very informative video. will implement this on my system. 1 question, can it do playback videos (via atem software) and recording at the same time?

You have to choose to record or play back from the HyperDecks. The change happens like this: When you recording and you hit stop you hit the play button once then your back in play back mode... Hit play again and your playing what video you have cued. Same with Record, in changes modes by pushing record or play. You can make Macros to switvh between modes and that speeds things up but that will not change the fac t that the HYperDecks all do one of those things at a time. With the HyperDeck Shuttle you have a mode in the video codec settings menue for Reading and Playing Teleprompter Files .RTF files and that's a third mode for that device.

This convertor will pass 4k 30 but does not upscale from 1080p. If we are talking about ten 6g convertor I used for this demo: if you send 1080p from you Blackmagic camera that is what the convertor will pass through. It does not have any scaling features inside:

Thanks for this overview. I'm setting up by room now. I am able to see my camera feed on the little screen on HyperDeck (via HDMI in). But when I connect HDMI out to my external monitor, I am getting a green screen. My Google search suggested perhaps something to do with RGB/YUV. Do you have any idea what is going on on the HyperDeck?

@keithbennett5179 Will the mini converter allow me to upscale the 1080 output from the Pocket 6K and upscale to 4K? Right now I have the ATEM 1/ME Constellation 4K with 2 Micro studio Cameras 4K and the Pocket 6K connected but it outputs to 1080 even though I have it set to 2160 in the atem preferences and hyperdeck Studio 4K Pro. Thank you

Is there a way to change the HDMI output resolution from 1080p 29.97? Hate to have to use a decimator between the Hyperdeck and a monitor, just to see the record/program feed. Please help, as I'm having trouble finding out how to do this!

    • @keithbennett5179

      Perhaps this will help:
      8 HDMI
Connect the HDMI output to HDMI televisions and monitors.
HyperDeck will auto detect SDR and HDR video standards when the signal is flagged with the correct metadata. You can also override the HDR flag using the settings menu. For more information, refer to the ‘settings’ section earlier in this manual.
      9 SDI
HyperDeck Studio HD Mini models feature a single 3G SDI for signals up to 1080p60.
HyperDeck Studio HD Plus and HyperDeck Studio HD Pro models features 6G-SDI allowing for signals from SD up to 2160p30. HyperDeck Studio 4K Pro features 12G-SDI inputs and outputs allowing for resolutions up to 2160p60.
HyperDecks with two SDI outputs can be used to play back ProRes 4444 files for simultaneous fill and key when connected to ATEM switchers.

One of the issues I have with the Atem Mini Extreme ISO is that the quality you choose for streaming also determines the quality of recording via USB-C. If you choose Streaming low, the quality of the recording will also be poor. Also, I have experienced issues that the recording to USB-C stopped because the buffer of the live stream was filling up... for whatever silly reason. This is why I am considering buying the Hyperdeck Studio Plus - so I can record a clean feed out of the ATEM without being limited by the settings you choose while live streaming AND to make sure you at least have a clean recording without being dependent on the USB-C out working.

This is true. I also know people doing that for a backup (HyperDeck recording). Yet, recording limits playing because you have to choose either or. I use myn two decks for video and graphics. Yet, recording is a great use case for the Studio HD $495 US that allows HDMI only and has no Key channel for premultiplied graphics. I have not found anything in the ATEM Manual telling the HDMI Out Resolution yet. I am looking into Clean out setting on the EXTREME and EXTREME ISO today. Thanks for the conversation! it's making me dig..... Love it!

@@keithbennett5179 I'm looking for a redundant backup recorder(s) for a 4 camera set up. Simply for an "oh sh$#" my SC card crashed, etc. Also, it would be great to get a 10 bit n4.2.2. backup. I shoot with XC10's and C100's. Should I buy the Blackmagic ISO switcher, hyper deck, or simply a monitor recorder? I'm willing to invest upwards of $500.00 per camera.

The advantage of having an ATEM Switcher is live switching and I use it even when I'm making videos. So if that is something you would use and want to get the other features out of the HyperDecks yes. 4.2.2 would not happen inside the ISO recording of an ATEM as it tops out at 1080p 60 but you can get the newer HyperDeck HD Plus and get 30p 4.2.2 at 4k and even higher if you go up the HyperDeck list. The incredibly powerful 4K Pro model records H.264, H.265, ProRes or DNx in SD, HD and Ultra HD in standards up to 2160p60! A monitor is great if you just need the files when your done and none of the other features the HyperDeck HD plus and up offer like the fill and key channel for animated graphics with transparency. I hope this helps!

HyperDeck Studio Plus and Pro models even allow you to load a 3D LUT into the monitoring output to add looks or to convert film to video gamma.

    I have a quick question.
I heard that hyperdeck studio hd plus has internal time code generator but I wonder if the timecode is embedded in SDI Output or SDI loop back.
    Is the timecode embedded?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @keithbennett5179
      @keithbennett5179  2 года назад

It has a built in time code generator. You have options to have it sink to a source or to it as a source as well as Time code in and out to sync a number of decks. If you go to the web page for Blackmagic Desigh under the support page and the center column scroll down and you can download the user manual updated for the nee decks and learn all about the nee time code features: www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/disk-recorders

What type of brand of sd cards / storage size of cards do you use with your HyperDeck Studio HD Plus?

Scandisk SD 170 MB a second have worked for me. I also have a bunch of Samsung SSD now that I can use and getting another one. They are way more expensive. They are 550MB a second use for clients and can edit directly from them. Then newest version is 1,000 a second. That’s next I’m my list. I have had a couple issues with the SSD when it’s more then 75% full not sure if that is the reason or not! BMD has a list of recommended in the Manual.
