    I am a77 year old retired plasterer ln my day it was a standard thing to float and skim thermalite block on site We used to float the walls with browning in the morning, then turn round and skim it with Carlite finish in the afternoon Bear in mind we were on price work and there were no power tools Browning mixed in a bath with a shovel and a drag and the skimming mixed by hand with a plunger In winter it was dark inside the houses by about 2 30 so we had to move a bit to make our money

    • @AshThePlasterer
      @AshThePlasterer  Месяц назад

      Sounds nasty mate! The guys I started with didn’t have power tools either so even I had to do the browning in a bath tub, shovel then rake it! And the plunger was my worst nightmare 😅 thank god for electricity and batteries 👌🏼

    Very hard graft mate. Had a job recently where I had to hardwall a bathroom, was an absolute nightmare. Apparently the tiles were too heavy for plasterboard, yet they still built a stud wall and boarded and tiled around the shower area, so was completely contradictory

      Thanks mate! Yeah I agree, hardwall is by far the worst backing product (except browning, but I haven’t seen any of that in years) also S&C you can go round checking skirting lines etc at the end of the day, with this stuff it’s final within a few hours! Nasty 😅

    Your right mate , always turn back and skim whatever hard wall / tough coat you’ve skimmed the same day . Thermalte is a nightmare due to the very high porosity even when skimming the same day as backing coat can still potentially crack BG GYPPRIMEis made for high suction backgrounds as Pva and SBR has a low effect on thermalite i find

    Great work considering the set backs mate!
    Can i ask some advice? We've got a crack that's appeared on what seems like a newish plastered wall. Looks like it's where some plasterboard meets brick, and i suspect it's not been taped. Can it be rectified without too much upheavel IE gouging out and filling with some filler that stretches, or does it need taking back taping properly and sorting? Looking forward to more videos when you can.

    • @AshThePlasterer

      Cheers mate… mmm it’s hard to say without seeing it. If it’s a plastered wall meeting up with a brick wall it may just be a shrinkage rack. In which case you could try what you suggested above. Sorry can’t be much more help

    If! - You can still get 'Carlite Finish' - THAT! Is the way to go with dry Hardwall - Multi-finish is always more trouble than it's worth unless you can cover JUST before it starts to turn, as it takes the finish 'With It' - No bubbles and lovely smooth finish 🤠

    I removed the plastic trim from around my window and it pulled off old plaster so if I use hardwall what is the maximum thickness that it can be applied in 1 or 2 coats. On the sides it needs to be about 10mm thick and on the top it needs to be about 25mm thick.
