Nice work!! I came here as I was looking for filling an old chase which had two 15mm copper pipes in it. The depth is 30-35mm and 60mm wide. Is Bonding Coat still OK in layers? The blocks are breeze blocks.
Great video - informative, no nonsense and knowledgeable. Would you use bonding where an existing wall is next to a plywood surface, which will also need to be replaced eventually painted and be part of the finished surface? Thank you
I’d try to strip off the ply and replace it with layers of plasterboard but if that’s not possible I would probably stick loads of pva on the ply and edge it with mesh at the junction with the surrounding surface. You want to avoid different suctions.
@build-better-things do you need to PVA/water wash the chasing of where there is a cable thats been wired onto breezeblocks/dense block before using the bonding plaster? Thank you!
Yes, bonding goes on well if it’s new plasterboard. But if it’s just a flat surface, wouldn’t you just go straight to skimming without bonding it ? Maybe I’m misunderstanding
You can use hardwall over larger areas of walls such as unporous brick, but for all the examples I have shown in the video, being chases and junctions…, I would use bonding rather than hardwall, with pva where not plasterboard. In the examples I show in the video, where exactly would you prefer to use hardwall?

Yes, just build up in 10mm layers. The quick curing of bonding means you don’t have to wait so long

I think you've answered by question at 3:06. You PVA wash the inside of the chases before applying the bonding plaster?

@@build-better-things it's new plaster board. I left 9mm gap to existing board so I need rough coat 9mm then finest skim 2mm multi finest

yes I would use hardwall hardly ever use bonding, bonding can cause all kinds of problems@@build-better-things
