Very hard graft mate. Had a job recently where I had to hardwall a bathroom, was an absolute nightmare. Apparently the tiles were too heavy for plasterboard, yet they still built a stud wall and boarded and tiled around the shower area, so was completely contradictory
Always liked sand cement can chuck a bit of waterproofer in never a problem, not sure how long hard wall will last.Done loads of hard wall , browning hsb .Nice job mate
Thanks mate! Yeah I agree, hardwall is by far the worst backing product (except browning, but I haven’t seen any of that in years) also S&C you can go round checking skirting lines etc at the end of the day, with this stuff it’s final within a few hours! Nasty 😅 Thanks for watching Ash
@@AshThePlasterer Im a South African, all the internal plaster is sand and cement down there. Do some plasterers use sand and cement on internal walls in the UK too? Nice video btw, your technique is great to watch - it looks very efficient!
Yeah I know this 😂 I just thought I’d use my mate to get as much of the floating done as possible while he was there. I though “it won’t be too bad” oops 😬😅
If! - You can still get 'Carlite Finish' - THAT! Is the way to go with dry Hardwall - Multi-finish is always more trouble than it's worth unless you can cover JUST before it starts to turn, as it takes the finish 'With It' - No bubbles and lovely smooth finish 🤠
I haven’t seen carlite in years… do they even make it still? 😬 I had an afterthought on this one, using the extra time sachets… maybe I’ll try next time, if there is a next time 😂
@@AshThePlastererwatch out with the extra time. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but it's a git when it comes t paint finish time with extra time in the mix. Great work nice attention to detail man
@@AshThePlasterer we just took over a job they fuct hardwall up had to pva it and go again with more to get them flat then multi finish it turned out sweet in the end. Do u prefer Sbr to pva ?
I wanted hardwall on our project, some of it thermal block. I COULD NOT get anyone who would do hardwall. I wanted it to help with airthightness and almost more important for acoustics for my HiFi. We had to go Dot and Dab :-(
Great work considering the set backs mate! Can i ask some advice? We've got a crack that's appeared on what seems like a newish plastered wall. Looks like it's where some plasterboard meets brick, and i suspect it's not been taped. Can it be rectified without too much upheavel IE gouging out and filling with some filler that stretches, or does it need taking back taping properly and sorting? Looking forward to more videos when you can.
Cheers mate… mmm it’s hard to say without seeing it. If it’s a plastered wall meeting up with a brick wall it may just be a shrinkage rack. In which case you could try what you suggested above. Sorry can’t be much more help Ash
lol 😂 I just wanted a load of the floating out of the way while I had help. At the time I don’t think I even knew what day of the week it was 😂😂 thanks for watching Ash
What did you do round the windows reveals . Did you do the plasterboard, let's say 20mill out from the reveals so there is a lip and float into them . Or did you keep them flush to the block work and make your own corner up
I definitely is Joe! Luckily I had one days help with it, but leaving it over the weekend to skim was not my finest decision 😂 think next time I’ll book in help for the whole job. Near on killed me with the height too Thanks for watching mate Ash

They probably did something similar in here mate 😅 it really is a graft isn’t it, and I’m not getting any younger!! Thanks for watching mate

Get a nice lot of cracks with sand/ cement and no insulation value
We’ll done mate I know it’s graft but in my opinion think the finish is better on hard wall. Nice to see a ‘real plastering’ rather than skimmers👍
Thanks mate, yeah I do like the finish too, give me sand and cement over hardwall any day though 😅 cheers for watching mate

@@AshThePlastereryep defo I’m an old git plasterer and used to sand/cement float and set. Keep up the good work👍
Nice job , you earnt every penny on that job tough graft
@@AshThePlastererno insulation value in sand/cement and will crack a lot more than light weight plaster
Looks great mate👍
Thanks mate 🙌🏻
Proper way
Good man float and skim
Sorts the men out from the boys .
Better to skim it same day 👍
So much suction when left
Yeah agreed mate, I know this too but just wanted to float as much as possible while I had some help… kinda backfired 😅 thanks for the watch pal
Ash
Nic job fella done loads of it in past. Is graft but better finish than boards. Less snagging.
It’s just nasty isn’t it… give me some easy boards any day 😅
Always skim hardwall the same day nothing but a ball ache otherwise ! Great job though fella 👍🏻

We always used to float and set same day or its hard work those white blocks usedto be a nightmare hosed them down fisrt 👍
Yeah i know what you mean mate, not nice are they! I’ll stick to dot and dab in future 😅

Too many options on materials nowdays used to be float and set bonding and multifinish in the same day.
Errrr float and set with bonding!? No thanks lol hardwall is bad enough
Welcome back
Thanks Justin 😃
Looks good bud, hardwall is good but it bloody stinks 😂
Thanks mate! Yeah bloody stinks don’t it!! 🤢🥚

People don’t do it because they can’t do it it’s not hard it’s a very simple plastering skill
Sponge float brings it back when the suctions too high
I’d usually agree but I literally had now time for sponging in this one 😂🤦🏻♂️
Great work considering the set backs mate!

Definitely a two man job this. Most plasterers aviod these jobs. Dot n dab everytime. You did well for your age😉🤣.
Definitely mate! That’s why I got a young whipper snapper in for a few days 😂 I’ll take that thought 😅 cheers mate
Yeah turn nice solid walls into hollow sounding plasterboard shit👍👍
Just pull your finger out straitnig a wall & finish it in same day is a breze , one good compliment you keep your feet clean
Finger was definitely out on this one 😅 oh for sure, I can’t stand mess lol, I’m probably in the wrong trade 😂 thanks for watching

Hello mate! Yes, I stick them 15mm out from the blocks then float to them! 👍🏼
@AshThePlasterer OK cool lovely job. Customers must be proud

No worries keep Banging out the Content
I know u said customer didn’t want it but should always put sand/cement on external walls any penetrating damp and it sucks it up like a sponge.
Customers always right 😅 I’ve never heard of sand and cement on external walls to stop damp before? 🤔
Light weight plasters hold the moisture
Always skim the same day on hard wall 😀
If theres no cavity it should be sand and cement but nobody really lives by that @@AshThePlasterer
Mad they wanna float the walls that way so much money thag was surely
Customers always right 😅
Use thistle bond it prior to hardwall and you will have no problems at al
I tried desperately to get some of that but left it too late, I everyone was out of stock. I’ve not used it before but heard it’s the best
It costs a fortune
I still sand and cement my walls on any jobs i do .
I’d prefer sand and cement any day. Have so much more time to play around with it… also skimming next day! Can’t beat it 🙌🏻
😍😍
👍🏼
Why is there plasterboard around reveals
Stupid cavity closers, not suitable to float on. Always stick reveals these days, much better job too 👍🏼
Off steps on bone dry hardball 🤮 one to forget m8 😂
Yeah it weren’t fun mate 😆
i would just pva on the hardwall.
Yeah it kinda worked with the pva. I just shouldn’t have left it so long! My own sill fault! 😅
Thanks for watching mate
Ash
No idea why they didn’t dot and dab?
Same! 😅 the architect specified hardwall… the architect must know best 🙄😂
I try and duck any job that requires solid plastering these days. Shit product
It’s not fun is it. If this was normal blocks and 2.4m high It wouldn’t have been as painful, but think I’ll be ducking the next one too 😂
PULL YOUR FINGER OUT. YOUR MAKING A HARD JOB FOR YOURSELF. TOO SLOW. 😢😢
lol 😂
How do you know? Did you time him?
