
@Jon Oh wow I wouldnt have thought that a camera of that quality would still use AA batterys! :O
Would you recommend any Sony cams?
@Logan5312 ...while it's recording whilst streaming directly to a laptop?
They should do a "reunion" episode once a year (might as well), and that would be awesome.
@Jon yup..i do see the use for that in pro vlogging on RUclips.. (i'm just the person who likes photography.)

How is the low-light performance?
Is there anything worth occupying in new hampshire?
What do you think of the Nikon 1?
@KoraRAR115
Yes I've been using canon for many years but it's a good camera to pick up, my brother bought it. It's just that it's too small to fit my hands sometimes, but if you havent picked up any big DSLR you would not notice it. I've been using a Canon 7D for 1 year :)
Is there a Budget ($100-$200) version of this camera?
Congrats on the new camera Jon =)
How much have you learned so far about the Camera?
unless it was the digital zoom making it worse but the photos look great.
one word FINALLY
Pretty sweet camera, but my Canon 300HS does the job proper. I filmed my latest vid in 1080p24 and it does look good enough.
Camera or Camcorder? I don't know which one to get. I want to take nice pictures, but i want a good video (with continual autofocus) If camcorder, whats a nice one for under 600 dollars, with a mic jack/headphone jack

very nice camera i think i wiil be byuing this camera

The test video looks a bit orange. But it might just be that the white balance is a little off.
Sorry, I meant Jon, not John
you have such a awesome cat
